Hello shiny new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Thinkingofmyfabfour · 22/07/2013 09:36

Congratulations slouching wow big baby! And great day for a birthday too Wink
hope you got some rest overnight and that you are making progress in deciding on a name. We waited 24 hours before we 'announced' ds1's name, definitely don't be rushed into a decision. You really should have held on another couple of hours to get a silver coin though Grin

twirlie you could try a last dtd to see if that will do the trick? If you can face it at this stage

Re princess kate, what pressure! Poor thing being snapped when in labour, hopefully she can block all that out and get into the zone for labouring
M is a week old today! Feels like longer but in a good way

dinkystinky · 22/07/2013 09:37

Slouching - huge congratulations on the birth of your lovely bundle of boy - enjoy all those lovely newborn snuggles! Hope you both recover swiftly from the birth x

Runs - the sooner you venture out, the easier it becomes I promise. With ds1 my first ventures out were to nct friends places and bf groups after about 4 weeks. With ds2 he was out in cafes and at the dentist with me (fed in the chair!) Within the first few weeks - and j has been out and about various places from a day and a half old this time round. I just take a huge Muslin to preserve what's left of my modesty when feeding j (also handy for mopping up milk!).

Love the greeting Mightbe - Freudian slip encouraging all those innie babies out?

Waves - hope you're doing OK. Remember the mantra - baby will come when it wants to. Will save your sanity.

BB01 · 22/07/2013 09:40

Aw many congrats Slouching!! Hope you are recovering ok.
First day with DD and me on our own today! Having a relatively easy morning so far after a difficult night (she wanted to feed or comfort suck non stop between half eight and half one!!). Am planning a few trips out to see NCT friends for later on in week. Have not been further with her my own than round our estate so far! It seems a mammoth mission just to get dressed at the mo!!

BB01 · 22/07/2013 09:46

Phie, First Time parent by Lucy Atkins is quite good. It's a really easy to read book which covers most basics and is very honest and non-judgmental /preachy. There are little bits I don't like and get the impression she is more of a Gina Ford type than baby - led but she mostly keeps things neutral.

Cheeseandbread · 22/07/2013 10:03

Congratulations slouching!!

Not much sleep here either last night... Sorry to those suffering with colds on top of being pregnant/ coping with newborns.

Just a quickie... Has anyone tried infacol? Does it work? Not sure what it actually does... Maybe help their digestion? Do you need to ask the doctor first or can you just give it?

SundaySunshine · 22/07/2013 10:10

Cheese I give L infacol before his night feeds, and it seems to be working. I don't give it to him all the time but if he starts getting painful wind then I'll give it to him on next feed. I didn't ask dr but talked to pharmacist. Had terrible time with DD so this time round decided to medicate, when he clearly is in discomfort.

SundaySunshine · 22/07/2013 10:12

Congratulations slouching!! Hope you are recovering well and enjoying beautiful baby snuggles Smile

photographerlady · 22/07/2013 10:52

Morning all

Congrats Slouching!

Sorry I've been hiding away from here as I'm now 41 weeks and being overdue has made me so grumpy. We've tried it all now. From walking, sexy time, hot foods, pineapple... Not even a twinge. My sweep on Friday said I was 1-2cm with still a posterior cervix (which is now an inch long) but aside from mild cramps after I have nothing. Silly midwife can't see me again til this Friday so guess it will be a very long week.

Then induction booked next Monday :(

dinkystinky · 22/07/2013 11:07

Photographer - I tried everything going with ds1 ( was averaging 6 miles a day up and down the hills of Hampstead and Highgate at 41 weeks to try to encourage him out) and nothing worked as he just wasn't ready to come out just yet. I reckon he was so laid back he had to be evicted or he'd be in there still.

Friends have sworn by acupuncture and/or reflexology (it worked for Runs) so that may be worth a go if not tried - or just look forward to meeting your laid back little lady in due course...

TomDaleysTrunks · 22/07/2013 11:51

Congratulations slouching, sounds like a tough labour but you got there in the end! Hooray!

Still BH away here! Pretty boring now. Other than that, no real news.

Good luck bb01 on your own today. You'll be fab!
Agree what others have said about getting out with the babies. You feel so much better for getting out and about, more normal! I used to find that DD was more settled out in the buggy. Out of town shopping centres are quite handy to pop to.

Beginningofthejourney · 22/07/2013 12:50

Congratulations slouching, it took about 4 days before Theo got a name...you get 6 weekGrin
cheese I haven't used infacol as Theo is on reflux meds but the health visitor said you need to use it for at least 4 days to see the results, don't know if this is right?!
bb01 I have found that when I breast feed when out most people don't even seem to notice what we are doing, as I said before I prefer tops that I can pull up rather than down as I don't feel as exposed.
Feeling sorry for DOC imagine the whole world waiting for you! Hope some of you innies manage to get a silver coin though Smile

Beginningofthejourney · 22/07/2013 12:53

Sorry not sure if it was you who was asking about feeding out and about bb01? Can't remember who it was?

princessllama · 22/07/2013 13:33

Well done slouching,i kept checking for update in night when feeding hoping you were ok and the baby was no longer op. lovely big baby.
Runs, good positive thoughts, i think that is where we are at too.
Icing- is it full moon too ? That usually has effect on labour starting too
Might be, opening could be your computer going into sympathy with innies
Dinky how is the cold? Is j still suffering too?
Cmw just left, h has gone up to 8lbs, going down centile chart though so will need re weighing. Amazingly she is coming back to us and i dont have to head into haverhill- god i love suffolk. She was a bit fussed about his jaundice, i think ive just got used to his permatan and squiffy eyes

princessllama · 22/07/2013 13:41

Sorry missed a load of posts. Big sympathy to all of you v pg ladies, not fair with all this heat as well.
Happy bday for yesterday thinking ( sorry forgot your new name)- can u tell i ws up last night too!

IcingTheCake · 22/07/2013 13:54

princess it is a full moon!!! Good about the hv coming to you Smile definitely makes life a little easier!

I lost my plug!! For definite! There was no blood (sorry tmi) but just a big glob that managed to fall on my hand not the tissue Blushof thick discharge, really gross but i got excited! And got everything sorted last night at midnight my Oh insists im nesting so i guess i could be, i just thought that was as good a time as any to sort through all our bits and pieces an tidy up, he wouldn't let me hoover though Sad

I know labour could still be a way off and im not having contractions its just nice to know my body didnt completely miss the memo about what to do after 9 months!

Hope everyone is having a good day! And hope the full moon and storm gets some of these babies out!

MightBeMad · 22/07/2013 14:19

Ooh exciting icing!! Good to have signs that things are moving in the right direction!

Photographer, much sympathy on being overdue and frustrated. Hope it all happens for you soon!

Lol to the comments on my typo - I can but hope it applies to me!!

MightBeMad · 22/07/2013 14:20

Phie, I meant to say I found 'your baby week by week' very reassuring when I had dc1.

pocopearl · 22/07/2013 14:35

Congrats everyone with babies. Came in friday morning for induction 3 pessery later and only 1 cm seems just coming in for induction doesnt mean instant baby... just thought would update as saw someone asking after me. Gd luck all still waiting x

princessllama · 22/07/2013 14:48

Poco hamg in there not long. I had that with dd and i was next to deliv rm so heard all other women giving birth. It will happen i promise

Mrsd77 · 22/07/2013 14:52

Phie we have The Rough Guide to Babies and Toddlers. Used the Rough Guide to Pregnancy too. Easily dip-in-able and not judgy!

dinkystinky · 22/07/2013 15:11

Come on baby Poco - mummy wants to escape from the delivery ward sauna!

Icing - sounds like things are moving in the right direction.

Princess llama - hv in Suffolk sounds lovely. Are you sure h doesn't now just have a tan from the london sun instead of jaundice? Both ds1 and ds2 are showing their Indian heritage and turning golden brown in this sun - j is still white as a v white little thing , bless him. It bemuses me rather that I have 3 blue eyed dark haired English looking boys - dhs genes are clearly well practiced at battering my genes into submission.

Thanks for those asking over our colds - j super unsettled today and snotting little bogies out on my boobs when feeding ( which he's not too interested in) and I'm feeling so rough I just had a daytime nap which I can't normally do - hope it helps me fend off this lurgy. Hope others suffering, be it with colds, pregnancy, heat or anything else, all feel better soon!

Shockingundercrackers · 22/07/2013 15:35

Morning all. Just checking in very quickly to say massive congratulations to sloching. Well done you! Hope you're having the best ever baby snuggles. Makes it all worth it.

Can't check back on the tread now but dinky is it you with J and the cold? I'm sending you a big hug. DS got one when he was 5 days old when a visitor brought one round to the house and it was horrid watching him try to breathe. Needless to say, he was totally fine of course. He has an incredible immune system now and never gets sick (touch wood), maybe that had something to do with it?

I am now 41+13. Officially the most overdue person on the July thread. Go me. Do I get a prize?

Shockingundercrackers · 22/07/2013 15:35

Slouching. Not sloching. Blush

BB01 · 22/07/2013 16:07

Thanks Tom and Beginning and everyone else (sorry mental black again)! Yes Beginning think I mentioned about leaving the house generally putting fear of God in me!! Managed a twenty minute nice walk with sling after about forty mins getting ready to go! The sling really is my number one best purchase so far. She is almost immediately quiet and usually sleeps for whole time she has it on. We managed to go to a wedding reception with her in it on sat night. No way would have managed it otherwise as she likes pushchair too but it doesn't have quite the same effect. Also amazing for doing jobs round house!

Thinkingofmyfabfour · 22/07/2013 18:14

Aw shocking I thought I'd be most overdue so I really sympathise. Are you going to be induced or waiting to see what happens? You've probably mentioned all this already but my baby brain means I can't remember.

dinky hope the nap helped. I got a really horrible viral illness a few days after ds3 was born and it totally wiped me out, so get as many naps as you can

As for bf out and about I did my first public one today during meeting with bank manager- he didn't seem to mind too much, I just kept asking him questions about money stuff Grin
