Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm glad Lara is okay pidgy. Your DH is a full on cuntpuffin for lying about it. I'm Angry on your behalf.

I too have a Velcro baby who has never spent a night in her crib at 5 weeks, and won't be put down in the daytime either. I use a sling to feed the cats and wash up first thing, and then I'm trapped on the sofa all day and in bed with her all night. I'm knackered.

Persephone has caught a cold from her dad. It isn't too bad, but she's very snuffly and has been properly sick for the first time. She's also sleeping loads. Advice online is to see the GP at the first sign if a cold at this age, but is that a bit hysterical? I've made an appointment for this afternoon, but she's probably fine. Should I go, or should I let someone else have it? Or should I go and ask about her horrible night wind problem (HV thinks silent reflux)?

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 08:42

pidgy, I know so many people who have done similar. That said, I'd be furious with DH if he dropped Meredith, despite the fact that it could just as easily happen to me.
God, I'm still harbouring a grudge against MIL for holding M in the delivery room without having her wrapped up at all (M was still naked and wrapped in a towel, but MIL had the towel wide open).
Your H is a massive wanker for lying about it, though. How childish. I'm glad Lara's ok.

Velcro baby here too. I made a sausagemeat and stuffing plait yesterday with her in the Moby from start to finish. It wasn't easy, especially rolling out pastry! Then I hoovered, which kept her quiet.
The white noise machine arrived yesterday and we finally moved the crib right next to the bed with the side down, as it's meant to be (it's a Troll). We hadn't bothered before because she was never in it! Shockingly, she slept in it all night! Woke for feeds every 2 hours as always, but went back in after. It was amazing!

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 08:45

Hmmm, book. Tricky one. I probably wouldn't go to gp for a cold unless it was affecting her feeding/breathing. But it might be worth keeping the appointment and making it about possible reflux. You could always mention the cold in passing.

BookTart · 18/02/2014 09:16

Hats off to you for cooking with Meredith in a sling toby! I briefly considered doing this but then decided not to, because I am a lazy bitch. My excuse was something about chopping onions being bad near the baby :)
I'll keep the appointment and ask about reflux then I think. I've tried infacol, which makes her vom, and both gripe water and dentinox have caused near-choking as she refuses to swallow them. HV comes tomorrow, so I'll be able to say that I've tried at least. She is in such discomfort the whole time, noisy little git poor little thing.

fryingpantoface · 18/02/2014 09:25

pidgy it would be the lying which did it for me.

book Henry has a cold too, now it's a bad cough, but I've been told not to take him to the dr unless he's losing weight.

it's our 6 week check next week (actually he will be almost 7 weeks) so I'll ask then if he doesn't seem to be getting better.

I've put ds1 down for a nap, about an hour ago. He was wailing on the landing (not actually crying, just making the "I'm not tired, you're so cruel" wail) he's still awake, just playing on the landing. I figure while he's quiet I'll leave him be.

i need to shower and do my hair before i go out, but it's finding the opportunity. I didn't really get to eat yesterday because of dealing with the two of them. Dh got home late and by the time he got home, we sorted out the kids, put ds1 to bed it was after 8. So i was more tired then hungry so couldn't eat.

it's hard to adjust to trying to sort out two young children's needs

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 10:11

Shit, book! I am stupid enough to use frozen onions. I shall stop forthwith and use your excuse :o

There was an interesting thing just now on Woman's Hour about the NCT's new tongue tie campaign.

MrsVDB · 18/02/2014 10:20

pidgy I agree it's the lieing that would make me angry. Glad she's ok

BookTart · 18/02/2014 10:44

Yeah, part of the thing that is bothering DH, DM & DMil about DD's tongue tie diagnosis is that it seems to be a bit of a 'thing' with HCPs at the moment. The hospital can only offer an appointment in mid- March (unless I go to Eastbourne!) because they are seeing so many new cases now.

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 11:00

Apparently it only affects 3% of babies. Surely the fact that it seems to be a 'thing' shows that awareness is growing? Also, no HCP is going to diagnose a condition which requires surgery if it doesn't actually exist, 'suddenly common' or not.

BookTart · 18/02/2014 11:06

My point exactly - they aren't going to do it for fun, and if it needs doing then it will benefit all of us (but especially DD). I've taken the appointment and asked DH to come along so that he can see how the decision is reached and can ask questions if he wants to. He's a twat about medical things though, he hadn't been registered with a GP since leaving home until we moved here two years ago.

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 11:08

God, it must be a nightmare. I'd have to overrule him if it were me in agony every feed.

Pidgy · 18/02/2014 11:14

Know what you mean about the lying. I'm going to message him now and ask him would he have ever told me if I hadn't re- asked.
I watched her like a hawk as soon as I knew and couldn't have done that without knowing. Grrr. Idiot.

Sounds like nights are getting a bit better for some of us which is good. All my sleepless nights are forgiven...Lara smiled at me today. Heart melting.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 18/02/2014 11:21

pidgy stupid DH, he obviously panicked (as you would), but lying was super dumb. Eejit. Hope Lara is okay.

book I'd be overruling too. Unless he wants to get a fake boob and feed her? Sorry you are so tired, must be hell.

I have a snuffly misery of a baby. She can't feed well with her blocked nose, sniffles herself awake, and now no poo in three and a half days (it's coming, isn't it? Like a tidal wave...). Going to take her out in hopes a change of scene might cheer us both up.

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 11:22

pidgy, in the gentlest possible way, you might have to try to let it go. By all means tell him one last time that you're upset that he lied about it, but then just try to put it behind you.
It won't be the last time either if you make a bad call, and the newborn exhaustion can make us all drive each other crazy and make us snappy when we what we need the most is to be a team.

I get it. This morning I had a disproportionately large go at DH because he never makes the water for cleaning DD's bum warm. It's stone cold and he insists that it's warm. The twat.
And that's nothing like how furious I'd be if he dropped her!

But this will fester and become worse if you don't make a superhuman effort to move on from it.

enormouse · 18/02/2014 12:02

pidgy the poor thing, but she's ok now, that's the main thing. At the moment, I have a personal dislike for DP not holding Cal properly and let his poor head flop about unsupported. But he is Cals father and he is getting the hang of it. even if it's a bit too slow for my liking

frying hugs and sympathy. Yesterday I was so zombied out I couldn't be bothered to make dinner so the whole family ended up with dps student special for the 3rd day in a row - micro chips and chicken dippers with baked beans. According to dp it's 'cooking' and comparable to what I do. no it fecking isn't
Luckily, my cough is shifting so I should be back doing stuff soon. It's making my head hurt to say put the laundry on 5 times a day.

Oh and I think it was felix on a cheat food thread, but I have just bought frozen pre chopped onions from asda. So thanks. Who knew such a thing existed? Smile.

Am annoyed at asda atm as they seem to be out of clementines, parsnips, garlic and passata and size 5plus nappies. Need to find my phone, wherever DS1 has hidden it, and ask DMil if she'll pick those up for me.

BookTart · 18/02/2014 12:06

I was just going to post the same as toby pidgy. He probably feels terrible about dropping her and you probably won't achieve anything by arguing about it any more. The lying is shitty of him though, I know I'd find it hard to let go.

I did consider getting the tongue tie division done without telling DH (he'd never know), but that would be bad as she's his daughter too. He's so keen on me breastfeeding that my closeness to packing it all in and nipping to the shop for some formula will probably persuade him it needs doing. It could be causing her wind issues as well, so it isn't just my ruined nips I'm thinking about! it is mainly the ruined nips

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 12:37

Glad you've got something in your favour re getting it done, book.

Honestly, enormouse, frozen onions are the shit. Ditto frozen garlic, chillies, ginger and spinach.

enormouse · 18/02/2014 13:08

toby my granny used to buy massive bags of whole onions, chop them up in her food processor and freeze them. Unfortunately, it made everything taste of onions but she beat asda et al to it.
Frozen chillis and garlic you say? Haven't seen those, have seen very lazy garlic and ginger though. Must get those next time i do a shop.

book when's your appointment?

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 13:13

Sainsbury's do frozen garlic in a bag, and chillies and ginger in little cubes. They're amazing.

BookTart · 18/02/2014 13:16

I grow chillies and freeze them whole in a little tub, then chop them frozen and bung them in stuff. Or I did, before velcro baby :)

10th March enormouse. She'll be 8-9 weeks by then. The woman next to me at breastfeeding drop in was also referred for tongue tie, and she got an appointment for Monday. Grrrr.

fryingpantoface · 18/02/2014 13:30

I use frozen onions, mushrooms, peppers, garlic, and pesto. So lazy.

tonight I'm making my go to food.

you cook rice and leave it for at least 30 mins. Then melt butter in a frying pan and scramble 2 eggs. Scramble them really well. Add whatever veg is lying around (i use the aforementioned frozen veg), whatever is going to die. Cook for 4-5 mins, add the rice and add some soy sauce. Add whatever cooked meat is around (if you want meat. Left over roast is good)

voila! Easy dinner. We eat that a lot. Usually brown rice

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 13:34

I always think that frozen mushrooms and peppers will be watery. Are they not? This could be a revelation.

Felix90 · 18/02/2014 13:34

Haha yes it was me on the cheat thread! Toby I've just discovered frozen spinach too! I always used to buy it fresh then end up chucking it away. I second frozen chilli cubes too. Haven't tried the garlic yet, and I usually buy puréed ginger in a jar. Frozen chopped onions are a revelation though Grin

Pidgy how awful Sad I'm terrified of the same happening with us. Mistakes easily happen but I'd be very pissed off if DP lied about it. Hopefully he can make it up to you, and hopefully he's learnt his lesson!

Sylvie cried non stop from around 6 until 11 last night, and has done the same from this morning until now. I've been giving her the dentinox drops in her bottle but nothing seems to be helping. DP's Aunty is a pharmacist abd recommended Colief but DP just went to the pharmacy on his lunch break and they wouldn't sell him it as it's for lactose intolerant babies apparently Hmm going to call the doctors tomorrow morning and see if I can get an appointment.

Oh and she projectile vommed all over the lovely lambskin liner last night!

Felix90 · 18/02/2014 13:36

I use frozen peppers and mushrooms too as a back up for when we run out of fresh. They are good in things like stir fry and pasta! Sometimes can be a bit watery but it usually just fries off so it's ok.

TobyLerone · 18/02/2014 13:40

I put frozen spinach in everything. Shepherds pie, curry, bolognese, pasta bakes etc. It even went in last night's sausage plait. Nobody has yet complained!

Poor Sylvie :(
