Also, we've got surname issues. He's already double-barrelled with lots of syllables, I'm a single one syllable surname. We won't get married, and I'm not willing for it to have just his surname... so, we've had to drop one of his bits, and double barrel the remaining one with mine. Weirdly if he uses just the one word surname, he uses the bit he HASN'T chosen to double up with mine (he uses his mum's, yet wants child to have his dad's), and if mine comes first in the double barrel, I expect the child will use that one same as he does.

That's exciting stigz! Where did you find that offer? My 20 week is in 3 weeks tone so am going to wait but if the baby doesn't cooperate I will pay for a gender scan!

Oh, and great news re your new midwife mum2kiss!

I am still thinking will find out sex in four weeks, convinced it's boy still so need to know. Think we will get 4d scan as well, my sister had one and it was amazing experience you can bring extra people along as well. I am mixed race so we are just fascinated to see what our kids look like, so far so good my sisters little boy is beautiful blonde hair brown eyed stunner.

I'm also scared of the 4D ones. Our doctor tried to use it on our 12 week one and it looked like some kind of horror film in there.

Names are a sore point in our house still. I think our child will be nameless until it's old enough to choose its own. Our rules are: has to be acceptable as both a Spanish and English sounding name, it can't be the name of a dog (as all mine have been so far, according to DP), it can't be the name of a child I've taught (that's about 2000 names out), it has to be easy enough for my pronunciation-challenged English mum and his Mexican mum to pronounce, can't have a b or v in it as he pronounces them the same. He actually suggested Adolfo the other day as a genuine contender. Is it too late to swap his genes for someone's with better name choices?!

What about Forrest? Or Elder? Or Herb (for a girl)? Or Cess (you know, like in cess-pit)?

These are some of the suggestions from my other half. He's also incredibly dyslexic, so they are all spelled incorrectly.

We had the girl's option about 3 weeks ago - ridiculously early - but I think it's going to have to stay, since I can't cope with any other suggestions, they make me laugh too much.

I unintentionally had a 4d scan when I had to go back as ds on original appointment wasn't lying so they could see everything. We got a really clear shot of his face. MIL reckoned by the photo we had that he looked like his cousin. Proud and pleased to say when he was born resembled nothing like his cousin and nothing like the photo! All the fluid distorts picture.

All our conversations about names are saying we don't like this or that! Not constructive! We both have a boys name in our families that I am not mad on but I like the shortened version, and dp's grandad was known as that. But it's the name of a tv character I can not stand! And I don't like the association.. Pretty sure people would think we named them after tv person but maybe am being silly.

I have an incling (sp?) that the real reason dp doesn't want to find out gender is because he doesn't want other people to know and 'make a fuss'. I am trying to pin down what he means by this. But also now wondering whether I should say we could both find out and not tell anyone if that's what he wants. Just say we couldn't see at scan. Has anyone who already has kids done this?

Hey, I am new to this board and hoped I could join in! I'm sure October 10 and had my 16 week midwife appointment this week. Finally got to heat the heartbeat, which was such a relief! I get kind of anxious leading up to appointments that something will be wrong. Now I get to look forward to my 20 week scan, which is in about 3 weeks. Anyway, hello! I am adding myself to the list... I hope that's OK.

As far as I can tell the only date you're pretty much guaranteed not to get is your EDD (CSs excluded obv)!

Ds was born on dd based on dates not scan, they put me back 4 days. I wonder when this one will arrive? They also changed date by 4 days this time putting me ahead. Only time will tell? !

Nearly blubbed listening to a child singing along to 'Let it go' on the radio the afternoon. Must be the pregnancy hormones

stigz what you are describing with the tensing up maybe a braxton hicks I got them quite early on. At my 20 week scan I got a cool pic showing baby and the top of uterus having a braxton hicks. Just your body practicing for the job ahead. If in doubt, check with your midwife

We are also doubled barrelled surname so need to choose a simple and short first name so it's not too much of a mouthful or too posh sounding!
