Inspired by the ladies in the October ante-natal club thread but not wanting to clog it up with incessant HB chatter, I thought I'd start a little thread for anyone planning a home birth this year!

I thought it would be a nice place to share tips, advice, experiences and generally have a chat about it all!

I'm due DC2 in early October and am hoping, all risks considered to have a home birth!

Love to hear from anyone else!

Hi alrey

How exciting for you! I wasn't brave enough to do it at home the first time! :D

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

How are all the homebirthers and hopefuls doing? any more birth stories? who is due next?

Allstoppedup · 22/07/2015 13:28

Feeling a little deflated (despite the rapid tummy/bum/thigh inflation) as my bloods are showing I'm anaemic and if they don't go up from the supplements I need to have an IV iron transfer. My midwife has been fairly supportive of my HB but has said if I have very low iron come 'labour day' I might want to reconsider HB as there is a higher risk of pph for me. Sad

Still, only 30 weeks so hoping there is time to turn it round and I'm hitting the iron hard! Grin

Hello! Im at 23 weeks now! I have a bump and although have anterior placenta, feeling a fair few kicks.

Whats everyone's opinion on declining blood tests? I had the early blood tests done and they tested me for indicators of potential high bp without my consent, im now undecided whether to have the blood tests at 28 weeks.

Im taking spa tone, and in my first pregnancy my iron levels dipped but not dramatically. As well as an iron rich diet, i dont think a lower than 'needed' would really change my mind about home birth, so i kind of dont see the point.....

Topsy34 · 23/07/2015 22:35

Allstoppedup, what levels are you at currently?

JessTT · 23/07/2015 22:44

Hi all, I am 34 weeks with 3rd (and final!) bubba. Went for a homebirth with my first but ended up in hospital, very straightforward lively homebirth in pool with second which am hoping to replicate this time round :-)
Topsy34 I refused blood test last appointment just because I felt fine (know my iron levels are ok) and didn't feel the need for it. Will just see how I feel at the next one....

JessTT · 23/07/2015 22:46

Oops, that should have read 'lovely' homebirth, not 'lively' Smile (was actually pretty peaceful!) xxx

Allstoppedup · 23/07/2015 22:55

Topsy Last week I was at 7.9 and felt absolutely awful- breathless just standing up/sitting down and so, so tired. I couldn't even lift my 19 month old. Sad

I honestly feel much better for the ferrous sulphate but it's already making me feel, er, uncomfortably sluggish! Blush I had low iron with my first but not this low. The supplement + spatone and an iron rich diet did help last time so I'm crossing my fingers! Grin

I think if it was a touch under I wouldn't let it affect my decision but considering how bad I was feeling last week, I did start to doubt my HB choice for the first time!

Ahhhh this popped up on active convos Smile
I'm 38wks and planning my second home birth. Had PE with my first so had a bit of a battle to get everyone (ok the consultant) on board with me delivering at home and this time my platelets are against me Sad my lovely community MW had to go to the clinical OB lead to get the ok with my platelets at 104. Was tested again on Monday so results should have been back by now, I can only hope my MW is trying to get a plan together.

Allstoppedup · 23/07/2015 23:25

waves at rugbugs hi!

Ooh. Not long to go for you! Hope you get the test results you want. Flowers

Hi just an update from me, same as really, counting down to finishing work. Hired our soul. Only slight snag is baby measuring big so just seeing how that goes.
Also baby is on the right and id like it on the left, so trying all sorts to shift itSmileSmile
Off to buy nursery stuff today, feeling unprepared for another small person in our lives
Hope you're all well. Eating all that steak and Spatone xx

Topsy34 · 08/08/2015 08:42

Been a bit quiet on here, thought i would bump it up and see whos about?

25 weeks now :) feeling really positive! I have a hypnobirthing lady round next week to keep going on our refresher.

I am just looking at ordering a liner for the birth pool, started on the soa tone, and finally fancying steak! Hurrah!

Trying to like smoothies at the moment as struggling to eat fruit, the texture is all wrong at the moment, no idea why, i usually eat at least 2 apples a day. I am loving the smoothie from sainsburys kale and something.....yum.

Topsy34 · 08/08/2015 08:45

Forgot to say i have decided against the blood tests, the more i think about it, the more i dont want them.

allstoppedup that must be horrible, its quite distressing to feel like that. I still think that if i start feeling light headed etc, then i can tell my mw or gp and take a prescribed iron supplement.

Beesandbutterflies · 08/08/2015 09:09

Hi topsy,
36 weeks here. Home birth meeting next week. Decided to decline the growth scans for the time being. Also adding random things to my shopping list, mat pads, nappies SmileSmile, sieve!!! Shock
Still totally unprepared, sure we were much more organised last time.
Have you done the hypnobirthing before? I'm interested in it. I just did the CDs last time and trying todo them again Grin
Take care x

scatterbrainedlass · 11/08/2015 10:34

30 weeks tomorrow, just waiting now really, should get the HB go-ahead in a few weeks and then we can get all prepared... I think we're going to go for a pool but don't want to buy/arrange hire yet until we know we've got a green light. All exciting :D

Allstoppedup · 16/08/2015 08:33

Hiya how's everyone doing? Any birth lovely new birth stories?!

My iron is up (hurrah!) I'm practising my hypnobirthing (and loving it) and bought my birth pool and am feeling SOOOO excited to meet the little guy who seems tho be currently trying to kick his way out!

Hope everyone is feeling/doing/planning well!

7 weeks to go!

ollieplimsoles · 29/08/2015 19:05

Ive been following Alls thats great news about the iron,

We also have 7 weeks to go til due date with our first baby, we really would like a homebirth. My baby is measuring a little small, bump was only 27cms at 32 weeks.

We will know on the 10th if the home birth will be a go or not so much, as we have a consultant appointment about a hereditary blood clotting issue, they might suggest I go to hospital... We will have to see!

Allstoppedup · 10/09/2015 17:01

Just checking in again. As of Monday I will be officially booked in for my HB as I hit 37 weeks! Yay!

Hope everything is still going well for everyone and ollie hope you've got a decision you are happy with either way! Grin

Hi! Can I join you all?

I'm 24w with my 5th DC, and am hoping for my first HB. My births so far have been spontaneous, reasonably quick (all 3-6 hrs) and just with G&A/TENS, so I'm not actually planning to 'rock the boat' with changing too much. I'm just really excited to have the added comfort of my own home.

scatterbrainedlass · 27/10/2015 15:41

Hey, it's gone quiet in here, any HB's to report? Still waiting here, 40+6 today, so the little pickle had better hurry up or I'll not get to have my HB Sad
