bionic congrats!. Your children's response had me pmsl (and now must get up & wee!!)

MummyPig24 · 29/08/2013 07:21

Morning all. So pleased to hear of all the good scans. It really makes me feel happy. But I'm also surprised there's been no twins yet.

Where have the disappeared posters gone? Makes me a little worried for them.

Dh has got up with the kids this morning, given them breakfast and put the tv on for them. Don't know what's got into him but I like it!

OwlinaTree · 29/08/2013 07:49

Glad we have more successful scan results, hooray! Funny to think of all these little babies growing in sync.

Got to start to prepare for wedding of the year today, already had hair done. Tried on dress I bought in April for another wedding and it seems to fit, fx for no bloating on the day. Staying at mil from tonight till wedding on sat, seems to be away from home I get more bloated, but I guess by sat word will have spread that we are preggo so if I look massive at least I'll have an excuse!

commsgirl · 29/08/2013 08:07

Morning ladies.

Congrats to everyone who had scans yesterday. So exciting :)

lumpylumps · 29/08/2013 08:17

Speaking as a hcp, yes, the bmi isn't always accurate but we have to have some way of measuring our patients risk factors. If it highlights a risk either way, there are guidelines that need to be followed. I've got to have an extra growth scan at 32 weeks cos mines 17. The fact that ds2 was 8lb doesn't matter. This is a whole new pregnancy. I was asked if there was a history of eating disorders and was given dietary advice. Wasted on me because this is just the way I am but I might be anorexic and unless they monitor it they don't know. Rather than see these things as negative see it that you're being looked after in the best way. If they missed something, their jobs and lives are on the line and it my put a baby or mum at risk.

Sorry for sounding preachy but we're damned if we do and damned if we don't in health care!!!

HamwidgeAlive · 29/08/2013 08:19

Finding it hard to keep up! I had my scan on Sunday, baby was absolutely fine, so pleased! Baby was being a stubborn moo though and wouldn't uncurl or face the right way to be measured. I had to run and jump and was rescanned but baby was refusing to budge. So I'll have to go back for another scan in a couple of weeks. My EDD was 4th March, mw reckoned 5th, early scan said 1st March and this scan said 25th Feb! So gawd knows when baby is actually due.

Bionic your DC reactions made me laugh!

We read "there's a house in my mummy" to DS but he says he doesn't like it. And keeps acting like a baby and saying he's a baby so I think he must be worried.

fruitpastille · 29/08/2013 08:59

Hamwidge your dates are almost identical to mine! My lmp was 29th May which gave me EDD of 4th March which has been changed to 26th Feb baeed on scan. I mauy argue a bit about this though as I have a pretty regular cycle. I had to jump up and down at my scan too.

I am joining the crumpet obsessives, just had 2 for breakfast and I am annoyed that dd now wants one. They are mine!

Bousy · 29/08/2013 09:06

So pleased to hear about all the scan news Smile

Thanks for advice on taking DD to our 12 week scan. She was actually there at the scan in previous pregnancy which confirmed a mc - well, in the waiting room - and never suspected a thing, amazing how 'coping' instincts kick in. Fortunately a very kind friend has dropped everything to help us out with childcare, quite a relief!

Can also relate to food cravings - I can't get enough gherkins and have resorted to eating chutney out of the jar Blush - such a pregnancy cliche!

Best wishes to everyone having scans in the next few days.

rescoonetwothree · 29/08/2013 09:09

sorry lumpy and this isn't personal, but for me the reason all this has annoyed me is that i am more than happy to be asked the questions and answer them, it is more the way i have then been told I'm wrong on a few occasions now when i'm letting people know facts about myself. it isn't personal against your profession, but i have found that almost everyone i have personally come across throughout this whole thing has been like this and i would appreciate being made to feel like an actual person and stand by that for them to be able to give me the most appropriate etc care i need to be listened to when i am telling someone the answers they need and common sense needs to be used in conjunction.

have we got any scans today?!

hope everyone who has gone awol is ok xx

faithfulandtruthful · 29/08/2013 09:11

Bionic and Lamb I thought I was writing about my scan late! I so glad everyone had a good scan. Bionic you made me smile about your big reveal to your kids. Love the fact you filmed it!

Moosey, *Prambo has her dating scan and I have a scan at the clinic at 10+4 to check all is well. Anymore for anymore?!

Jolleigh · 29/08/2013 09:15

Lumpy - I'm certainly not arguing the fact that it will be a factor in my health care...I'd be hugely concerned if my weight was ignored. But my BMI calculation shouldn't determine whether or not I'm treated like an adult. The midwife was horrible after she worked it out. Lovely before hand.

Rockchick1984 · 29/08/2013 09:18

Grey I suppose the problem with that is that although you have common sense and can tell them accurately that you eat plenty, some people have a skewed version that they seem to convince themselves of. My best friend trots out the "Olympic athletes are obese" line on a regular basis, and is convinced she eats healthily, despite regular take aways, no exercise, cooking everything in butter (from veggies to bacon) and flat-out refuses to see that actually for her, obesity is due to her diet. There's no excuse for them telling you you're wrong though, otherwise why ask you the questions???

I think I'm a bit weird - the thought of crumpets and pop tarts makes me feel sick! A packet of quavers seems to be settling my tummy nicely for breakfast lately Blush

MummyPig24 · 29/08/2013 09:20

I'm sorry some of you have ha bad experiences related to being under/over weight. My midwife didn't seem concerned at all, I'm the same weight as last time I fell pregnant and it wasn't mentioned then either.

I've concluded that if I eat breakfast, I feel sick. If I don't eat breakfast. I feel sick. Surely this should be getting better, not worse? I feel constantly nauseous and bloated.

Rockchick1984 · 29/08/2013 09:20

X posts Jol I'd probably have asked her outright "sorry, didn't realise my weight affected your behaviour"!

PiratesMam · 29/08/2013 09:51

Mummypig I have concluded the same re: breakfast. Should be over the hump by 13 weeks surely?! Sad

PramQueen1971 · 29/08/2013 09:51

Who on earth is Bionicear?

PramQueen1971 · 29/08/2013 09:52

Nurses are the fattest fucks on earth.

PramQueen1971 · 29/08/2013 09:52

Thinking of you, Marbie & Moosy xx

rescoonetwothree · 29/08/2013 09:52

rock no i know what you mean completely, i honestly don't mind people making sure and same as joll would be seriously worried if they didnt bother even checking, i was made to feel like i was ill or something by the lady and i wasn't being listened to when giving the information she wanted!

and as an adult i feel like my word should be taken on board rather than being made to feel like what I'm saying isn't valid, especially when it's well known that bmi calculation isn't 100% reliable and i look healthy and am obviously very small framed in general!

my best friend is the same height as me and if i was to be her weight i would look pretty large, and if she was my weight she would look emaciated because our builds are so different. there is two stone difference in our weights, but neither of us look overweight or underweight!

commsgirl · 29/08/2013 09:53

It is frustrating when you know your own body. I'm a size 10 but with massive boobs, which pushes my bmi to the top of the normal range. I've had a GP tell me 'we don't give the pill to overweight people' and I've also had one ask me about my diet / exercise and then tell me he didn't believe me as I 'sounded too healthy for my bmi.'

But I also appreciate that they get people sitting there in complete denial so have to take a one size fits all approach to a certain extent.

Good luck today Maybs and Pram. I love hearing all these happy scan stories. Less than a week until mine now!

rescoonetwothree · 29/08/2013 09:55

good luck today maybe and prammy (don't forget the pics ahhhh!)

eurgh breakfast.

Jolleigh · 29/08/2013 10:00

NoMaybeAboutIt · 29/08/2013 10:12

Thanks you lovely lot x

MummyPig24 · 29/08/2013 10:17

I don't know pirates but this pregnancy is hitting me hard. I've managed to get a fair bit of housework done this morning but I'm so tired and feel sick. Kids are parked in front of the tv eating their snacks.
