Welcome to the never-ending first trimester, and maybe some of us into the second trimester this thread?

Ahh yeah, just looked it up and here's the lowdown on hair dying:
www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/949.aspx?CategoryID=54

I get highlights anyway, so it just sits on the hair itself, not the scalp...will ask for a strand test though, just in case.

Happy days!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/05/2014 22:52

Kate, go in the day before for a strand test if you can.

CatFaceCrayola · 12/05/2014 22:52

Overdone it today. Work followed by running Youth groups all evening + not eating a proper tea. Currently curled up with my hot water bottle trying to force feed myself a banana/yoghurt :(

espa · 12/05/2014 22:52

Somerset try Sterimar, a saline spray. No decongestant. I used it with sinusitis a few weeks ago.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/05/2014 22:53

And it doesn't matter if it doesn't touch your scalp as it's the hair itself that reacts differently in pregnancy rather than your scalp, which is just skin. It'll probably be fine though.

KateJ28 · 12/05/2014 23:11

Yes, I get that it not touching your scap still means it might affect how it interacts with your hair still, but the NHS site says it also means it can't get into your bloodstream via your hair, just your scalp so it reduces any risk.

I'm not sure I can go for a strand test in advance as my hairdresser is back near my mum's (had her for about 15 years!!!) and so I'll only be back on the day though. Will see anyway, and speak to the hairdresser about it :-) thanks peace!

Catface, I hope uou manage to keep the banana and yog down!

KateJ28 · 12/05/2014 23:12

Sorry, I know my message before wasn't v clear peace! Mixing 2 different issues!

espa · 13/05/2014 05:12

Ugh ms at this time in the morning after 6 hours sleep is not good. Really hope I can Getty through these flights, not like there's even a cocktail waiting for me at the other end!!

What about non chemical dyes like henna or crazy colour? Are they the same? I haven't seen this much brown hair since I was about 13!!!

ots · 13/05/2014 07:52

Had some more brown spotting overnight, and this morning got quite strong period pains :(
Called early pregnancy ward who were lovely. They have booked me in for a scan tomorrow afternoon. Need hand holding please :(
7+1 (hopefully)

SassehMonsta · 13/05/2014 07:52

Gosh, don't eat 2 bowls of rice for dinner - talk about bloated this morning, oof!

Nausea seems minimal currently, but do far only ventured to the bathroom and back. Read a very soppy story last night and this morning, felt good to have a cry. Back to work today, not looking forward to it at all. :(

No worries Kate; I trained as a hairdresser in my yoof and little nuggets of information come to the surface every now and then :P

I don't feel tooooo sick this morning yet, but I am exhausted. I'm 7+5 today.

Pepsiaddict · 13/05/2014 08:13

I think lemsip also has phenylephrine in it so that's why it's not recommended during pregnancy.
We received our scan date for mid June through yesterday which is very exciting. The booking in appointment went well - the community midwife has changed and the new one recognised us from when we were in hospital the last time. We have a video of her cup feeding our 4 day old after I had an anaesthetic and couldn't breastfeed. Was lovely to see a friendly face and she's brilliant at taking blood which is great as all my peripheral veins are knackered after having had loads of blood taken. Hope everyone has a lovely day.

PunkyPod · 13/05/2014 08:17

Good luck today Ots really hope you get a happy scan.

I have my hair highlighted (about twice a year because that's all i can afford) and got it done at 37 weeks when preg with DD. No issues in any way. Really need it done again.....!

I'm really hoping there is a healthy baby growing in me because i've been feeling what i'm sure are little movements. with DD i felt them at 15 weeks and it was like teeny tiny little taps. Well on Sunday I got the same thing and last night i noticed it again. I really hope i'm not making it up. I can only assume it's a growing baby yet i'm still struggling to believe i'm even growing one! My scan is next Thursday and i'm counting down the days.

Sasseh your MW sounds like a misery guts. I hope you don't have to see her again. It's fine to keep up any regular exercise you usually do anyway. Just don't suddenly decide you want to become a body builder if you've not done weight training before! Wink

So my paunchy belly is really there now and my belly button which was streatched to within an inch of it's poor life with DD is already starting to go into an outy. It's all happening rather quickly!

11+2 Shock

Rejjie · 13/05/2014 08:27

SassehMonsta Can I just say that you belly dancing, pregnant or otherwise, sounds fantastic and your midwife sounds like she's from the dark ages. If you can exercise to this level, then that's fantastic and can only be of benefit to you and the baby. Considering so many of us seem to be sitting on the sofa eating crisps and feeling sorry for ourselves then I think you should be proud!

ots Good luck today. I hope everything is fine.

KateJ28 · 13/05/2014 08:51

Totally agree with Rejjie on the belly-dancing front - am very impressed! I'm trying to do my pregnancy pilates DVD regularly which is much more sedate and that's quite enough!

Exhausted this morning, and slightly queasy, but still lucky enough not to feel too sicky. Only been sick once so far and think that was because I ate far too much dinner going out one night rather than anything else!!!

ots really pleased they were nice and listened to you and booked a scan in just to check - hope you feel better today and that tomorrow goes well Smile. Lots of people seem to have bleeding without it being any issue (in fact I read somewhere 50% of people get bleeding at some point during pregnancy) and i've certainly had the strong period pains, but it was all fine when I had the early scan. Hoping it's stayed that way!!

7+2

KateJ28 · 13/05/2014 08:55

bigspider the NHS say this about henna etc..

"Highlighting your hair, by putting the dye only onto strands of hair, also reduces any risk. The chemicals used are only absorbed by your hair, and not by your scalp or bloodstream.

Semi-permanent pure vegetable dyes, such as henna, are a safe alternative."

It does say though that even chemical dyes these days are not highly toxic and you'd need them in huge volumes to have an impact - much more than used dying your hair - so I'm not worrying too much. I text my hairdresser and she says she dyes pg ladies hair all the time and has never heard there's been an issue.

xx

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 13/05/2014 09:03

Brilliant thanks! Shall be giving it a go. I am full on exhausted this morning! Went for a long walk n the woods last night with DP (my soul needed some outdoors time regardless of what my manky body was saying) and now I can barely
move. No idea how I'm gonna get through a weekend of walking and fieldwork! Kept my dinner down for first time in ages last night- was only beans in toast- so hurrah! And constipation is mostly resolved.

10 weeks today.

KateJ28 · 13/05/2014 09:43

Congrats on being 10 weeks bighairy!! That still feels a long way off for me.... when's your 12 wk scan?!

V intrepid going walking in the woods at night!! Wink

Fingers crossed for cheesecake, Ots and anybody else with these same early worries. For what it's wirthr, with both my early MCs, once the bleeding started it just got worse so it was kind of obvious what was happening.

SassehMonsta · 13/05/2014 11:15

haah thanks guys - I have only been to one class since discovering - I wimped out of last night's class as I was so shattered (mw, then town with husband hard work!)

thrown up three times since arriving at work an hour and 15 mins ago. Blergh!! Agreed with boss I can work form home, and set up computer to allow me to - yay.
