Inglorious I echo the others! I know it is impossible not to worry but it's great they are taking it seriously and checking you out so fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about.

pretty 4D scan sounds lovely Smile

LightTripper · 20/01/2014 11:02

Hi all, just been for my 26 week appointment. Midwife seems happy with everything (even my BP, which is 119/64 - which seems to me to be both nearly high on the top number and nearly low on the bottom number ... but what do I know - if MW is happy I will be happy Smile)

Saw my SIL yesterday who brought us a Moses Basket. And went to see my friend on Saturday who has offered us loads of stuff including a cot and chest of drawers, car seat and she has other bits and bobs she seems quite keen to get rid of too... so feeling like we have a lot of things coming together, in theory at least (of course painting hasn't started and house still a tip with things in boxes all over the place as I try to empty furniture so we can move it ... but we'll ignore that for now).

SIL also reminded me that her first was born at 28 weeks (i.e. only 10 days away!!!) Scary thought... but also nice as her daughter is now 8 years old, happy and healthy and bright and it's nice to think that even if she was born that soon my LO could still be alright in the end!

Right, must get back to work... so much to doooo!!!!

Been to see my midwife today too. Seems I have the opposite problem to inglorious and vikki, and my bump isnt big enough! Sad
Measures 27 weeks and I'm 29.
Got to go back in 2 weeks to see if growth has improved and if not being referred to the consultant for scan.
Trying very hard to take my own advice and not worry but can't help wondering if my knackered old body has grown a slightly useless placenta and its not feeding my baby well enough. Confused

Sorry to hear everybody is getting worrying measurements. From everything I've read measuring is a very inexact science anyway, so they only use it to decide whether to do further checks, and not as a problem in itself. If you think about how they measure it, there must be at least a couple of cm variation just depending on your shape (of your pelvic structure, and how much your bump is pushed out, etc.) Hope you get reassuring news soon!

Vikkijayne2507 · 20/01/2014 13:55

patsy I think everyone worries one way or another I know of women who have had a second check on growth and suddenly baby is much bigger than it was some babies just take their sweet time in growth but either way its good they are keeping an eye.

I had my first ante-natal class today with oh lying down next to me translating he loved it he got to join in with the breathing and almost fell asleep during the relaxing time ahh dear. But it was useful as the nurse running it said he has to keep me calm she said she could see as soon as he came over to me I noticbly relaxed and got into the swing of the class. having the langauge barrier she said its important I feel as calm as possible and that he helps me with all the excercises and to do them at home as much as I can so when the time comes we both will feel confident and labour should be easier than me pancing i dont understand what they are saying or what they want me to do.

Cannotbelieveit · 20/01/2014 19:52

Hi everyone sorry to hear of any worrying measurements I'm sure it'll all sort itself out though

I'm just counting down my shifts now, only 10 left!! Grin

mamapants · 20/01/2014 20:30

light tripper your blood pressure sounds completely normal to me. Unlike mine ha ha which is only 90 over 48. Which at least explains my dizzy spells and tiredeness.

The whole measuring thing is bizarre really. I measured on higher side of the graph through my last pregnancy but my DS was only 6'5. And my dsis measured exactly on the middle line through her pregnancies and her babies were all well over 9pounds.

LightTripper · 20/01/2014 22:20

Wow mamapants, that doesn't sound fun!! At least you don't have to worry about preeclampsia I guess (always looking for the silver lining Grin)

MrsMyMarbles · 21/01/2014 12:53

Hi ladies – can I join you please? I am 30 weeks, I think, I lose track, but am due 1 April, with what will be my DC#3. I wasn’t sure whether to go for this thread, or the March thread, as it is so early in the month! I have not come onto the thread before now because I have had three miscarriages between DC#2 and this pregnancy, and have not felt confident. But as this baby is now giving me some belting kicks and making me nauseous with some of its acrobatic movements, I am feeling more certain of myself.

I had an emergency caesarean in 2006, and a beautiful home VBAC in a pool with an Independent Midwife in 2009. Sadly, an Independent Midwife is not an option this time, mainy because of the EU’s stupid directive, but even if there were IMs to employ, this time we don’t have the money, and so we are in the hands of the NHS for our planned homebirth. I really want a doula, but my DH is sceptical. Is there anyone in a similar position to me, for any of that, who wants to trade stories/give advice?

I know I should probably read back through the last 10 pages to ‘meet’ you all, but I really do need to go get some work done!

I took the step, and have made an ‘impending baby’ announcement (granted it is anonymous – still haven’t told many people – but people are starting to ask now!) and it feels a little more real now.

Next step, unpack, sort and wash all the baby clothes and paraphernalia DH has grudgingly got down from the loft for me!

Trinpy · 21/01/2014 17:36

Hi Mrs. Congratulations on the pregnancy, I'm really pleased for you that everything is going well so far with this one. There are several of us on here due at the very beginning of April so you'll fit right in Smile . Do you know what you're having or are you leaving it as a surprise? I'm planing to have a homebirth too, though I need to research it properly to find out what I need to have ready at home for it!

Sorry to hear some of you are having worries about bump size atm. I hope the scans are able to give some reassurance.

I'm stopping work tomorrow and will be signed off for 2 weeks from Friday with spd. I feel rubbish about it and there have already been a few comments from colleagues (nothing nasty just 'that's a bit early to stop work isn't it?' type things) which have made me feel worse. I feel so miserable every day I'm there now, I can't wait to leave Smile .

Cannotbelieveit · 21/01/2014 19:47

Welcome Mrs, glad everything is going well for you!!

LightTripper · 21/01/2014 20:37

Welcome to the thread Mrs!!! I suspect we repeat ourselves quite a lot (well, I know I do) so I'm sure you'll pick up the gist in no time Smile

Glad you are getting signed off Trinpy. When it's making you that miserable it's just not worth it.

I just had a little work-cry too, for solidarity (/because I felt like it). Unfortunately this is not that uncommon an occurence, and has nothing to do with any legitimate medical complaint, so I just feel a bit pathetic. Sad Never mind. Tomorrow is a new day, with no mistakes in it (yet).

Trinpy · 21/01/2014 20:44

Oh no, poor you Light Sad .

smilesallround247 · 21/01/2014 21:22

wendle70 · 22/01/2014 21:51

Hi smiles and mrs!
I have definitely felt the anxiety levels creeping up! I MUST STOP GOOGLING! Today I saw the midwife and bump is also a little big at 26 weeks+5 (measuring 28) but she wasn't concerned (said only if was about 6 cm over would they look into it) plus I read a 2 cm variation is perfectly normal. As others have said, it can be caused by where the placenta is and all sort of things...or a big baby! Better to be a big un than too little a one in my book but in any event I got the jist from my v experienced midwife that it is an inexact science and not to worry.
I also had a day of trying to convince the hospital to give me a C section today. I think they will give me one - phew.

Can't wait for nursery stuff to arrive. Like light's SIL says, I guess we need to be prepared...
Anyone else getting a maternity nurse in? Have been speaking to them. Looks like have a choice of a strict Nanny McPhee type who will be amazing at getting the baby into a routine and sleeping all night but potentially a bit too strict or a less experienced more relaxed pair of hands who prob won't get the routine working but will be helpful for a bit..
p s did you all see the article on getting babies to sleep on MN today and what we should expect at 3 months, 6 months etc. Useful!

wendle70 · 22/01/2014 21:53

pps I too am definitely suffering prego brain and have now misplaced my hospital notes. Marvellous. In fact sometimes I take my vitamin in the morning. Do one other thing and then come back to the shelf and think..did I take my vitamin today? Madness!

LightTripper · 23/01/2014 08:40

Thanks for the virtual biscuits/support!

Feeling much better now. Just have the occasional wobble: this year seems so intimidating. I have been basically pretty in control of my life for so long now, but this year brings so many unknowns! Very very exciting, but also a little bit scary sometimes.

One good thing about work avalanche is it leaves me no time to drive myself crazy Googling pregnancy facts, which knowing me is definitely a good thing! Nothing so dangerous as spare time and Google... Shock

Welcome to all the new peeps!

LT xx

Welcome smiles.

That mn article sounds interesting wendle, I really don't know a lot about babies so I need to get as much advice of what to expect as possible!

My mw told me at my last appointment that bumps often measure a little above the line at the first measurement and then settle down to 'average' after that. Don't know if that's helpful to anyone getting anxious about measuring a little big.

My news is that I became an aunty yesterday!!!! My brother and sil had a baby girl yesterday. I've seen a few photos and she's so tiny and cute Envy . Mum and baby are both fine and going home later today.

ChurrosConChocolate · 23/01/2014 09:39

Welcome Mrs and smiles and congrats on your pregnancies.

Trinpy congrats on becoming an aunty!! When will you get to have real life cuddles with your new niece? Well done on finishing work, there is no point battling on if in pain, don't worry what others think. What are you going to do with all your maternity leave though?

Sorry to hear that some people are getting worrying measurements, but as others have said it is a very rough guide and just a flag to keep an eye on things so try not to worry too much while waiting to get checked out.

And move away from Google wendle Grin. Glad you have convinced them on the C-section front, it is nice to get these things sorted so you can prepare properly. Would love a maternity nurse but couldn't afford one! Would love a doula for the birth and after too but can't justify the cost...

I'm doing my best not to worry! I'm filling myself with positivity otherwise I'm going to really panic after having a tough time emotionally and physically last time. Have read from cover to cover a hypnobirthing book, Ina May's guide to childbirth (recommended!) and have just started on Active Birth by Janet Balankas (sp?). Every night I'm burning relaxing oils, listening to relaxing music and either my husband reads me hypnobirthing relaxations or I listen to the mp3 of them. Also reading positive stories of people having good births after difficult first births, have birth affirmations written on the blackboard in the kitchen and a pic of a baby in optimal position pinned to my noticeboard. Started an antenatal birthing class last night too (gentle stretching, breathing and active birth stuff). Am I obsessed with positive thinking!!??? Grin

Also heard from the Birth Centre yesterday that they will accept me!! SOOO happy about this! Just have to clear it with my consultant when I see her on Friday but I feel like a huge weight is coming off my shoulders. Smile

Vikkijayne2507 · 23/01/2014 09:57

that's good news churros hope it all goes smoothly. I was getting a bit worried about baby's movement but I did feel 10 movements in an hour and heard heartbeat on doppler I think he's moved into a funny position I also have an anterior placenta so that may explain why if he's moved. I have a scan Friday week so hopefully we ve reassured there.
29+ 1 weeks

Trinpy · 23/01/2014 14:46

Wow churros sounds like you're really well prepared for the birth already. I hope it pays off and you have a much better experience this time round. I've heard very good things about active birthing and hypnobirthing - definitely seems the way to go for a more relaxed birth.

Db and sil live 3hrs away so I think we will give them a few weeks to settle in to being new parents and then go over. After buying so much boys stuff for my own baby I'm quite excited at the prospect of buying lots of little dresses and leggings!

And I'm in my final year of an open university degree so I've got a few essays to write and my revision notes to get started on before the baby does, plenty to keep me occupied during mat leave. It's actually quite a relief having all this time to focus on it now so I don't have to worry about studying with a newborn.
