dizhin79 · 30/12/2013 23:54

we should all crack on and get a new thread for new years day!!

hi new mummy I'm aiming for home water birth I think too!

BionicEar · 31/12/2013 07:17

Ambles in and waves hello to oldies and newbies.

Best Present... um a lovely necklace from the dc (but don't tell dh as he will sulk as brought me a tablet which I'm struggling to get to grips with).

Worst Present... bottle of Christmas Punch - simply because I can't drink it at the mo. Wails!

Woke after fitful sleep at 3.30am and have never really fallen asleep since as baby decided to have a party then I got hungry and after that well didn't feel tired enough to sleep... thou may attempt to go back again shortly.

Tonight I doubt we'll be swinging off the lights to see in the New Year. More likely I'll be attempting to fall asleep!

Imeg · 31/12/2013 07:23

Mummyk, I'm due 3rd of March so a little ahead of you.
I have to go to the labour ward because the baby will have to see a paediatrician before we're allowed out, but wouldn't have gone for a home birth anyway because a) I've seen enough sheep and cows to know it's a messy business and b) we live a long way from the nearest hospital if there are any complications.

Does anyone have any tips for car seats for a small 2-door car (Renault Clio)?? I'm imagining trying to get a baby out of a rear-facing car seat in the back, which is where all the guidelines seem to say they should be, and suspect it may be a bit awkward...

Rockchick1984 · 31/12/2013 08:12

Imeg get a isofix if your car is able to, its so much easier to be able to strap baby into car seat then just plonk it onto the base rather than faffing around with straps etc! If you can't get isofix, then just climb into the back of the car and sit on the other seat while you strap baby in.

Welcome MummyK I'm due 1st March with baby2, a girl this time (already have a nearly 3 year old DS). Also hoping for home water birth, had drug-free hospital birth last time. Just got to hope my placenta has moved enough to facilitate this!!

Bionic same here re new year... Doubt I'll see midnight and will be up at 7 with DS anyway so think it'll be dominos pizza and a film - I'm sooooo rock and roll!!

Imeg · 31/12/2013 11:21

Thanks rockchick, I will dig out the manual and have a look.

My plans for tonight mainly revolve around a tub of ben and jerry's - ice cream is a good source of calcium, right?! I am meeting my parents tomorrow though which will be nice as they were away for christmas.

MummyBee87 · 31/12/2013 14:31

Hi everyone, not been on here for ages as it seemed to die off in favour of the Facebook group which I'm not on, glad yo see it's making a bit of a revival. Been at my 28week midwife appointment this morning, and she wondered what I thought about a home birth. Wasn't something I'd really thought about to be honest. What are your thoughts? It's my first child, so I'm after a bit if advice from anyone who has researched/prior experience etc? Hope you've all had a good christmas!! X

FitzgeraldProtagonist · 31/12/2013 15:02

Hello hope y'all had good Xmas/NY. Am due 8th March. Am so tired - following up iron levels. Wondered where everyone was at with getting stuff ready? Have done nothing. Not one thing. Am I being too cavalier?! Hoping for drugged up hospital birth Grin suspect will be impromptu drug free, home birth.

OwlinaTree · 31/12/2013 18:49

Hi all. Am off to see some friends this pm to see in new year. Am really tired tho, hope I make it to midnight!! Baby is wiggling about all the time now, which is very reassuring.

Found out today sil is 9 weeks pg, so that's v exciting news! Two grand babies for pil in 2014.

Got a few more maternity tops in the sale in new look. My mum was all 'what's the point, you've only got 9 weeks to go' but I'm so sick of wearing the same clothes all the time!

Mummyk1982 · 31/12/2013 19:39

I initially bolted at the idea of a homebirth but came round to it after talking through it with my hypnobirth teacher and a friend who is a midwife. Hubby seems generally happy with idea too. Things that made me think differently about it:
Hubby more comfortable in home environment and not alienated
Me likely to be more relaxed
I can have more control over what position I want to be in etc as it's my territory
Less risk of infection
Less risk of ppl interfering trying to speed things up (this less likely to get a baby in distress as this is what often causes distress)
Homebirth midwives have to be more experienced, you get one to one care, possibly even two to one care
Baby more likely to be relaxed so more likely to breastfeeding well

That's only a few things- there are a lot more reasons but they spring to mind. I only live 10-15 mins from hospital by ambulance, and I've been reassured that the midwives pick up early on if things aren't going right :-)

dizhin79 · 01/01/2014 02:56

i'm in the same position, 1st baby, but going for home birth because of reasons below. they really encourage it now

dizhin79 · 01/01/2014 08:25

happy new year Mn board, I thoroughly enjoyed my 1 glass of Prosecco last night!

I wonder if lots of hungover people have squiffy tummies and heads this morning and here I am enjoying the baby kicking and wiggling away this morning.

floatyflo · 01/01/2014 09:28

Going for a home birth here too! Planned on having one with my first, but last minute they thought he might be breech so went to hospital for scan and check-up and went into labour while there. He was the right way round and everything went pretty smoothly in the end. Fingers crossed better luck this time!

As to what we have bought and got ready, we already have a cot, moses basket and steriliser (although hoping bfeeding will be more successful this time round!), from when my ds was a baby so will be using them. Have bought a swinging rocking musical chair cradle type thing. Bargain on amazon down to £40 from £100. And girlies pram arrived xmas eve. Another online bargain, a silver cross surf I won on ebay for £150. Just need to stock up on baby clothes and bedding and have the essentials covered really. We are going to decorate her little room untill nearer the time she need it. Just done up my ds's first.

How is everybody coming along with names?? We have been through a million names and constantly changed my mind but think we have finally settled on Penelope. Anybody else care to share Grin

OwlinaTree · 01/01/2014 11:00

Happy New Year all!!

Mr Owl does feel ill, but yes I'm another smug non hungover one!!

Yogibear72 · 01/01/2014 11:15

Happy new year to everyone! Xmas Grin
lib Not sure why I've not joined before - time maybe? As I'm nearing the time (31w 2d) I feel the need for other mummies-to-be support as that B-day draws ever closer. This is my first baby.

Also in bed here drinking tea and feeling baby wiggle and feeling smug over those who have hangovers diz although I have a rotten cold so prob feel as bad!! Woke myself up snoring last night Grin Grin

Love the idea of home water birth - however if you had said this to me before I got pregnant I would have pooh-poohed such a notion. Having a bit more understanding about the birthing process now it makes for a great plan. Might be worth a practice run as I know one lady from my pregnancy yoga class who was hoping for this only for her labour to be too quick (4 hours) for them to have time to fill the pool that they'd bought.

It'll probably be a hospital birth for me as I have a couple of extra scans needed at 32/36 weeks.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 01/01/2014 11:30

imeg, we had a two door nissan micra when we had dd1 and it wasn't difficult with the carseat - we always kept it in the car and would just sit in the back and put her in.

yogi, practice runs of filling the birth pool are definitely worthwhile. My labour was slightly less than four hours last time and I was in the pool for about 2 1/2 hours. (Told DH to fill it about one hour in.)

floatyflo · 01/01/2014 15:49

How do I find the facebook page?

dizhin79 · 02/01/2014 13:51

There's an admin for the group u message but I think she may be on holiday?? When she's back I'll give her a nudge.

Has everyone gone back to work yet or still on hols? I'm not back in work until Monday but have got to do about an hours work tomo! ooh and I have my 32week appointment Monday afternoon so it'll not be a full days work either Grin

BadlyWrittenPoem · 02/01/2014 13:56

I've been doing a bit of work today for the first time since finding out I was pregnant. I need to get the accounts up to date and do the tax return before I go on maternity leave.

Slippersandacuppa · 02/01/2014 15:47

Happy new year! I shall endeavour to spend more time here as I've neglected it a tad over the last few weeks - sorry! How are you all? And welcome those who've just joined.

Can't believe it's third trimester time already, bump's big and I'm just wondering where the rest of the growth is going to go. Hmm. I'm hoping baby just replaces amniotic fluid, I really can't remember being bigger than this with the others but maybe that's self-preservation?

Yes to home births! I've had two (and one hospital birth for the first) and am hoping for the same again. I've had a pool both times and have yet to get in it before the birth! Practice runs didn't help, we had it filling up but the babies were ready first. Nice to have a hot tub bath in the living room afterwards though. I'll be trying again - might keep it half filled from 39 weeks and try to keep the kids out.

Hope those babies are growing well and that you're all feeling glowy.

BSpice · 02/01/2014 16:33

Happy New Year all! I'm another newbie ( week 30) but been lurking since the early days of not telling anyone & feeling rough! Now we're on the home straight and the threads have slowed down considerably thought I'd join in! I'm due 14th March though I reckon it's the 11th! I'm on team yellow with on baby no. 2 with a DD who is 3 & insistent I'm having a girl! I'm an old bird like Lyra & Pram, so hospital saying they want to induce me at 40 weeks, which I don't want so will probably have a sweep at 39 weeks so I can have a birth centre maybe pool birth! Thought better start getting organised so bought a Moses basket online at kiddicare yday, luckily still got lots of bits from DD so won't need much! V tech Baby monitor is knackered though, so will need new one- any thoughts?!

PainAuxRaisins · 02/01/2014 22:21

Happy New Year to oldies and newbies. Haven't posted in a while as the FB group is quite busy so I've been catching up on there instead. Went back to work today having had 10 days off work (and not doing ANY of the planned sorting/de-cluttering). Oh well, will have to do that when I go on mat leave in 7 weeks' time.
Best Christmas present? New pair of flat boots so no more tottering around on inappropriate heels. Worst present? Some headache-inducing perfume.

Re birth - was hoping for a MLU but 28 wk appt included growth scan predicting a whopper so like Yogi I too have a couple of extra scans (next one mid Feb) and if he keeps growing like this I can probably kiss goodbye to my longed-for waterbirth (sob). Love the idea of filling up birthpool early at home then trying to keep the kids out of it Slippers. When's everyone finishing work (if you haven't already done so)??

liberuna · 02/01/2014 22:53

Happy New Year to all. Look at all you newbies coming out of the wood work :)

I love hearing all the different options. Can someone tell me what birthing in a pool is like?

Im sticking my head in the sand about what to do. But I've spent the last few days scouring the Internet for bargains and bought ridiculous amounts of baby stuff. The carpet is coming over the weekend for baby room So expecting lots of deliveries next week to start filling it up. Woo hoo!

liberuna · 02/01/2014 23:03

raisin I've been at work this week it sucks. Love the boots gift.

bspice I've just got Tommy tf525 but this is my first

slippers apparently in third tri baby is gaining half a pound every week. Eek!

badly when are you off on mat leave? I have 8 weeks left.

fitz with you there. Who's your birthing partner?

Yogibear72 · 02/01/2014 23:29

Welcome BSpice from another newbie-ish. Can't offer any advise on the baby monitor as I haven't got one yet. Will I need it straight away for a newborn?

Pain Do they know the size of the baby from the scan or from the size of your bump? My scan is next week and is for low lying placenta however since my last appoint my bump seems to have had a growth spurt. Either it's a whooper or there's a lot of fluid in there.

Went back to work today which I didn't mind as made for a change of scenery. From Monday I have six weeks left taking me up to 38 weeks. It's been an interesting experience being pregnant at work with some colleagues. One in particular made a subtle but snide comment before leaving today about my working from home tomorrow. I have a long commute whilst he has a 20 minute one and lives alone which is probably why he feels it necessary to go to the office everyday despite us all being home enabled. Grrrrrr Angry !!!
Fortunately, my boss has 3 kids under 5 and has been really good so that's all that really matters as I hope to go back to this job.

dizhin79 · 03/01/2014 00:18

urrrrrg I have 8 weeks left too, am trying to work up to the end of week 39.

welcome even more semi newbies :)
