Shouldn't have mentioned the trickle of rain, for the last couple of hours the road has flooded in the torrent every 1/2hour or so and lots of thunder and lightning.Much cooler out now but keeping all windows closed, tried leaving them open during 1st flood and spent ages mopping up puddles that were 1/2 way into every room. Curtains also sopping wet as they were all sucked out the windows with the accompanying gale. Not even anyone here to share the humourous side of it with.

compo · 22/07/2006 18:37

Still really hot and humid in the SE today sad] Did have some rain in the night but it made no difference.
Re Child Trust Vouchers we put it in Children's Mutual . We were told at the time (2004) that it was the best one to go for but who knows. What vouchers do Natwest offer as that sounds good

homemama · 22/07/2006 20:03

Compo, we've gone with Natwest for the CTF. We haven't had the vouchers yet as we were a bit lazy in getting around to it but it's £250 pounds worth of vouchers for investing then we're getting another £250 of vouchers for making additonal contributions. We pay his child benefit money in there as it was earning no interest in his savings account.

We were quite torn actually as to whether to go for the stakeholder one or the middle risk one which moves it safer when the child is 13. I think we opted for the stakeholder because as well as being the safer option it also had more fixed fees.
I've heard the children's mutual is very good too in terms of performance.

Angeliz · 22/07/2006 20:26

We still haven't invested dd2's vouchers. You've reminded me actually i think i have about 3 months left.
DD1 missed out.
I always feel uncomfortable about it tbh as i don't want them having any money at 16 or 18 at their fingertips as it worries me too much. My older sister left home at 16 and we ddin't see her for 10 years so i guess that has worried me about teenagers and the thought of just IF we are shaky at the time and them getting money..........anyway, i am a worrier!

I get the pokey feelings, as if there's a stick being poked through my cervix saying 'i'm nearly ready'

Today and yesterday i have been exhausted!
I am not sleeping well at all, up with dd2 alot, to the loo, heartburn, vivid dreams. Also maybe it's cause i'm running round after a 5 and 1 year old all day and also i've never been pregnany in the heat before but i am SHATTERED!

On Coronation Street Claire had her baby and they said it was 3 weeks premature. Does that mean it was 35 weeks or 37 (as they say term is 38 weeks really don't they?)
I have a fear of having it now (35 weeks) and being stuck in hopspital away from my girls!! Or having to leave the baby.

I seriously need to chill out

Angeliz · 22/07/2006 20:27

I do TRY to keep up on here. Am i missing theior posts or have HellKat and KK not been on for ages??

Hope they're o.k!

mabel1973 · 22/07/2006 20:46

Angeliz - don't worry - what will be will be! I thought full term was 40 weeks, but I could be wrong?
Mandaz - I invested DS's voucher with Nationwide - it was one of the best at the time. Best thing to do is to go on to one of those independant financial websites to check out what's best.
Had some frineds over for the day today - really lovely to see them as we've not seen them in months. They have a DD who is 11 months, so not a little baby, but still much younger than DS and he was very good with her and gave her lots of kisses and wasn't too over zealous with his cuddles, shared and played nicely. I felt very proud of him! We went out for a walk though and got caught in the thunderstorm at about 4pm! it was mad!
roads flooded everywhere!

Coriander73 · 22/07/2006 22:05

For what it's worth we invested DD's CCV at Barclays. I reckon they are all much the muchness...

Angeliz, don't worry...when LO is ready it'll be here so just make sure you're bag is ready & away you go!!

We had 5 mins of rain this morning & no sooner has the atmosphere cleared then the heat, humidity & muggy feelings all come back...didn't know whether to laugh or cry quite frankly....Appyday, can we all come down where you are?!!! LET'S ALL DO A RAIN DANCE...

I've not had any red hot poker feelings or the like but today the baby (I'm assuming this is what's happened) has had it's back pressing right up against my belly button so much so it's just not moved & has really be quite painful (strangely so). I've tried pushing it away or at least attempting that it shifts a bit & no luck! It's so uncomfortable..perhaps it'll shift tonight? I've also had a few comments this afternoon from complete strangers that I've obviously dropped & gosh, surely I meant the 15th August when I was due not the 15th Sep?!! What is it with people & their gobs?! I don't personally think I'll go until the 15th but as long as we can get DD & her 2nd bday out the way on the 4th then I don't care really...!!!

Marls001 · 23/07/2006 03:58

Hi all! Homemama, thanks for explanations ...

It's definitely different (much hotter) this year over here in US too; read today that in St. Louis, Missouri (about 5 hours' drive from here) there are 475,000 people without power (55% of the city) and older folks are dying left and right, stuck in homes without A/C.

If it makes y'all feel any better though, our week-long heat wave has now moved on; yours may be leaving v. soon too ... had barbeque outdoors again today and it was lovely weather; no sweating.

Pol - sounds very strange, what you're feeling. I can't remember if i felt that way last time, but do remember how v. strange it feels to walk around dilated and effaced.

I must be neither, because I have felt more energetic and normal lately. Almost feels like the second trimester again. Maybe this means DS2 will be late. Mom is waiting until Dr. has checked me on Tuesday to make airline reservations ...

Told recently by book group that I was "all baby," and have I gained 20 pounds? Now, that's the right thing to say to a pg woman. It's 32 pounds and yes, I have gone up two sizes everywhere else ... but still, felt good.

Hoping Dr. really will be able to tell about when the actual date will be ... we have no options for DS1's care other than my Mom, and would hate to have to be induced or otherwise mess with the baby's own timeline due to scheduling her arrival/departure.

compo · 23/07/2006 09:34

Morning everyone. I'm having vivid dreams too and can't get to sleep. I'm panicking about when I actually go into labour as my mum is a 3 hour drive away. When I mentioned it to the midwife she said 'oh, it might all be over by then'. Dh says if I go into labour in the middle of the night we'll wake ds up and take him with us but tbh I'd rather just go on my own and know that ds is safe and happy with dh. Dh won't even consider missing the birth though. Also if I think I'm in labour and my mum comes, books hotel etc, and then nothing hapens for another week I'll feel terrible. Does anyone else have these worries?!! I can't be thinking all this for the next 8 weeks - it will drive me insane!!

Hey all,

Despite the trickle of rain yesterday and the slight cooling we are now back up to full force heat again! And DP decided to invite his nephew to stay last night so no sleeping 'au naturel' as I like to have the door open and the wind- what little there is breezing right through... So I was even hotter!!! And DD was awake at 4:30am wanting to get up! I can honestly say I haven't ever prayed for rain quiet so much.

And last night to top it all off my 'what-not' was really painful and hurting as I laid and turned in bed... Really felt as if some one had chopped me in two with an axe.

But on the bonus side, only just got up, as punishment for DP invited nephew- not that usually I would mind but have been really knackered with heat just lately and DP had told him I was going to cook a roast!!! (We were going to have chicken with rice and salad but nephew doesn't eat salad or rice or chips) So there I was in this heat with the oven blazing out... Still as I said only just got up and DP has taken DD to take nephew back so home alone and had a cold shower in peace! Hurrah!

muminaquandary · 23/07/2006 09:44

compo - what was your last birth like? If it's usually quicker 2nd time but your first was slow / overdue, maybe you don't need to worry so much?

Obviously DS needs to be looked after, but is there anyone you can ask to babysit for 3 hours while your mum is on her way? (neighbour, nursery assistant, friend?? maybe get the number of an emergency nanny or babysiting service just in case ...) otherwise you will all have to go in together and DH and DS will just have to cope!!

pol26 · 23/07/2006 09:45

Cori- total sympathise with trying to get 1st childs birthday out of the way before we pop... my DD's is on my due date (18th) and my sisters kids all are September babies (twins 4th and her DD 19th) Trying to do all birthdays this year as only been to her DD's once and she'll be 4 this year as each time i've had a crisis... (her 2nd I had just given birth the day before and mean hopspital wouldn't let me out).
Trying desperately to either get baby a week before my DD or at least a day later so DD can have some sort of a party although we went all out last year and aren't this year at all just family and close friends.
p.s... Would prefer the week before bubba if you're listening!

compo · 23/07/2006 09:46

Hi miaq
First birth was on due date - labour pains all night at home and baby born 7.44pm next day so I guess that would have given me enough time to get mum here. I do have one friend who has said she'd hlp, although she's going on holiday in September!! Don't know the neighbours (students), could investigate employing someone but very skint!! I guess I should just relax and see what happens...

dreamydowler · 23/07/2006 09:47

good morning compo have you given any thought to hiring a doula or having a homebirth its not too late to ask for one now and if you have a doula aswell there will always be someone on hand to help you and be there for your little one. Perhaps if there is a netmum close by she could help out or if you have a good friend or neighbour that could watch ds until your mum arrives I had to do this when I lived a three hour drive from my mum I had a list of friends and neighbours I could ask and my mum always came as soon as I phoned her.

muminaquandary · 23/07/2006 09:51

good idea to try to get a netmum to help altho I am sure you would want to meet her first etc

otherwise if you are skint can you get a homebirth and you won't need to worry about DS?

just trying to think of some more options ... local childcare college, find student to come in once per day around due date for an hour or so then maybe you could call on them in emergency?

dreamydowler · 23/07/2006 10:07

I know what you mean about weather pol just looked at 5 day forecast for cheshire and heatwave set to continue with 36c by thursday. I cant stand this any more Ive decided to look up the coolest place in the country and go and stay there until baby is born. My dp asked if we could have cabbage with todays sunday roast wrong thing to say to a hot and bothered 8 month pregnant woman especially as he came home drunk last night. I too am worried about missing some crucial dates around time baby is due my due date is 30th august but as baby is big I could go early. Its my eldest daughters 18th and a level results day exactly 2 weeks earlier on 17th august so i cant go then my other daughter gets her gcse results on 24th august its dp birthday on 21st august. Then if I go in september of course children are back to school and dd has a home visit from new nursery teacher on 13th my sons birthday is on 12th and dd starts new nursery on 14th Im hoping baby will be around about due date as it is safest option. Hi miaq glad you are on this thread too

muminaquandary · 23/07/2006 10:18

dreamy - you are one busy lady!!!! luckily I don't have the roast problems as we have all agreed we are having salads, cheese, bread, ham and if any meat needs done DH is doing it as gets me too hot ... !

dreamydowler · 23/07/2006 10:27

thats all my lot are getting to be honest salads pittas and kebabs its too hot for anything else

muminaquandary · 23/07/2006 10:31

I am sure they prefer that anyway

just did an online supermarket shop and didn't buy ANY meat (we do have some in the freezer just in the case tho..)

mandaz · 23/07/2006 15:11

Thanks for the feedback on the vouchers. I think I may go for the Natwest one. I agree that all banks are pretty similar so I guess if I can get some free stuff out of it I might as well! I believe that the vouchers are for days out etc.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing the consultant next week as I haven't got the faintest idea which way round LO is! Most of the 'kicks' have been lower down but I've had the odd one in the ribs too. I also keep getting a bulge on one side of my tummy where LO appears to be sticking its bottom up which is quite uncomfortable. I actually feel like I know very little compared to a lot of you ladies! Apart from my due date I've been given no idea as to whether LO is the right size/big/small or whether its in the right position etc. I think I'll be taking a list of questions in with me!

The weather is nice here now, warm but breezy. I think we're having a BBQ tonight so it'll be nice to get some fresh air. Hope everyones enjoying the weekend

ezridax · 23/07/2006 15:34

Bella 23 - sorry took so long to reply but lol! yes it was the Tyra Banks show

Lysettes · 23/07/2006 18:48

Hey everyone!

Sorry for the radio silence. Was let out of hospital on Thursday night after.................Jacob Alexander born on 14th July

DS was born at 32+2 after pre eclamspia escalated in the afternoon. Emergency c-section which is ironic after i was desperate not to have an epidural unless i really needed it if I could be induced!

He is in the neonatal unit and will be in there for probably four more weeks. He's 33+5 now and he will be in till at least 37 weeks.

Milk is slow coming in, but we are getting there I think, and it's amazing how tired I am even without baby at home.

It's tough leaving him every night, but he is in the best place and is getting stronger and bigger every day.

If anyone wants to know anything about having a section or an epidural just ask!

Also am happy to tell you all anything you want about pre-eclampsia as there is so little information out there and it is incredibly dangerous if not managed properly.

Anyway, thought you'd like to know our news, and I'll be back online now

lol

calvemjoe · 23/07/2006 19:02

Hey everyone, hope you're all feeling a little better today now it's a bit cooler. Can't believe I'm having a baby in 6 weeks. It's just gone so quickly and I'm not ready at all.

I'm seeing the consultant on tues to discuss vbac again but I keep having dreams that lo is breech and so the decision is taken out of my hands, and I think that would be really nice.

Took ds swimming this morning and he cut all of his little toes on sharp tiles on the pool floor. He was feeling so sorry for himself and kept on telling everyone that mummy had put 'magic plasters' on them with big sad eyes. Now I'm at work fretting because he was so sad when I left him and he needs his mummy to be with him (or mummy needs to be there, not sure which )

lo keeps sitting on a nerve I think and it is agony. Shooting pain through my back, buttock and top of my thigh. Keep stopping, in public, and holding my bum but it comes and goes so at least it's not constant.

Keep looking after those (very big) bumps x

calvemjoe · 23/07/2006 19:05

Congratulations Lysettes on the safe arrival of Jacob Alexander, a lovely name.

Hope you have a speedy recovery from the section and your little man is home soon x

homemama · 23/07/2006 20:15

Wow! Congratulations, Lysettes on the safe arrival of Jacob Alexander! You must be thrilled not to be stuck in bed anymore. Hope you're recovering well from your section.
