Have you thought of a couple of drops of caster oil in orange juice Pink??? I know of 2 mums who did and then went into labour the same day or after. A good reflexologist can set you off too, I may make an appt 1st wk Aug !!

trix1 · 26/07/2006 10:52

how soon and safe would it be to put the castor oil in the orange juice? Is it safe, ive heard mothers used to drink whole bottles of it years ago to start labour.

melsy · 26/07/2006 11:33

Im not sure of its safety really , should have said. Some places wont sell it to preggy ladies. YUERCH to whole bottles being downed though.

melsy · 26/07/2006 11:37

Personally wouldnt do it till nearing 39th week , but Im in no way an expert at all. I wonder if anyone on mn has used it?

Im in 2 minds you see about bringing things on, part of me feels it should all take natures course. The other part says oh damn this cant bare it anymore. Always a dichotomy me , so may be no one should listen to me. .

eenywifemum · 26/07/2006 12:09

hello ladies! how is everyone today? I hope well.

Melsy and Dreamy - hon I totally undrestand this heat can really get to you. I have been nearly brought to tears over it when I've not been able to cool down. It's awful.

Booby - why do you have a house full of kids today? Good luck to your friend!

I want to try the castor oil - later on - where can you get it? I wonder how Pink is!

I got the Sept issue of Pregnancy & birth today so that should be some good reading. I have a headache and am hot so fear this may be yet another day when I dont get any housework done. We have 3 of our neices coming to stay overnight with us on Sat so I really need to get a lot done before then but it might all have to be done tomorrow and Friday as I really dont feel good today, physically.

PinkTulips · 26/07/2006 12:38

well last week at 37 weeks the doctor said 'baby coming any time from now on would be ideal' so reckon theres no harm in 'encuraging' him, docs keep hinting that he's fairly big an i'm not sure of my dates so convinced he's due now anyway.

has Snow had her baby when we haven't heard from her i wonder?

dreamy and melsy, so sorry your dying, its coled down a bit here... well the suns gone and it's raining but it's still really humid but nothing compared to what you guys are suffering.

melsy, are there any pools, beches, lakes, etc you could bring dd to? the water is a huge help and getting good and wet seems to keep me cool for a few hours afterwards too.

eenywifemum · 26/07/2006 12:43

was Snow imminent? I am struggling to remember now. I have a slight migraine today and my vision is blurry and mind too so am forgetting lots of obvious things.

Pink I am so excited for you!! I think you will have your baby very soon!

PinkTulips · 26/07/2006 13:02

yeah, her dates were wrong so she was really due the midle of july and she was measuring huge. she had her cervical stitch out last week so i bet shes had the baby.

arabica... hope your appoinment went well and if good luck for tomorrow

eenywifemum · 26/07/2006 13:04

ooh hope we hear from her soon!

last night at the antenatal class - one of the mums & dads who were in our last class were there alright - but not in class - they had just had their baby! so exciting! we didnt know them but its all happening for everyone isnt it!

PinkTulips · 26/07/2006 13:08

forgot to say sorry bout your headache eeny. i get migraines too but thankfully not when i'm preg. go lie down with a cold cloth on your head, it might help a bit.

trix1 · 26/07/2006 13:08

What is castor oil used for - apart from bringing on labour?

lucylousincl · 26/07/2006 13:09

Hello Mums! I am a pregnancy and post natal exercise specialist and I am moving into the area next month. I am looking to hold classes in Greenwich park for Mums with buggies. Will we do a little powerwalking and a whole body conditioning workout (nothing too hardcore!) and you will have the little one with you the whole time. I have been running successful classes in Highbury so hope they take off in Greenwich area too. They are good fun, a social event and you are getting fit. Call me on 07875 467 931 or Email- [email protected]

eenywifemum · 26/07/2006 13:13

thanks pink. I am going off the comp now for a while to do just that actually! I was on some meds that did wonders for my migraines but had to come off them when I got pregnant - looking forward to getting back on them again!

trix I dont know about the oil - Do you apply it to your skin or drink it or both? Would love info about it and where to get it. Anything to get Alex out a week or 2 early!

PinkTulips · 26/07/2006 13:18

it's traditionally used to 'make you regular', its a mild laxative and the reason its supposed to bring on labour is that the body naturally starts to expel the contents of the bowls during pre-labour and labour in preparation for all the pushing thats going to happen. encouraging the bowls to empy can bring on established labour but only if your already very close, it does work but only right at the end.

melsy · 26/07/2006 13:21

more on castor oil

Sounds a bit scary if you ask me, but Im prime for it; engaged 3/5 , contractions daily & some really strong but not labour, baby measuring well.

lunavix · 26/07/2006 14:18

afternoon everyone

I'm surviving the holidays.. just! Three more weeks and a bit to go...

Sweating tons, toes are constantly swollen.... -pout-

oh with the bowel thing, sorry if tmi, but the last thing I remember before going into labour with ds was a huge bout of diarrhoea, which I guess was my body getting ready for it. Thankful, as I didn't need to worry about it coming out during the birth!

PinkTulips · 26/07/2006 14:25

snap luna, was sooo relieved i wouldn't poo on the delivery table

olivo · 26/07/2006 14:34

hi everyone -sorry, havent had time to read all posts ,will do it in a bit! hope everyone is ok.

Melsy, just wanted to ask if your creatis car seat was a total bugger to put in? we tried ours at the weekend and it took several hours, no joke. we also have the loola pushchair which is gorgeous, but looks like the car seat will have to stay in the car now its in, and not go on the chassis. any tips would be gratefully received!!

melsy · 26/07/2006 14:40

uh oh Olivo , is it really a mare , poooooooooooooooo. It looked so easy when the manager of the shop put it in our car. Mind you they all take ages the 1st few times (as did our Jane matrix) , eventually it becomes 2nd nature. Ooooh soooooooo envious of your chassis for it lol. Although my matrix carry cot is nice looking & lovely for baby to lay in, I just think the creatis on the chassis looks really cute and futuristic. What colour is yours ? we went for the pearly grey one.

olivo · 26/07/2006 14:47

we got the sporting navy one. it does look funky . had a total ordeal getting it as nowhere in Jersey sells them so got it on internet but the company were... a little lax with their customer service, should i say! however, it arrived eventually and I'm really pleased with it. if this weather ever cools down, i might have a few practices!!

BigHotMama · 26/07/2006 15:19

Hi everyone! Hope you all ok!

I really thought something had starting during the night - couldnt seem to sleep but not due to heat though? It was as if I knew something was going to happen during the night and maybe kept me awake with excitement - few hours later I started experiencing mild-strong period type pains right down there in my lady garden and even though they werent too painful I was having them all night! Even got up to go to the toilet and emptied my bowels out 3 times so started thinking this is the start of something, but since waking up only had a few of these pains and now they have gone! BUGGER! Really got me excited thinking I was going somewhere. I think it must be baby's head engaging further down into pelvis. Have just been out for a swim, to a pub for lunch and even went to the Next sale for a bit to keep active but still no more niggles.

Good to hear news on baby being in good position Eeny, bet you were chuffed. Oh and my fave presie from my baby shower was a very colourful mobile bought me for the cot with all funny characters - vibrating bee on a pullstring, ladybird that squeeks and a bee that feels funny. But my flowers were really beautiful too, baby pink roses with white lillies and silver bits.

at castor oil! Sounds bit rank for me lol.

I am now 38+3 and havent had a braxton hicks yet - should I be having them or is it normal to not have any in 1st pregnancy?

Good luck tomorrow Arabica, bet your so excited! Cant wait to hear your news x x

Hopefully be hearing some news from Aussiemama and Snowboo soon!

sarahlou1uk · 26/07/2006 15:32

Afternoon everyone. Just come back from mw appointment where she couldn't tell which way up dd was lying. All this has resulted in me having to go for a further scan on Friday morning at 8.30am! Good job my parents live nearby and can come and look after ds - he's a nightmare to wake in the morning!! I'm hoping will show dd is head down and not up. If breech, have been told that they will have a go at turning her. However, if I don't want to be pushed and prodded, they will book me in for a cs!!!!! God, I hope she is head down - I've just spent £100 on a pool!!! If it shows she is head down, as soon as I get back I'm opening my raspberry leaf tea before she moves again! Little sod - typical girl. Never had this problem with ds. He was a good boy!

Anyway, spent the morning in the house with a few friends and their kids. In and out of paddling pool and eating lots and lots of sun lollies! Now I'm back in the house and because I've had to lock up and go out, it is now like a sauna in here. Every window and door is open and there is still no breeze. Seriously considering fetching the birthing pool downstairs and filling it.

Keep your fingers crossed for me that dd turns please!!!!!

sarahlou1uk · 26/07/2006 15:34

BHM - sorry you didn't start. I know it's frustrating because that's what happened with ds.

Might have to try castor oil if the tea doesn't work! However, not too keen on the after effects!

BigHotMama · 26/07/2006 15:41

Sarahlou my porky fingers and toes are all crossed for you hun! How many weeks have you got left till EDD? There could still be time if still not turned? I've got to admit I wouldnt want them prodding my belly, its probably the part I dread whenever I see MW - they can be bit rough and makes my stomach churn. Have you been bouncing on ya ball yet?

sarahlou1uk · 26/07/2006 16:12

Hi BHM. I've got 3 weeks to go! Have tried bouncing on the ball, sticking my bum in the air, directing cold water from the shower onto the top half of my bump and getting on all fours! Only thing left to try is packet of frozen peas on my bump!
