mmm brownies .... How do you make sweet potato ones Toby?

Re: the rage thing. I am much more chilled out this time. When I was 8 months pregnant with dd1 some idiot woman tried to push me from behind as I was getting off the escalator, because I wasn't fast enough for her apparently. She got an earful from both me and DH who was in front of me wheeling off a suitcase (hence why I couldn't go any faster).

Hope you feel better soon Tarka, colds are rough especially when pregnant.

fryingpantoface · 16/09/2013 11:03

Sympathy to those with colds! I'm just getting over mine, it's been just over a week. Everything takes so much longer to get over.

I managed to sleep funny and I've hurt my neck. So i'm feeling all sorry for myself today!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/09/2013 11:45

Oooh, sweet potato brownies toby. Yummity. May need to know how those work. Y'know, for science.

tarka feel better, a cold must be particularly miserable if you can't nuke it with Lemsip. My mum swears that Redoxon Vit C is better than any other kind (not sure if it's PG safe, but worth checking?) for colds.

fryingpan ouch - is it a wry neck? Can you move it without screaming? If it's a wry neck, you'll need a doc/chiropractor to pop it into place. I had that once - bloody horrible. Can you take it easy today?

Just had my 25 week appointment (eek! How am I 25 weeks already - well, 24+3) - heard the hb for the first time, bean is measuring exactly right, which is nice. Had the nice midwife again, who makes me laugh - she finds EVERYTHING I say really funny, and is really sweet when I ask silly questions.

Mythreeknights · 16/09/2013 11:47

For those with colds, try vitamin c and zinc - both are allowed in pg, in fact zinc is a recommended supplement as it's necessary for functioning DNA in foetus's. Chillies, ginger tea, fresh garlic on crackers (as much as you can stomach), sleep, pints and pints of water, vaseline under your nose and vicks on feet. I've been fighting off my 3 year olds cold all week, think I'm doing ok so far...

I'm feeling MARVELLOUS today - having had a shitty nights sleep on Sat night/Sunday, and feeling dreadful yesterday, today by contrast I feel normal and awake and just found out 2 bits of great news - one friend pg with second baby and one just engaged! Whoppee x

Mythreeknights · 16/09/2013 11:48

Humpty can I have your midwife please? Mine is complete opposite - cold, abrupt and disinterested. I wouldn't dare crack a joke in case she breathed fire on me.

Frizz1986 · 16/09/2013 12:47

mythree how lovely. Always nice when there is happy news around.

humpty so jealous of your MW app. I can't wait for my 25 week one. Do they measure the bump?? Hope my MW doesn't say its huge! Is it from 25 weeks that they get more regular too. Like every 3 weeks???

OMG all I can think of now is brownies..... Really like the sound of sweet potato ones but am now also dreaming of chocolatey gooey hazelnut ones. Damn it!!!! This cheese sandwich is just not going to fill the void.

OP posts:
HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/09/2013 13:36

mythree I will send her over to you! The last one I had (one of a team) was like yours - so glad I had the nice one again today! The horrid one sneered when I asked her about my persistent runny bum, and said 'you do know you're pregnant?' in a v disparaging way. Bitch.
Glad you're feeling chipper and have had such lovely news, hurrah!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/09/2013 13:37

frizz yep, I had the official tape measure of fundus (fundal?) applied. 24cm. Bang on My next appt is 28 weeks, so yes, I think this is where it starts to grind into action a bit more - anyone else?

TobyLerone · 16/09/2013 14:39

Sweet potato brownies recipe. It's popular with everyone I know (and especially teenage boys, it seems!).

Yay for good midwife appointments. I've got the consultant this week and the midwife next week. Then probably another scan. Then more midwife, more consultant, another scan, repeat to fade. I don't think I'll have much time free from bloody medical appointments!

frying, do you have a cherry pit bag or something -- you know, the ones you put in the microwave? Could you put that around the back of your neck to ease the pain? Poor you :(

Sultanajo · 16/09/2013 15:16

OMG! Chocolate brownies....dribble dribble! Now have a MASSIVE craving for them! Warm with vanilla ice cream! Lush! And perhaps a tiny bit of chocolate sauce drizzled over the top? Drool!

Humpty and mythree I HATE midwives who are disinterested and sarcastic! My last one was horrible and I didn't feel I could ask anything without getting some snarky remark.... My current one is nice, but perhaps a bit too "relaxed" about a few things I have mentioned. I wanted to ask her about the large abdomen at the last scan, so I did, only for her to stop me mid-sentence and say "don't worry, loads of people are told that and it's nothing to worry about". I didn't feel I could ask anything further as she had already basically moved on. OK, so perhaps it isn't anything to worry about in her eyes because maybe loads of people are told it, but her saying that in the way she did actually didn't make me feel any better.... Great your current one is lovely Humpty.

My midwife didn't measure my bump at my 25 week check just gone - I didn't think they started doing that until 28 weeks....perhaps like everything else it varies with area...

Frying poor you with your sore neck! Horrible when that happens! Is it just sore when you try and turn or all the time?

Mythree great to hear some exciting news and a double dose also! Woop woop!

TobyLerone · 16/09/2013 15:18

The good thing about the sweet potato ones is that you need less fat and less sugar. I use less sugar even than it says, and they're always good.

Sultanajo · 16/09/2013 15:33

Well that's a complete bonus! Bring them on!!!

I just had a phone call - heart stopped and thought it was gonna be the hospital saying I had diabetes. It wasn't thankfully! Instead it was the company who will be delivering my cotbed. Well, considering I ordered it from kiddicare, I didn't expect them to be a company based in the Netherlands and that is where they will be delivering from!!! So he will be in my area on 30th September - otherwise he would have to try and organise a date in October. He really wanted me to have the September date, so pushed me into it.

He also got funny when I said I didn't want it assembled yet - he kept saying "but it will only take them 15 minutes, if time is an issue". Ummm, no, we are gonna be re-doing the floor first so no point in putting it up yet and also feel it's jinxing things putting things up too early! It's one thing buying it and then leaving it in boxes - a whole other thing to put it all up already! Will need something to do when I go off in November anyway, so that will be the time for nesting, cleaning and assembling! Grin

alteredimages · 16/09/2013 15:52

hello all!

i am on a major procrastination spree because i'm supposed to be clearing out the flat ready to spray for bed bugs later this week. i am very itchy and red and fed up.

beginning to get really wound up about our bed too. Sad it's a fold out futon thing and the mattress has a stupid unpadded bit in the middle where it folds which i always end up sleeping on. if i sleep on the edge then the thing tips over. argh! rant over. i shoud suck it up cos we're getting a new one on sat but it's smaller than the one now and lower, so not sure how i'll get in and out when sore after the birth.

anyone else still getting leg cramps? i had one on sat morning, it was crazily sore! it still hurts so might mention it to midwife tomorrow.

hope everyone else is having a good day. apologies for the eeyore like tone of this post. i really need to get it together!

TarkaTheOtter · 16/09/2013 16:25

I wake up with cramp in my right foot most mornings at the moment. Always the right one. If you get any good tips from the midwife please pass them on!

I've survived my train journey home and am currently trying to do the sofa/duvet thing to recover from my cold. Unfortunately I'm doing it with a toddler who keeps running off with my inhaler. She has also comandeered the tissues and will only let me have one at a time and then only if I let HER wipe MY nose.

Rant ahead- my dh picked up an electric breast pump I'd lent to a friend in an emergency and in full knowledge that I would need it back. I gave it to them fully boxed like new. They have returned it a few months later in a carrier bag (no box) with all the electric parts missing. They're friends of dh's so I am letting him deal with it but I REALLY want to send a passive aggressive message along the lines of "thanks for taking such good care of my breast pump you cuntpuffins ".

TarkaTheOtter · 16/09/2013 16:27

sultana don't want to get your hopes up but when I was diagnosed with GD I had a message on my phone by the time I was home from the hospital.

MrsGSR · 16/09/2013 16:32

I hoe you feel better soon altered, frying and tarka. Stupid beds, neck ache and colds! I hope the crowd tricks work for those who are struggling.

I'm on a bit of a downer, my BIL & SIL have just left, DH went away yesterday so I'm alone now for 2 weeks :( I do have a night in planned with a friend on Thursday, but I have an exam next month so mostly I have to lock myself away and force some revision!

I've also been having bad back pain that I'd just been ignoring as I figured it was just muscular until my SIL pointed out that the pain is where my bladder is. Apparently her friend had pain there when she had a bladder infection. So it looks like the antibiotics might not have worked. I'm a bit annoyed as they first detected an infection in the 8 week appointment, waited until 16 weeks to tell me and request another sample, the results took 2 weeks to come through and were posted so I didn't receive them until after I got home from holiday. And now it looks like I still have the infection at almost 23 weeks Angry

Mythreeknights · 16/09/2013 17:01

Sultana if it makes you feel any better, this baby's cot is already up as it has been sitting in a spare room since my youngest 'graduated' from it. I don't think it will jinx anything.

I did feel v pleased with MY FIRST BABY PURCHASE - in a local charity shop I found the exact same cot mobile that my other 2 kids had and which broke with my youngest hanging off it. So, for £15 I have got another one (£50 new)! Wiooop woo.

Mrs GSR bad bad luck with the bladder infection...but aren't you in a whole load of pain all the time? I picked up a parasite in Africa years ago which lived between my bladder and urinary tract and basically munched it's way through most of it...resulting in constant agonising cystitis for about a decade after. All cleared up now (touches wood), but I really do sympathise with UTIs. Uva Ursi is a herbal product which works WONDERS - might be safe in pg, not sure.

Tarka what idiots. That is really crap of them. I had the same when lending all my Mat clothes frompgs 1 and 2 to a friend who then lent them to another friend and when I eventually got them back, the bag had a completely different set of clothes in completely different sizes. On the positive side I was bored of some of the stuff anyhow so it was nice to get some new things, but some of my old favourites had gone and that really was annoying.

Sultanajo · 16/09/2013 17:10

Ekkkk Tarka will try not to grasp that information and run with it!!!! I am praying it's negative!!!

Altered I am not surprised you are feeling hacked off! I would be too! Poor you! Angry

Tarka glad you made your long train journey home! Phew! Bless your DD - clearly thinks she is taking care of you like you do of her! OMG I can't believe the breast pump situation! What is WRONG with people?? I would be mortified if I couldn't return something to someone in the condition I received it - in fact I just wouldn't, I would go out and buy another to replace it! Unbelievable! I hope they sort it out cos that's not on!!!

MrsG you aren't alone! We are all here and will all bundle round yours for a cheesy film and munchies night at the drop of a hat! Wink The revision for your exam sucks! Blerghhhh! And your potentially ongoing bladder infection sucks even more! Doesn't give you the greatest faith in your healthcare providers does it? The more I experience myself and the more I hear from people I know the more nervous it makes me! I am definitely gonna call my GP's practice in a couple of weeks if I haven't heard anything about my diabetes test to just make sure the reason I haven't heard is because it's negative and not because someone has lost it/misfiled it/assumed someone else has called..... Are you going to go back to your GP?

Sultanajo · 16/09/2013 17:16

Mythree it makes me feel a teeny bit better....Grin

I can't believe people who borrow things and don't return them in the way they should be. People have been offering me baby clothes and I have been panicking about how to remember who lent me what - so am gonna take pics of everything and label the pics, so I can return everything in as good condition as possible to the right people! Wish everyone had a similar attitude. There are things I have leant people that have either come back in a shitty condition or not come back at all (and because my memory is so bad, I remember lending them out but can't remember to whom, so that's them gone forever).

DH brought home a few books his colleagues have leant us - I really wish they hadn't as I am never gonna remember which books they were. I put them together in a bunch so I could at least remember which are theirs and then DH went and moved them! Sounds crazy that I don't know which ones are mine, BUT they are all on similar subjects to those I have already and they all look very similar in size, colour etc. I just wish he would take them back now so I don't have to worry about them going missing!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/09/2013 17:39

I am up for cheesy film and munchies at MrsG's - I'll try out toby's brownie recipe and bring the results. Bah to stupid bladders though.

tarka that's appalling - how rude. I'm sorry - will they replace, do you think?

mythree excellent bargain hunting skillz!

altered bad beds are the devil's work. I cried at my DH for three hours and he bought us a new mattress, even though we are in a rental and will have to leave it behind and will only have had five months use out of it. I cannot sleep in bad beds - yes, that's princessy, but I don't give a fuck, it's my one thing. You have my UTMOST sympathy.

sultana I wouldn't assemble the cot yet either if we'd bought or even chosen one. Not superstitious, just practical!

We bought a baby monitor today - the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature one, Which recommended as a Best Buy, and was £20 off (£65 originally) in the M&P sale. Feel like we're on the road to actually having a nursery - AND the landlords of the place we're moving to have FINALLY confirmed that we are def getting it. Once we have a move date, we can order nursery furniture and pram - no point before then. Eeek!

Sultanajo · 16/09/2013 17:50

ekkk humpty! Thats definite progress! Hopefully a moving date soon eh? We very nearly went for the same monitor because of the which reviews, but ended up with a BT one after seeing my mates in action....

BookTart · 16/09/2013 18:39

Oh god, you're all so organised! I WILL buy something soon. Probably.

tarka that's bang out of your friends, I hope they replace the missing bits.

mythree that's horrific! At least it has made me clench some muscles though - I keep forgetting my pelvic floor exercises but all I have to do is think about your parasite and I'm clenching away Grin

TarkaTheOtter · 16/09/2013 18:44

Congrats on the new place humpty. Hopefully you'll get a moving date soon.

Spacefrog35 · 16/09/2013 18:59

I've never used it but I like the look (& the name of) this website www.returnmypants.com/ might be helpful for those struggling with lending/ borrowing items?

I think I'm having a 'rage' day as well. I work with an idiot who not only talks to herself constantly all day but uses the word 'no' as a response to any statement without seeming to understand the implication that she is apparently disagreeing with you. Took half an hour of arguing this afternoon before we eventually figured out that when she said no, she actually meant OK. Added to that the big boss had a chat to the company today and announced they've employed a new team of people to take on half of the work my team does. No problem with this at all as my team can actually only get through half the work with the resources we have which is discussed with the boss last week but it would have been nice to have even 5 minutes notice that half my teams responsibilities were being reallocated rather than having it dropped on me in a company wide briefing! Aaaarrrggh cuntpuffins all of them Angry

How much do I want a pint of Wine

Sorry & breathe, thanks for listening ladies, as you were Smile

MrsGSR · 16/09/2013 18:59

Congrats on your new place humpty :)

Mythree that sounds terrible, I'm glad it's all cleared up now! I've been in a lot of pain, practically in tears by the evening! But I haven't thought anything of it as I have a bad back from an accident years ago and I expected it to get worse with pregnancy.

Couldn't get through to the GP this morning so hoping to get an appointment tomorrow.

I love cheesy movies! My DH has some crap chick flicks he claims he got free with other films, I might set out the sofa bed and watch a few!
