Hello shiny new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dinkystinky · 31/07/2013 09:05

Congrats Granny - lovely names! Hope you are all settling in as a family of 4 OK. I think those that still post on here regularly, except for Totally and me, aren't on fb.

Abzs, Totally - peppermint tea and camomile tea good for calming your insides. Your adventure sounds pretty traumatic - glad dh came back after not too long!

J is now in training for the chunderthon - lovely vomit over the bed last night, over me this morning and then over himself just before going to sleep. Its going to be a long laundry filled day!! Combined with a trip across London to fix a wing mirror I managed to smash yesterday. Doh!

waitingforwombat · 31/07/2013 10:23

Congratulations granny (and only a little bit of Envy as feels like there are no pregnant women left in the world! Anyone heard from silver today?) Does most stubborn baby get any prizes in baby-lympics, as lack of baby making it difficult to enter!! (I'm sure I'm going to regret wishing for explosive nappies/longest feed etc etc!)

Really hoping my sweep yesterday will prove similarly productive. Cervix more favourable but head still at -3 so spending entire day on ball/hands and knees trying to get this head down and things started. Slightly concerned that high head might be because of ROL position, so lots of ridiculous exercises going on here in hope of some activity. Any tips?

Persuasion · 31/07/2013 10:24

Congratulations granny

I'm glad you survived your adventure abzs. Yesterday I took F in the car to register her at the doctors. It was the first time I've driven get and I was paranoid that I'd forget her and leave her in the car or something (I didn't)!

dinky are the colds better now?

totally we've discovered F trends to sleep from 8 to 9pm.if we make an effort to keep her awake some of that time she sleep much sooner at night and for longer. Definitely worth the effort in the evening!

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 31/07/2013 10:40

Congratulations granny

I'm not on FB either

abzs Angry Grin I think I would have cried in that situation too!

Re vomiting poor dd is quite a sicky baby and manages to vomit on my nightie every night at the moment. I'm almost thinking of giving up co-sleeping as I can't feed lying down (or she's sick) but I feel it's maybe safer for her because at least I hear her as soon as she's sick. If I don't sit her up she starts spluttering or hiccuping badly (very wet hiccups iyswim)

Well the boys are at cm today and my task is to pack clothes for everyone (except dh who can do his own ) as we are off on holiday tomorrow night (self catering cottage in south of Scotland)
Looking forward to the holiday but not the journey there and back which will take best part of 5 hours to drive (we will be stoping lots!!)

TotallyEggFlipped · 31/07/2013 12:53

I really hope baby wombat makes an appearance soon.

Glad the driving adventure was uneventful, Persuasion

Holiday to Scotland sounds like great fun, Thinking, but I don't envy you the journey up there! I'm packing DD1's bag today - she's off to France tomorrow with DH to be a flower girl at BIL's wedding.

Shockingundercrackers · 31/07/2013 15:22

Hi all... No time to post anything (how does anyone do it?) but day 8 for us and all going well Grin. Just wanted to leave a quick message for granny... Congratulations by the way to you and everyone but please please don't be fobbed off by hcp's who don't help you with a tongue tie. This is my second tongue tied baby (it's not as rare as they lead you to believe) and both times I've been told it wouldn't be a problem and breast feeding has been a nightmare both times. One snip and its like magic how much better they've been feeding. Much less painful for me and they've been able to drain a breast in 15 mins instead of 6 hour cluster feeds. Magic. Feel free to pm me if you like and I can tell you anything I know. Good luck!

GeorgieWilson · 31/07/2013 15:53

Congratulations to all the new mums - and fingers crossed to anyone overdue that babies will arrive soon!
I'm useless at posting but find reading on here and Facebook so helpful - I'm not alone in no sleep and feeding worries.
Our little boy Oliver George was born on 14th July, weighing 8 lb exactly!

TotallyEggFlipped · 31/07/2013 17:05

Congratulations, Georgie!

SundaySunshine · 31/07/2013 17:38

Congratulations Georgie Smile

dinkystinky · 31/07/2013 19:14

Congratulations Georgie - hope all going well with your little man.

Its been another baby-plosion- over on Facebook Sashabella has posted she's had a dd and Amadablam has posted she had her dd this morning too. Am sending pop soon vibes to those remaining innies.

Thinking - holiday sounds lovely but I dont envy you the drive! Hope you have a lovely time. I think the mucus in J's nose/tummy is making him chunder when I do lying down feeds so am trying biological nurturing position today - few less chunders (just) so far. May be worth a go? Thanks for asking re the colds Persuasion - only J and DS2 now have colds thank the lord. Am hoping DS2 shifts his by Friday as he's meant to have a pre-op assessment then (that I've already postponed twice due to his snottiness!) Glad your first drive with baby went well.

Granny - I agree with Shocking, the sooner you can get a tongue tie seen to the better. I got J's snipped when he was a day old as knew the way he was trying to feed felt wrong compared to ds1 and ds2 (never had the night of constant sucking and slipping off the nipple with either of them). Definitely worth finding a hcp who will help, even it if means going private - and if you can try to get it fixed before your milk comes in (or asap after it comes in) it will make life a lot easier for both of you.

Waiting - when your contractions hit they should push the baby down. Do you have an exercise ball? If so, I recommend sitting on it and doing figure of 8s or big circles in early contractions - or stand leaning against a wall and circling your hips. Its what I instinctively found I wanted to do with J (and ds2) when the contractions were hitting at the start - and J wasnt engaged at all when labour started - and it moved him down quickly.

Silver15 · 01/08/2013 06:08

Good morning all.

Congratulations to the new arrivals.

Sorry didn't post yesterday as had to pick up DM from airport and had visitors all afternoon. Was too tired at the end of the day as hadn't slept well the night before.

Well it's August and still no baby for me. Intend to walk lots today.

TomDaleysTrunks · 01/08/2013 07:25

Just checking in as mostly on FB.

40+5. 2 sweeps have shown a High cervix, +3. Losing plug but not much else happening. Generally fed up after a month of Braxton Hicks daily. Feel like I'm not getting anywhere and DH pat leave is bring frittered away. Sad

TotallyEggFlipped · 01/08/2013 09:40

Congratulations to Sashabella0 and Amadablam!

I hope your babies arrive soon, Silver, TomDaleysTrunks and the rest of the innies.

N is one month old today and now in newborn sized clothes (she started in early baby & then tiny baby). She's a boob monster. Grin

cheekbyjowl · 01/08/2013 11:53

come on baby silver and daley. take the plunge and meet your mummies. dinky thanks for updating us on new arrivals, congrats ama and sasha.and glad the cold is starting to vacate your household.

I have a question. we're moving to a new town on saturday and I won't know anyone. I'm keen to find a baby activity to meet other mums but which? what are you all doing if anything i.e. baby massage, signing etc any of them worthwhile?

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 01/08/2013 12:13

Congratulations sash and ama - we v nearly called dd Elspeth but decided she looked like a Morven when she was born.

Tom aargh that's so frustrating re pat leave. Has he got 2 weeks? Hope baby arrives soon

totally dd was too long for newborn when she was born so she's been in 0-3 from birth. So funny how different they are at the start

dinky thanks for advice re biological nurturing might give it a try. M was a bit less sick last night I think because I got good wind up after feeds. I'm going to try winding her for longer today and see if that helps. Hv coming to weigh her this afternoon so I'll see if she's still gaining ok

Really heavy rain here today so I took boys and M to toddler group but luckily it was really quiet and m slept throughout so had a chance to sit and drink tea and chat with other mums. One of them announced she is 13 weeks pg and I found myself thinking 'glad it's not me' so hopefully I'm cured of my broodiness now!!

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 01/08/2013 12:16

cheek I find mum and baby groups can be good for meeting mums, but some can be cliquey so you might have to try more than one to get one you like

Grannyapple · 01/08/2013 12:51

I found baby massage quite good last time and baby sensory but didn't do that until DS was about 9/10 wks old for sensory & about 6-7wks for baby massage.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to shocking & dinky for the TT advice...looks like I've found a LCD who will cone to the house on Saturday & do it for me..

Grannyapple · 01/08/2013 12:51

LC= lactation consultant, not LCD display obv!

Persuasion · 01/08/2013 13:44

Congratulations to the new outies! More lovely names. And fingers crossed for those still pg, it XT be much longer now, they can't stay in there forever. tomdaley I thought paternity leave couldn't start until baby was born? I might be wrong though.

thinking I can't remember if you've tried infacol? We've been using it for about three days now and it's made a big difference to the colic and had made the wind much easier to get up.

cheek I haven't been to any groups yet, in my area the nct do postnatal courses which I'm going to from the end of the month, might be worth a look? I'm also planning on going to baby swimming once she's had her first vaccines and the damned bleeding has stopped.

I had a bit of a cry last night when F had been awake from 11:30 until 2am without settling, but for no reason I could determine. In the end woke dh and he took her for an hour after which she was fine, and I recovered!

Is supposed to be 31 degrees here today so I think we'll be staying in sitting in front of the fan.

dinkystinky · 01/08/2013 14:06

Afternoon all - the cold has mostly left our house but ds2 now starting to develop suspicious spots on his body which has me worried the pox is about to descend (he only had a v light case of it previously so may well get it again!)! Keeping everything crossed j doesn't get it - but as he was up every half hour last night from 11 I am steeling myself for a rocky ride...

Cheek - babies are a great icebreaker! Definitely check out various groups - if there's a local nct branch they may do coffee mornings. Baby massage, music classes (from 4 months), postnatal Pilates/buggy workouts are good for meeting other mums too.

Thinking - hope weigh in goes well.

Granny - glad you're getting the TT sorted on Saturday. Will make a world of difference.

dinkystinky · 01/08/2013 14:08

Tom - I had a couple of small shows on the Friday, sat and Sunday with j (nothing else) and then sudden fast labour on the sudden night. Given all the warm ups you've had I think your active phase will be short - and that baby is coming soon

Abzs · 01/08/2013 15:47

persuasion we had a similar night. After 3 hours of feeding, winding and fussing it turned he just wanted a cuddle from his dad. This cold be a problem. - dh has gone offshore this afternoon.

I must be doing something right though - 12oz gained this week! I thought he was getting heavy...

ReikiMummy · 01/08/2013 17:40

Just to update, Reiki-baby arrived 20th July. V nearly a home birth, will post separatel re birth event.

Baby girl, 6lb 11oz on arrival... now 7lb 1oz :)

Short hospital stay, more for me than the little one.

Newborn snuggles are just wonderful. :D

TotallyEggFlipped · 01/08/2013 19:29

Congratulations, ReikiMummy!

Hope your house stays pox-free dinky & you have a more settled night tonight.

Great work, Abzs!

Cheek - we moved to Dublin when DD1 was a baby and we joined a baby massage group and a baby sensory type group. The massage group was great - loads of chatting to other mums and at the end of the course we went to the cinema, parks & soft play type places together. I think it had more to do with the group of people than the type of activity though. We also did swimming, which DD1 hated and was crap for meeting people. The baby sensory was good, but we didn't make any new friends. I think it was just my group though.
I didn't know anyone where we've just moved this summer, but I've met a couple of mums through Mumsnet local.
