My nephew really is adorable, Sultana. He's the cutest baby I know and always so good-natured. I've told my sister that if this one is a PITA I'm swapping with her :o

You've been busy today, nature! Well done!

As for the slow cooker, I've used mine loads lately. I made a lovely lamb casserole yesterday. Then I put all the leftovers (3 good portions) in foil trays with lids and left them on the worktop to cool. Came downstairs this morning and realised I'd left them there instead of putting them in the freezer and had to chuck them :(

Tomorrow's slow cooker recipe is pulled pork. Boneless pork joint. Sliced peppers and onions in the bottom of the cooker with the pork on top. Make a BBQ sauce/marinade thing -- loads of recipes online (or use a bought one) and pour over. Leave on low for at least 6 hours. Remove the pork, shred the meat with forks and put back in the slow cooker with the sauce and onions/peppers for half an hour or so.
Serve with rolls, salad, coleslaw, more BBQ sauce. And Rennies Wink

It's the easiest thing I've ever made, and we often have it on a Sunday because I can put it all in the slow cooker before we all go to rugby and I don't have to cook when I get home.

MrsGSR · 05/10/2013 22:13

Good to have you back farmer :) I've got my flu jab on Tuesday, I've been warned that my arm will be sore for a while after.

I'm too easily influenced, I'm adding 'slow cooker' to the list DH is making me write for my birthday next month :)

DH had been inspired by x factor and has spent a while singing to my bump! We bought a car seat today :) and a few half presents for Christmas, I'm feeling very organised but will probably still end up buying most of them the week before!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 05/10/2013 22:59

Hello hello!

All this cooking & baking - aren't we all active! I met up with my DM & DF today for lunch, as a belated birthday celebration. DM, who's a misery-guts at the best of times, was on particularly fine form. Sulked for a good forty minutes about fuck knows what and only cheered up when she got the chance to whinge about something.

She also told me:

  1. No need for whooping cough or flu jabs whilst pg - 'vaccinations weaken the body'
  2. Babies can be made to sleep at any time, as and when parents require it. Otherwise you are 'letting the baby run your life'.
  3. Ligament loosening (the relaxin thing) only happens in the week or two leading up to birth, so I should get the doctor to check if my feet getting bigger is due to 'water retention'.
  4. I should be doing more exercise now I'm pregnant (even though I didn't before being pg), as that's why I'm out of breath. Nothing to do with being seven months pregnant.
  5. I shouldn't take the baby into Central London until it's six months old, as otherwise it will get sick (possibly from the lack of vaccinations? Hmm) - but if we stay out in the 'burbs, obviously germs won't be able to cross that invisible sterile barrier they have erected around Zone One.

FFS. She's only going to get worse. Oh, and my birthday presents from her (always random, usually crap) were: one of those foldaway scrunchy bags, a canvas book bag, and a maternity pillow from Aldi which I'd asked her to get me. Apparently all the things on my list were too 'focused on the baby' (I asked for a birthing ball & maternity coat), but buying me shopping bags is fine.

And breathe Grin.

MrsGSR · 05/10/2013 23:03

Flowers humpty That doesn't sound like fun!

BookTart · 05/10/2013 23:33

God humpty, she sounds challenging :)

Okay, so the baby hasn't been moving much up to now (so little that I went in to be checked on Friday). Well today she just hasn't stopped! Is that okay, or am I supposed to get checked for suddenly having lots of movement? Is it a sign of distress or anything? I'm so clueless about all of this, sorry. I've had a Google but haven't found many answers.

Naturegirl82 · 05/10/2013 23:50

Thanks mrsvdb. If I've done my sums right I think I can get it with the family fix base for £770 which seems like a good deal. I'll have to buy the base and car seat now to get 15% off and then the pram at the end of the month to get 10% off. It's all a bit complicated but if it saves me money will be worth it Smile

All this talk of food is making me hungry. May have to go and raid the fridge!

chocoloulou33 · 06/10/2013 00:11

book I think its completely fine that the baby is moving so much. I'm having a day like that. He's on the move so much now I cant sleep! Especially like this when I've eaten or drank certain things. All that baking has taken its toll on my heartburn. Think this baby may come out addicted to gaviscon x

Toothfairy78 · 06/10/2013 00:22

Doh, it's past midnight!

Well done on shopping, cooling, swimming successes everyone!

humpty your DM sounds a bit miserable. Bit like my DF who I don't talk to that much cos he's really negative, even about positive things. And I don't go to him for advice except maybe about power tools.

We didn't get to go to Five Guys as the queue was practically down the street, so pizza it was! DH suggested lunch there on another weekend when he takes me to Tower of London.

And Book of Mormon was great! Though now I have earworm #Helloo, my name is Elder-butt-fuckin'-naked....#

AnotherStitchInTime · 06/10/2013 00:38

Sounds like you all had fun today. Well done on shopping, swimming and cooking.

Toby when you make bread in a slow cooker what setting do you put it on and for how long?

Book baby was probably just in a position where you can't feel her as much and now she has moved you can feel everything again.

humpty, smile and nod, then ignore Grin

The Bratzilla bloody doll turned into a mission that saw DH and I, plus two kids trawling toy stores in sw London trying to find one that hadn't sold out. Got to niece's party several hours late, but was nice to see all the family.

Only gripe is that because I have been either pregnant or breastfeeding for the last 5 years everyone assumes that I will just sit with the younger kids whilst they get pissed with the other adults. DH got told in no uncertain terms to take his turn on toddler taming duty today.

Off to bed now, DH has promised me a lie in tomorrow so I can rest easy knowing that I will not have to be up at the crack of dawn :)

Toothfairy78 · 06/10/2013 01:26

Hey another if you make bread in a slow cooker use the high setting from cold for around 2 to 2 1/2 hrs. Use fast action yeast, make sure to use grease proof paper so you can lift it out easily. You can use cold liquid to make the dough. When mostly cooked flip the bread over to brown the top which takes another half hour. Or you could grill it or something.

No need for kneading either!

TobyLerone · 06/10/2013 07:33

Morning, all :)

Humpty, your evening sounds fun Hmm

Book, I had a day like that on Friday. Non stop movement, which was quite painful at times. I felt sore and exhausted by the end of it!

Glad you enjoyed Book of Mormon, tooth :) Sad times about Five Guys. The queue moves fast, though, for future reference.

Enjoy your lie-in, another!

Sultanajo · 06/10/2013 08:13

Blimey humpty. My DM is really opinionated, but bites her tongue a lot. Love her to bits but drives me nuts sometimes! I bought the bump belt thingy for my seat belt and she took one look at it as I put it on and said "oh, does that work?" in that "that looks like a complete waste of money and I didnt have one when I was pregnant..." kind of way. I said it did and moved the conversation on quickly. Just let me do what makes me comfortable.....! I can imagine how much fun you had....Wine Wine Wine

toby the number of times I have left things to cool and forgotten about them! Soooo annoying!

Just trying to get up the energy to wash my hair before going to the nct sale.... My hair is growing really quickly too - am having to give myself fringe trims every week or so currently which is stressful (as one of these days I am gonna cock it up) but havent got time to go to the hair dressers to get them to do it....Confused

Naturegirl82 · 06/10/2013 08:14

Urgh I'm lying in bed. Dh is asleep, the pupster is asleep and I've been wide awake since 6.30. How frustrating.
Might nip out and get some bacon for a tasty breakfast to make it better! Smile

sarahleanne · 06/10/2013 08:26

Morning ,

book I think it was you? Lots of movement is totally fine and nothing to worry about . In fact it's a good thing really.

I ate 4 galaxy cake bars last night , I'm so ashamed.
They were so yummy and I was craving chocolate excuse

My sisters waters broke at 5:30Am , she's 3 days overdue and in her way to hospital as they told her to go in to get checked. No contractions as of yet though. I'm sooo excited!

Angelesque · 06/10/2013 08:46

sarahleanne ooh good luck sister! And don't feel bad about the cake bars... I've just eaten a triple chocolate cookie as an appetiser for my fry up, YUM.

I am v proud of myself - we have friends to stay and I stayed out till 11pm last night! In proper bars, drinking (non-alcoholic) cocktails and everything! Haven't done that in five months!

Knackered this morning, natch.

Sultanajo · 06/10/2013 08:46

nature bacon will make it all better!,Wink

sarah omg how exciting!,Grin

Toothfairy78 · 06/10/2013 09:56

sarah those cake bars are tiny. If you were to stack them together they'd barely be size of a slice of gateau. You wouldn't bat an eyelid at a slice of gateau now would you?

And good luck to your sister. Hope everything goes well for her.

OP posts:
AnotherStitchInTime · 06/10/2013 10:06

I agree nature, a good bacon sandwich cures early morningitis, it worked for me yesterday.

Sarah, very exciting, keep us nosy ladies posted Grin

Angel glad you enjoyed yourself.

Just having breakfast in bed that DH has made. A good thing I got a lie in this morning even if I couldn't sleep much because DH turned up the heating and our bedroom is now a sauna. Drunken revellers woke dd2 up at 2am and it took me ages to get back to sleep after she settled again. Poor thing was screaming in terror when she woke :(

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 06/10/2013 10:39

book I'm pretty sure lots of movement is a good thing - but I didn't even consider that it could be too much!

nature sounds like an excellent deal - worth it to save pennies.

loulou maybe if it's a boy, you could call it Gaviscon? Grin

tooth yay you had fun at Book of Mormon!
Can I ask - if you don't speak to your DF much (because of his negativity), does he get pissed off with you for not talking to him? My DM will sulk much much worse if I don't endure her ranting at least once a week.

another yay for breakfast in bed & lie in! Boo for fucking drunken idiots (I'm SO much less tolerant now I can't be one of them every so often Grin).

sultana Have fun at the NCT sale - and I am with you on the not having time for the hairdressers. Mine is long and straggly now. So tempted to just cut it straight across...

sarah good luck to your sister! And galaxy cake bars are part of the pregnancy diet, surely? I had super healthy fish & steamed veggies for dinner last night. Followed by ice cream and half a pack of marshmallows. Hmm

Thanks all for cheering me up re DM - she gets me down sometimes, but I'm all bounced back now Grin!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 06/10/2013 10:40

Bugger, meant to say angel you are HARDCORE. I can barely stay awake beyond 9pm!

TobyLerone · 06/10/2013 10:42

You buggers made me need a fry up, so I got supplies on the way back from dropping DS at rugby. It's cooking as I write :)

How exciting, sarah! I wish her a lovely sneeze birth :o

We had drunks outside last night too. V annoying!

Lazy day today, I think.

Frizz1986 · 06/10/2013 11:28

Dont worry about all the food ladies. I went and got 6 choc bars from tesco last night. I have only eaten one and a half so far so am very proud of myself.
I did almost cry at the self service though as tesco do 3 for £1.20 on some choc bars and i only took £2.40 in with me and thought i had picked all 6 on the offer but it came up as £3.09. I decided i had prob picked something not on the deal which i thought was stupid as all the choc bars were the same price on the screen so why would 1 not be in the offer. Anyway I pressed the assistance button and was just ignored. Ended up cancelling them all off and going to check myself. The mars bar was not on the offer but was pn a different offer. Too many yellow stickers for different offers, its so confusing!!Cue mega stressy pregnant lady!

Have made all my cupcakes tis morning though which is good.

sarahl good luck to ur sister.

tooth glad book of mormon was good. So want to go.

humpty i think i would have lost it!

angel i fell asleep at 9:30 so very impressed you lasted so long out and about.

Right must go take pooch out and get some balloons for the bday girl at work tomorrow.

sarahleanne · 06/10/2013 12:01

Haha I'm so glad I am not the only fatty munching on loads of cake :)

another I hate drunk people when I am sober! I to have drunken cuntpuffins that wake up Dd on a regular basis! It really pisses me off!

Well sister has been put on a drip at about 11am as she had meconium in her waters. Eeeek I am soo excited. I'm going to be an auntie by the end of the day I suspect ( it's her first).

Toothfairy78 · 06/10/2013 12:44

Hi humpty well DF doesn't get bothered by this. He's one of these people that likes being on his own quite a bit, so we check up on each other every now and then and I jolly him along as much as possible. My brothers have the same approach too and we just roll eyes and smile at each other if he's being a miserable git. I usually stick to the success stories and only tell of "failures" after I've turned them into a success...usually as a an amusing story of what a palava it was and I like telling stories.

And speaking of successes, after knitting things for other people's sprogs, today I finished knitting first toy for ToothJr! It's a blue elephant with tutti fruity rainbow coloured ears (and feet)! DH made some creative input by suggesting an extra stitch in one of the eyes to make them more even, which worked! And it took ages to stuff properly to ensure it didn't have a wonky bum. Grin

Ok, after reading everything all I can remember is ekkkk sarah! Thats soooo exciting! Keep us posted!

Plus cake bars....I ate a pack of five smarties cake bars the other day! Oops!,Grin

Well the nct sale was good - spent £16.50 & got two snow suits, a few baby grows, two packs of bodysuits and a couple of jumpers. Very happy with that! Even if we dont use some of it for long it doesnt matter as all bargains! Got one more in a few weeks. Annoyingly the main one near us clashes with our second NCT class - grrrr!

However, my lower back totally seized after two hours cleaning yesterday followed by an hour walking round the nct sale and two hours food shopping. Am suddenly having to waddle when I walk! Blush Hoping its only temporary until it loosens up again.....Hmm
