totally, dinky and thinking thats reassuring to hear people do have good inductions, thank you, I hope it doesn't get to that point for me but I guess if it does ill have to see how I feel nearer the time

Persuasion · 10/06/2013 15:51

dinky 'happydural' made me snort, was it a typo, a Freudian slip or deliberate? Grin

icing this is my first, and I also feel nervous about the possibility of going overdue and having to be induced, I think it's pretty normal to worry. The positive induction stories thread made me feel much calmer about it.

Shelley I have no idea about music in labour. I really hadn't thought about it. Think I'll take my iPod and see if I feel like anything. I've been using natal hypnotherapy so was planning on listening to the preparation CDs in the early stages to get myself in the right mindset.

Today is my first day of maternity leave, and it's great! I've got a list of jobs which is keeping me busy, had a nice walk into town to pick up a few bits and am now going to bake a cake and defrost the freezer nesting, me, never the woman in Holland and Barrett suggested using several raspberry leaf tea bags in the bath as well as drinking it, has anyone ever heard of this? Confused sounds slightly mad to me!

We had a lovely catch up with friends over lunch yesterday, but never made it to a museum as we were too busy chatting!

dinkystinky · 10/06/2013 16:01

Twasnt me with the happydural - was Totally, our resident anaesthetist, so doubtless totally deliberate! Never heard of raspberry leaf tea bags in the bath - though have heard of other stuff being added if you're in early labour (lavendar, clary sage etc.).

IcingTheCake · 10/06/2013 16:34

persuasion i think I may have to give it a little read, problem is i go from being scared to in denial of course she won't dare be late Grin I suppose the outcome is always the same really Smile hope your enjoying your first day of mat leave! Never heard of raspberry tea bags in the bath, cant hurt i suppose? Grin

Forced myself to tidy the living room today - a proper pulling all the sofas and tables out job, took an hour and a half to do half - the half that just happens to be the one my dad and brother sit on Hmm the other half isn't nearly as bad but will do it tomorrow before moving onto the kitchen, were having the whole family over on Saturday (30+ people) and i told my parents I'd tidy the house if i could use their booker card to buy the food and drink Grin dont know why i had the crazy idea to invite the whole family over but hey, should be fun! Smile
Weekend is here! Hooray to those who start maternity leave now Smile

IcingTheCake · 10/06/2013 18:11

Ignore last bit on last post its Monday, completely the opposite of a weekend, i was quite shocked to discover this! Confused

TotallyEggFlipped · 10/06/2013 18:41

Shelley we're still struggling to reach a proper agreement on names. Boys names seem to be particularly difficult to reach a compromise on. DH wants to use a family name from his side, but I hate all the names he suggests & my argument is that he already gets his family surname. If there's going to be a family name in the mix, it should be from my side. I'd only use a family name as a middle name, but DH wants to use it as a first name. I'm hoping we can reach some kind of compromise to get a short list before the baby arrives......

Persuasion & dinky t'was indeed deliberate. I can't help calling them happydurals!

Cheeseandbread · 10/06/2013 19:25

I'm being naughty and sneaking on while I should be report writing... Icing I wish it was the weekend!!!

I had my 34 week appointment today and discussed birth plan- midwife said I will need to be on the labour ward rather than midwife led unit because of antibiotics needed for group b strep- bit upset by this Sad might still get a birth pool as they have one in the labour ward though.

Hope everyone has had good Mondays- will pop on later before sleep.

shelley72 · 10/06/2013 19:43

totally so what makes them happydurals? i ask because i was SO stressed at the thought of having a c section with DD that i am sure the anaesthetist (who was lovely) put something very nice indeed in my spinal block. to try and calm me down. how could i find out? i would love to have her again this time and more of the same please she even let me eat (lightly) on the morning of the section as she didnt believe in starving pregnant ladies!

the name thing is so hard isnt it? the only name that DH has come up with that i dont mind so much was actually the name of my paternal GF. but then i dont want to risk upsetting/offending my lovely maternal GF who is a fab grandad and great grandad. i like quite safe traditional names, and 'old lady' names from my great grandparents era. may have to sit down with the baby name book again i think...

dinkystinky · 10/06/2013 20:36

I think people are so happy to get them they tell Totally that Shelley :-)

No agreement on boys names here either - girls name sorted but boys name we are miles apart on.

Cheese - I'm sorry you had a disappointing mW appt. Having a birth on labour ward doesn't mean you can't use water or have the birth you want though. Good luck with the report writing.

princessllama · 10/06/2013 20:36

hello, am sitting on the birthing ball surrounded by all the things that i should be doing. feels most peculiar to know it's all happening tomorrow. have been inundated by texts wishing me luck (some people are brilliant aren't they, not badgering with phone calls, funny though, as it's all my favourite people who i wouldn't mind speaking to!)
my kind friend has just delivered 2 bags of tiny babygros. i was not prepared and only have huge ones as i tend to have 8lb plus babies. this will be a novelty.
i found the link bb talked about on mnet positive induction and was fab, turned my brain around. am still hoping for a bit of time in water although water birth is out as is non managed 3rd stage due to the cholestasis. if i can avoid the 4 hr drip after the birth that they recommend i will be happy.
we are still slightly tussling over names-i know one of you has an aurelia which i think is brill but dh is fixed on another name.
i am far more concerned about how we will cope with 3rd baby than i am about the birth.-prob change by 7am though!
cant remember who was talking about playlist for birth?-i found last time that anything classical was rubbish but loved aretha and nina simone. have added blurred lines song today too-far from whale music!
am so itchy and feeling sicky that tomorrow seems a great time to be induced.
vinegar-glad you sorted your ear. sorry for your poorly ears abz.
elliej-glad you are home and ezekiel is doing well.

Ooh good luck princessllama. Didn't realise it was tomorrow for you. Hope you manage to get some rest tonight!

VinegarDrinker · 10/06/2013 20:47

Oooh good luck for tomorrow princessllama !

dinky he seems like a twat as an adult too so I'm not surprised! Only read the thread title but he's an author now?! Of what?!

dinkystinky · 10/06/2013 21:06

Best of luck for tomorrow Princessllama - will be thinking of you and hope all goes really smoothly.

Vinegar - no idea!

VinegarDrinker · 10/06/2013 21:09

Ok just had a nosy - he's written a memoir apparently! Tbh he isn't coming across badly IMO.

Disaster has struck here - finally got my birth ball down from the attic but absolutely no idea where the bloody pump is. Grumble grumble grump!

TotallyEggFlipped · 10/06/2013 21:10

Good luck for tomorrow, princessllama!

dinkystinky · 10/06/2013 21:11

Can't you use one of your bike pumps Vinegar?

VinegarDrinker · 10/06/2013 21:14

I thought it just used a normal bike/football pump but apparently I misremembered. Only £4 for a replacement on the website but just annoyed as it'll take a few days to arrive.

Trauma no. 2 this evening - I now officially have an outie. DS and DH think it is hilarious Sad

dinkystinky · 10/06/2013 21:19

Be out and proud I say Vinegar :-)

Thinkingof4 · 10/06/2013 22:26

princess good luck tomorrow, my sister is having a baby tomorrow too! (elcs)
Babies are arriving all the time, v exciting Grin

Cheeseandbread · 10/06/2013 22:33

Oooooooooh good luck Princess

Vinegar I have an outie now too Blush

Thanks for the reassurance Dinky I just had the midwife led unit in my head as a relaxing place and the labour ward as somewhere with machines and wires... I haven't even been in to look yet so it's all in my head... I need to book a tour of the hospital. Hopefully it will all be fine.

Sleep time for me, sweet dreams everyone.

cheekbyjowl · 10/06/2013 23:12

just catching up but reading posts newest first. for a moment I thought dinky was suggesting the bike pump for vinegars ear...which seemed a little extreme! birth ball makes more sense And glad less drastic measures cured the earSmile

princess good luck. ooooo aurelia is a fantastic name, reminds me of love actually...you should keep encouraging your dh to agree it... just in cases Smile . will look forward to the update in the morn.

totally you should trademark the happydural name and sell it to gsk or something. it sounds like something I want

shelley I've missed an update somewhere, whats happening are you planning an elcs as the babies in breech? I think I'm becoming forgetful, sorry

I know ohgood asked the question before but what do you ladies think of ecv? would you have one? at my 34 week appt sprog was in.breech, so.far I've been asked to go to the birth centre for my next appt on friday but didn't ask why, theyve not yet discussed options but hoping they will do.

dinkystinky · 11/06/2013 06:15

Cheek - I reckon our stealth medics are best placed to advise on ECV. Have you looked at the spinning babies website too a its got exercises/positions on it that can help encourage a breech baby to turn.

Cheese - labour ward is set up with all the equipment for complicated births if needed - but there's no reason to think any of those will be needed for your birth. I'd suggest making it clear on your birth plan you're there because of the abs for strep b and are hoping for an active birth and you'd appreciate the midwives assistance on this. Also ask to keep monitoring/drs rounds to a minimum unless medically indicated, turn the lights down low, and just get on with bringing that little baby into the world as you'd like to.

Cheeseandbread · 11/06/2013 06:28

Thanks for your positivity Dinky that sounds like a plan!

photographerlady · 11/06/2013 08:26

Morning all. Sorry been so lazy as the Facebook group makes it so easy to chat.

Lazy pregnant days for me now. Already one full week of leave gone by and mainly been playing mmos (computer games) and watching movies with the DH. I guess my one last horrah before I have to be a grown up.

princess good luck

vinegar aww an outie, I always love seeing pregnant woman with their little button poking out from their shirt.

shelley hope things are going alright

SundaySunshine · 11/06/2013 09:45

Good luck princess hope everything goes well Grin Thanks enjoy those snugly newborn cuddles Smile will the OC settle down after birth?

Got some really cheap nappies from Aldi, they look fine. I might treat the little man to pampers at first but think these Aldi ones will do the job just as well for more than half the price.

We're still at loggerheads over a name too. I can think of a whole football team of girls names but really stuck on boys. DH says he should be able to choose it as I chose DD name, but he chose all her middles names, and as someone else pointed out, he gets to pass on his surname too. I think I'd like a trad English name to go with DD who is Florence. Any suggestions would be welcome!

Where's all the sunshine gone? Can't fit into my trousers anymore so I'm freezing in dresses having lost my mama tights, ach!
