New thread as we appear to be talking a fair bit!

Lets hope we've all given birth by the end of this one :-)

Babybeann · 20/06/2013 09:46

aloha- sounds like hard work. its something ive always worried about my ds is 16 months and very much a baby still. im a stay at home mum so no going to nursery/child mimders. hoping i can keep him in the same routine as its taken so long to get him in one. hope things get better for you being a mummy is hard work!!

AmIGoingMad · 20/06/2013 10:57

That's true gina I'm always the same when I've seen it at a lower price then it goes up again. So frustrating!

And I really need to look into Ewan don't I?!

pinkapples · 20/06/2013 11:05

Ok so baby starts crying literally an hour after her feed... Mummy refuses to feed so soon... Daddy suggests trying out the sling see if it fits/baby is ok in it (we have a outdoor trek one as doing a dog walk later with the in laws and don't want to take pram... Baby gets in sling and instantly calms ahhhh peace hehe thinking may need to invest in one of the fabric ones for around the house Grin

Oh and all this talk of a Ewan? What is this magical thing I am have never heard of?

ginauk84 · 20/06/2013 11:24

Well we bought one, £10 off discount code for toys r us and 6% cash back through Quidco so not so bad, should make life easy and stop anyone moaning about how we make bottles up lol!

Ewan - looked at it on eBay, are you playing the womb sound to them and does it not keep you awake while they're in your room?

We have a Moby wrap ready for her when she arrives so hoping can use that to walk dogs (got so many stiles round us going to struggle with pushchair) and do housework. As long as it doesn't hurt my back and shoulders too much is my only worry.

Sarah2506 · 20/06/2013 11:40

Ewan the Dream sheep! Google him, or find him on the John Lewis website:-)

Anyone else finding babies drinking madly now it's hot? I refused to believe she was hungry but then midwife reminded me that its drinking as well as eating and that she might just be more thirsty in the heat. She feeds just for a little while to get the watery milk at the beginning.

SunnyL · 20/06/2013 11:40

Yes we're playing the sounds of the womb. The twinkly music is way too annoying, Believe me Gina you'll prefer the sounds of the womb to the sounds of a screaming baby!

Pink here is a link to Ewan. We got ours from the NCT online shop as couldn't find it in an actual shop round here.

AmIGoingMad · 20/06/2013 11:56

Well done on finding a cheaper way if getting it!Smile

We have a Moby too- washed it ready yesterday and can't believe how much material there is! We also got a baby hawk to try a bit later on. Fingers crossed baby likes at least one Smile

pinkbear82 · 20/06/2013 12:49

grrr today is one of those days. everything seems to be against me and I'm going round in circles.

also have the dsc from tonight until Sunday. which would be fine if dp ex hadn't already been on the phone reminding us the girls need equal times with the baby or its not fair. the fact we are helping her out this weekend so she can go out seems to have escaped her.

I could rant for hours but won't! might try a nap instead.

good to here ewan is a big help... might have to go sheep shopping myself!

peppinagiro · 20/06/2013 13:06

Babybeann - I'm having a girl too :) and I'm with you - really can't face the thought of still being pregnant in a week's time. Also driving myself a bit demented thinking about how, by my ovulation dates, my due date should actually not be until 28th. Scan brought it forward 3 days. Worried that the later date is more accurate and I've got even longer than I thought to go :(

Intrigued by this Ewan the dream sheep. Am off to investigate! X

Sunbeam18 · 20/06/2013 14:19

Well, went for sweep at 40+2 and the midwife couldn't do it as his head is still too high. More waiting...
Might research Ewan the sheep now!

rrreow · 20/06/2013 14:56

Tip: don't drink a cup of tea while you have a baby strapped to your chest. Cue profuse sweating!

Does anyone else's baby do a massive poo as soon as you've changed them into a fresh nappy? Anyone else on this thread using real nappies?

Aloha DS1 has been alright so far. Quite caring actually. What we've done is be really casual about the baby. So we're not 'selling' the concept to him (not saying "come to look at your brother" or "do you like your little brother" or stuff like that), but rather letting him adjust to it at his own pace, and let him approach the baby at his own pace.

We've kept his routines (nursery, DH and I alternate bedtimes, his weekly bath with DH, dinner as a family) and are not compensating for the baby's arrival in the way of letting him get away with more stuff or anything like that. We're trying to be really consistent and maintain the same boundaries as before.

What we ARE doing consciously is giving him more one-on-one attention. Sometimes I'll specifically put the baby down in his car seat or something so I can get on the floor and play with DS1 or give him a cuddle. Also something he loves is when I cradle him in my arms, shower him with kisses and tell him he's my baby. When he approaches DS2 and acts gently (stroking him or something like that) I'll praise him and tell him he's being really gentle. Also when I've had a good night (unlike last night, awake between 3.30-6am!) then when DS1 wakes up DH will get him and put him in our bed and we'll have a family cuddle. When I'm feeding DS2 I can't do much in the way of playing with DS1 but I encourage him to bring me books and I can read them to him (I can feed hands free due to awesome nursing chair and good placement of nursing pillow).

Hope some of the above helps! I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop and DS1 to turn into a defiant nightmare...

AmIGoingMad · 20/06/2013 15:35

Pink sorry to hear your having a rubbish day.

Rreow thanks for those tips!

Pepp- I'm the same. My dates have me closer to the 30th than the 25th. Hope the scan one is more realistic !

Sunbeam- sorry that sweep couldn't happen!

ginauk84 · 20/06/2013 16:16

Yep I'm the same, reckon am actually due 1st July but scan said 27th June so we shall see

RueDeWakening · 20/06/2013 16:17

Rrreow - just got my cloth out, need to bung it in the washer but M will be in it tomorrow or over the weekend Grin got to love a fluffy bum!

ginauk84 · 20/06/2013 16:23

Re Ewan the sheep I have just discovered an iPhone app called Sound Sleeper with womb sounds on it and it's free so have just downloaded that :). So anyone thinking of buying a Ewan might want to try that first see if it helps?

Sarah2506 · 20/06/2013 17:58

With Ewan it's not just the noise but the fact he glows red which is also comforting, and provides a handy night light!

ginauk84 · 20/06/2013 18:02

Yep have got a nightlight, it projects a rainbow, I love it, have the room thermometer too which is a nightlight. Might have too much light lol!

Midwife apt didn't go too well she measured me the same as I was at 34 weeks so has referred me for a growth scan tomoz or Monday, hoping I get in tomoz as don't really want to wait weekend. Said my bump was very twitchy so hopefully means she's getting ready! Fingers crossed! Just hoping fluid levels are okay as she has felt very hard but then hubby has just measured me and am fine on that measure, it was a different midwife so am hoping her measure is just out!

Olimoss · 20/06/2013 18:38

OMG the mythical witching hours of late afternoon/evening are true. A tragedy.

If I have wine that'll definitely help J go to sleep, yes?

AmIGoingMad · 20/06/2013 18:46

Ha oli! Hope the witching hours improve!

Gina I think the measure thing is a little crazy at times. I don't think it takes into account those who are tiny to begin with and the measuring us hardly scientific! That said at least you'll get another peek at baby!

Any news mrsbri?

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 18:57

No, AmI. The midwife wasn't concerned and kept referring me to the old guidelines of 10 movements in 12 hours which wound me up a bit as I wanted to talk about change in pattern. She said to have a cold drink and see what happened. Thankfully Baby B perked up then and has been a loon ever since!

I didn't make it out to have my blood pressure checked either, but will see about that tomorrow. I've slept for a good deal of today :-/

Any sign of more babies anywhere yet?

OP posts:
AmIGoingMad · 20/06/2013 19:04

I'm even more tired than usual today too- must be something in the air!

It is frustrating about the 10 movements thing- that's what my mw always focuses on too.

Just getting DS sorted for bed and can't see me being far behind him tonight.

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 19:15

I think it's a lack of air as it is so stuffy, AmI.

I just want baby to come along now...it's a reasonable request, surely?!

Officially (even if not really) overdue tomorrow.

It's interesting that those of us bringing up the rear mostly feel our scan dates are wrong and we are due a touch later. Bring on Tuesday's sweep!
