www.mumsnet.com/Talk/business_start_ups/2068675-crafts-fabrics-and-haberdashery

I'm looking into starting my own business and have posted this in the work section of the website. Any help or advice would be really appreciated!!

I hope everyone is well?

My 16wk appointment was a little dull to be honest. I didn't know get to hear the baby's heart beat Sad it was mainly admit based.

CellyD · 02/05/2014 08:24

Sorry for the typos, I obviously can't commute and type at the same time.

mrsb87 · 02/05/2014 08:32

Cell mine isn't any better! I'm still trying to get used to this annoying auto correct on my phone I'm starting to look completely nuts!

binkybunny · 02/05/2014 12:44

MrsB my Mum set up a craft business a couple of years ago. It did really well but she wound it down after Christmas this year as it was taking up too much of her retirement time, especially in the run up to Christmas!. Her and my Dad were up until 3/4am making crafts ready for the next fayre or order if they had them within a week of each other. Even when she stockpiled, some of the Christmas fayres literally wiped out her stock.

Advice is, be prepared for the late nights (especially with a newborn!) as none of us expected it to take off so quickly. She also had to run at a small loss to start with which really got her down at the beginning, but my sister and I drew up her up a business plan and financial forecast to explain how it works.

Final bit of advice is Word of Mouth is really the best marketing. I designed a website and managed her Facebook page which generated some sales, but it was really just going to one fayre and having a coffee morning at their house with friends and neighbours that kick started the business.

Hope that doesn't sound too doom and gloom. It was a great business, and she said 10 years ago she's have carried on. They just want to enjoy being retired now! Good Luck!

I've decided to start potty training with ds today. Hard work! Floor / pants: 3, potty: 2. Haven't dared leave the house / garden yet though!!

Not sure it was a good idea when I'm feeling knackered today but hey, got to start some time!

porcito · 02/05/2014 15:38

Sorry to hear about the stress bump, horrible timing.

My bump is so sore today, like having a stitch. I think the baby might be allergic to my school. I was fine the entire Easter holidays!

I've also not put on too much weight, even though my waist is expanding by the minute (it feels). I had gone down up until a few weeks ago. I think it was the fact I couldn't eat anything except bananas for 12 weeks... My doctor said it's nothing to worry about, and will start to pile on at some point.

pebble82 · 03/05/2014 09:03

I had my 16 week appointment this week too. It took 3 mins! Receptionist gave me sample pot so did urine test, blood pressure and felt my tummy a bit. Got my urine sample pot back and asked to bring one with me each time. Didn't get to listen to heartbeat either and was also told not until 24 weeks as it's NICE guidelines not to in case it's not easy to find so not to worry the mother.

I've also only put on 1lb if that. Getting bigger though. Guess everyone is different. My friend who is 24 weeks has put on a stone and a half!

Kirstipops · 03/05/2014 09:41

My friend who is 32 weeks has only gained just over a stone! Sitting in the hairdressers, tempted to go straight bed when I get home! For once I wasn't awake before my alarm and could properly have slept on, gutted! Happy Saturday everyone!

I've lost weight too (I'm 14+4) but I've been really sick so am hoping the little one will be ok. Reassuring to hear your doc said not to worry Porcito.

MundayCakes85 · 03/05/2014 09:52

I've put on lots of weight- half a stone when I came off the pill last year, half a stone when I quit smoking- just trying not to get too caught up in it.
DTD last night- but was feeling quite unattractive with all these extra lumps and ended up in tears. Anyone else crying a lot these days?
Hope you all enjoy the sunshine today x

Loulou888 · 03/05/2014 10:19

Feel like crying! No where to sit and waiting in m and s to have boobs measured! 40 mins later ......

Kirstipops · 03/05/2014 12:53

Some silliness to put a smile on your faces

Anyone else have more noticeable cellulite just now, the fronts of my upper thighs are having a dimple party :-O Hoping it's looking worse due to water retention and will go away eventually! 19 weeks today and my bump has taken more of a definite shape the past week, it's sort of oblong/capsule shaped at the bottom!

OP posts:
ohthegoats · 03/05/2014 12:58

I was riddled with cellulite before! Not noticed any difference.

I'm away for the weekend at a place with an actual mirror (my building site house doesn't have any that show below my shoulders), so last night stood in front of the mirror and tried to breath in. Sideways on I've got a clear ridge where my stomach/torso would normally end, but now I have a whole load of bump the other side of it. If that makes sense. At the end of the day after dinner, it's definitely starting under my boobs and a proper early bump sort of shape. In the morning slightly less at the top, but definitely no waist anymore. I'm 19 weeks tomorrow, and didn't have anything to show last weekend, it's all kicked off in week 18.

ExcitedCJ · 03/05/2014 13:17

I just watched Tinkerbell at the cinema with my DD & ended up in tears, sobbing at the end of the film. I felt really emotionally overwhelmed for a good 5 minutes after! Crazy pregnancy hormones!
Looking at shoes helped me back onto the straight and narrow. :)

binkybunny · 03/05/2014 13:36

Trying to pack boxes to move house in two weeks is making me cry! Hate moving!

fedupofrainydays · 03/05/2014 15:47

I've put on 10lbs! But less than my first preg which was a stone at least by now. I was 3.5 stone heavier 2 days before ds was born. After he popped out I had 3 stone to lose. Lost it through bf and regular gentle exercise like walking with the buggy / bjorn. I am worried my bump feels smaller this time. But I can't really remember to be honest. Just need to stop worrying!

LondonJen · 03/05/2014 16:11

Shock Loulou I couldn't be dealing with that, urgh.

I put on half a stone at most (it fluctuates) quite quickly but it's levelled off now. I would imagine because I'm not having to eat all the time to head of the nausea anymore.

My bump has been going for it this week too! 17+3 and some points during the day it sticks out further than my boobs. I find this fascinating as I have big boobs and usually a small waist, now to look down and see boobs then a tummy is bizarre! I'm like you goats I get a real 'shelf' of a tum under my boobs when I've had a big meal!

Went to antenatal pilates today. I don't normally do pilates so it was all a bit new but I only got corrected once. Perhaps the instructor was just being nice to me in my first class though because I'm not sure I was doing it right! Think I will keep going as I imagine it would help with a bigger bump to support.

Me23 · 03/05/2014 21:14

I haven't weighed myself since beginning of pregnancy but I'm sure I've put on aroud a stone already from gorging in first trimester to keep sickness at bay.
I've craving brie baguette so bad! Oh well will hae to wait 5 more months.
I always offer to listen in at 16 week appts but with a proviso they it can take a little while to find hb. At 16 weeks I check the scan and screening results give the booking blood results, check urine, Bp and listen in to baby obv ask how they are etc.. And make sure necessary referrals have been made.
I'm so tired I'm about to go to bed but have horrible heartburn ranitidine is my best friend at the moment, hoping it kicks in soon.

weeonion · 03/05/2014 21:27

good evening everyone! hi there. I have been lurking on this thread for a while and am normally on the November thread but EDD seems to be a moveable thing with 3 different scans giving 3 different dates - EDD is 26th October. This is DC2!

Its cool to read ahead and see you are all doing and how yr pgs are developing. Smile

Binglesplodge · 03/05/2014 21:32

Is anyone else feeling little bubbly movements? This is my first and it seems early at 16 and a half weeks but I'm sure I'm feeling a few bobbly sensations a day, all in roughly the same place. It feels a little like popcorn popping gently and it's noticeable enough that it distracts me briefly if it happens when I'm in the middle of something. Am I going crazy?

ExcitedCJ · 03/05/2014 21:43

Bingle everyone is different, it sure sounds like what it feels like. I'm 16 weeks with DC2 & I am feeling little flutters & kicks. Just very infrequently at the moment but most certainly there.
It's good to hear about everyone else's weight gains or losses, making me feel much more normal.
Me23 you rotter, I would love some Brie now! I'll have to satisfy myself with a baked Camembert tomorrow instead.
I'm having a big chicken curry & a small glass of Guinness for dinner tonight. My best friend is round to watch a movie, just missing the copious quantities of red wine & drunk sing star! :)

ExcitedCJ · 03/05/2014 21:44

Hi Onion much welcome. :)

weeonion · 03/05/2014 21:59

Thanks excitedj!

I have been having flutters for over a week now but i am guessing as its my 2nd - I will feel it earlier??

Weight gain - only about 4lbs but I am swimming nearly every day now as a way to destress and relax so think that is keeping any gain down??

Kirstipops · 03/05/2014 22:41

Hi Onion! :)
I had feta tonight with my dinner, I think I could eat a whole block of it, that and fried halloumi (there's a delish Delia Smith halloumi recipe that involves a dressing with capers, coriander and lime/lemon.....sweet Jesus it's heaven!)
Wish I could feel some definite baby-related fluttery popping etc!
