Kiwi I've ignored most of what the physio said as I've found my SPD to be the most painful when I sit with my legs down. Car rides and restaurants and dinner at the table and I'm hobbling like a hobbled thing. On the sofa, both legs up but not crossed has been best for me. Sleeping on my side is also agony but then for me it's one leg worse than the other. Basically my hips / pelvis need to have the load spread evenly with no pulling or pressure.

Bean has stayed in the optimum position for a while now and at last MW appt was 3/5s engaged. I do try to do the kneeling thing but mostly I do it in the bathtub with the overhead shower pounding my lower back.

Happy birthday blueCake

kiwi my feet are the same... I bought a pair of flip flops 2 sizes bigger which are all I can fit my feet in now!

My bp meds give me terrible heartburn so spend the hour after taking them drinking milk/coke etc until I can take gas is on

zing your ds sounds very cute

fifi669 · 20/06/2014 11:37

DP is lovingly telling me I have cankles. Feet (esp the right) have started to swell as have my already a bit strange ankles.

Also have developed a cyst on my upper, inner thigh. Doctor gave me antibiotics for the infection yesterday and said it'll prob pop and all it's glorious come out. I said at this stage I'm glamorous already so one more thing won't defeat me! It does make sitting an issue....

ZingWhale · 20/06/2014 12:12

I wear crocs only.
movers poured water from an outside toy into my shoe box by accident and my flip flops got a bit mouldy.Confused

no energy to deal with that. nor want to breathe in cleaning stuff.

Auntie
DS1 is cute. and very cheeky.
he will be 13 next month and such a teenager already, but he hugs me all the time and calls me "my dearest mother"!Smile

Sparky321 · 20/06/2014 12:16

Hi all sorry not been a regular poster but have been a regular reader until the last week. Just to let you know our baby girl was born by c section 4 weeks early on Tuesday. Hope everybody is well and I look forward to reading over your news

fifi669 · 20/06/2014 12:31

Congratulations sparky was that planned or an EMCS?

Sparky321 · 20/06/2014 12:35

EMCS after waters broke and it was discovered she was breech with foot extended!

GrouchyKiwi · 20/06/2014 12:50

Congratulations sparky! Hope you're both recovering well. Enjoy your little one. Smile

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies. I agree that sitting along the sofa is the most comfortable thing, just don't get to do it a lot at the moment! DD is quite demanding, plus it's been so lovely we've been spending a lot of time outside.

I'd love to live in flip flops but I have to have orthotic inserts in my shoes. Sad Considering getting a cheap pair of canvas slip-ons a size or two bigger.

Incapinka · 20/06/2014 13:52

Happy birthday Blue and
Congratulations Sparky!

AuntieMaggie · 20/06/2014 14:22

Congratulations Sparky - hope you're recovering well

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 20/06/2014 14:36

Congratulations Sparky and happy birthday blue (momma chocolate!)

Bit of a silly question for any second timers on here - have been having period style aches in my abdomen for the last hour. Pretty sure they're just a new variant of Braxton Hicks as they don't seem to get any more intense and the same thing happened yesterday afternoon and Sunday eve. Midwife said that the baby was beginning to engage (the very tip of his head!) yesterday so I assume this is all part and parcel of that? Does this mean I'm doomed to go on having these pains for the next few weeks until he actually make an appearance (36 weeks today)?

Oh and in other news the inevitable finally happened and FIL has finally asked whether we're going to circumcise and is disappointed that the answer is no. (Not meant as an comment on anyone else's choices, btw, but as we're not religious it seemed unnecessary). Now bracing myself for the inevitable round of lobbying and guilt...

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 20/06/2014 14:36

Momma chocolate!?! Mmm chocolate, that was supposed to say...

AuntieMaggie · 20/06/2014 15:27

itsalways I've had the same pains last week and mw also said the tip of head was now in pelvis so I assume it's normal

For anyone of a nerdy persuasion who likes their stats, I've found a website which (based on your due date) gives you the odds of going into labour on or by each day. So for example, with my due date of the 15th July, 0.18% (about 1/500) would go into labour today, and 0.62% (about 1/200) would have had their baby by today. The odds increase every day up until due date when 50% of women with that due date would have had their baby. Cool huh?

moresnow - eep, that's what my friend said too! They've gone away now though so I'll just keep an eye on them if they do return. Sorry don't have any advice re dentist but hopefully they can sort it out - toothache is horrible.

auntie - good to know I'm not the only one, although sorry you're going through the same.

ellen - am definitely of the nerdy persuasion so will be looking at that link later.

1 more week till maternity leave starts!

mixi82 · 20/06/2014 17:37

Hi everyone, sorry not been in touch recently, so much going on with being back and forth from hospital with my OC and just lots of sleeping! Finally got my date to be induced, so Friday next week at 11am I go in.....eeeeeek!!! Very excited though :) baby's head is engaged 3/5 which happened over 4 days, is that pretty normal?? I did notice a difference this morning as it felt like something poking me in the foofoo when I walked which was REALLY uncomfy! No melon feeling though, just poking lol. Also, just woke from a snooze and was getting lower backache, feeling like I was on my period - went to loo first time for a wee(prep for tmi!)and was fine, stood up from loo and felt something trickle out....left it as I had a pad on. Went back 5 mins later(for no2!) and noticed an off colour yellowy tinge on pad, then wiped(really sorry tmi!)and had tiny little blood clots on paper. Is that a show?? It wasn't much, just like the stuff you'd get as you were coming off period, no big clots just little dabs

AuntieMaggie · 20/06/2014 17:44

moresnow the dentist may be able to prescribe codeine

mupperoon · 20/06/2014 18:44

Sparky321 woo hoo!

ellentullo This is what I've been looking for! Thanks.

Has anyone else been advised to eat dates? A midwife I spoke to the other day said she tells her ladies to eat 6 a day from 34 weeks on, as it reduces the need for synthetic oxytocin, increases dilation and decreases labour time. The study she quoted has a ridiculously small sample size and there's no indication of whether it was funded by the Jordan Date Marketing Board, but needless to say I was straight down to the dried fruit aisle of my local supermarket.

Also, if anyone else is using Natal Hypnotherapy or HypnoBirthing CDs, how on earth do you listen/focus on breathing when a battle between a giant squid and a tiger is going on in your belly? Damned if I can.

BlueC2 · 20/06/2014 19:46

Evening all - thanks for all the birthday wishes have had such a lovely day out with DH for afternoon tea and a wander at a National Trust property though now shattered! A couple of the guides inside the house were asking how long til I was due and trying to get me to use the lift rather than stairs-think they thought I was going to into labour right then :)

Huge congrats sparky :)

mixi that does sound like it might be a show. I've also had the stabbing feeling down below as baby has been getting head engaged-it was 3/5ths on Monday but I think it may have dropped further today!

zing DH has excelled himself this year and I have been v expressive in my thanks to him - must say his baking creations are amazing! hidden talents!

Whoever was mentioning period type pains that's how I started last time but it can go on for a while.

Another excitement in our house Tonight was DS doing his first ever wee on the potty :) Not sure I'm ready for full on potty training just at the moment but this is a good start!

Right, dinnertime!

AuntieMaggie · 20/06/2014 20:02

My notes say baby's head has varied between 3/5ths and 4/5ths palpable since about 35 weeks but mw said that its less moveable now...

BlueC2 · 20/06/2014 20:30

Ps anyone else been feeling v nauseous? It's been like I've been car sick all day. I thought it might be linked to the vertigo but not had a dizzy session since Wednesday so now wondering whether it could be a v early labour sign?! probably just wishful thinking though Bump has felt heavier and achy today too. Do definitely have a feeling this baby could come early though so just a matter of waiting and seeing I guess!

ismarah · 20/06/2014 21:44

Mupperoon Dates are excellent for fibre too...but if you are prone to migraines or headaches from red wine, you might want to be careful with dried fruit as it often contains sulfites..

Have done literally nothing today. After yesterday's OD, it seemed prudent.

Blue nausea could be the precursor to labour but it could also be dehydration? Glad you had a nice birthday though.

Congrats Sparky!

Congratulations sparkey Thanks Hope you are recovering well. We do have a postnatal thread now - it's not that used YET but by the sound of things over here it won't be long before it's super busy so mark your place:)

Zing: your DS sounds super cute love that little story - both bits Grin

Mixi that does sound like a show to me Smile

I'm shattered have a really bad back tonight, I'm not sure if it's perhaps a little advance warning, the day my waters broke with DS I had back ache all day. It could be nothing however as I tried to sort more of my house out tonight and unpack lots. I didn't do tooooo much but probably lifted things a lot heavier than I should haveBlush so could be that.

Getting really stressed about my house now. MW is coming over Tuesday and I wanted to show her I'm totally ready for a home birth. The room I plan to birth in is where iv been storing boxes I havn't got round to opening yet.
Feel like a home birth is putting extra pressure on myself to get everything perfect and done quickly. Getting irritated with DP that he's in Canada and I'm standing on chairs putting books on shelves and moving big boxes when he should be the one doing it AngryConfused
Anyway going to try and sleep now can't get comfy tonight but for the first night in forever I have no hayfever or heartburn keeping me awake.Grin

Night all (probably see you in a few hours) xxx

AuntieMaggie · 20/06/2014 22:33
