Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh frying fx and good luck.

Well my evening was disappointing. Was meant to be viewing labour ward tonight. Was a big rush as we ended up leaving late so I had to run across the car park wearing stupid heeled boots but got there in time, only to find out the ward was full so couldn't do the full tour anyway. Sad Saw the postnatal ward at least which was something. All private rooms, Dh can stay overnight as well which is a bonus Smile So will have to go back Wednesday and hopefully see the delivery suite. Midwife said there was very little difference between mlu and delivery suite though which is promising. Now having a well earned sit down as I knackered myself earlier but I now have a clean and tidy living room finally Smile One room down a few still to go!!

Frizz1986 · 16/12/2013 20:37

Ok just trying to catch up after a busy day. Sorry if i forget people!

I am very much the tidy one of the two of my partnership. I am still a bit of a clutter whore but dh doesnt do tidying so well. We still have our shower door lying in the hallway as he hasnt taken it to the tip (its been there about 5 weeks) and our garden still has loads opf bags of stuff that shouldve been taken to the tip at the end of summer!

mrsr sorry about the growth concerns but glad things have picked up and at keast you know when bubs will arrive.

Welcome back ami Def get that bag packed or the bag monitors might start watching you Smile

I am a no go on the waxing. Had a bit of a tidy last week but thats it for me. Natural all the way. No way dh is going near it (nice and swollen as it is) with a razor. Ouch!!
I have managed to do my legs in the bath. Floaty legs helps a lot!

Haha curly i am pretty sure they have seen some amusing things down there before. Sending lots of dilating thoughts your way.

I have had a few really sharp punching pains in the fanjo today. Not sure if thats baby moving down. Will i def feel it when baby drops and engages? My bump is already very low and mw said baby is very low but hasnt said engaged yet as they thought it might be breech as they couldnt feel much head! Not got mw now until dec 27th! (38 weeks)
Also had some tight pains in the centre of the bump and then some almighty wriggles from bubs. Hope it wasnt turning or anything as it was in such a perfect position.

quack and humpty agree about rude people in public. I have done everything online as people dont seem to care about the huge bump!

frying this could be it!! Got my fx crossed for you

I got dh a book (he chose it) right at the start but i dont think he has read much if any. He enjoys reading but he has lots of fantasy books that he loves to read so unlikely he will bother with the baby one that has been on the bedside table for ages.

Well hobbit yesterday was ace and i got a nursing bra just to start me off. Was rather achey in the car as we only have a 3 door clio and with the baby seat now in place the front seat is so far forward and really upright just so it fits. Not such fun with this bloody bump.
Have been a bit of an idiot tonight. Dh has gone out gaming and i have decided in his absence to make 2 lasagnes for the freezer, a beef stew (currently in the oven), meatballs (rolled and in the freezer so they freeze individually and i can just put them all in a big bag and just take out however many we need) and a tomato sauce to freeze separateky for the meatballs. I would have also made 2 cottage pies but we need more potatoes! Dh is gonna kill me when he gets home as i should be relaxing after being at work.
Only 2 days left until mat leave woop woop.

Cant remember anything else so hugs and Cake and Brew all round in case.

Omg tom kerridge on bbc 2 right now is making me so peckish!!

TobyLerone · 16/12/2013 20:39

Bloody hell, this thread moves fast when I've not been around for a few days!

frying, that sounds very exciting! Fingers crossed!

curly, hope they can break your waters tomorrow. Once they did that for my 2nd induction it was easy peasy! 2 hours from 4cm to birth, and no pain relief or stitches.

I've read everything, I promise, but it's escaped my brain already. And I'm on my phone instead of my laptop because I'm hiding upstairs while DH has a Skype interview downstairs.

Re trimming -- that's DH's job. Probably at the weekend. My legs are terrible, but I can't shave them because one of them is bandaged from thigh to ankle :(
I hope it heals before the baby's born, or the midwives will be horrified by the state of them!

I've spent the day stripping wallpaper and I'm knackered! I'm so annoyed we basically lost the whole weekend for working on the decorating because of me having a stupid d&v bug. So now we're pushed for time to get it all done this week, and because of the stupid burn I'm having appointments with the nurse every other day to change my dressings. And midwife on Thurs. It's so annoying to have to stop in the middle of something and have to go out.

Moan moan moan!

TobyLerone · 16/12/2013 20:45

Ooooh, nature, I am Envy of your postnatal ward. Ot sounds lovely!

Sorry you've got The Rage, sultana. I've permanently got it!

I've no idea what it feels like when the baby engages, frizz. Neither of mine ever did :(

flyawayblue · 16/12/2013 20:45

Wow frying good luck!

curly hope the induction works.

I'm another on the hairy side, will be trying trimming at some point but all a lot of effort and worried I'll end up with one side trimmed and one side longer... Good look Smile

On the count down to maternity and Christmas, only have one person left to buy for so getting there. Just need to collect loads of parcels at the weekend.

Mythreeknights · 16/12/2013 20:57

Just wanted to wish frying and curly all the best of luck over the next 24-48 hours!!!

Sultanajo · 16/12/2013 21:12

Toby what a shockingly shite few days you have had! Glad the v and d has buggered off! Is your leg starting to heal?

fryingpantoface · 16/12/2013 21:17

Thanks all!

well, they were getting stronger, i had to lean over the pushchair whole dh rubbed my back. Carried on walking around, still going well, walked the very short walk home and had nothing since.

still, it could start again. I think the baby is just screwing with me.

I've had some real snot like discharge since being home, but i can't remember if that's normal with thrush.

I'll keep you posted.

TobyLerone · 16/12/2013 21:26

It has been a bit of an unlucky few days, sultana!

My leg is really bloody sore. There are 2 big open blisters & a few not gone yet. Gross, huh?!
I went to the nurse today and she dressed it again, and I've to go back on Weds. But it's super sore. And I'm supposed to stay off it as much as possible, so the nurse bollocked me for decorating! Gotta be done, though.

Felix90 · 16/12/2013 21:28

Frying its progress! Hopefully they will restart again soon.

Toby I hope your leg heals up soon, it sounds awful Hmm take it easy with the wallpapering!!

Frizz can you come round and cook me some freezer meals too? Grin I've been meaning to do it for ages and now I reckon I've left it too late. OH said his Mum was going to buy us some posh easy meals for the freezer so that will do for me.

Nature your labour ward/post natal ward sounds amazing. I'm so jealous!

My bednest is arriving tomorrow and I'm so excited. It means me and OH will have to swap our sides of the bed though which will be weird getting used to. Also re hairiness - I have shaved my downstairs without looking occasionally over the past few months and it turned out ok. Going to have to tidy up and shave my legs tomorrow night ready for my sweep on Wednesday!

Frizz1986 · 16/12/2013 21:38

Ouch toby i suppose these things do take rather a long time to heal. Hope it gets a move on before baby makes an appearance.

frying ooooooo how exciting. Hope things start up again and continue in a more regular fashion.

felix i don't know what happened. I was going to do it all on Friday once on mat leave but for some reason had this urge to get it done. Just hope i haven't over exerted myself as don't want to go into labour just yet.
Everything feels a bit more dribbly (tmi) today. Need to last about a week more at least.

Felix90 · 16/12/2013 21:41

Frizz at least if you do go in to labour you'll be well fed for the next few weeks Grin

AnotherStitchInTime · 16/12/2013 21:50

Ooh frying hopefully all these contractions are busy effacing your cervix so that when they do kick off properly it all happens quickly.

Sultanajo · 16/12/2013 21:53

frying is the snot like discharge your plug perhaps or have you already lost it? My mate described her plug as a giant bogie! Nice!!!

Toby ouchie! Incredible the damage a hot drink can do.... Sounds mega sore and very frustrating to have while heavily preggers!

fryingpantoface · 16/12/2013 22:03

I've lost/ been loosing the plug for a while. Nothing for the past couple of days tho. It wasn't as much tho as it is now.

dh thinks it's incredible that we talk so much about this kinda thing publicly. I guess its because we are all in similar places with it

Felix90 · 16/12/2013 22:07

I'd probably go nuts if I didn't have somewhere to vent/ask ridiculous questions about gross pregnancy things!

enjoyingscience · 16/12/2013 23:12

Ouch Toby, your poor leg :(

Hope things kick off overnight frying, and I guess every contraction now is one fewer when things really get going (I have no idea if this is true, but it would be nice!)

Removal men coming at half 8 and this place is a bloody tip. They'll just have to put up with it, I guess. DS had his school place confirmed at the new house, which is ace. I hope his new friends are as lovely as the ones he has at his old school, I think he'll really miss them :(

Frizz1986 · 16/12/2013 23:41

Mini rant alert......

Dh has just arrived home. He normally goes out on a tues and sometimes a monday to play with friends. I have told him that it would be nice to hear from him as i don't speak to him in the day, then we have a quick chat over tea and then he goes out so a text or 2 would be nice. I especially like to know what time he'll be home so i don't worry.
Anyway i text him earlier and nothing for about an hour. Then text at 10 asking when he would be back. Nothing....so text at 10:45 saying me and the dog were waiting up for him to come home so he said he would be leaving shortly. He has just got back now. Feeling pissed!! He doesn't get why i am upset but i am 8 months pregnant, home alone and just want to spend some time with him.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/12/2013 23:51

toby you poor love - burns, D&V, and having to get things done is a bad combination. Can you schedule something relaxing in amongst it all to cheer yourself up?

frying oooooooooooh!!!! Could be you next!
Oh, and my DH loves that we talk about anything and everything, and asks after you all - particularly space - every so often. Which is sweet.

Advice: I had originally thought I would want my mum with me in labour. Since then, I've decided I'd prefer just DH, and for no visitors to come, or at least not for more than an hour or two, for at least a week or two after birth.
DM brought up her being there while I'm giving birth on the phone tonight, and I wussed out laughed and changed the topic. I know I have to tell her, and tell her upfront, asap. Any advice on how best to broach the subject - has anyone had a similar conversation? DM is prone to taking things a leetle bit personally, and I also don't want to upset her, but I do need to be clear what we've decided.
Ta, ladies.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/12/2013 23:53

frizz I am WITH YOU on that - DH stayed up late at the wedding this weekend (we were in the hotel where the reception was) and I did have a bit of a mardy face on about it - he's much more relaxed fucking casual about me potentially going into labour and needing him around than I am Grin

TarkaTheOtter · 17/12/2013 01:55

another hopefully curly is having a baby so can't answer you question about induction but it is the same at my hospital. I don't think they can use syntocin unless your waters are broken so if prostin/propess doesn't get your labour started they will try to artificially break the waters. This involves them sticking a hook into the membranes and they need to get two fingers and the hook into the cervix to do it. So if after the propess you are not dilated at all, they can't break your waters and you can't have the syntocin drip so it is straight to csection.

With dd, propess pessary didn't start my labour but it did get my cervix dilated enough to break my waters so I could have the drip. The woman in the bed opposite me didn't have any reaction to it so she had a csection the next day.

Maybe it's different if the induction is just due to being overdue though.

TobyLerone · 17/12/2013 06:45

Humpty, I'm sorry you had a crap time at the wedding :(
No time to book anything relaxing this week -- it took us a whole day yesterday just to strip the hall/stairs/landing of wallpaper and to wash the walls down. Today we have to masking tape everything off and I have to fill cracks/holes while DH starts glossing (he's not the DIY type!). Hopefully we'll have time then to start stripping paper in our room. But DH is out tonight so he'll have to stop early. Things are conspiring against us!

Re your mum: remember that it's your decision and you're not wrong for making it, even if she tries to make you feel like you are.
I kind of know the feeling. I have a big, close family. When I had my first 2, they were around all the time. We've decided this time that we want a few days to ourselves after the baby's born. So we've said that everyone can come and see the baby while I'm in hospital (as I'm likely to be in at least overnight, due to PPH risk), but then when we get home we want no visitors for a few days.
I can imagine they're talking behind my back about how precious I'm being, but nobody's said anything to me!

I'm having my mum with me in labour. She's seen all of her grandchildren born (except the one which was EMCS, but she was still there), and she'd definitely be upset if I said no, but she'd get over it. It's actually DH who wants her there more than me!

Re induction: I seem to remember having the drip with DS before my waters were broken, but I'm not certain. That was 14 years ago, though. I had my waters broken with DD but didn't need the drip.

Frizz, they don't get it! DH is going out all day on Saturday. He never goes out, so I don't mind in the least, plus I'll only be 37+6, so the chances of me going into labour are infinitesimal. But he's meeting his mate at 12 at a train station in Essex, so will need to leave a couple of hours early to allow for changing trains and how busy central London will be.
He usually has a driving lesson for 2 hours on a Saturday, so I reminded him to cancel it. He said "It's ok. I'll just book it for 7.30am and get him to drop me straight at the station."
So he'd be out from 7.30am - god knows when in the evening. I suggested that this might not be the best idea he's ever had. Eejit.

TobyLerone · 17/12/2013 06:46

How are things this morning, frying/curly?

MrsVDB · 17/12/2013 07:26

frizz I had the same problem on Friday night. Dh was out with work again and on my way home I text him saying I didn't feel very well. Nothing. Got home text again saying I still didn't feel well and my tummy hurt. Nothing. Later in the evening tried calling loads and texting as really wanted him to come home as tummy hurt and also all day antenatal class on Saturday. Got in at 2.30am. He just didn't understand that I was upset that I couldn't get hold of him. I said I could have fallen down the stairs or been in labour or anything but he said he needed to 'destress' . We've had a chat and hopefully he understands a bit more now and I put on fb how I couldn't get hold of him and it was 2am so he's embarrassed about that ha ha

extracrunchy · 17/12/2013 07:28

Toby how much do you want to bet that'll be the day you go into labour? Grin
