Well the doppler is absolutely useless. Can't hear anything at all....I give up!

Will book another midwife appt next week instead.

Congrats on all the scans and good luck to those coming up.

Bimbabo · 29/01/2019 20:15

@Fabuluce very pleased for you. Team elective!!

Kimbishop86 · 29/01/2019 22:06

Heebyjeeny99 do you have the gel? That’s so frustrating!

Kimbishop86 · 29/01/2019 22:07

Obviously I meant heebyjeeby99!

excitedmama · 30/01/2019 07:48

Hellooo just checking in 🙋🏼‍♀️
I hope everyone's okay. I'm feeling really sad and fed up these days, not sure whether to bother anyone about it or if it's just hormones...
Have a great week everyone ♥️

Heebyjeeby99 · 30/01/2019 07:57

@Kimbishop86 got the gel..did it all properly but couldn't hear anything but radio noise. Picked up some kind of beat but think it was the placenta or my heartbeat. Anyway gave up in the end frustrated and packed it away in a drawer. Haven't even told OH I've bought it. Just willing some movements to start or bump to grow so I can finally believe this is real. Never thought I'd feel a fraud at 5 months pregnant!

PeachPotato · 30/01/2019 09:36

@excitedmama definitely worth telling your gp or midwife! Hope you feel better.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 30/01/2019 11:33

@excitedmama

Give your mw a call.

I was in the same “is this pregnancy hormones or something more serious” and she came round to mine for a chat within two hours.

Yesterday I had my first talking therapy with a perinatal mental health specialist and unlike with pregnancy #1 where I had pretty severe post natal anxiety, this time it has reared it’s head pre natally.

They keep giving me gold stars and pats on the head for “catching it early”. I feel relieved I have too and I feel supported and looked after in a way I’ve never had in my previous two pregnancies.

Give that midwife a ring love, they’re not just there for the physical nowadays, they want expectant mums to be mentally shipshape too xx

toomanyflatwhites · 30/01/2019 11:46

Great advice from @PaulHollywoodsSexGut for you @excitedmama - definitely worth flagging it.

I just need a mini moan...I know it's nothing in the grand scheme of things but I am SO FED UP to have yet another cold...I never usually get them and yet this pregnancy I had one that lasted 3 weeks plus, it went away for a week then the second one hit, have had about 2-3 weeks without one and now I'm all full of snot again. Plus I have the mega hip pain and although I want to eat eat eat I keep getting major acid reflux (or whatever it is) making me feel full up and sick. Oh and my skin is breaking out! I am so not a glowing pregnant woman right now - but honestly, who ever is??

excitedmama · 30/01/2019 11:52

Thank you @PaulHollywoodsSexGut ♥️

Kescilly · 30/01/2019 11:53

@fee1234 thank you! Unfortunately I don't think they are local to me so I might need to try John Lewis like Reastie had suggested. I was thinking about a Roman blind but that might be more trouble than it's worth.

Congrats @socktastic! It's okay to feel a little disappointment, I am sure you'll be thrilled with your little boy when the time comes.

@Heebyjeeby99 I'm sorry that the doppler didn't work. I hope that you feel some reassuring movements soon. Please don't compare yourself to others, I know it can be difficult but lots of people say they didn't even look that pregnant towards the end of their pregnancy.

@excitedmama hello! I'm sorry that you're feeling sad but please don't hesitate to reach out to your midwife. You might feel much better for it.

I think I've added everyone who has updated their stats to this point. @DinoMamasaurus, could you send me your due date and what # baby this will be for you?

If you're not on the list up top, please don't forget to send me your due date and what # child this will be!

@toomanyflatwhites

Never underestimate how much a cold can total you in pregnancy (quote unquote my midwife) PLUS multiple colds chip away at you and really drag you down.

It’s a cliche but do whatever it takes to fully rest and switch brain off for at least 30mins a day, water, rest, vitamins, blah blah blah

Reastie · 30/01/2019 12:14

PaulHollywood can I ask you what your apt with mental health personnwas like? I’ve been referred to one but have had to cancel two apt’s already as she only works one afternoon a week in a hospital miles away and afternoons are when I still really struggle with nausea (which is related to why I need to see her!). Last time I asked if she could ring me and speak to me on the phone instead as I really do want to se ever but no one called. I’m interested what the appointment is like, is it just like a therapy chat or do they look at active ways to make pg easier etc?

Toomanyflatwhites im coming down with a really nasty cold/cough bug dd has had, it’s not fun.

Heeby fwiw I bought a Doppler for dd, first time I used it I spent 45 minutes finding nothing, I returned it for another one and the next one worked fine and found it straight away.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 30/01/2019 12:52

@reastie

Mine should have been a telephone assessment but I didn’t read the letter and appeared at the office 🤦🏼‍♀️

Basically a run down of the usual:

What’s brought you here
How are you feeling day to day
What’s your MH history
What’s going on in your life right now or work/family/social

and the usual

Are you having thoughts of self harm or suicide?

Basically I said no to the last one but did mention that I’d happily kill everyone I work with (I’m a civil servant).

She understood Grin

Lasted 50 mins and I have 16 (!) sessions coming my way as my life is a hurricane at the moment.

Reastie · 30/01/2019 12:58

Wow PaulHollywood that sounds great. I’m still not sure why she couldn’t ring me at home, surely it’s the people who want to come but can’t that could be the ones that need it the most (I domt include myself in that but hopefully you get the logic). I don’t know how many appointments I’ll get or how often. I had to speak to a mw onnthe phone for her to ask the nurse if she could ring me instead of me coming in for that one time and the mw seemed very judgmental and shocked when I said I had come off of anti anxiety medication specifically before getting pg in preparatoin for being pg (my medication is something I’d have to stop taking during pg anyway and my gp and I had a long discussion about whether to switch to another medication or swap it) and mainly just seemed bothered that I shoukd be taking medication for it which doesn’t fill me with confidence.

2countries1bump · 30/01/2019 13:55

@toomanyflatwhites with you on the colds! Last one hung around for 3 weeks, was fine last week now sick again! Trying to get by on lemon and honey but it sucks!

toomanyflatwhites · 30/01/2019 14:03

You have my sympathy @2countries1bump!!i am usually so resilient and can go years without a cold so this is really bothering me! Have stocked up on vitamins after @PaulHollywoodsSexGut mentioned that (thank you!) as after first trimester folic acid I haven't actually been taking any regularly, but figured it's worth a try!

SilverSister · 30/01/2019 14:07

Agree about colds - the one I had before Christmas completely wiped me out for two weeks. People in the workplace are having more colds now so I am avoiding them as much as possible. I really don't want another cold!

Also feeling very relieved this afternoon. After my very unsatisfying meeting with consultant last week about elective C, I contacted the hospital PALS by email to say how worried it was making me and ask if they could help with a speedier resolution. Got a call today from antenatal sister and I've got a much clearer plan, a different consultant and a lot of reassurance. I'm so relieved! Going on my baby moon on Monday so I'm extra pleased not to have the uncertainty hanging over me for my holiday.

DinoMamasaurus · 30/01/2019 15:33

@Kescilly due 1st June 2019 and this will be baby number 2 for me :)

allfurcoatnoknickers · 30/01/2019 15:57

@excitedmama @PaulHollywoodsSexGut I was/am the same. Very down all the time, lackluster, losing interest in things, feeling very "blah" about everything, not excited at all. I told my consultant and she set me up with a psychologist, and now I have a weekly meeting to work though my feelings and develop some coping strategies.

I had my first session last week, and it helped a little. If nothing else having a professional tell me that it's fine to hate being pregnant, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong with me is reassuring.

LauralovesLuke · 30/01/2019 18:13

Ahhh this thread moves fast!

@koalas - can you avoid forceps if baby is stuck? I want to, but can I ask for emergency C-section at that stage?

@toomanyflatwhites - I'm so glad I'm not the only one with weak pelvic floor! I thought tiny wees when I cough too hard/sneeze were just a consequence of turning 30 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

KoalasAteMyHomework · 30/01/2019 18:28

@LauralovesLuke I honestly couldn't answer that question. With DS it was only really used to guide him out whilst I pushed. But other posters may know. I'd imagine you could have a c section instead, but would probably depend on a number of factors related to the specifics of your labour and the baby position.

hexagon01 · 30/01/2019 20:46

@LauraLovesLuke I believe there is a point where the baby is too low for a section, and that it’s safer to use forceps. I talked about some of the stuff with my VBAC midwife while trying to make a decision about my birth this time (which I haven’t yet).

fee1234 · 30/01/2019 20:55

@toomanyflatwhites I have the exact same right now! My second cold, sore hips, and my shoulders are breaking out in spots again.

I have my 22 week midwife appointment tomorrow, getting my MATB1 certificate and sending it away to my work, decided to stop at 36 weeks for maternity leave. Anyone else thought about when they are going to stop?

Kescilly · 30/01/2019 21:03

Thanks @DinoMamasaurus!

I’m another one with a cold here. I miss being able to breathe easily.

How’s everyone else doing? Any scans coming up? Have people picked out names yet?
