New thread as we appear to be talking a fair bit!

Lets hope we've all given birth by the end of this one :-)

AmI - my pump is an Ameda Lactaline, it's great - the same technology as hospital breast pumps use and SO much quieter than the Medela one I had before (mini electric). I've used the Avent manual one too, which I found pretty good but I was perma-pumping for DS1 and it just didn't cut it, I was getting RSI from using it every 3 hours day and night.

rrreow · 18/06/2013 14:41

I've got the Avent electric which also converts to manual. It works really well for me. Agree with Rue the Medela Mini sounds like it's going to take off Grin Also that one just couldn't get the milk out for me (and I have no problem with the Avent, could get 125ml in 10-15 mins with DS1, haven't tried yet this time). Horses for courses.

No I don't think CS is an easy option at all, would be my worst possible outcome also as I want to be myself again as soon as she's here and would hate the recovery period after a CS. Think hubby would faint if I had one too lol!

pinkapples · 18/06/2013 15:03

I've got a avent electric to and its great can get 2/3oz every 10 mins so enough for a feed in 10 mins

arlandria666 · 18/06/2013 15:48

wahoooo finally discharged from the midwife Elliott is 6lb now, 6 oz more than birth weight and 9 oz more than he was last week! such a relief!
i haven't got anything to compare my c section with as Elliott is my first but the recovery was much better than i thought it was going to be (not saying it was easy by any means)
i hired an electric pump after struggling with manuel its the ameda lactaline be sad when i have to give it back

Sarah2506 · 18/06/2013 15:53

red I took the comments simply to mean that it must be nice to have the certainty over the date. I personally did like that aspect of it- glossing over the fact they actually only confirmed mine the day before! I've never thought of it as an easy option. My personal experience was that the first 24 hours were rough and now I have some pain every day, contrasted with natural birth ladies who have it all front loaded and then less after the event- massive generalisation I know, but probably true of straightforward births with no complications.

I hope you don't take it to heart and leave the forum. I feel like I know those of you who have been posting for months and it would be a shame for you to leave us now as we get past the births and the early days and firmly into discussions of wee, poo, nipple ache and sleeplessness:-)

AmIGoingMad · 18/06/2013 16:47

That's great news arlandria!

And thanks for the pump recommendations! Smile

No news from stef or coffee? Hopefully they'll be enjoying newborn hugs!Smile

Time for a hot curry...

curiousgeorgie · 18/06/2013 17:43

I'm sitting now sniffing clary sage and debating massaging my bump with it.

Anyone know anything about Black Cohosh? A friend has bought it for me...

learnermummy · 18/06/2013 17:48

I've been massaging my bump with diluted clary sage at night. Not heard of black cohosh

Steffanoid · 18/06/2013 17:54

ok, hi guys, thanks for all tge god luck messages, I'll try to explain everything thats happened in tge last 24 hours while om high on drugs!

so my waters did go at 3:40 yesterday, came to triage and there was a tiny bit of meconiun in tge pad but thats just cause of his maturity, I however had protein in my pee and high BP, so they sent bloods off, contractions were coming, got assessed and they said I was 2 cm but were gonna keep me in cause they were getting stronger, ended up till 4 am with paracetamol and codine, had a shot of morphine stuff, which gave me 2 hours of sleep cause it's an opiate, oh had gone home at about half 12 cause I was on the induction bay, que lots of horrid contractions and oh came back for half 8 when they were ramping back up,i had been for a bath, and had more codine and paracetamol, got to 4 cm, o came through to labour ward, being constantly monitored cause of the BP and protein,

got some.lovely gas and air and more of tge morphine injection, got to 9 cm in a short space of time, gotvhooked into everything, saline, magnesium, cathetar epidural etc

because of my BP tgey actually suggested that it would be. better for me with tge epidural as it can help keep.it down, am fully dilated, waiting to push, cant feel a thing, but should meet my boy in.the next couple of hours Grin

Steffanoid · 18/06/2013 17:56

sorry about typos and nonsensical sentences, think im rather loopy on drugs

pinkbear82 · 18/06/2013 18:00

wow steff! high on anything and u make perfect sense! hoping u are now pushing and are soon enjoying snuggles.
congratulations!!

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 18/06/2013 18:43

Ooo...now that is what you call a live update! Hope all is going well, good luck!

Sunbeam18 · 18/06/2013 18:52

Fantastic, Steff - our first update from the heart of things! Sounds like you are doing great. You will be stealing my due date - jealous! X

ginauk84 · 18/06/2013 19:08

My babycenter app says this about cohosh:

Blue cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides) and black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosus) are herbs which are thought by some to be useful in bringing on labour. However, we can't be sure that they are safe to use, or that they are effective.

Blue cohosh, in particular, has been linked with severe complications for the baby at birth.

Given that there is a question mark hanging over them, you may decide that it is better to steer clear of these herbs entirely.

learnermummy · 18/06/2013 19:29

Wow exciting Steffanoid good luck x

AmIGoingMad · 18/06/2013 19:49

Oh my goodness stef! That's certainly a live update! I hope you're cuddling baby by now! Good luck!Smile

massagegirl · 18/06/2013 20:08

Good luck steff!
That's a shame red, I've found this a supportive group and don't think anyone thinks cs is easy option. Think it was more it would nice to have a date when baby is coming rather than waiting for due date not anything to do with cs being easier!

peppinagiro · 18/06/2013 20:26

Wow, so impressed that Steff managed to put such a lucid update together right in the thick of labour! Good luck, and hope your little one gets here safely! X

forgetmenots · 18/06/2013 20:35

Oh steff, good luck, wow that you were able to update from the labour suite!! Hope you're enjoying snuggles by now
:)

RueDeWakening · 18/06/2013 21:06

Good luck steff!

Mawgatron · 18/06/2013 21:38

Sunny, Baxter hates the Moses basket too but he settles really well in our carry cot which is fine for overnight sleeping. It might be worth a try if you have one?

Impressed with your dedication to the thread steff, at nine cm, all I was capable of was demanding more drugs and shouting 'I'm gonna poo!!' repeatedly! Hope you are snuggling now, it's the most amazing feeling!

Another milestone today- I have left the house! Just a quick 10 min walk to boots with DH and tiny baby for nipple cream, maternity pads and apricots but get, I got to put real clothes on and everything! It has also meant that I can sort out my breast feeding bags. One for bedroom, one for lounge. I have out everything I need in them so I don't have to fuck about moving stuff from room to room, or sitting down and realising I don't have something. In each bag I have put the following: lansinoh, paracetamol, ibuprofen, chewable vit c, dried apricots, nuts and raisins, pen and paper, nipple leakage pads. Sorted!

Have breast feeders out there tried Savoy cabbage yet? Oh my, it is heaven!! My poor nips have taken an utter beating since Friday, but mum bought me some nipple shields so I may give those a go tomorrow.

Stitches feel a bit better today, although they bled a little after my jaunt into town. Midwife coming tomorrow for heel prick test so I will ask her to check them out...

Right, going to get a couple of hours kip till this feeding monster wakes up again.

curiousgeorgie · 18/06/2013 21:54

Steff you're amazing providing a 9cm update!!

Hope you're cuddling your little one right now Smile I'm eagerly awaiting an update!

AmIGoingMad · 18/06/2013 22:38

Off to try to sleep now and hoping stef has babe in arms!

Have had one or two cramps feelings but nothing to write home about.
