Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi everyone, just catching up after a weeks holiday then a week with awful sickness where I haven't had the energy to catch up on you chatty lot.

penny congratulations on the test result. Think 2.2mm is quite normal for 13weeks (the later the bigger it is). I googled a lot with dd as had 1:160 risk.

I also have a scan tomorrow. Caved and booked a private one as big family event on Saturday and the constant vomiting is a bit of a giveaway. Just want reassurance that everything is going well before extended family find out. Will be 11weeks 3days. NHS scan is next thurs so not that far off either!

Anyone else already classified as high risk? I have so many appts booked already because I had gd with dd. I'm having the gtt at 14weeks, then a consultants appt at 15weeks, then midwife at 16 weeks. They don't even know if I have gd yet. Good job I'm not working!

MrsAVB · 24/06/2013 21:24

extra, I was offered a job a month or so ago and chose to turn it down for various reasons. With maternity leave, you have the same entitlement, it's maternity pay that's slightly different, and unless you have a very generous employer who offers more than the statutory minimum, you won't get SMP - the first 6 weeks at 90% if you are already pg when you start a new job, but will go straight onto MA at £130something a week. this factsheet from Valuing Maternity is useful. I wouldn't tell them at interview. They can't withdraw an offer on finding out you're pregnant, but they could have ways and means of not offering you the job if you did tell them.

TarkaTheOtter · 24/06/2013 21:25

extra that's a tricky one. I wouldn't tell them. By law they are not allowed to use it as a factor in their decision (i think) so they have no legitimate reason to know before they make you an offer.
I don't think you'd get any mat pay but you would accrue holiday and have the same mat leave rights as anyone else.
Might get maternity allowance, can't remember what the criteria are but it is on the direct.gov website.

X-post with the much better informed mrsavb Smile

sarahleanne · 24/06/2013 21:38

tarka- im classed as high risk as i had pre-eclampsia with my first and was admitted ad high blood pressure with my second and i also have group b strep. Therefore im also under consultant care as well as the midwife.

thankyou for the congrats on the job front.
extra i say go for it :) but thats just my personal opinion.

MrsVDB · 24/06/2013 21:42

extra I interviewed and took a job when I knew, didn't say anything in the interview but told them in my acceptance email. I expect all companies are different but my hr dept said I don't officially have to say anything until 6 months but I did to start relationship on right foot. They couldn't take offer back just because I'm pregnant. Mines at same company just different division so not sure about pay I'm afraid

MrsAVB · 24/06/2013 21:46

Ooh look Tennis!

Apparentlychilled · 24/06/2013 22:25

Feeling a bit freaked out- all my symptoms seem to have gone: not felt queasy all day, boobs not sore and ocerwhelming exhaustion gone. I know I shd be grateful (esp as I've had no cramping or bleeding), but after my ectopic last year, I'm really scared something is going to I wrong w this one.

Anyone else symptom free but all ok?

Frogcatcher · 24/06/2013 23:18

How far along are you apparently? I'm 11 wks & my queasiness, fatigue & sore boobs have gone in the last few days. I'm now panicking & not been sent a date for my Nhs scan yet so have booked a private one tmrw at the place I had my 8 week one. Is that an option if you're really worried?

I'm going to be job hunting but I'm planning to be totally upfront from the outset & offer to work on a temporary contract to maternity leave. This is partly because I work in an incestuous industry where you never quite know who will turn up again where & am getting referrals through people i know as well so I don't want anyone to feel I've deceived them. Obviously if that wasn't the case I'd be keeping schtum!

MrsGSR · 24/06/2013 23:33

tarka I'm not high risk, but having the blood test for gestational diabetes as dad is type 2, and had to have some extra blood tests as I've got Mediterranean ancestry.

I'm 10 weeks and nausea seems to be fading, I know someone down thread stopped having symptoms but had a scan that showed everything was fine :)

TobyLerone · 25/06/2013 05:05

I went to bed at 8.30 last night. So obviously I'm wide awake now :(

extra, what everyone else said. Don't tell them yet, but tell them when they offer it to you.

tarka, I'm potentially high risk due to fibroids, but there's no way of telling what will happen with them, so it's just a case of 'wait and see'. I'll be seeing a consultant, but my mw is hopeful that I'll be mostly mw-led.

LittlePeaPod · 25/06/2013 06:27

Morning ladies

Wow can't believe how quickly this thread moved since my last post. Sorry not been on much. We are starting work on the house and internet keeps going up and down. Also got caught up in a heated debated on the AIBU threads regarding the teacher that got five and half years for abduction and sexual offences... Those threads really do get heated. Hmm. And last but not least not really had much news to give.. Still really sick, still got food aversion but come to accept ths is probably it for me in this pregancy. So my thoughts with everyone still suffering. MrsA Chocco, Sultanajo etc. how are you feeling now?

Read through the thread but can't remember who sai what. So big congratulations on all the great news regarding scans and tests. Also congratulations to everyone that has reached their 12 week milestone.

Pidgey your experience really puts things into perspective. So glad to hear you are doing well and I am sure your baby will be fine and snuggling away..

A couple of questions ladies

  1. had my NHS 12 week scan yesterday and they thought I measured 12+4 rather that 11+6. Sonograher stuck with 11+6 on notes though as she said the earlier in pregnancy you are dated the more accurate. So its my 12 week celebrations today.. Don't understand but went with it. Chickpea looks amazing, is still wriggling about and has grown so much. I got the down scan results and she said Chickpea was measuring in the normal range 1.6mm. What does this actually mean? We get NHS blood results back in a couple weeks.

  2. has anyone else noticed that your tummy seems to grow and expand through the day? Or am I just imagining this?

Enjoy your day ladies and good luck to all those with scans, tests and due test results this week.. Smile

9 +4. So surely too early for symptoms to ease?!

vix206 · 25/06/2013 07:16

Apparently, I'm 9+2 and my symptoms eased last week. All is fine here, I just picked up baby's heartbeat with my home Doppler Grin

I was the same with DS, please try not to worry. Symptoms do come and go.

MrsVDB · 25/06/2013 07:25

apparently I posted a couple of weeks back that symptoms went at 6+4 and was sure it was mmc even though no bleeding or cramping. I've had 2 scans, last one last week at 8+3, all was fine. I'm 9+3 today and still hardly any symptoms. I'm just hoping my body is defying text books and placenta took over really early. Either that or I'm really lucky! Try not to worry. Midwife did say to pop back to epu if I'm worried. Maybe you could do that?

MrsVDB · 25/06/2013 07:30

vix wow I didn't realise you could do that so early?! Must put your mind at ease. At epu they said to me they don't listen for heartbeat this early due to the heat (I think like ultrasound heat rather than hot heat) that they create. Have you heard anything about this? I'm starting to get very tempted!! I also have a podgy belly so would this make it harder?

pea I get much bigger through the day. My mac does up easily in the morning but by the evening I struggle to do the buttons up!! I even indulged in a pregnant lady waddle the other day at the station even though I know it's only bloat ha ha

vix206 · 25/06/2013 07:38

Yes the midwife etc. will tell you not to try and find a heartbeat before 14 weeks or so but I knew I did it with DS last time round. It is possible with a full bladder and a lot of patience. They don't like you to do it because a lot of ladies can't find the hb and then go into panic mode which is understandable. After my MC in March I just wanted the reassurance.

I am very slim (except for bloat!!) which apparently helps this early on to find the heartbeat.

vix206 · 25/06/2013 07:39

Ps I've never heard anything about heat being generated. My Doppler doesn't generate heat.

Vatta · 25/06/2013 08:19

vix I think it's not real heat but ultrasound heat if that makes sense? The nhs don't use dopplers early because there's a concern about risk. I think in pregnancy everything seems to have some risk though!

TobyLerone · 25/06/2013 08:24

My ultrasonographer also said something about Dopplers perhaps being harmful in early pregnancy, which is why you don't hear the heartbeat at most scans. It puts a lot of pressure on the baby's heart, apparently.

Congrats on your scan, Pod. I'd want to stick with the earlier date, too. So far I'm 2 for 2 on going to 42 weeks, so anything which makes that (and therefore induction) less likely is ok in my book!

I've just booked my NCT classes. Bit nervous because the scan's not until Thursday, but today was the deadline for reserving my place. They're not taking the payment until the beginning of August, though, so I can always cancel.

vix206 · 25/06/2013 08:31

Yes there are some views on dopplers like this but I looked into it very carefully and am satisfied (and my gp agreed) that my little handheld home Doppler is not harmful when used infrequently for short times. It's something you can only decide for yourself once armed with facts.

For me the reassurance I've had this morning is priceless. I won't be using it again now as I'm just happy to know there is a baby in there this time.

MrsAVB · 25/06/2013 08:44

Morning!
pea sorry to hear you're still feeling grotty. Have things improved at all? Hope you are managing to eat a little. I am still vomming regularly, have had I think 5 random days when I haven't, but then it's come back with a vengeance! But I think my appetite is better and am able to eat a bit more healthily. Am still on max dose of meds. Re. scan dates, my notes have two EDDs on; one is EDD by ultrasound (01/01) and one gestational by LMP (06/01). Interesting about earlier scans being more accurate though, although I didn't have any before 12 week. Personally am going with the earlier date as this fits better with when I am likely to have conceived... Although I guess it doesn't really matter as its not likely to come on the exact date either way! My belly definitely feels bigger at the end of the day, but not sure whether it actually is, or if its just more uncomfortable then.
Have a good day everyone!

TarkaTheOtter · 25/06/2013 09:22

Yes I have a bump that magically deflates over night every night.

Penny31 · 25/06/2013 09:50

I have that type of bump too. Although today it's big already this morning! It's more like rolls of fat over the top of trousers when I sit down though, so not attractive! I also have developed a hideously dry scalp. When will I bloom please?

BuntCadger · 25/06/2013 10:19

I don't get on here enough to fully keep up and by time I do it's often late at night and I'm exhausted.

Just marking place again, scan on Thursday so ill try and update on that. Re dates lmp puts me at 1/1/14 but sneaky scan by consultant put me 14/1/14 so going to see what scan on Thursday says. I doubt ill go past edd or that they'll let me as my babies have been large for my size. They'd booked me for induction with dd for day after edd but she arrived on due day by herself! 9lb3
