MW app in an hour and a bit. Is s/he going to tell me off that my sample is QUITE A LOT of pee in a buxton bottle?! #suchanewbie

sunflowered · 11/07/2013 07:58

bear your mw sounds horrendous Shock In the original letter I got from community mws here it said that I could chose antenatal care or to give birth at two other equidistant trusts instead of the one they work with, but said I'd just need my gp to refer me there instead as they use different systems/notes/whatever. Maybe your gp can help?

and def agree - a strongly worded complaint to either the ccg or trust depending on who employs this mw would i think have to be seen by the chief exec. Ime that stirred up more action than a polite call to pals - this woman sounds like she needs stirring up a bit!

I'm definitely changing MW :)

The clinic where they're based opens at 9 so I'm going to phone and ask how I go about changing. I'm also going to email the Supervisor of Midwives at my hospital and ask if they can see me.

In the pack she gave me there was a leaflet for the nursing and midwifery council with details of what to expect in terms of care. I'm going to base my complaint around their code of practice, e.g. this is what she did/said and this is in contraction to point xxx of the code.

If anyone else has concerns about their care or wants to know what level of care to expect then the code is online here:

Forgot to say for those struggling in the heat I've got a tall free standing fan in the bedroom that oscillates so keeps the bedroom much cooler. It's on ALL night and if I suddenly get hot I flip the covers off and get a lovely cold breeze :)

Bear your midwife sounds like a total nightmare, how can somebody go into that profession with that attitude?! Glad you're going to change. Funnily enough I've got my booking in appointment with a midwife I saw for my early appointments last time and my heart sank. I really didn't click with her at all and she was totally incompetent at taking blood from me. Hoping to subtly find out which days she does the antenatal clinic at my surgery and which days someone else does it and rebook future appointments for days when she's not on duty.

Ruggle I'm in the same boat as you this week - it seems I can't function until I've violently puked first thing in the morning (along with horrid upset stomach) which is delightful. I do tend to feel a little better afterwards but my stomach feels absolutely wrecked from all the spasms.

On the plus side, I hit 8 weeks today so one step closer to the symptoms easing a bit I hope. Booking in appointment next week, can't wait to get the ball rolling.

Bearfrills · 11/07/2013 09:19

I've just sprinted through my village with DD shrilling "wheeeeee!" as I propelled the buggy in front of me, my lips clamped tightly together, looking for a discrete place to deposit a mouthful of sick without anyone seeing.

Bearfrills · 11/07/2013 09:19

On the positive side its the most exercise I've had in days ...

Feeling sick, though not physically vomiting but constant bad taste in mouth and stomach churning that makes me want to eat more. Have been eating a lot and is noticed by my work colleagues. Just hope that I don?t look like a big balloon by the time I am 12 weeks he he
Can anyone confirm if I calculate from my period date, I would be 8+3 but If I calculate from conception date I am 6 weeks, although the calculator does say I am 8+3 but not sure now

8+3 today

tinypolkadot · 11/07/2013 11:37

Thanks Champagne she said she had guessed, and said congratulations and she was excited for me Smile I made it clear I definitely want to keep my job and also told her I was worried about the imminent restructure and if I would be affected, and she told me not to worry about it.

Hope you're feeling a bit better today?

Sending lots of anti-sickness vibes to everyone!

misskatamari · 11/07/2013 11:41

Yep you count from period date Smile

I had two midwife appointments but think its just because they gave me one as soon as I rang at 5 weeks. At that one she did blood tests, weight, height, carbon monoxide levels and had a bit of a chat and gave me stuff to read. Then I had one this week where the mw came to my house and filled in loads of forms about health and medical history and I had to decide if I wanted the downs screening. Maybe where you are it's spilt into similar appointments? It seems that most places do just do it all as one. Id probably give them a ring to check.

misskatamari · 11/07/2013 11:41

Tiny that is fab about your boss, I bet you are so relived Grin

S2012 · 11/07/2013 11:43

Thank you misskatamari
Tiny - am happy that you manager's happy with the news.
let's see now mine takes it when I tell her hopefully I intend to tell her after my 12 week scan, but If i started to show than would have to do it early. feel so bloated as I feel that I am already showing

S2012 · 11/07/2013 11:44

about the midwife appointments, I will check my letters once again and will call them for reassurance

Somanychanges · 11/07/2013 11:48

Hi everyone,

Sorry to see some of the bad news earlier up the thread.

I have been feeling extremely low because of the sickness so have not felt up to posting. However, I started taking Metoclopramide, anti sickness medication at the beginning of the week. Today is the first day I have not been sick in weeks.

I have even managed to eat, so happy.

Hope everyone else is well.

tinypolkadot · 11/07/2013 12:17

Thanks misskatamari I am soooo relieved! I feel like a big weight has been lifted. I love my job, and am really anxious about not being here and having someone cover for me during maternity leave.

S2012 you may be pleasantly surprised like me when you do tell. I was going to wait until 12 weeks but then I thought I'd tell mine a bit earlier so she felt like I was sharing my secret with her IYSWIM? Make her feel involved in my journey.

Somany Glad you're feeling a bit better today! Sounds like you've been having a really bad time of it

I think sleep is definitely the key to feeling better! I'm feeling so much better than I was because I am off work and able to rest. As soon as I do something a bit active I start to feel rough again and like you Champagne by the evening I'm feeling grotty again. I applaud those of you struggling through this whilst being in work! Gotta get up early tomorrow to take my cat to the vets so just hoping I manage to sleep tonight or they might be getting vommed on in the morning!
