Umlauf, Thanks so sorry it isn't going to plan yet, glad Bertie is getting colostrum from the syringe and sounds like he is nice and strong so not wasting away! I don't know how anyone starts breastfeeding with strangers observing and instructing and away from home in a hospital environment, especially if you are sharing a room and don't speak the language. Hardly relaxing! I will be leaving hospital ASAP even though they say they won't let you go until they see you feed successfully. Our NCT lady said they can't keep you there. I can then get help on my own terms at home if I need it.

Maybe could call some English helplines? Worth the distance phone call rates if it helps you.

Natalieand · 28/09/2013 21:20

Wow I cannot believe how many of us have had waters go first before contractions, I always thought it was fairly rare but apparently not lol. Hope things kick off naturally for u fav xx

PseudoBadger · 28/09/2013 21:21

Yes MrsO, sleep when they sleep if you feel like it.

Smitten1981 · 28/09/2013 21:23

I had to buy the bear hat and mittens Flyer - so cute.

This kid's gonna hate me for dressing him up like a bear/elf/monkey I'm sure!

OrangeBlossom2 · 28/09/2013 21:25

Hope it goes well tomorrow favellio.

Flyer747 · 28/09/2013 21:26

Haha smitten mine too, I love seeing babies with bear stuff on its so cute.

Good luck fav hope things progress for you x

PseudoBadger · 28/09/2013 21:27

Good luck Faviello!

Wickedgirl · 28/09/2013 21:27

MrsO, I too say sleep as much as you can when the baby sleeps. Breast feeding is exhausting enough so do make sure you have plenty of resting time even if you don't sleep. Most new mums are guilty of watching their baby sleep rather than sleeping too.

Is it just me or has the stats page stopped working? My ipad can't find it even though it was working.

PseudoBadger · 28/09/2013 21:29

I think the link might be wrong, I tried it earlier and got the same so I went in through the link on the last thread.

OMG this baby needs to stay put for another week (I'm 38 weeks today)!

My toddler developed a severe case of croup last night (inflammation of the throat). Struggling to breathe, temp and generally poorly. Ended up on the children's ward and only just got home now. Thank god he's ok now, but he's contagious for about a week, which is why I'm all of a sudden praying for baby to stay put until at least then. It's also DHs birthday today :(. Not been the best!

Huge congratulations to all the new mummies and babies. I'm enjoying all the pics and updates on Facebook as I can't seem to keep up on here you are all so chatty!

Racheld33 · 28/09/2013 22:29

livened feeling for you as my DS had croup last week! a couple of very long nights awake! hope he sleeps well tonight,

Thanks for the welcome to the overdue club funkky still feeling normal, other than heartburn and indigestion (damn that curry!)

Sending Thanks to umlauf it can be really hard at first when BF, keep doing what everyone else has suggested because that's all you need to do xxxxx

Haylebop12 · 28/09/2013 22:32

Isaac is completely free of oxygen!!!

He will be moved to a cot in the morning and I will be able to feed him Grin He's maintaining his stats all by himself and his breathing has dramatically improved.

Right now to catch up.....

Natalieand · 28/09/2013 22:36

Excellent news hayle what a worry off your mind x

moonblues · 28/09/2013 22:38

Sorry you're having a tough time umlauf. Please feel free to ignore this, but I second what orange says about trying to get you and Bertie topless and just let him lie skin to skin. Sometimes tickling their nose and lips with your nipple helps them to open their mouth and then when he has a big open mouth try to position him so that he gets a mouthful of your areola before your nipple, so that your nipple gets up on the roof of his mouth. Then hopefully he'll start sucking.

It's strange how babies have to learn how to breastfeed. My first health visitor said that boys always seem to take longer to get the hang of it than girls, but don't know if there's any truth in that. I hope the feeding goes better and you get home soon. Flowers

moonblues · 28/09/2013 22:40

That's great news Hayle!

PseudoBadger · 28/09/2013 23:59

Fabulous news Hayle!

I need to vent - DP and I have told immediate family and I've told one friend about yesterday's news.
DP tonight has posted what I consider to be an attention seeking post on Facebook without giving any details. God those piss me off.
Therefore I've had 2 friends message me asking what's up. DP has accused them of being nosy and said it's nothing to do with them and I shouldn't tell them. So now I've got people who are concerned for our well being and are worried about us, because of DP, and he doesn't want me to tell them. I've told him that he was attention seeking and said he must be ashamed/embarrassed if he doesn't want them to know. And that if I want to tell people (who he involved - not me!) then I will.
Sorry to be petty but I'm upset now. And my BP isn't great tonight.

TheFalconsmistress · 29/09/2013 00:21
