Hello shiny new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
dinkystinky · 28/07/2013 21:02

J is now in training the heptathlon - we had milky chunder over me and sofa as about to leave the house, not one but two poonami incidents necessitating tummy tub action and the fast draw wake up every time I put him down to use both hands to cook/eat/entertain ds2. All he needs to do now is perfect the long distance and high piss and he'll be ready to rock and roll...

lancslass83 · 28/07/2013 21:14

wombat I had a sweep at 39+1 after a few tightenings. Was 1cm dilated and had lots of tightenings that night. Show the next day and full labour the following day so they can definitely help encourage things along.
Congrats to all the new outies, hope the first few nights are going well.

Re the babylympics, not sure that I can beat any of those claims to fame but have had some spectacular poos to deal with, my personal favourite being a missile that was let off as A's nappy came off and landed straight on dh's shoulder, he was not amused!

Persuasion · 28/07/2013 22:18

I'm loving the baby Olympics. So far F's best poo effort was this morning at 5am having not been for 24 hours. She did one little poo, I undid the nappy to change it and she pooed everywhere for about five minutes. I'm not sure where she was storing that volume of poop! We can't compete in the pee stakes though, we can only produce delicate little puddles. Although some special prize for most awake at bedtime must be deserved, she's sitting staring at me as we speak.

Thanks for the infacol recommendations. We got some today and it already seems to have made feeds less stressful for her, lots less coming off the breast screaming and having to re latch.

Had a lovely day seeing some friends then take away with the PIL. Tomorrow is my first day alone with F. I'm nervous but the PIL are visiting for a cup of tea before lunch, then cooking dinner so I can ask them for help if I need it. I also have low expectations, the plan is to survive until dh gets home. Anything else I get done is a bonus!

Congratulations to all the new outies, most hopefully all I've congratulated on FB if on there, as not finding as much time for MN.
Spending my settling down period- waiting to see if A is really asleep munching my way through a pack of haribo thinking I'll need the sugar later if tonight is anything like last night. My fault really after a few nights of sleeping 11-3/4 I thought we had it sorted, but we took A to a bday bash last night- so multiple cuddles and lots of sling time meant she missed out on her usual crying/screaming awake time, then I spent ages worrying that she hasn't fed for ages and was just sleeping, anyway just as I settled she woke, fed and then after a short reprive pretty much just kept going, ended up waking DD and eventually we both passed out exhausted around 6 this morning having retreated to the living room. Funny that as soon as you think you have something cracked they just rewrite the rule book.
Tonight we went back to the several hours of colic type screaming so I'm hoping that in turn means back to the once waking, but we shall see. Not sure which is better/worse lack of sleep for multiple feeds overnight or the hours of unsettled ness in the evening.
No real baby-lympics titles here, although we can fart as loud as to rival an adult- does that count? And def wait for the new nappy for the pooplosions, which is meaning that I am needing to wash nappies pretty much everyday or dip occasionally into my emergency disposables, especially with the weather now conspiring against me.
I'm on my phone and can't remember who else was going to reply to, except to say we are also using infacol and although it hasn't cured the colic type stuff, it has made it more bearable and wind does seem to be easier to shift.
Right I think I can safely turn off the light now at least for a couple of hours, fingers crossed for much longer. Nite nite

MummyKanny · 29/07/2013 05:07

I think babykanny is a contender at the Baby-lympics! She has also spewed all over the sofa but her real strength is the perfect fountain of pee during a nappy change. Yesterday she managed to aim for a little plastic tub at the side of the changing table where I keep all the cotton wool. Not bad for a baby without a winky Smile

I've been up since 3 feeding and trying to get back to sleep. Shouldn't really complain as I usually get 4 hour sleeps. No real improvement on the latching front, sigh. I'm still finger feeding and expressing, seems like a real slog at this time of day. The latest theory is that there is a tongue tie (despite previously having been discounted) so we're having that looked at on Tuesday. Really hope it gets sorted.

Good luck to all the remaining bumps! Soon enough being pregnant will feel like a distant memory.

PhieEl06 · 29/07/2013 09:12

Morning all, wow it's been a mad few days, thank you for all the congratulations, I have had a skim read but there was so much I haven't had chance to catch up properly but would like to say a huge congratulations to all who've had babies over the last few days.
Thank you also to whoever updated on my behalf, Macy June was born at 8.34 on 25th July weighing 7lb 6oz. told to expect a big baby pfffttt
Her birth was fantastic & quick really, contractions started about 11.20 on Wednesday night, started timing at every 3 mins lasting 30 secs mildly uncomfortable, made me feel sick & want to poo, sent DP to bed, tried to sleep but was impossible, managed on my own until they started to get painful at 1.30 so woke my mum up, called hospital, had paracetamol & a bath, they were every 2 mins then lasting 30 secs, hospital said they wanted every 5 mins lasting 60 secs or to go in when I couldn't cope, the bath ramped up my contractions in pain, put the tens on & managed on that until 4 when I was writhing in agony with every contraction then every 4 & half mins lasting 45 secs, called hospital to be told delivery was full & I'd have to be assessed on triage but more than likely sent home, got too hospital for around 5 to be told I was 5cm & moved over to delivery then things moved pretty quickly, used my tens & gas & air (fabulous stuff), looked super glam on all fours pissing & pooing (lost all my dignity) & was screaming for more pain relief at 6 the midwife went off to get some but before she come back I had pushing urges. When she got back she examined me & I was 8-9cm in absolute agony but don't really remember the pain because of g&a. Was pushing for a while but eventually at 8.34 Moo was born, still with waters intact, I think it's called being born in the caul, they didn't break until the midwife touched her, it's so rare especially with a natural birth, 1 in 88,000 apparently incredibly lucky & also means clairvoyance (OH & his mum both have erm weird things were they see & talk to people who have passed), she latched on right away but I was so exhausted, I was pee'd on & poo'd on & came out the other end with a few grazes & a 1st degree tear which luckily didn't need stitches. Had to stay in overnight as they picked up a 1st degree heart murmur, glad I did though as although it was hellish as Moo was awake every half an hour & I only had 3 hours sleep in 48 hours but it really helped my confidence, got to see a breastfeeding buddy who really gave me some fantastic advice & the midwives were so helpful. Finally got home Friday afternoon after her heart murmur was looked at & had closed up over the 24 hours which is quite common really. Since then I've been a mix of emotions but feeling much better now, & thanks to you ladies through Facebook who've really pulled me through when I felt my lowest.

Today OH & I are off on our first trip out with her alone, only to do a little bit of shopping but still scary! & I'm going to attempt to bath her, even scarier!
Going to try & keep up now but easier said than done with a newborn.

I hope you ladies are all well & we have another birth burst over the next few days! Smile

Silver15 · 29/07/2013 09:24

Goodmorning ladies.

Thanks Phie for the birth story.

I went to bed with contractions and back pain. Lasted until after midnight but woke up this morning with nothing. I have my sweep today so hope that will progress things.

PhieEl06 · 29/07/2013 10:03

Good luck with the sweep today silver, hopefully things will be moving along soon!

dinkystinky · 29/07/2013 10:22

Sounds like things are slowly starting for you Silver - hope the sweep triggers off things again.

Phie - hope the trip goes well. Keep reminding yourself that this stage is just a phase.

Good luck for the sweep silver

Silver15 · 29/07/2013 12:49

Thanks Phie, Dinky and Persuasion.

Just been to the midwife. The sweep was not successful as my cervix is very posterior. Baby is 2/5 engaged so hopefully will come out soon.

TotallyEggFlipped · 29/07/2013 13:30

The baby has to come out eventually, Silver Wink

Hope you enjoyed your trip out, Phie. It feels great to get out of the house. (I took N to the supermarket before she was 24hours old because I was going crazy!)

Silver15 · 29/07/2013 14:54

Thanks Totally, the consolation is I have a maximum of 2 weeks to have the baby. So will try to patiently wait.
The symptom spotting reminds me of TTC.

Cheeseandbread · 29/07/2013 15:42

Thanks for sharing your birth story Phie I hope the trip out went well.

Good luck Silver

cheekbyjowl · 29/07/2013 16:26

congrats phie

this baby may be a clairvoyant because he seems to be able to predict that were about to put him in the moses basket with uncanny reliability Wink

given in to co sleeping after vowing not to but wondering if weve set a precedent that we will struggle to break?

dinkystinky · 29/07/2013 16:30

Cheek I coslept with ds1 and ds2 to start with - they were in their own cots by 3 months. Just do what works for you and baby now to get through this phase.

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 29/07/2013 18:49

Great story phie you did brilliantly, congratulations!

cheek I co slept with ds3 and am currently co sleeping with dd, though struggling to feed her lying down.
Ds3 was not a great sleeper and it was the only way I could function. I'll see how things go with dd but am happy to do it for now. I follow safe co sleeping guidelines, luckily it's so hot I don't need covers anyway!

Struggling to feed dd lying down. She seems to get hiccups or be sick if I feed her lying down, so having to sit up feed her, then keep her upright for a good 20 minutes each time. I'm hoping this will improve as she gets bigger and stronger, ds2 and ds3 both had reflux and I'm really hoping she doesn't progress to that next. I can't remember what age they were when they started having symptoms but I'm sure it wasn't from birth. Anyone else got a baby who is sick/ hiccups a lot if flat?
Actually thinking about it more she also sneezes and coughs when flat after a feed which would suggest reflux probably. Fx she's not as bad as ds2 who was the pukiest baby ever

Silver15 · 29/07/2013 18:49

Thanks Cheese.

Cheek I also co slept with DS1 for a couple of weeks. Been told that as long as something is introduced within the first 5 weeks they always adapt and get used to it eventually.

cheekbyjowl · 29/07/2013 22:05

thanks for the encouraging messages. both j and I are getting more sleep at the moment but hope he'll transfer to the "basket of wakefulness" in time.

thinking j only feeds when im lying down but hes on his side. but is often sick if placed on back in basket. I assumed sickness was normal so not the best to advise but I hope it improves for you as sitting up at night must be very tiring.

PhieEl06 · 30/07/2013 03:00

Silver have you tried reflexology if you want baby out? runs suggested it to me after it seemed to do the trick for her, I had it done last Wednesday afternoon & contractions started less than 12 hours later, may just be coincidence but I think it's worked for a fair few people on here, the way I looked at it too was even if it did nothing I got some lovely foot pampering.

First trip out went fantastically well although in lifts & things whilst shopping old ladies kept 'oooing' & 'ahhing' at her & asking how old she was, when I said 4 says they looked like they were about to drop their pants or something, it was quite amusing!

Tonight is a good night! My clever little girl has slept, fed & changed well, just mummy who can't get back to sleep then, I don't mind so much when I have my gorgeous girl snuggled up on my chest! Smile

Hope everyone else is having a restful night!

SlouchingPanda · 30/07/2013 05:13

New Event - Relay of Tears

A two-member team sport for endurance crying. Teams must consist of one hormonal post-natal woman and one newborn.

Good luck Silver - hope you aren't too disheartened at the posterior cervix. Things can change very quickly so fingers crossed for you soon. Walking walking walking seemed to work for me.

Phie good work on your trip out. We took Junior Panda to the supermarket on day 4 and it took ages to get around. Everyone loves a newborn!

Second weigh in yesterday (8 days old) and currently 4.1kg so almost back to birthweight here Grin.

I have had my mum staying which is a mixed blessing. On the one hand it's great to have another pair of hands to do the washing up, or someone to watch JP whilst I shower/nap. But equally it just feels like everything I do and my relationship with DH is under scrutiny. We had B & SIL for dinner last night and it ended up bring a bit of a cooking marathon. We probably bit off far more then we could chew and dinner was really late in the end. I adore cooking, so it wasn't a big chore, but we probably should have moved the goalposts in terms of what we made, and I know that no-one expects gourmet food, but it seemed right to make a bit of an effort especially as DH has no other family to speak of. Even though my mum would never say anything, I feel like she's bottling it in and was silently seething at seeing me do so much which is somehow even worse. She has been here since Sat & I feel like we just need some time to get to know our baby and new life without anyone else around.

Sorry for self-indulgent whinge. It helps to vent on here, but she's going home today and I'll probably miss her like crazy when she goes. Poor woman can't win!

Slouching moo is in training for Longest Time to Settle, not quite there on your 7 hour WR but she's building it up on 5 hours yesterday, a new personal best! Also Shortest Time to Soiling we have just received confirmation of 30 seconds, wet nappy off, clean nappy on, straight to boob followed by a loud wet fart, thanks baby girl!
I know what you mean about you mum, I live with mine so I have exactly the same, I've taken to crying in front of her & she usually backs off!
Another thing that worked is asking her how she'd do something, nicely, it made my mum stop gently seething & actually made her feel useful, I think it worked a little bit like reverse psychology. Hope things improve though, sending Brew & Thanks because let's face it we all need it at the moment.
