Names, such a delicate subject! So easy to offend. My advice is to not tell anyone (especially grandparents-to-be) before the baby arrives as they will be very quick to piss on your chips if they don't like your choice. Bit harder to criticise once you've announced the birth/name.
When 38wks pg with DS (who is called William) and we had decided on either William or Edward for a boy, we were at a wedding seated with an absolutely moronic woman. She got too pissed and was a divorce lawyer so talked about divorce and the high probability of divorce a lot (somewhat inappropriate at my best mates' wedding?!)
Anyway this goon asks if we've chosen a name yet. I say we have but it's a secret. So she launches into a story about how she hates really boring names and how lacking in imagination they are. Using as boring name examples, yes you've guessed it, Edward and William.
And what is her darling offspring called. Jonty. Fucking Jonty.
So I, all innocence, say 'oh that's so popular now though isn't it? Really common, top 10 I think'. Ha. In your face Mrs 'I'm so out there'.
Disclaimer: I don't know or care if that is true. I also didn't really hate the name that much, pretty meh about it TBH. But she was such a twat I now associate it with her.
