Wow...Lysettes...Congratulations!!!!!!! I feel rather emotional reading your post as you're the first in the group to have a baby & it makes me realise that it's not that long until we see everybody elses's popping out one way or another!! What a gorgeous name by the way.....do hope all continues to go well & please keep us updated with your news...

Angeliz · 23/07/2006 20:29

WOW again

CONGRATULATIONS on the Birth of Jacob. Fanb name.
Must be tough leaving him there but you sound overjoyed.

Wow!!

It's all so real now! BABIES!!

Coriander73 · 23/07/2006 20:42

Tell me about it...! Today DH went into loft & fetched me down DD's newborn babygros & vests (just the white ones until we know the sex!) so I can wash them etc! We're in the very ardious & "hot" (RAIN...WHERE ARE YOU?!!!) process of getting the spare room ready for painting etc for DD so need to try & get organised. DH had to bring the pc etc downstairs into the utility room & that's all been wired so he's feeling rather pleased with himself.....but there is so much to do (incl clearing up all the mess he's left behind) & I can't help but feel slightly panicked!!!!! Still at least only TWO more weeks at work..

Marls001 · 24/07/2006 01:51

Congratulations Lysettes!!

So glad to hear all went well !!

1Baby1Bump · 24/07/2006 07:21

congratulations lysettes!

I have 3 weeks and 4 days left at work- so jealous of coriander!

Im so fat and hot!!

Lysettes · 24/07/2006 08:39

thanks for the messages everyone!

you must be so hot - I'll carry on my rain dances - so much easier now my feet and ankles are (slowly) returning to normal size - tip for whoever has shrek feet - they don't disappear straight away!!! I was so dismayed.

and also i thought i was doing so well with weight gain, but on sunday morning i was weighed and i pretty much (with all the water i was holding onto) put on half my body weight!

lol

liquidclocks · 24/07/2006 08:47

Congratulations Lysettes! Love the name but most importantly very glad to hear you're both OK - make the most of your sleep before he gets home!

Compo, I have a similar situation. My parents are coming to look after DS and depending on where they are it could be 2 hours before they get here but because of my group strep B and quick labour last time I have to go in as soon as labour starts. I've asked some friends if they'd mind coming just until my parents arrive and if they're not around I've got a bit of a back-up list. They're not people I've known overly long as I only moved to the area when I had DS but I know they'd rather I ring them than struggle IYSWIM. Is it worth asking the midwife a 'what if' and seeing if DS did come with you whether there'd be toys and whether he could stay out of the room just while LO's being born so he doesn't get frightened? I can understand your DH not wanting to miss out, it is the only time it'll ever happen! About booking a hotel, would she need to until after LO's born? - while you an DH are in hospital could she have your bed - we're leaving clean sheets out in an obvious place for my folks and if DH had to come home for a rest he can sleep on the sofa. That way bookings would only have to be made when you know for definite. Just thoughts - hope you figure it out but don't worry too much (well, try!)

Bella23 · 24/07/2006 09:46

Lysettes - WOW congrats!! Gosh our first little one has arrived
Yes will want to hear all about C section etc as still chance I will have one as placenta still might be low etc

Compo - yes agree with Liquidlocks, your Mum can sort herself out in your bed and your DH can stay on the sofa if he needs a kip. Seems a better plan than booking hotels and perhaps having to wait a week etc

Coriander - also jealous of your 2 weeks left of work, I have 3 and I think the final week is going to be a killer as I am just so huge and bad tempered!! To be honest all would be a lot better if this damn heatwave would go away!
Apparantly its going to be hot again this week - YIKES!!

Had cot delivered last week and got all excited to put it up at the weekend only to discover that it was impossible as the holes were in the wrong place !! Therefore have to send the bloody thing back and order a new one...........I swear nothing is ever easy. Wardrobe we ordered came and was the wrong one and then our washing machine has packed up and the guy never turned up - its a conspiracy I tell you !!

Will do the RAIN dance and pray for storms and cool weather

Hope you are all managing to keep cool.
We start our NCT classes tonight so hope there are some nice people there tonight.

homemama · 24/07/2006 10:25

Compo, I agree with everyone else that that sounds like the best plan. We're in a similar position, no family close by, new area so no friends close enough to take DS and very quick labour last time. This is all why I wanted a home birth but they're not keen as such a mw shortage and also said we'd need to have someone else here for DS. Honestly not sure what we are going to do.

Bella, hope your NCT classes are what you are looking for. They're great for making friends and helping with early labour techniques. However, please don't feel guilty if you don't manage the 'natural' birth that NCT classes strive for. One woman from my class felt too upset to come to coffee afterwards as she'd had an emergency c-section and this had left her quite poorly meaning that B/F just didn't work out. She thought she wouldn't be welcome!

Hope everyone is well! Norms, you haven't posted for a while, hope you are doing ok.

Lysettes, still feeling chuffed at your wonderful news!

compo · 24/07/2006 11:45

Wow, Lysettes congratulations I too feel quite emotional that someone has had a 'September' baby!! get lots of rest so you are ready for when little Jacob comes home. (love the name too).
Thanks everyone for your advice and kind words re. going into hospital. I know it will turn out all right (it has to doesn't it?!!) but sometimes it's hard to feel rational. We have the same problem with homebirths here Homemama - the midwife told me that they've cut the antenatal classes for parents-to-be over the summer because they can't afford the staff I'm so glad I'm not a first timer as those classes were really helpful.
More heat and stickiness today... grrr!!

CONGRATS LYSETTES wonderful news and a beautiful name. Good luck to Jacob on getting home soon!! xxxxx

Bella23 · 24/07/2006 12:59

Homemama - thanks for info re NCT, I had heard they are rather pushy on the natural front. Am afraid I just don't buy into all that stuff as think each to their own as are all different.
Luckily I am a stubborn mule who will end up doing what she wants!!

puppy · 24/07/2006 13:00

gosh its a warm one today saying 32 for outside here and 25.3 inside.

I had forgotten that the baby will get a voucher, ds missed out by a few months. Will have to get my thinking cap on.

Compo hope you work something out, a homebirth sounds a fab idea as already mentioned

I did a sunday dinner yesterday consisting of microwave roast beef, frozen yorkies, frozen roast pots and microwave veg

Already posted on birth announcement but congrats lysettes on the birth of Jacob, hope his home times coes soon for you both, keep posting on here too , gosh its scary seems so real now that I will have a new arrival in the house in 8wks

oh Bella23 its all happening at once for you itsn't it, hope you get things replaced with ease.

Well still sick here , spd has got to the point when on sat night i had to go upstairs on my bum step by step, had physio this am and she gave me crutches , besides that alls well.
DS visits his new school on thurs, can't believe my little boy is going to big boys school, he is growing up so fast. DSD has now left school and waiting gcse results, she has applied for 13 jobs.

Maggie our guinea pig did not make it through the heat last week , poor thing was only 2years old. She was drinking an abnormal amount of water (600ml a day) and I was going to take her to the vets this week. DH fancies getting a rat now but think we will wait as got this lo on the way.

Last week of work

Hope you are all well, drink plenty all!

mabel1973 · 24/07/2006 13:17

just a quickie!
Lysettes - congrats - well done! Hope you are both ok. as someone else said makes it seem so real now!

Puppy - sorry to hear about your guinea-pig .

liquidclocks · 24/07/2006 13:18

Puppy - I did 'here's a bag of salad and and some pasties, help yourselves to crisps if you want'! - how you even managed hot food is beyond me!

Bella, I do hope you enjoy your NCT classes, I'm sure it'll be great for getting you all excited about LO arriving. Just take what they say with a pinch of salt and be that stubborn mule if you want to be Shame about your cot (and wardrobe and washer - poor you!) - is there time to get a new one still?, hope so!

Well, I can now manage all of 5 minutes sat on a dining/work chair so working from home today where I can perch on sofa with lap top. Physio just rang and said 'how's the maternity belt going?', I told her it's great I can now walk a bit further but the hip still hurts and she just said 'that's great, call me if you need me' and put the phone down, I think I might recommend she gets her hearing checked... I know she said she couldn't do anything but some sympathy would have been nice!

Bought some magicool on Saturday - it works! thanks to whoever recommended it

Bella23 · 24/07/2006 14:29

Puppy - sorry to hear about your giunea pig.
A rat ????!!!!!!!!! brave woman !!

Liquidlocks - how funny, obviously Physio has no bedside manner!! poor you though, you are doing the right thing, lots of rest.
yes Magicool is fab, think i shall invest in some more for my hospital bag.

pol26 · 24/07/2006 14:33

CONGRATULATIONS Lysettes on your little boy Jacob... I'm sure you are so so proud of him and yourself for hanging on so long with him. Well done!

It's still hot here but seemed to cool down during the night, I even thought about having a sheet over me!!! But today the sun is blazing again.

clairemow · 24/07/2006 14:51

Hi everyone,

haven't been on line for a few days, so took ages to catch up...

Congratulations Lysettes!!! I hope Jacob is ready to come home soon, and you manage to get some well deserved sleep in before that!

Calvemjoe, I've got to see my consultant next week (35 I think) re. elective c-section as well. Am also hoping that something they say will take the decision away from me.

Bella, my NCT friends the first time round are great, no anti-c-sectioners at all. In fact, out of 8 of us, there were 6 sections in the end! And one of us just had an elective for the second. Our teacher had bottle fed one child and breast fed the second, so I didn't feel any pressure from it at all. I hope your group are as nice.

I've been getting pains as well, a bit like having cystitis. And sometimes I wake up at night with pain all along the bottom of the bump - think it's muscle (or what's left of it) - but I can hardly move. Will be so glad when this baby is out!!

Feeling really really hot. We're at DH's Dad's and it's sweltering. I want to go home for that rain you mentioned Appyday! We had my firm's summer do yesterday afternoon, and DS was truly awful (!!) - it was so hot, we had to wake him up before he was ready really, and there were loads of things he wanted to go on and couldn't, like dodgems, a big slide, a simulator - he just got so frustrated and kept on crying, and then to top it off, the BBQ finished before I'd got him any food - and I was relying on it for his tea. Cue to leave...!!! Poor him, and poor DH and me, we were all stressed and hot by the time we left...

Appyday, I really like Noah's Ark farm near Bristol, don't know if you've been, but it's got loads of animals (rhinos, giraffe, llama, camels etc.), and a great indoor play area and hay barn to run about in. Bit expensive though (although not as bad as the zoo!). It's near Wraxall, the other side of the suspension bridge. Haven't been to Slimbridge yet, but keep meaning to go - bit afraid of DS eating lots of bird poo... Tasty...

appyday · 24/07/2006 23:00

Suppose I should really be in bed by now, but I had to have a quick read.
Lysettes congratulations, and all the best to Jacob.
Clairemow will maybe try Noahs Ark next week if its not too hot.Went to Bourton on the Water today and paddled up and down the freezing cold river. Heaven.
Cori, yes I felt the other day as if LO was trying to come out of my belly button. So uncomfortable and I also started thinking about Alien and checking for stretch marks I felt so tight. And yes I just want to get DD's birthday done on 13th Aug before anything happens.
Had a bout of sciatica yesterday, but it had gone when I got up this morning, Good job as DH has just ordered a skip so we can clear all the garden rubbish. Easy!

Bella23 · 25/07/2006 08:48

Morning

Appyday - a skip for garden rubbish ? Well make sure your DH does all the work young lady!!

Well first NCT class last night was great. Really friendly bunch of people so had a giggle. Nice to be in an environment where you can happily chat about pregnancy without fear that you are boring someone etc.
3 home births planned and 3 hospital births so a good mix.

Well its going to be another scorcher today - GREAT just what we need and then according to GMTV we are going to get rain.....YIPPEE, bring it one!!
Hope you all manage to stay cool xx

pol26 · 25/07/2006 13:41

Hello ladies

Well it's still hot here and feeling like i'm roasting!!!

And been feeling 'strange' as feeling I can't sit still and when i'm up feel like a pacing animal in a zoo- if that makes sense. Havce been sorting out post etc... We tend to have huge pile until it gets too much and then sort it all out and file it. But I have been feeling so so funny... Maybe it's my weird nesting instinct kicking in...

But as for feeling weird... DP has been so helpful today... I had a lie in until 10am... he had cut the grass... amused DD and then has been helping me tidy. He then annouced he would take DD into town before her sleep so I could do what I wanted as he knew I didn't want to be out in this heat. Feeling very pleased that he is helping but apprehensive as what does he want for all this 'good behaviour'...?!

appyday · 25/07/2006 15:09

Bella, envious of you going to NCT, nearest for me is about 12 miles, I don't drive and it's on dh's college night. We need a skip because there is a shed and 6 fir trees to go in before we start on the accumulated rubbish.
Too hot again today, couldn't even nap cos the sweat kept gathering in any available dip.
Just ordered a clip on buggy for DD,1st real admission that we're going to have 2 kids soon.DH wants me to get my bag sorted but I just can't get motivated and think about what I might need. I blame the heat.

Coriander73 · 25/07/2006 15:46

Anybody watch Corrie last night? Claire is going to crack soon!!!

I've feet like shrek this afternoon...nice! Yet more BH this mroning at 4am...when I'm having them I panic a little & think I'm not ready, I can't do this again etc etc but when they pass it's amazing how self confident I get & think it'll be a breeze...!!

DD has had a week of NO accidents at nursery.. Pooing has happened in the potty now on three occasions but she's still a little scared when it does happen. On Sunday I put her down for her nap only to hear her wimper, so I go upstairs & she's undone the nappy & is sitting in a very large poo...luckily she hadn't moved so I calmed her down, told her not worry & that was that. Apparently the HV says it's very normal for toddlers to feel scared by their bowels..all I can do is reassure her I suppose....

Woodelf · 25/07/2006 16:06

Congrats on the birth of baby Jacob Lysettes! . I guess the babies will come when they are good and ready - altho it feels as if my lo is trying to make a break for freedom as the belly feels so tight. My friend says I have a 'plastic belly' because it looks so unreal and roundy!

Not looking forward to trying to sleep tonite - I don't know how you guys with kids already cope - hugs and respect to you all!

clairemow · 25/07/2006 19:31

Oh god, when will it get cooler?? The Guardian yesterday said it would only be 25 degrees here, but boy were they wrong. It's well over 30. Someone told me today that it's set to continue hot until September. I might emigrate to the North Pole.

Nothing much here really, although I saw my friend's new baby today (born last week), and she is so tiny - I had forgotten how small newborns are. I'm only 5 or so weeks behind her, so better start actually getting a bag packed etc. etc. and a cot up...
