so glad everything is ok flyer xx

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 18/06/2013 12:59

I was helping in DD's class for a couple of hours this morning and, when they were lining up ready to go to assembly, one little girl asked me in a very serious voice if there was something wrong with my tummy.

I told her there was a baby growing in there and she looked so horrified I had to stop myself from laughing.

Can I pick the brains of the primary teachers on this thread? I think DD had her Year 1 phonics test yesterday (came home with a "good effort" sticker and told me about reading a book 1-2-1 with her teacher with real words and 'alien' words). Do parents normally get to know how their individual child got on? Or is it more of an assessment of the school's teaching/year group as a whole?

Bit worried as DD finds reading much harder than we expected she would. I think she is doing ok in comparison with the national average but there are a surprising number of very talented children in her class (ORT stage 10 already) and I think it gives the impression she's behind.

MotherOfNations · 18/06/2013 13:10

So relieved for you flyer I had sharp pains low down on my right side last night that panicked me a bit then I dreamt I was in labour and woke up with sore stomach muscles. I think I was just tensing them in my sleep because of the dream.
These babies are too much worry inside where we can't see them.

Flyer747 · 18/06/2013 14:01

I hope you feel a little less down soon roofio, it's all these raging hormones. Does your DP know you are feeling low? X

Flyer747 · 18/06/2013 14:02

Very true MoN they are a worry aren't they just! I never thought having a baby on board would fill me with such worry and anxiety.

JellyCurls · 18/06/2013 14:07

Flyer glad your baby is ok and just being a wee monkey!

My concern over bikini wearing is mainly did to fact that I tan very easily and wonder how awful a tanned crinkly post birth belly will look against my white bits. i have a vision of the old woman out of something about mary in my head

On a more annoying note the underwire of my bra has popped today and has been having a look at my pc over the top of my top Hmm how could I not have noticed that happening?

Flyer747 · 18/06/2013 14:09

Haha jellycurls magda off something about Mary! My friends call me her because Iove sunbathing....I know what you mean though.

roofio87 · 18/06/2013 14:31

yes flyer I've told dp all about it, otherwise he'd think he'd done something wrong!! have explained there is no reason behind it. I'm sure I'll pick up soon.
just had two mini apple pies and custard for lunch, it cheered me up so why not!!Smile

chickieno1 · 18/06/2013 15:08

Hi everyone! Haven't been on for a while as away visiting my brother but all caught up on thread now.

Good baby is ok flyer

Hope the laryngitis and carpal tunnel improve orange and pseudo

As for the GTT very variable who they test! In the states they test everybody! Main risks are bmi, family history of diabetes, measuring large for dates, previous GD and other related conditions like hypothyroidism and PCOS. AFAIK being mixed race is not a risk factor feminist. Do you have a fam history? Maybe in your area they have a high number of mr people with diabetes?? Also decision based on bmi at booking but obviously things can change during course of pregnancy.

Meant to ask on last thread clapham how was anniversary dinner? Did you get to meet Michelle Roux jr? He's yummy :)

I'm sure I've forgotten something............

chickieno1 · 18/06/2013 15:10

clapham, cuilles and soup I'm also in the geriatric mums group :)

Today is my 38th birthday :)

I can't believe it

chickieno1 · 18/06/2013 15:11

Michel not Michelle doh

chickieno1 · 18/06/2013 15:14

Congrats on pregnancy LPP

No great maternity clothes advice here. Maxi dresses a good idea. Have top shop mat jeans but live in leggings mot of the time.

Have a bra phobia at the minute. Cannot bear wearing them at all. Not very big maybe 36 B or C have to go get measured :(

chickieno1 · 18/06/2013 15:15

Ok will stop talking to myself now lol

cazboldy · 18/06/2013 15:34

Happy Birthday chick

cuillereasoupe · 18/06/2013 16:17

Do you have a fam history?

I read that as "ham factory" for a moment and thought WTF?

Anyway I can report one more boy for the list! Bang on size and weight, and everything fine. DP's granny (94) is delighted to have a boy to carry on the family name, which is about as common as Smith, but never mind Wink

cuillereasoupe · 18/06/2013 16:18

Oh and happy birthday Chickien!

roxvox · 18/06/2013 16:19

Glad all is good Flyer!

I wish I could remember what my assumption of what pregnancy is like was before now. I am pretty sure that it was very different to this though!

Happy Birthday Chickieno1! Are you up to anything nice today?

Umlauf · 18/06/2013 16:25

Happy Birthday chick hope you're having a lovely day!! Definitely go and get measured. I'm waiting on a 32g push up bra at the moment as my current massive bra makes me feel dowdy as it pushes me down and out, minimised style!

I'm feeling pretty good about myself at the moment. Its all down to the zara jeans and flowy maternity vests I reckon! As soon as my bikini is delivered and I have to try it on the self-revulsion will come flooding back. Grr pregnancy does not sit well with me!

flyer so relieved for you, and lovely to hear the heartbeat again! Absolutely better to check things over rather than worry.

Does anyone else live in rental accommodation? Are you doing anything about a nursery? How are you decorating? I'm feeling the guilt about not having a room for our son to call his own, especially as everything feels so temporary wrt how long we'll be in Spain. I keep seeing amazing ideas on Pinterest and I can't do anything for my little man :-(

MotherOfNations · 18/06/2013 16:27

Happy Birthday Chickie
Maybe just measure yourself for a bra using the method on the bra threads. It all gives me the same measurement as a Bravissimo fitting so it's pretty accurate.

Shirehobbit · 18/06/2013 16:39

Glad you and the LO is ok, flyer

I too am a hormonal nightmare today - kept it in at work, but I am a seething mass that is dangerously close to exploding in a rage or flood of tears.
It's not fun.
I should probably hang a warning notice around my neck, so DH knows to tread on eggshells tonight...

cazboldy · 18/06/2013 16:42

Umlauf we are not rented as such, but tied accomodation ( rent and council tax and water/sewage rates free with dh's job!)

I can't do much anyway as baby will be in with us for at least the first year, but need to change the room layout so there is room for the crib/cot and want some new curtains (i hate the old ones, but they were all i had that fitted when we moved in!)

then depending on boy/girl it will go in with it's brothers / sisters.

We have always lived in tied accomdation though, and with previous babies i painted walls and used those sticker/transfer things to brighten things up - but you can just peel them off if you have to leave!

roofio87 · 18/06/2013 16:53

yes umlauf and caz we rent and am planning on making baby's room a bit nicer with re peeling wall stickers when he gets in there too. a nice room for lo is nice but I'm not going to get too worked up about it, he'll have the most loving home and a roof over his head so I'm sure he'll be just fine!

BowlFullofJelly · 18/06/2013 17:04

The wall stickers are great - some of DS's are still up after 2.5 year and moving house.

Happy birthday Chick - are you doing anything nice?

Congrats on the scan cuillerea - sounds like out little girls are going to be spoilt for choice in a few years!

roxvox · 18/06/2013 17:04

I am finding it so hard to focus at work. I am counting down the minutes to 5.30 every single day it seems. It's bad!

Natalieand · 18/06/2013 17:11

Glad everything is good with baby flyer

Sorry so many of you ladies are feeling peed off/upset etc. sounds like we're all feeling similar maybe its cos were past the highs of 20 week scans and half way marks and now its just the long countdown of the last 15-20 weeks

We rent a 2 bed property umlauf and it is unlikely we will be in a position to move anytime soon ATM dd (age 2) room is pink pink pink but I've brought some lilac and some aqua type colour paint (it sounds bad but I've seen it in a magazine it looked nice in there lol) and hoping to paint the room those colour and do one end a little boy theme and one end for dd so she still has a little space for herself .xx
