It will get better George. I remember first time around thinking "no one ever told me I'd feel like this!"

Bumpforme2014 · 26/04/2014 19:37

Yes I have the "why did no one tell me it was so bad" I wanted to be pregnant all my life and now I am thinking I had no idea how hard it would be. All worth it I know and there's more good days then bad at moment so just gotta hang on in there! Wish I had a bump though my gut is so inflamed that looks like my bump!

Georgebythesea · 26/04/2014 20:00

Thanks :) it really helps to know I'm not the only one suffering(not that I'd wish it on anyone but you know what I mean!)

Loulou888 · 26/04/2014 22:22

george you certainly aren't alone. Had to rush for the bathroom to hear dd And ds discussing that mummy was being sick again

ohthegoats · 26/04/2014 23:28

I have the 'why did no one tell me' feelings about the constipation. I'm really anxious about avoiding it normally, but now I'm obsessed. Can't eat eggs at all, and am getting through a bag of all bran a week, plus shed loads of fruit. It makes me feel sick, grumpy, gives me headaches and is generally a misery.

CellyD · 27/04/2014 07:51

I've asked a couple of friends why they didn't give me full disclosure about bump growing and they've all said because it didn't seem like the right thing to do. So I remained largely in the dark because I didn't know to ask, 'when does the all day nausea, heartburn and vomiting get replaced (or if you're really lucky) accompanied by bloating, wind, constipation and or SPD...(insert appropriate symptom)?'

As those of us with a fully cooked bean already know, it's all well worth it in the end, it's just remembering that through all the challenges and indignities pregnancy has to throw at you is sometimes tricky.

Anyway I digress, rather than the above self indulgent rant, I came online to share this 20% off code for full price GAP valid until 28 April: GOGAP. In case anyone likes GAP's maternity offering.

Enjoy your Sundays.

mum2kiss · 27/04/2014 07:53

i guess its true when they say we forget most of what is involved in pregnancy and childbirth otherwise everyone would stop at 1 child lol! Plus if the next 6 months are to be a lot better these last 3 will seem insignificant. I cant say ive ever congratulated a pregnant woman and asked how she was for her to say "well Im constipated, can't stop vomitting and generally feel like death but thanks for asking!"

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 27/04/2014 08:45

Hi ruby, nice to see a due-date buddy on the list!

Re baby transport, it depends to some extent on where you live and how you're going to get around. I never missed not having a chassis I could clip the car seat to as I very rarely went anywhere in the car. We lived about a 15 min walk from the baby group/doctors' surgeries/shops and having a well-built pram-style travel system with a single, long handle and a good-sized shopping basket underneath was the most comfortable option for me. I really noticed the difference in maneuverability when I swapped to an umbrella-folding buggy - plus it is extremely hard to push a double-handed buggy with one hand while holding an umbrella over yourself with the other.

However, if I had been driving everywhere and constantly having to dismantle the pram to put it in the boot, then as mum2kiss says, it would have been highly impractical. We've still got both the pram/travel system and buggy, so the only thing I will buy this time round is a Manduca sling (inspired by troubleandfyfe in the earlier discussion). I have a 5.2m long wrap from last time, but while that was great around the house, it was too long to tie in a car park without it trailing on the ground.

Must go and take dd swimming. It's hard enough trying to post while constantly being required to appreciate ball-catching, or being handed a baby doll, etc.

BingoBango85 · 27/04/2014 09:42

14 weeks & thought I'd turned a corner with my anxiety that everything was going to go tits up after good scan. Enjoyed buying a few baby bits too. But today seem to be worrying again that I'll be the person with a load of baby gear and no baby. I think it's down to my friend telling me it was too early to be buying things. Tell me your all buying the odd item or am I being silly? It was so nice to finally allow myself to be excited I don't want to go back to fretting about everything x

Bumpforme2014 · 27/04/2014 10:54

Bingo it's your decision what you want to do, I haven't purchased anything despite window shopping loads but that is more down to wanting to wait and see how big my baby is measuring at 20 weeks because I have a feeling my baby won't fit into newborn stuff and don't want to waste my money. I also want to find out the sex as well.

mum2kiss · 27/04/2014 11:23

Bingo its totally up to you. I bought my.first bits on thursday because aldi had some baby specials that were too good to miss. Dp thinks its too early but the savings over ruled his views on the subject lol!

Kirstipops · 27/04/2014 11:33

Bingo I haven't bought anything yet but that's only because we're saving, doing up our house and also "researching" stuff like prams etc and don't know what I want yet, but my mum is champing at the bit to take me pram shopping! I'd just try to let comments like what your friend said be like water off a duck's back, I think some people at all stages of our pregnancy will inexplicably offer some kind of scare story or negative comment, I don't understand it! My reaction to the Know-alls/Doubting Thomases has been to react with over-enthusiasm and optimism with a subtle but healthy dash of sarcasm in a "you know where you can shove your horror stories?" manner, which they don't tend to know how to react to, so they drop it!
I might make a wee badge that says "I'm pregnant and looking forward to welcoming a new little half-DH/half-me into the world, you won't rain on my preggo parade!"
.....I'd need a mighty big badge..

I need help! I'm having a real panic attack. Just got home to find a referral letter from the hospital asking me to make an urgent appointment at a GENERAL MEDICINE CLINIC with my GP. They are closed today & I have no clue why I need to make the appointment!? Has anyone else had this, does it mean the blood tests came back with something dreadful? Oh shit.. I don't know what to do!

Kirstipops · 27/04/2014 12:06

oh Excited, what a letter to receive over a weekend! Hard to say because all hospitals seem to do things differently, I would have thought the hospital would call you direct to discuss 'concerning' test results though, mine said they would, but to otherwise "expect a letter"? Maybe they just want to refer you to GP so he/she can give you a repeat prescription as your bloods have shown your iron levels are low or something like that?

bumpbangbump · 27/04/2014 12:10

Firstly take a breath, it may be a routine thing. Are you medium to high risk for anything that you know of? Age, weight etc? If yes then it's probably routine. I had many extra appts last time because I was such a fatty!

ExcitedCJ · 27/04/2014 12:11

Thanks Kirsti any sensible suggestions welcomed, keeping me from totally loosing it! The contact is nice too as I'm currently alone & travelling. I really feel like having a good cry, I'm so scared.
I have googled symptoms of everything they test for & I don't think there could be any issues but I just don't know what it might be.

ExcitedCJ · 27/04/2014 12:14

bump I had high BP & pre-eclampsia with DD, I also have a thyroid issue but those things are all monitored & OK at the moment. My BMI is lower this time than with DD. I'm just worried about the line - "clinical staff have reviewed & asked that you make an URGENT appointment." I'm not even at home this week so I hope they tell me over the phone tomorrow. :( I'm very frightened..

ExcitedCJ · 27/04/2014 12:17

BMI is 22

Kirstipops · 27/04/2014 12:29

My GP's surgery can be mental to get an appointment, a week and a half sometimes, the hospital referral letter advising an urgent appointment will let you skip the queue and if it is something like meds that they want to prescribe then they will want to start you on them ASAP so that they will be in your system in good enough time for them to check your blood levels again at your next appointment. I am hypothyroid (not pregnancy related) and they upped my dosage my 25mgs, could it maybe just be something like that, they have reviewed it and want to lower or up your dosage based on your bloods?

OP posts:
ExcitedCJ · 27/04/2014 12:36

I'm trying to convince myself it's haemoglobin related & that iron levels are a little low! This is horrilble..
Just had BP & thyroid levels checked by consultant, so not that!
Panic, panic.
Thanks for replies.

Loulou888 · 27/04/2014 15:42

Surely they would have telephoned you if it was really serious? How frustrating for you xx

ExcitedCJ · 27/04/2014 16:22

It's actually the hospital I have to go & see. I read the letter wrong. I am pretty sure they won't tell me what it is over the phone. Panic is not subsiding!
I suppose they would have called if serious. Please keep FX for me & the little squirt!

Kirstipops · 27/04/2014 16:43

FX indeed but I'm sure I won't need to :) Exasperating because you didn't get the letter til the weekend, I'd wanting to knock the hospital door down!

OP posts:
porcito · 27/04/2014 16:48

Yes, surely they'd have called if there was something serious...probably like you said, it's your iron levels and they want you to get some medicine, or maybe because of your pre eclampsia last time they want to double check. I wish sometimes surgeries thought about the wording of their letters! I got a call after a pap smear saying I had to call the nurse back URGENTLY, while I was travelling: everything was fine.

Sorry you got this on the weekend, terrible timing! Try to stay away from google...it's the devil!
