mortigua i know exactly what you mean! The pains/contractions i get are very strong and noticable, but come too close together and in clusters! Probably making some cervical progress at least!....perhaps we'll have relatively 'quick/easy' labors...here's hoping Hmm

Mortigua · 10/01/2018 17:46

Oh yes that's a nice thought that they are actually doing something I really hope so!

Gemxo · 10/01/2018 19:59

How do you all know the difference between your mucus plug & just discharge? How are you sure it's your mucus plug that has gone?

Mortigua · 10/01/2018 20:18

Gemxco I am not entirely sure as don't remember seeing mine with either of mine but I think it's consistency!also maybe streaks of blood or perhaps that's the show.
I am starving today and haven't stopped eating! I have a lot of weight to lose too after this baby so am trying to be healthy with my choices but the heartburn is a bit better so it's hard not to get carried away.
Sore Braxtons hicks pretty much all day. I keep getting excited then disappointed then despairing Blush

StylishDuck · 10/01/2018 20:23

I'm going in tomorrow night for induction on Friday. At least I know baby will be here by the weekend.

Can I just ask those of you who were induced before... I was induced with my first but due to reduced movement, not because I was overdue. I had the monitor strapped to my bump for most of the time to check baby's heartbeat. Is this something that happens with all inductions or was it just because of the reduced movement last time? It meant I couldn't move about at all and had to stay sitting up on the bed, which obviously isn't ideal when you're contracting away! I'd ideally like to be able to walk about when it starts this time.

Mummyme87 · 10/01/2018 20:31

Depends on policy. For postdates we do one CTG every 24hours (we actually do outpatient inductions), then In established labour continuous monitoring until baby is born.

StylishDuck · 10/01/2018 20:36

Thanks @Mummyme87 . Hopefully I'll have a bit more freedom to move about this time. The problem last time was that after my waters broke contractions started really quickly and were really intense. I was still in the antenatal ward at this point with no gas & air. They kept saying I could get diamorphine but only once they got a decent trace of baby's heart rate. But I was squirming about so much the monitor kept falling off. This went on for about 4-5 hours before I got down to the labour ward by which point I was practically begging for an epidural. I was desperate to go into labour naturally this time but it's not looking likely now unfortunately Sad

StylishDuck · 10/01/2018 20:42

Maybe I didn't mean diamorphine...pethidine maybe?

I'm a chemist as well Grin

Mortigua · 10/01/2018 20:53

I was induced last time at 41 weeks ( and with my first actually but different reasons as labour had begun naturally with her )
I was monitored but that may have been other reasons.
Wow mummyme87 outpatient inductions sound great I was thinking I wish it was a possibility.

Mummyme87 · 10/01/2018 21:15

stylishduck a lot of units give diamorphine.. we do pethidine but apparently diamorphine is better.

StylishDuck · 10/01/2018 21:47

Ok, maybe I'm not talking rubbish then Smile

Allmychildrenhavepaws · 10/01/2018 22:33

stylish duck i was kind of induced, was in early labor-borderline established at 3-4cm when they broke my water, yes it was continuous monitoring unfortunately, i think it depends on the unit...some will offer intermittent momitoring if you really push for it. No one can actually force you to do anything, you do have the right to refuse things, just ask why they insist on this, why they insist on that etc....and argue if its medically necessary. My contractions went to excruciating the moment my waters were broken too, they had me on the drip at max level when they broke my waters. My epi failed too which was grim...so i know that pain hun. Sorry to hear you have to have another induction. If i absolutely HAVE to be induced this time, i will be demanding an epi before they even start induction! Hoping the epi may work this time if needed...obviously hoping i go natutally and dont need an epi at all...we shall see!

Allmychildrenhavepaws · 10/01/2018 22:36

Pethedine done nout for me...going for diamorphine this time round for sure!

StylishDuck · 10/01/2018 22:41

I'm kind of seeing it as a means to an end now tbh. I know baby will be here by the weekend so I'm focusing on that! If I need another induction/epidural then so be it. I managed it before, I can do it again!

And this is definitely the last baby I'm having Grin

Mummyme87 · 11/01/2018 06:52

I hallucinated on perhidine horribly so hoping to avoid it, we don’t have diamorphine either 😩 hoping as I got to 9cm last time once I get into labour it will be quick. Hated entonox also... hoping co-dydramol, TENS, essential oils (lavender and ylang ylang) will see me through with Entonox if I really need it. Hoping and praying 🙏🏻

Re continuous monitoring for inductions. If it’s a postdates induction with no other issues, and the propess is all you need, there is a good argument not to have the continuous monitoring. If it’s anninduxtion for medical reasons (ie fetal problems or diabetes etc it would be highly recommended to have continuous monitoring, if you require the hormone drip (syntocinon) yes continuous monitoring is absolutely required as is pretty high up on the causing fetal distress. Epidural is in majority of units (don’t know any where it’s not) a requirement for continuous monitoring as can also cause fetal distress.
But question everything, is it necessary, is there any other options, pros and cons etc

StylishDuck · 11/01/2018 07:28

Thanks so much for all your advice @Mummyme87 . It must be a bit strange/annoying coming into a thread like this as a midwife and being bombarded with all these questions when you're pregnant yourself. You've been amazing!

I really hope you get the birth you're hoping for. I hope we all do! As long as all the babies and mums are healthy that's all that matters Smile

Allmychildrenhavepaws · 11/01/2018 08:11

Leaking/dripping colostrum now with contractions...mainly when i stand up??? He feels so low...come on baby, be good for mummy and come soon!!!

Mummyme87 · 11/01/2018 08:23

Come on baby. Bit of nipple stimulation to get things moving a bit more? If you have a Holland and barratt close by maybe get some clary sage or rose oil and have a bath with it or run it in to your feet with some olive oil?

Maybebaby2 · 11/01/2018 11:46

Hi all, been absent a few days, very busy with baby Ivy Rose. Feeding is proving more difficult than I first thought mainly due to her being so sleepy because of jaundice, she feeds for 5 mins then falls asleep and slips off her latch which has made my nipples incredibly sore! But she is back to her birth weight so is obviously getting what she needs.

It's her due date today! Can't quite believe she is 2 weeks old already!!

Hoping to see some more lovely baby news here soon, you're nearly there ladies!

January 18 #7 The one with all the arrivals
cheshiremama89 · 11/01/2018 11:52

Wow @Maybebaby2 she is absolutely beautiful Thanks

cheshiremama89 · 11/01/2018 11:57

*Is everyone else washing all newborn clothes ahead of baby's arrival?
*
It all looks so fresh and new! Seems a shame to run it through my decrepit old washing machine!

But I then think of where they have been made and factory germs etc Hmm

Maybebaby2 · 11/01/2018 12:04

Thank you @cheshiremama89 😀 I did wash clothes, felt much better that her delicate skin would be touching nice clean clothes. If you're worried about old washing machine could you give them a quick hand wash?
Oh and reading back on the thread I know you had a lot If responses about the injections but I just wanted to say we had them during the skin to skin hour and neither I or Ivy even noticed the needles we were too wrapped up in cuddles and love 😀

Mummyme87 · 11/01/2018 12:07

I don’t wash new clothes, only ones I’ve had in storage. Life’s to short to wash clean clothes!!

Gorgeous baby there maybebaby

cheshiremama89 · 11/01/2018 12:07

@Maybebaby2 that's good to know!
I'm definitely for the Vit K, and will see what happens regarding the placenta.

So jealous you're on the other side!!! It feels like a lifetime away! Xx

Waitingonasmile · 11/01/2018 12:30

I'm struggling with sore nipples also @Maybebaby2 . Ordered nipple shields and hoping it'll help. I had forgotten about the constant feeding at the start!!

Good luck to everyone! So close to the end and meeting those babies now. Thanks
