Hello shiny new thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
twirliedobbit · 16/07/2013 08:41

Oooo I have my 41 week midwife appt today, wonder if she will do a sweep? I've never had one (waters have gone all three times with others) not sure I want to though!
I am meant to be going out for dinner tonight for a friends b day, not sure if it's a good idea or not, I tend to be very uncomfortable in the evenings, I guess I'll just see how it goes, they are def the type of friends who would understand me not going/leaving early etc.
Totally sorry you had a bad night, hope you managed to get some sleep? Otherwise, make sure you give yourself a day off today and try to sleep when baby sleeps.

40+4 - don't like these numbers creeping up Sad

MightBeMad · 16/07/2013 08:57

Morning all. Hope the night got better totally!

Congrats on the birth thinking. Sounds perfect (other than being at term +14!!)

Congrats to all the new arrivals (I'm struggling to keep up a bit so apologies for lack of personals).

Much sympathy with the over due ladies. Fingers crossed things get going soon.

I just has a strange experience with a lovely golden retriever in the street - she was out for a walk with her owner but once they'd caught up with me ahead if them (I move very slowly these days!) she refused to pass me and wanted to stay by my side; when I stopped so did she. I wonder if she knows something I don't....

MightBeMad · 16/07/2013 08:58

Should say, 38+4, so not even due yet.

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/07/2013 09:03

The spider made another appearance, but is still running wild on the bedroom. No sign of him this morning.
The rest of the night was otherwise uneventful apart from a big milky vom all over me, but I'm getting used to those.
Lots of laundry this morning....

I hope those of you still pregnant & struggling with the heat see some action soon.

VinegarDrinker · 16/07/2013 09:09

Erm, B went 6 hours between feeds last night.! (I am 99% certain, although we co-sleep so v slim possibility I fed her without fully waking up) Obviously it was amazing to have that much sleep although my boobs were like boulders at 5am but should I be waking her? She's 2 weeks today. I think DS1 was well over 1 before he ever went that long overnight so it's all alien to me! She did feed absolutely loads in the day yesterday - hourly at least. And is catching up this morning!

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/07/2013 09:11

Ooh MightBe! Maybe it's a sign!!

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/07/2013 09:13

Wow, Vinegar! I think I'd leave her. DD1 was well over a year old before she slept for over 5 hours...

VinegarDrinker · 16/07/2013 09:17

Yup, same here. I think at this age and for the first 6 months or so DS would only sleep with a nipple actually in his mouth.... Hmm Obviously I've tempted fate by mentioning it now!

MrsMillions · 16/07/2013 09:24

Hello! Long time no see! I've been a bit busy with my newborn DD and not even had a chance to lurk.

She arrived last Monday with a little help from forceps. We were in hospital until Weds with neither wifi nor 3G signal, but into the swing of things at home now.

My DPs came to visit at the weekend (staying at a hotel 5 mins away). Mum arrived bearing champagne and chocolate cake, just perfect! Got a bit emotional with them here, with both happiness and relief.

PILs coming this weekend and we got very close to WW3 sorting that out. All seems to be focused on their need to see DD with no recognition of either what the birth might have done to me or our need for a bit of space to get to know each other. Really didn't understand why they couldn't stay here (and there'll be 3 of them due to SIL). DH has been very straight with them and supportive of me though, so that's good.

Got to go now but for the stats list... DD Abigail, 8/7/13, 7lb1oz.

PS she had very long fingernails so we have actually used MIL's baby emery boards!

Persuasion · 16/07/2013 09:29

Baby Felicity born 14th July (40+11) weighs 6lb 12oz. Came home same day. Sorry for so long AWOL I've been somewhat distracted!

I've just managed to catch up with everyone, congrats to all others with new babies, or was obviously a busy weekend for labour wards!

phie I just wanted to reassure you that for me induction was fine. Labour started by pessary and lots of walking. I got to 7cm with just paracetamol and breathing/relaxation. Then just some gas.

Full story will follow but she's just woken up hungry...

VinegarDrinker · 16/07/2013 09:32

Awww congratulations to the new arrivals!

MightBeMad · 16/07/2013 09:41

Congratulations persuasion and mrs millions!!! Hope the inlaws are a bit more sensitive when they arrive mrs m, and glad dh is fighting your corner. I think people who've never experienced a difficult delivery can't quite understand how debilitated you can feel for a long time afterwards (I think some of the ladies on this thread are experiencing it the other way around - having had a difficult first delivery they can't believe how well they feel this time around). Maybe when they see you they'll understand?

Vinegar - amazing sleep!! As long as she's otherwise well, no temp, plenty of wet and dirty nappies and no jaundice, I'd let her get on with it and thank your lucky stars Grin

IcingTheCake · 16/07/2013 09:51

Congratulations persuasion and mrsmillions Grin

Isn't it strange how our parents forget what its like with a new baby? My mil has asked me to make her DS a cake for his birthday on 11th August, not just a normal cake, a complicated decorated one! Its only 3 weeks after my due date, so if im late i could have a week old newborn! Funnily enough i declined that one, even after the offer for her to look after my breastfeeding and brand new baby all day! Grin

dinkystinky · 16/07/2013 10:31

congrats Persuasion and MrsMillions on the safe arrivals of your dds - they both have lovely names and hope life as a family of 3 is going well now you are home. MrsMilions - I had a really difficult time after ds1s birth and it was hard for my parents and inlaws to understand until they actually saw me. Hopefully pils will be understanding when they arrive. On the plus side, I can guarantee things do get better and easier v v soon. Glad the emery boards came in handy.

Vinegar -- ds1 used to go for 5 hour stretches at night at 2 weeks after cluster feeding loads. Id say leave them unless youre worried about the heat and enjoy it while it lasts!

Mightbe - apparently animals can sense all sorts!

MarieKL · 16/07/2013 11:55

Hi All, Sorry I haven't posted for so long. Congratulations on all the new arrivals and thank you to everyone who's shared their birth stories as well. I've really enjoyed reading them. I'm also enjoying hearing all the names. Lovely to hear from Shiv as well.

All those who are still pg have my greatest sympathy. I hope you're managing to keep cool and your LO arrives soon.

Big hugs to all those having trouble with in laws and/or parents. I hope the reality is better than the envisaged problems, or those overstaying their welcome etc get the hint soon.

We've had an amazing 11 days with our LO and his big brother, and I'm in a much better place than I was this time with DS1. Due to a bad experience iwith DS1 I've been formula feeding since day 2 but hormones have plummeted and given my milk has come in I feel rotten for not even trying so Following a night of tears because I felt so bad I have now decided to give BF ago with the hope that I can at least combination feed going forward. At the very least it gives me a good excuse to curl up with Alex and catch up on MN!

sending cool thoughts and birthing vibes to all those still with bumps and congratulations and calm to all everyone with LO.

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/07/2013 13:21

Congratulations MrsMillions & Persuasion!

MarieKL it's great that you're going to give BF a go now your milk has come in, but don't feel bad for not trying right from the start - its hard work and even with all the effort in the world it just doesn't work out for some people. If you had a bad experience before then I'm not surprised that with the hormones on top of a bad history you used formula on day 2 - I think that's the hardest day both physically & emotionally. I think you need a lot of determination and luck to BF successfully in a lot of cases. All we can do is try.

twirliedobbit · 16/07/2013 13:31

Wow lots more babies and all with lovely names, what good taste you all have.
Marie, well done for giving bf-ing another go, but don't beat yourself up about it either way, happy babies and happy mummies are the most important thing.

So just back from mw who couldn't believe I wasn't in labour as head is so low she couldn't feel it! She did a sweep, which was a little uncomfortable but now I am home it's really hurting, I feel like I am about to give birth without contractions, is that possible?!! Honestly feels like I am walking around with a baby half hanging out!
Just hope if anything happens that I get enough warning going to take at least 2 hours to get dh home and get us to hospital. Fingers crossed something happens soon....

Persuasion · 16/07/2013 14:27

So here's the story: they put in the pessary at 6:30 Saturday as planned and with lots of walking and ball bouncing I was having mild contractions 3 in ten minutes by evening when DH went home. By 11 pm I was having 4 in 10 and had some paracetamol but was only 1cm. They got lots more intense but I really went into myself until at 3am I couldn't cope and suddenly felt like I was pushing! I told the somewhat surprised midwife who examined me and I was 7cm. Got rushed straight to labour ward and she was delivered at 6:40. I used a little gas and air but don't think it did much beyond give me something to bite on!

vinegar I also seem to have a sleepy baby who goes 4 hours between feeds. The midwife suggested I wake her up after 3 until my milk comes in and is a bit established.

totally I hope you got some more sleep. You did make me giggle though, I feel much better knowing others are also having body fluid explosions. On Sunday night we had a meconium explosion, while I was changing her she then peed everywhere and vomited simultaneously. Nothing to do but laugh really!

ReikiMummy · 16/07/2013 15:40

Hi Everyone.... just caught up with the thread...

Still here... still pg... have loved it and so am a bit :( at the prospect of not being pg... but then will have a lovely cuddly new baby so yeah... a bit up and down and all over the place today.

Aches and pains in lower back, lower tummy, and down below for past few days... Sent Asked DP and DM to go shopping... feel a bit like I want people around - but also want my own space too....!!

Congratulations to all the new arrivals....

And a big... "We're nearly there!" to everyone still in the innings!

RM x

Shockingundercrackers · 16/07/2013 17:48

Hello all... It's me,specialknickers. I've not posted here for aaaaages, but I've been lurking plenty. I was trying to limit MN addiction activity but fuck it, I've cracked and re-registered.

I literally can not believe how many people have had their babies already. Congratulations to everyone. Lovely birth stories and some fabulous names (persuasion, i'm gunning for a Felicity too if this little one's a girl, it's my mums name and has such a lovely meaning). I was due on the 9th, (11th on the list, which was my guesstimate, but clearly more accurate than the sonographer's). This is DC2 for me, so was hoping for an early one this time, but i'm a week over now with an induction booked for next Tuesday, I guess they come when they're ready. Been having lots of sharp pains, BHs and backache or weeks. I've stopped thinking "maybe this is it!" now and just try to ignore the discomfort.

How are all the innies coping in this heat? I'm absolutely wilting, it's regularly hitting 30 here and no sign of abating. Haven't taken DS to the park for over a week (nowhere to sit in the shade) so I'm feeling very guilty about that. Also getting a bit Angry at people openly staring at my enormo-bump as I waddle down the street. There's nothing to hide under in these horribly stretched summer clothes!

photographerlady · 16/07/2013 18:00

Hi ladies. How's the Fed Up Bunch doing? I slept in today and haven't felt like doing anything. Now curry takeaway on its way and still sulking. My feet are gigantic, I'm exhausted and have give up on today.

Congratulations persuasion and mrs millions

dinkystinky · 16/07/2013 18:23

Welcome back Reikimummy and Shockingundercrackers (nice variation on theme there Wink) - hope your little one decides to come soon Shockingundercrackers, it sounds like you're body has been warming up for the big event. I recall well the people staring at the enormobump days.

The heat is really quite something - its 34 degrees in our bedroom at present, which is just ridiculous. Jackson and I went for a walk this morning before it got too hot and have been camping out in our lounge with the shades down for most of the rest of the day. I like the sun but its abit too hot out there at the moment. On the plus side our parasol arrived today for the backgarden - it will be DH's job to put it together tonight when he gets back from work.

dinkystinky · 16/07/2013 18:27

MarieKL - good luck with the bfing. Kellymom.com and www.drjacknewman.com are 2 really good bf sites I found which helped alot. Have you looked into peer supporters/lactation consultants in your area? I found with DS1 and again with Jackson that having the right support at the right time can make a world of difference.

Twirlie - that sounds pretty uncomfortable though hopefully means the baby will be coming soon. I think Schro had a similar experience - her waters went quite early on with DS2 as a result but labour didnt kick in for a bit afterwards. However, everyone's birth story is different as our bodies are all so different so hope you get the requisite notice to sort out getting DH home and off to hospital.

SlouchingPanda · 16/07/2013 18:39

Still fed up, and right with you on the enormous feet! DH is cooking a hot curry and I'm drinking a spicy Virgin Mary in the garden.

Photographer - Had my sweep this afternoon (slightly less painful this time, thank goodness, but baby not v low at all) and booked induction for term + 12 which is a week today. Kind of good to know there is an end in sight, but 23rd of June seems a million years away from my actual due date! My consultant also said I had a "nice roomy pelvis" which is a huge compliment in obstetric circles...Grin

Great to hear of new arrivals - gives me hope there might be an actual baby at the end of it for me too!

Icing - cracking work from your mother in law. Baking and decorating a fancy cake is clearly exactly what you'll want to do at that stage. Vinegar your tilty-headed mother in law with her incessant questioning sounds utterly initiating too. Mine is sadly no longer with us, but she would be just the same...

Congratulations to the new arrivals, and sorry for yet another whinghy post!
