Here is my packing list for my hospital birth.... Looks long but actually fits in two smallish bags - one for baby and one for me. Also going to have a carrier in the car with more nappies and maternity pads.

Labour
Vest and jogging bottoms (instead of nightie for me)
Dressing gown
Socks
Flip flops
Hair bands and hair brush
Ipad and charger
Earphones and mini speaker
Mobile phone and charger
Camera
Snacks
Sweets and mints
Drinks
Straws (so someone can feed you a drink between contractions)
TENS machine (although I'll probably already be attached!)
Exercise ball (in car in case there isn't one available)
Maternity notes
Birth plan
Regular medication
Pen and paper
Money
Tissues
Water spray and Flannel (for hot head)
Lip balm

Postnatal
Breastfeeding nightie
Slippers
Nursing bra
Granny pants
Socks
Maternity pads
Breast pads
Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo)
Ear plugs (for noisy ward)
Eye mask (for day resting)
Towel
Going home clothes

Baby
Sleep suitsx3
Vests x3
Hat
Cardigan
Nappies x10
Wipes/cotton wool
Muslins
Folding changing mat
Flannel blanket/large muslin for swaddling

I'm going to feel like Mary Poppins!

Oops, I don't know what happened to my last post, I was trying to wish Feather a Happy birthday Flowers

My list looks similar to LadyM, I've included a few things for DH too. I haven't started packing, so I've no idea how big the pile looks!

Chilli81 · 14/10/2013 12:39

Thanks Lady Medea that list is really useful. I have a day's holiday on Wednesday so may make a start on getting a few bits together.

Happy birthday feather. have a lovely day.

Welcome applepiesky

Happy Birthday feather Flowers

and welcome applepiesky

I keep meaning to ask stom did you go to your BF class? Was it useful? There's one by me this thursday I might pop along to.

Been really sick at work this afternoon, just came over all funny and luckily made it to the bathroom on time & I still have a mini mouthwash in my hand bag from the epic long lasting morning sickness I had. Still feel so out of it but don't feel sick anymore. It set in motion a huge round of braxton hicks though, went on for about 15 minutes, started to panic baby was going to come 8 weeks early but they eventually calmed down. Don't know whether or not to go home, I don't feel like I'm going to be sick again but I now feel dog tired and not quite with it.

PinkWitch803 · 14/10/2013 13:44

mrs you have to ask yourself if you areyou much use at work when you feel wobbly?! I would personally head home to rest.

In case anyone is interested, I have been watching a thread from a couple of weeks ago about bags and packing. One thing which is on my list along with all the other stuff is a charger for phone and camera!

This is a thread I am watching on bags www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1867631-What-to-pack-in-hospital-bag

PinkWitch803 · 14/10/2013 13:45

I hope you are having a nice day feather. Is it any sweeter now you have finished work too?

LadyMedea · 14/10/2013 13:46

Ooh hadn't thought about packing for DH... He will have his own portion of the snack bag but might put in a clean t shirt for him too in case he gets covered in goo. Out of rush hour we are only 10 mins from the hospital so hopefully he can always pop home easily... Got to think of the cats too, if its a weekend our neighbors are often away.

Hi everyone!
Well I've been MIA for the past week so I won't even pretend to try and catch up on everything. I hope everyone is doing well!
I have made it safely to the US after a very long flight thankfully in business class as I don't think my back would've survived sitting for so long. It's a bit of an adjustment to be here but the weather is amazing. We spent the weekend on the beach. We also found a place to live and moving in next weekend. It will be nice to finally settle and be able to start getting baby things. Found a lovely doctor too so I'm relieved. It's great to be reunited with my dh, I really missed him.

Ok just wanted to post a quick update to say I'm alive. I will now try to read through at least the last couple of days to see how everyone is doing xx

kchapper5 · 14/10/2013 14:16

Happy Birthday Feather :) Cake
Oo thanks for the link and will definitely be copying your list LadyM

WhisperMen · 14/10/2013 14:27

Hello again rose I was wondering how you were doing. Bet you're glad that your'e with your DH again. Lucky you getting to be on the beach. It's horrible cold and rainy here.

PinkWitch803 · 14/10/2013 14:34

Congratulations on making it to the other side rose. It sounds like it was worth the wait. keep us posted as our foreign correspondant and don't forget to keep us jealous with weather updates. On this Island there are rumours of lots of heavy snow through the whole of winter!

kchapper5 · 14/10/2013 14:39

oo xpost, so glad to hear from you, i was wondering about you the other day. Very jealous of the weather and the beach trips. :) definitely keep us updated

MrsShrubs · 14/10/2013 14:42

Completely right pinkwitch I've spoken to one of the partners and they've agreed its best I go home and get my head down. Hate having to go home sick it always makes me feel guilty.

Yay rose glad you're there safe & sound and reunited with DP!!!!!

PinkWitch803 · 14/10/2013 14:48

Good job mrs. Take care of you

Featherbag · 14/10/2013 15:00

Go home and go to bed Mrs, hope you feel better soon! Rose, so pleased you can start getting properly settled now, and that you're back with your do don't forget about us!

LadyM, your list looks fab except for one thing - I ended up wearing a floral pink hospital nightie when in labour with DS as the vest/jogging bottoms combo just doesn't work for labour! You'll end up in just the vest, not a good look, take a nightie!

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone, unfortunately have managed to piss DH off and he's gone off out in a strop. He's skived off work for the day at the last minute, but I already had plans to go for a birthday lunch with DM, he insisted I went anyway (they get on ok but it would've just been awkward the 3 of us and I know DM was really looking forward to it) but apparently I was out too long and now he's in one. Still, got some lovely presents and currently sitting munching happily through a very large box of chocs Grin

Stom91 · 14/10/2013 15:01

Glad you made it safe rose jealous of the weather it's freezing here!

MrsShrubs no i haven't been yet it's on the 24th

I've got the water birth/ active birth class tomorrow though!

Oh and dont feel guilty about being ill it's not your fault. Hope you feel better soon..

Happy birthday Featherbag

abcdemma · 14/10/2013 15:34

Happy Birthday feather and glad you've made it and been reunited rose :) Welcome applepie and anyone else I've missed...
I've made hospital bag lists so it's just getting the bits together now. All baby stuff still at home - mum and dad's - so once that's down I will put baby's bag together asap. I think someone somewhere mentioned nappy bags (if using) but that's the only extra thing I can think of. Wasn't going to bother with muslin squares but after hearing loads of people raving about them I might grab some.
Take some rest MrsS Brew

Featherbag · 14/10/2013 15:45

Just bought my usual eyebrow pencil from Clinique and treated myself to one of their lip balms too, got given a makeup bag with perfect hospital-bag sized mini moisturiser, mascara, eye cream, facial scrub wash, coloured lip balm and blusher in, only have to add a couple of bits and have a fully-functioning mini makeup kit for the bag!

Won't be sitting putting a full face on in hospital but I am hoping to be able to get some actual photos of newborn DS2 with me and DH, instead of covered in wires photographed through the plastic walls of an incubator like DS1, and would like to not look too horrendous in them!

WhisperMen · 14/10/2013 15:54

Can you all just tell me to man up please? I'm having cramps and feel like shit. Like period cramps and they won't freaking go away. Can't have a bath till DP is home after my incident yesterday and he is working until 8. I just need someone to give me a good shake and tell me to stop moping around please.

ringaringarosy · 14/10/2013 15:58

I would say you need at least another couple of nighties or pjs for after the birth and probably double the amount of clothes for the baby,i had my first in hospital and i bled thorugh about 4 pairs of pjs and my baby swallowed lots of fluid on the way out so puked over everything!I only took 3 vests/gros in with me and i had to wait until the morning for someone to bring me some clean ones for him,was a nightmare!

On the other hand, with my second and last hospital birht i went home after 3 hours!so all the stuff i took i never used!

MildredH · 14/10/2013 16:36

Happy birthday Feather! A deferred Wine for you post d-day! Have you been signed off now?

Having been great all of last week- because the ward was well staffed- today was a nightmare. Short staffed and had to do the whole ward round. Just at the end of it- I'm nearly in tears with groin pain and someone asks me to do some urgent bloods Sad. Find it so hard to say no.

2 days left- mat leave starts Thurs Grin

33+2 today- think the hosp bag will be first job post finishing work.

Glad you're Stateside safely Roselau- weather is grey and chilly here! Settling in over there is going to be a great distraction to make the rest of your pregnancy fly!

Stom91 · 14/10/2013 17:02

Urgh.. Feeling really sick and got this horrible taste/ smell but can't really explain it... Its making me feel So sick!

My back and hip is killing me - all I've done is wash up and hoover.. And i feel exhausted..

Feeling pants :(

Sorry needed a winge

BohemianRaspberry · 14/10/2013 17:30

Looking for some support today please. Been told that midwife led care in the birth centre may not be possible for me as my bmi when I checked in was high at 34. Have discovered they wrote my weight down wrongly (adding on at least two kilos which makes 34 wrong anyway) but it's still in the high regions apparently. I have to have special checks to see if I can actually go in.

This is despite my above average fitness (I do yoga and 3km powerwalks twice a week still) consistently good blood pressure, always clear bloods, normal fundal height measurements and great outcome from gtt. I am still judged.

I feel like a failure. I have tried my very best to stay healthy but now I find that everything I've done was pointless because I should have lost 4kg more before starting any of this.

I know it's overreacting but I feel so let down. Currently crying in the toilets and hoping I stop before pregnancy yoga or I'll have to go home. Sorry for the moan.

itsliz · 14/10/2013 17:36

Finally caught up on everyone's posts!

Glad you're having a nice birthday Feather, very jealous of your chocolate and Clinique goodies!

Welcome to the group applepie, feel free to request an invite to our Facebook group and add your details to our stats thread here as well: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/a1803742-December-2013-Stats#42118070
(Should we remove hetsto's name at some point? Made me sad spotting her stats on there just now Sad)

Rose, so happy to hear you've made it across the pond safe and sound! Must be so nice to finally be reunited with you DH Smile Not sure how it felt for you, but it seems like only yesterday that you were saying you had ages to wait before seeing him again!

And Whisper... MAN UP! Wink Or just use that as an excuse to snuggle up with paracetemol, a hot water bottle and some chocolate until your DP gets home!

Thanks to everyone that's made hospital bag suggestions. I think my list is nearly finished now!
Is anyone taking a CD or iPod for music during the birth? I'm not sure whether music will relax me or just make me annoyed on the day, but I wouldn't mind taking something just in case...
But do I go for calming slow songs, or something more energetic to help get him out!?!

LadyMedea · 14/10/2013 17:42

feather I hate the idea of labouring in a nightie (no idea why) and fully expect to end up just in vest but with dressing gown if I want I go wandering. I have no modesty and actually I'll probably be naked most of the time.

I'm taking the minimum in terms of post birth nighties and baby clothes as we are so close to the hospital that it will be easy for DH to pop home, either that or I will put some extra stuff in the car.
