Hello shiny new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AmaDablam · 15/07/2013 11:40

Hi everyone
Just marking my place in the new thread and to say congratulations to Thinking and all the other new arrivals (or congratulations again if I've said it on FB - it's getting too much for my baby brain to work out who is who sometimes!!)

Nothing much going on here, just lots of BH's and general achiness. It's still the heartburn/reflux that's getting me down most at the moment and which I'm most looking forward to disappearing (hopefully) once baby is here. I thought it was meant to get better once baby had dropped but no such luck Confused!

In my mind I want to do lots of nesting type stuff but my body is just telling me to rest, rest, rest and that is winning at the moment. Looking forward to this surge of energy that many get just before they go into labour - hope it happens for me or not sure how I'll get through it!

Thinking of those that are having inductions or ELCS (or indeed spontaneous labours) today and hope babes and bumps are keeping cool.

39+1

dinkystinky · 15/07/2013 11:55

Abzs - its amazing what babies can kip through. DS1 slept through drilling outside his bedroom one morning and DS2 used to sleep through the road repeatedly being dug up outside our house (for no real reason I could see!) in his first few months.

Phie - no idea what's behind ds2's nocturnal poos - may just be abit of regression when a new sibling comes along. Am trying to encourage him to poo during the day again - he's mostly veggie and does 3 poos (if not more) a day! Please dont fixate on induction/no induction - there have been some really positive induction stories on this thread (think of Totally with her sneeze birth, and Sunday with her quick induction) for really valid reasons, so inductions if needed can be really positive good birth experiences.

Sunday - I'm living in jersey shorts, tshirts and maxi dresses from when I was pregnant. I'm still carrying alot of excess weight (at least 2 and a half stone) so dont want to spend any real money on clothes at the moment. Am spending money on stuff for the house instead - new parasol for the garden arriving tomorrow and garden lights too...

pocopearl · 15/07/2013 12:20

Congrats on all the new babies and good luck to any arriving today! Im still waiting... keep thinking every little ache or pain or movement is a sign of imminent labour. Currently have my mum and dad round for the day (using my internet) so am hoping the stress will send me into labour :) hope everyone is keeping cool and the new babies are ok with all this heat.

MightBeMad · 15/07/2013 12:24

Mammyk I'm Grin at your plumber - don't worry, I'm fairly certain his qualifications don't extend to that kind of plumbing (or clairvoyancey for that matter!)

VinegarDrinker · 15/07/2013 12:39

Losing the plot a bit with my MiL. She keeps inviting herself round/guilt tripping DH into "inviting" her round. How often and for how long do you reckon is reasonable for local family visitors? The problem is she's been here since 9am and shows no sign of leaving all day, despite being here on Saturday too. She'd be here all day every day given the chance.

We usually visit her deliberately so we have some kind of control over when we leave, I think we'll have to start doing that again before I flip out loudly and rudely and cause WW3, even though it means taking the 2 kids on 2 buses each way in this heat. It's still preferable to feeling invaded in my own house Sad

MightBeMad · 15/07/2013 12:44

Vinegar I think it's totally dependant on whether they're welcome/invited/useful visitors. As it sounds like your mil is none of the above I reckon visits of 2 hrs max, twice a week would be more than accommodating of you (and quite frankly, she should wait to be asked, but I appreciate you don't want ww3!).

VinegarDrinker · 15/07/2013 12:56

She can be useful (took DS to the park for half an hour) but is mostly just really intense and follows me round asking how I am, how is B's feeding, sleeping, crapping etc in a head-tilty kind of way. Seriously tempted to just answer "we are both fine, same as the last time you asked 5 minutes ago".

Sorry, I know it could be a lot worse but it's DH's last day of paternity leave and I was looking forward to a chilled day of just the 4 of us.

waitingforwombat · 15/07/2013 13:16

Vinegar - I'm having MIL stress too and I haven't even HAD a baby yet. On Skype yesterday she was asking about my mum's plans to "come straight down as soon as there is any news", and I made some non committal noises about how we might want some time just the three of us, and that my mum was happy to wait and see what we wanted to do and definitely had no plans to come and stay with us until we were ready. (My lovely mum had MIL from hell, and is therefore v understanding, and always comes bearing dinner from waitrose!)

Sadly MIL didn't take the hint and was talking about looking at places she can come and stay so that she is nearby (both parents and in laws around 2 hours away). I find it so hard because her heart is completely in the right place, but we are so very different and I am quite introverted and expect will just want to be very quiet for a few days, and not have MIL and FIL around - especially as they will be desperate for cuddles etc and I will be trying to establish BF, and they just don't entertain themselves or give us a break. (ie staying somewhere else means they will sleep there but spend all rest of other time with us)When "popping in" here before, I have gone for a nap/to the supermarket etc and they never take hint that this might be a good time for them to leave (or do something useful like make dinner/do the washing up/offer to go to supermarket for me).

I hate conflict, but I can see a nightmare family situation brewing, which is stressing me out no end. More worried about coping with this than actually giving birth (at least I get to do that without an audience!!). Husband remains all very chilled out about it, and I think has very rose tinted view of how easy its all going to be, and how excited he is about showing off his new baby rather than reality of no sleep/exhausted post labour/stitches and tears/sore nipples/hormones/just wanting some time to slob out.....

TotallyEggFlipped · 15/07/2013 13:22

Congratulations, Thinking! Love the name Morven too. I've only ever known one Morven and she was possibly one of the kindest, loveliest people you'll meet (and no doubt still is).

Phie - try not to stress out about possible induction. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll need 'the drip' - I didn't for either of mine. With Naomi I sat on my ball having contractions whilst reading the papers with DH for an hour and the next thing I knew it was time to push! Didn't have any analgesia for either one. There's a real spectrum of what induction involves, so don't get worried over the worst possibilities. Try to stay relaxed - I'm sure it's what helped me. Needing/wanting a happydural if you do have the synto drip isn't inevitable either, but if you do feel you want it, then that's fine. Just take everything one step at a time. I think the more anxious you are, the more tense you become and the more pain you experience.

Vinegar my sympathies re:MIL. I'm really not looking forward to the arrival of the PILs, but at least this time they aren't arriving for a couple of weeks because of BIL's wedding. Last time they arrived at the hospital the day after & stayed for 5 days. It felt very intrusive because they stayed for the whole of visiting time for 3 days before we were discharged. I hope your MIL leaves soon. (or could you pretend you had an appointment to go to for you or B?? - maybe she'd leave if you went out)

pocopearl · 15/07/2013 16:05

ment to ask the other day am i allowed to join the facebook group?

IcingTheCake · 15/07/2013 16:07

Feel bad for everyone re: in laws, ive told everyone that they may ask to come over but they will have to accept that no means no an if i say half hour tops, thats exactly what i mean!!!

poco ill pm you Smile

dinkystinky · 15/07/2013 17:09

Sorry to hear about the inlaw issues Vinegar and Waiting and about your parents driving you mad Poco. I think going to visit her next time sounds a wise move Vinegar.

TotallyEggFlipped · 15/07/2013 17:16

I survived a trip to the supermarket with toddler & baby! Actually it wasn't bad at all. Had to go to the cafe for a BF and someone helped me with they tray of drinks. Other than that I managed it single handed. Grin

Had a nice trip to the park this afternoon & sat under the slide to BF because it was the only bit of shade I could find!

Loving hearing about all the new arrivals. Congratulations everyone. Some gorgeous pictures on FB.

Thinkingof4 · 15/07/2013 17:28

Sorry for those having inlaw issues, you have my complete sympathy!
We are home and all seems well so far

So here is my birth story
I woke about 2.45ish with a fairly intense contraction. After 2 or 3 more within 30 min I knew I needed to go in asap, so we phoned midwives unit and she said to come straight in. Contractions lasting a minute pretty much from the start, 3 in 10 minutes all the way in car (20min drive)
Was about 4am when we arrived and I was taken to triage and told someone would come and see me. 30 min later I was contracting every 2 minutes for a minute at a time and really needing g&a but not been seen yet. Dh was sent to find someone and I was immediately taken to delivery room and had a few puffs of g&a. Then waters went and I felt really pushy. Mw tried to examine me and I was about 7cm but v stretchy and I needed to push straight after.
Only pushed for about 3 contractions but mw helped me do this in a v controlled way -tiny push-breath- tiny push etc. So she was born quickly but no tearing only grazes.
Placenta followed soon after
Morven and I did skin to skin for ages and eventually she latched on like a pro! Clever wee thing
So whole labour from very first contraction was 2.5hours. She was born just over an hour after arriving at hospital and within 20 minutes of actually seeing midwife.
I think best described as very intense!! Amazing experience, my body did know what to do after all Grin

I'm so happy, all blissed out. For those still waiting hang in there. The moment you meet your baby you will forget all the waiting, aching etc etc!!

And I wonder if Morven will end up being most overdue baby on this thread!!

Thinkingof4 · 15/07/2013 17:44

Term plus 13 btw!

twirliedobbit · 15/07/2013 18:02

Wow, we'll done thinking. I guess number 4 means your body remembered what to do!!
How did you cope with childcare for the other three? That's the bit that panics me. Have help on hand at drop of a hat but they will still be half an hour, worried that I will end up leaving it too late to call them, far too many hours of contractions resulting in nothing to jump on the first few!

Currently term + 3, but can see this one being another lazy little so and so....

MummyKanny · 15/07/2013 18:06

Just popping on to say well done to
Thinking! Fab story and has made me even more excited about having my own birth story. Grin

dinkystinky · 15/07/2013 18:19

Ah, that's a beautiful birth story Thinking and a lovely speedy birth. Sounds like Morven was in a hurry to come when she decided it was her time Grin

We've also had 2 more babies announced on FB group - Minipenguinmaker had a dd, Maya Grace, on 14.7 and OrangeBubbles had her DS by ELCS today, Harrison James.

Twirlie - if it helps any, with DS2 I just knew I needed to call my sister (as my waters went but no contractions to start with). Same with DS3 - knew after had contractions 5 mins apart it was time to call our nanny to come over.

IcingTheCake · 15/07/2013 21:47

Lovely birth story thinking Smile

Silver15 · 15/07/2013 23:13

Congtatulations Thinking.

TotallyEggFlipped · 16/07/2013 00:48

This is not going to be a good night.

Poo leakage all over gro that had only just been changed. DH changed nappy on top of bed - big wee poured off the changing mat all over my side of the bed. I decided to sleep on the floor with the duvet instead of on the pissy mattress. Sitting on the floor feeding DD when a MASSIVE spider runs across her - so I dropped her Blush! (only onto my lap, she's fine). It's not even 1am.....

Silver15 · 16/07/2013 01:34

Totally, sorry to hear you are having a rough night. Hope things settle and you get some sleep.

SlouchingPanda · 16/07/2013 07:46

Congratulations to MiniPemguimMaker, Thinking and Orangebubbles (and anyone else who's managed to sneak a baby out under my radar!). I love reading all your stories!

Sorry for those struggling with newborns in this heat. Sounds very tough indeed. Totally did your night get any better?

How are the rest of the still pregnant clan getting on? Sounded like things might be hotting up (no pun intended) for Icing, Phie and possibly a few others. Life is a combination of needing to put my feet up to combat the enormo-trotters and wanting to stay up and mobile to get this baby's head down. I'm getting super-bored and heading for sweep #2 later today. Given how uncomfortable the first one was I could really do with a strong G&T before I go... oh well. I'm hoping not to rival Thinking for most overdue baby but labour is certainly feeling no nearer.

40+5 and beginning to wonder if I have the gestation period of an elephant...
