I'm going to boots at lunch to get some folic acid. Feel really miffed with myself that I wasn't taking it before but obviously I couldn't have known!

Is it worth taking some kind of pregnancy vitamin too or is folic acid enough?

Hi, I am panicking right now. sorry for tmi, but I need advice. I just went to the loo and noticed a couple of brown spots. Its not fresh but definitely spots. Should I call someone, should I wait a bit? I am so scared something is going wrong. Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad

cookielove · 09/08/2013 12:31

lee if it were me I would call my gp or my local epu!!

Fairypants · 09/08/2013 12:32

It's probably just old blood being displaced due to growth but I'd go to mw for reassurance - you'll prob get an early scan to reassure you.

Trinpy · 09/08/2013 12:43

As the others have said , Lee go to the nearest epu and ask for an ultrasound. As long as it's old blood then it's likely to be completely normal and nothing to worry about. How many weeks are you?

Ninunina · 09/08/2013 13:12

Hi Lee, it's probably just implantation bleeding. I had some brown bleeding when I was 9 weeks pregnant and a scan confirmed implantation. Call GP for a referral to the EPU, or better still go to a walk-in EPU. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

LeeHandy · 09/08/2013 13:31

Hi Everyone, thank you for the reassuring messages. I hope it is just implantation. I didn't know it happened at this time though. I will try and read up on it as well.
I have called the GP and like you said, he asked me to go to the epu for a scan. My hospital only does it in the mornings and he seemed to think it was fine if I waited until Monday to do it.
I think I won't be able to relax at all though until then.

LeeHandy · 09/08/2013 14:18

Trinpy I will be 7 weeks tomorrow.

A lot of people online seem to have had this between 7 and 9 weeks. I hope it's just implantation. Feeling slightly less panicked now.

cookielove · 09/08/2013 14:29

Sorry I don't mean to be thick or worry anyone, but I thought the baby would have already implanted?

Trinpy · 09/08/2013 14:38

There are other reasons besides implantation why there might be bleeding. At 7 weeks I would have thought implantation bleeding was unlikely though?

Goldenhandshake · 09/08/2013 14:46

Hi all, can I join you? my EDD is 1st April. I have just been on the general pregnancy thread having a right old whinge about how shitty I feel, and it was suggested I'd get sympathy here Smile

bunnygoesbang · 09/08/2013 15:18

You can have lots of sympathy from us all golden. This is a very planned pregnancy and a miracle so I am over the moon. However I feel like crap lol

I think it's too late for implantation bleed but at this point 6-9 weeks the placenta is forming and the embryo is imbedding deeper into the endometrium so this can trigger small bleeds.

I wouldn't worry about spotting. I had tons last time. If you get a lot of pain then go to a and e otherwise try to relax (impossible I know)

tinkerboosmum · 09/08/2013 15:19

Hi choc,

Sorry to hear that you are being so sick not much fun. I just feel nauseous and bloated atm which is a bit of a pain but a good sign I think. Smile Still can't really believe it as we hadn't been trying although i've always secretly hoped for a 3rd, i'd come to accept that it would probably not happen so i'm keeping my fingers crossed that all will progress nicely and be ok.
We are away when I reach 10 weeks so not sure if I will see midwife early or when we get back for first bloods etc. Dees anyone know the cut off point for nuchal scan? They didn't offer it on nhs when I was last pregnant so I am pleased that this has changed.

Trinpy · 09/08/2013 15:39

hi golden! I think mist if us feel like crap so youre in good company Grin .

I spoke to my gp today and they won't give me an early scan but they are dating me from the day I've mc, putting me forward 2 more weeks into my pregnancy - so 7+3 rather than 5+3. They tend to do dating scans at 10 weeks round here so I may end up having my first scan when I'm only 8 weeks! GP said if it turns out to be too early then they will just rescan a couple of weeks later. I've got my booking-in appointment on Monday so will get some clarification from the mw then. Very exciting though!

Goldenhandshake · 09/08/2013 15:44

Thank you for the warm welcome, this was also a very much planned for baby, so I feel a bit guilty whingeing already. It is just so different to my first pregnancy with DD it's coe as a huge shock.

With DD I had quite bad sickness, went off food and was a bit tired, but coped pretty wella nd often felt better after being sick.

This time around I am queasy and nauseous all day without often being sick, every couple of days or so. I also keep getting painful trapped wind, bloating, and swing between constipation and diarrhea. Oh and heartburn alost every night, couple with crippling tiredness.

Working full time then going home to an almost 5 year old while feeling like this is proving to all be a bit too much!

coffeewineandchocolate · 09/08/2013 15:58

so I'm having little crampy feelings this afternoon (4w+3). im hoping its just stretching but my toddler ds managed to body slam me and knee me in the womb area this afternoon... no bleeding so far...

Ninunina · 09/08/2013 15:59

I had thought that 7-9 weeks is to late for implantation bleeding too, but apparently sometimes the blood remains in the womb and forms a sort of bruise and is eventually cleared out. With my last pregnancy they could see the "bruise" on the scan at 6 weeks. 3 weeks later it came out and the sonographer referred to it as implantation bleeding.

LeeHandy · 09/08/2013 16:41

I think it can also be the placenta anchoring into place and that's sometimes called implantation. It's been a few hours and I haven't had any more, so I am hoping that's the end of it. Getting the scan on Monday will be very reassuring though. Fingers crossed.

boldlittlebird · 09/08/2013 16:42

Hello ladies! Can I join your thread?

I'm 5+3, first pregnancy, don't have a due date from the doctor yet (can't get an appointment within 3 weeks at our surgery!) but guessing early April.

This one snuck up on me - we've been trying for 6 months and I'd had 2 CPs previously and thought I could tell when I was pg, so when CD 26 came and went with no sore breasts and no tiredness, I resigned myself to no baby. By CD 31 I was wondering why my period wasn't turning up when I'd had period cramps for 3 days, and thinking 'Wow, work is really stressing me out, I feel sick' Grin

BFP arrived 3 days after I'd decided to hand my notice in at work, which has been so horrible I've wanted to quit for a year - I was holding out for security & maternity leave reasons, but then last week thought 'F* it, nothing's worth this' - and voila, positive test! Isn't it always the way Smile Still, I'm so excited about our baby and wouldn't change any of it.

So I'm starting a new job in 3 weeks, hoping that I'll be able to cover up any vomming/forgetfulness/tiredness and that my new employer won't freak out when I tell him!

Symptoms are just starting to turn up: feel nauseous for a few hours every day, breasts sore, crampiness. Oh, and cigarettes and perfume smell

REALLY strong.

Trinpy · 09/08/2013 16:49

hi boldlittlebird and congratulations. I'm 5+3 too, so your due date must be the same as mine - 8th April. Sorry to hear about your CPs. I got my bfp on my last day in my old job - like you I'd been sticking it out for the maternity pay for so long. Good luck in the new job!

boldlittlebird · 09/08/2013 18:07

Ah, thanks for the due date tip trinpy!

Reassuring to hear you have the same job situation as me, it's always nice to meet someone in the same boat! Smile I hope it goes really well for you.

If we all waited for the perfect time to act, nothing would ever get done Grin
