Happy Moanday all !!!!

Had my scan (22 weeks 3days ) on Friday , All is well. Didn't find out sex, though i'm sure the Sonographer was desperate to tell me as she asked about 3 times if we were 'finding out today'. I was tempted just to say ah go on then.
Have compared it to scan of DS but they kind of look the same-ish.

Its moving around loads, and has done since pretty early on

AnnainNZ - i'm totally with you on John Cussack,

my crush at the moment though is on James Purefoy whose Mark Anthony in Rome, its about the only thing on telly i'm watching, lots of sex and bad language, flipping great.

ara · 09/07/2007 17:55

Happy Monday too!

Thanks for being raging on my behalf everyone, for some reason it makes me feel a bit more righteous!!

Another nail went in their coffin today....i've been offered cash to go on a professional development trip to 2 big events that happen once every five years and once every ten years in Germany - I think only 8 people in the country have been offered this.

Back on earth, I had a phone call from my boss this morning (female, no kids, doesn't want any) to say that given the fact that i am being granted home working, she doesn't think it would be appropriate to allow me to go on this excursion as it would compromise the needs of the service.

So I have to turn it down. I've decided I am definitely not going back and I am also going to write to the people who have offered this trip (who are my work's major funders) and tell them the true and honest reason that I am not being supported by work to accept this fantastic, free opportunity. I am very sad about all of this - I really feel like I'm being penalised by them. Saw a nice house yesterday tho, that cheered me up a bit.

Aikigypsy - thanks for the link, I am going to have a look at it just now.

Pixe - wee - yes !

LizzieO - congrats on a smooth scan! Are you going to find out the sex or do you want a surprise?

easywriter · 09/07/2007 19:19

Ara - Before I meant to say that I can't believe your employers. Now, however, I've had to have a little break before typing. For f**ks sake!

I'd definately write that honest letter supplying the real reason. How dare they.

When you wave this company goodbye I suspect it'll be without a hint of regret. Am wishing you well and hoping some sort of can of whoop a*se gets opened up on your employers forcing them to behave reasonably.

littleoldme · 09/07/2007 20:18

Lizzie - glad the scan went well.

Ara - bummer about the trip. I'd be really carefull about what you say to the people offering it to you though. Whilst it would be satisifying to fully explain the reason s- I'd be wary of giving your employers any ammunition whatsoever that they might be able to use against you. Especially if you decide to take it further.

Back to work

easywriter · 09/07/2007 20:21

Sage advice! - Littleoldme.

Congratulations LizzieO.

littleoldme · 09/07/2007 20:28

Arghhh - that should have been careful with one l. Shameful.

Pixiefish · 09/07/2007 20:32

ara- I'd check with a solicitor. They can't discriminate against you ont he grounds that you're pregnant which is what they are doing

ara · 09/07/2007 21:00

It's nonsense isn't it?! It's a P R O F E S S I O N A L development trip - which means it's for their benefit - seeing as i work there!

It sums up the mentality of the place though sadly.

Thanks for advice Littleoldme - I will be very careful about wording....been thinking about that this evening. It's not going to do me any good to be bitter so i think the best thing is to be honest but not too detailed or huffy sounding.

The last girl to get pregnant there actually made a complaint against our managers to personnel but didn't get anywhere because it's the Council and they just closed ranks on her.

revelyell · 09/07/2007 21:29

can i join in? im a newcomer (and a latecomer clearly!) both to mumsnet and this thread - ive been lurking over on childbirth thread, addicted to the positive birth stories. now im over it and want to talk to people about just being pregnant!

silkcushion · 09/07/2007 22:16

Hello

I'm new too.

Can I join?

Due 7th November with a little girl (my first baby)

Hoping to bloom soon now that I have finally stopped throwing up!

silkcushion · 09/07/2007 22:27

Ara - did you say your employer was the council? as in county or city council?

If so then they are big enough to be required by law to havea formal grievance procedure. It certainly seems that you are being discriminated against for being pregnant (which is illegal) and you have the right to make a formal complaint.

I agree with whoever said not to involve third parties and sound bitter but an unemotional and factual complaint is a different matter.

You sound as though you've already decided not to return post baby - so what have you got to lose?

I presume you are not a member of a Union?

jetgirl · 09/07/2007 23:02

Ara - definitely sounds like discrimination to me. As a teacher, technically I work for the council too - they sent me loads of stuff about rights and so on, have yours? I also checked lots of stuff with my union - great especially on health and safety matters which includes working hours, environment etc.

LizzieO - totally with you on James Purefoy, though not sure about Mark Antony's beard.

My dd has conjunctivitis at the mo and I've had great fun trying to put the eye drops in today! After we had put her to bed tonight we could hear her saying to her bears 'Hannah brave', as that's what I'd told her she'd been after every attempt. She made her spiderman toy have the eye drops too - he was brave as well apparently!

Did anyone watch Fight for Life on BBC one tonight? Amazing stuff, cried at all the tiny babies and so pleased all of them had happy endings.

silkcushion · 09/07/2007 23:04

Hi Jet

I can't watch anything to do with babies at the moment - I'm seem to end up a snivelling mess - whether it's happy or sad.

Is this what pregnancy does to me?

sparklygothkat · 09/07/2007 23:25

Hi all,
I keep looking at the for sale board and seeing all the baby boy stuff, and thinking 'ooooooooooo' but then I remember I actually don't know what I am having... I think its a boy, but haven't found out (yet!!! )

RGPargy · 10/07/2007 00:16

hi everyone!!!

This is one of the first chances i've had to sit down and properly relax all day. As you can imagine, it's been really really hectic and i felt very much like a spare part coz i couldn't do much! I took in lots of light stuff from the lorry to the house so that wasn't toooooo bad. We got the keys at about 1.30pm and had unloaded the Luton by 2.45. Not bad going! Still had an other couple of car loads to unload but that was less daunting than the thought of more Luton unloading! Finished unloading everything by about 5 and then went for a swift guinness and blackcurrant at our local pub. Pure bliss!

Believe it or not my main concern about moving was getting the cats lol. I managed to get one of them no problem as she's a dozy mare and very trusting so i just picked her up and shoved her in the box. Getting the other cat however was slightly more worrying! He had done a disappearing act so we had to go back later for him. I called him for a bit and he eventually came ambling in but of course the house was empty so he looked very sheepish! Anyway, thankfully my DP was strong enough to shove him in the cat box (my cat is exceptionally strong for a little cat). They are now happily cooped up in the small (baby's) room for the time being with food, water, litter etc so they'll stay there now until after the Virgin/Telewest man has been tomorrow morning and then i'll let them out to explore.

Crikey, what a ramble about my cats!! Sorry everyone!!

Hope you are all well and welcome to our two new people and congrats on your pregnancies!

Right, suppose i'd best go as i've hijacked some random's wireless net connection to come online and say hi.

speak to you all again tomorrow (hopefully!).

xxx

Hi all
Congrats and welcome to Newbies !
Thanks for kind words about scan, def no finding out now what it is, updating the list as i'm SURPISE, tho' secretly i think its prob a boy as my family and DH family are predominantly men, although...........have been looking at Gender prediction web sites..i know i know a lot of old baloney, and they are all saying girl, obviously really difficult to tell from scan.

So come on who thinks they can predict the sex of their bumps ????

Ara - the more i read the angrier i get, if you work for the council, contact the Union, it doesn't matter if you aren't already a member JOIN, don't let them get away with this kind of dicrimination its absolutley bloody outrageous, its sounds like you definatley have a case. You could even be looking at compensation of they still try and compromise your career in any way.

RG Pargy - Congrats move, just you make sure now that you take it nice and easy

Wahey very glad I am not the only one having my horny dreams about strange men. I must make it clear that I didn't chose these people to dream about!! Hell when I was pg with DD I had a filthy dream about Bill Clinton! I still haven't been able to look at him in the same way since.

I feel so lucky having looked at everyones elses stats. Here in Aust the second scan is at 18 wks so I haven't had to wait as long and the Doctors clinic I have been going to do all the blood tests and scans at the clinic. I haven't had to go to the hospital and wait around with all of those stinky sick people who always seem to sit next to me!!

I have an appointment with the obstetrician (sp?) on 6th August and at some point a midwife too.

I have to write all this stuff down because I wouldn't be able to remember these appointments even if my life depended on it. I live by my days by my lists!!

LizzieO · 10/07/2007 11:45

Hey Superloopy

Ara- just a quick warning about unions- when I used to work for the Arts Council the attached union wouldnt take on a grievance until you'd been a member for a year. I thought that was terrible, so I hope you dont experience the same!

LizzieO- I was certain I was having a boy from the beginning, mostly that came from not having one bout of morning sickness and lots of peope said thats more common with boys. very unscientific!

superloopy · 10/07/2007 13:54

No I have never watched Kath and Kim. I just haven't ever had the urge though I hear it is pretty funny.

It is just one of those shows which seems to have all of the same actors/comedians who were in TV 20yrs ago - just recycled.

Like all Aussie TV I have discovered since moving back here. Dull recycled crap! No more sitting about on my arse, I might have to actually get up and get a life BLAH!!

I should go to bed now (it is 10:54pm here) and I am getting all tired and grumpy about TV.

Night night girlies........
