Hello everyone and welcome to what I am sure will be the final ever Due in April 2013 thread! Sad Grin

Only a few of us left still holding on and fingers crossed we will all pop within the first few pages of this thread

So let me kick off...

I am currently 40+11 and due to be admitted to hospital tomorrow to start induction. I've been told to expect a May birth as my cervix is still high and very closed!

Lets get everyone else checked in who is still holding on and all the other April ladies can wave the pom poms and send labour vibes to those of us yet to have our lovely newborn snuggles.

Welcome Supershiv. We've had a premature superstar on this thread in the form of Alexander, son of Mama, who was born at 25 weeks and is now a bouncing six month old so you're in good company. Hope your Oliver continues to make good progress.

MrsB, we're due date buddies so let's make a pact to produce on the same day and we'll not leave anyone behind, yes?!

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/05/2013 08:42

Hello to supershiv. Congratulations on your arrival! It's totally up to you if you want to join our post-natal thread - we had many early arrivals and as bext says, our little miracle Alex is a fantastic example of survival against the odds!

Still rooting for those of you waiting! :)

Supershiv1 · 06/05/2013 10:50

Oooooh, is mama on much as I was 25 wks too and could do with some inspiration? I can't find many with similar stories to mine as Oliver was only 565g & I gave birth at home and hubby had to resuscitate so the fact he is still here is a miracle and he's been given less odds than a heavier hospital born 25 weeker.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 06/05/2013 10:55

Yes she's on lots! Pop over and have a look. Alex just passed his due date and now weighs over 7lb! I bet she wouldn't mind you PMing her either...

Mama1980 · 06/05/2013 20:16

Hi supershiv, as the other ladies have said my ds Alex was born at 24 1/2 weeks in December my due date was the 1st of April. I hope its ok If i send you a pm. X

Still waving Pom poms and cheering for everyone still waiting- hurry up babies Grin xxx

hi ladies - sorry for not updating in a while. my little baby boy was born on may 2nd at 40+1 week. i had to be sweeped as the amniotic fluid was reducing and baby but thank god i started contractions he day i was sweeped. my little boy and i are doing fine - just my stitches hurt too much as i had to be cut down there as his wasn't coming down.

many congratulations to all the new mums - hope everyone is doing fine.

was wondering if anyone is having issues with breastfeeding. imgoing crazy as my baby is always hungry and looks like im not producing enough milk to satisfy him which is really depressing me. i would love to breastfeed him. does anyone have any tip on how to increase milk? is anyone else facing this problem - if yes, how r u coping up with it? please help...

HadALittleFaithBaby · 07/05/2013 07:40

Hi Notting, congratulations on the birth of your DS! We are BF after a shaky start. What specific problems are you having? When you say you don't think you're producing enough milk - is that based on how much he's feeding or a lack of weight gain? DD has what I call 'feeding frenzies' - she can be on the boob for 4/5 hours with very little break. However the midwife team and health visitor are happy that she's gaining weight. Apparently the feeding frenzy thing is totally normal and just an indicator of growth spurts. I just try to get comfy, make sure I have plenty to drink and have snacks to hand and ride it out. The more it happens the easier I find it to cope with! Now that she's 3 weeks I have been expressing (just with a hand pump) and DH has given her a couple of bottles so that I can rest at times without her going hungry.
There are ways of increasing your milk production and how much they get from BF - I've been reading The womanly art of breastfeeding which I've found incredibly helpful.
However if your DS isn't gaining weight you need to speak to healthcare professionals - that's a different concern to just having a hungry baby!

KelleStar · 07/05/2013 19:21

Hi notting congratulations on your DS. I am a second timer and DS is so different from DD, he feeds furiously and in short goes, about 15-20 mins, until mid afternoon/early evening where he just wants to be on the boob for 4 hours or so. He is now 11 days old and gained 10.5oz since birth!!!

I agree with faith that you should seek help if he isn't gaining, but if he is gaining keep going with it, your supply responds to his needs. It can take a few days for the response though, I always had a little worry about it, every time.

With DD I 'roomed in' spent lots of time in jammies, drinking plenty of water and some good snacks/meals in the house, mostly in bed, reading a book while having her attached to the boob pretty constantly. I did this at pretty much every growth spurt, it helped my supply adjust, being relaxed helps.

Try the BF/FF threads here on MN, or www.kellymom.com hope that's the right link, for some good advice.

It is by far the hardest thing I have had to do, but it can be very rewarding.

nottinghillmom1234 · 08/05/2013 19:12

Thank you so much for your advice Faith & KelleStar So the midwife came today and we figure he's not latching properly and that's why hungry and cranky all the time. i'm finding it very hard and feel i'm keeping my baby hungry. I tried expressing milk today and only 2 0Z came out from both breasts and my baby is 6 days old. He needs 3 OZ in each feed - i know this as when he's very hungry i have to give him formula and he drinks 3 OZ - is that too much? I'm really losing confidence now :( Will check out the links you guys sent - in the meanwhile please let me know if there is anything else I can do - my husband is suggesting we switch to formula as it's taking a toll on me and no one can enjoy the baby as everyone is really stressed out :( I would like to BF but have zero confidence now as I feel I don't have enough milk :(

birdbrain17 · 08/05/2013 19:19

notting it can take time for your milk supply to be properly established, but being stressed won't help!! Come over onto the postnatal thread when you have time, a few people had problems starting and may have some advice for you. Main thing is to keep feeding and drinking lots to get your supply established, I was told to drink 2l a day which I've really been trying to do and seem to have too much milk so maybe you're not getting enough fluid?! good luck, you'll get there in the end as long as you keep trying x

nottinghillmom1234 · 08/05/2013 19:24

And yes, he's gained weight by 20 grams. So first he lost his birth weight by 4% then on the last visit mid wife told me he's gained 20 grams but he should have gained 40 grams as they say baby should gain 20 grams a day.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 08/05/2013 19:31

Remember as well, the more you bf, the more your supply will come in! We had to top up Faithlet to start with but now she's getting enough breast milk. You might find you can express more from one boob than the other. Also try expressing when you wake up - milk supply tends to increase overnight and I find I can usually get more off about 7am after she's fed.

Just keep offering the breast whenever he fusses. Are you using a bottle or cup? Do come over to the post-natal thread. You're not alone.

Teapig · 08/05/2013 19:36

Hi notting, congratulations on the birth of your little one!

We had a very shaky to start to BF but now seem to be in the swing of it. Like baby notting our little one didn't latch properly initially and I stoppef BF for a couple of days as it was agony. With the MWs help we got the latch right, trying different positions helped.

With milk supply the MWs advice was to keep feeding/expressing every three hours to keep supply up, that seems to have worked for us. I've been mix feeding when needed so topping up with formula when I need to. I'm not recommending it as I know the advice is to establish BF before introducing formula but it's worked for us. Teapiglet has formula if I can't fill her up but most of the time she has my milk now.

I'd say don't give up, it's early days so keep going with it if you can. Don't put any pressure on yourself though, a happy mum and happy baby are much more important than BF IMO. Wishing you luck xx

Mama1980 · 08/05/2013 20:41

Nottinghill- congratulations! Grin Thanks Do come over to the postnatal thread, you are not alone and there's loads of great advice being offered there.

phantomhairpuller · 08/05/2013 20:54

Being induced tomorrow Grin finally the end is in sight!

HadALittleFaithBaby · 08/05/2013 21:09

Bless you phantom, what a wait! :)

birdbrain17 · 09/05/2013 15:45

phantom finally!! Good luck for tomorrow can't wait to see you on the postnatal thread x

lili86 · 09/05/2013 16:58

Hi ladies, Congratulations on all the new arrivals! Our little girl arrived at 40+3. Mollie Rose Jane Rawlins arrived on 1st May, at 11.58am, weighing 8lbs! First contraction at 7.45am, took ds to school, phoned labour ward as contractions were 5-6mins apart but only lasting 30-40secs. Was told to phone if i needed to go in or phone ambulance if i got the urge to push.

Had a shower and by 11am i knew it was happening fast! Phoned dh at work snd he went shopping before coming home!!! Phoned again to get him home now as was pushing on bathroom floor- ALONE! Called ambulance which arrived at 11.39 and was in hospital at 11.49, waters broke and she was born 9mins later! 2nd degree tear again but a breeze compared to ds birth.

Totally in love! Are we all delivered yet?x

HadALittleFaithBaby · 09/05/2013 21:19

Crikey lil! Good job you called the ambulance! Did your DH arrive in time?! Well congratulations Thanks

can't be many left to drop now? Anyone still there lurking?!

bext · 09/05/2013 22:32

Congrats Lili, what a speedy arrival!

I'm still lurking. 41+3 and second sweep tomorrow. I think I'm the last though so I may as well just come over to the post natal thread now. They let you go to 42+2 here as I'm hoping for a home birth so it could conceivably be the end of next week before I've got a babe in arms if they don't induce me until next Wednesday/Thursday. Feel like this baby is just never ever going to come. Hmm

phantomhairpuller · 10/05/2013 08:47

He's finally here! Didn't need the induction after all, went into labour at 11pm Wednesday, hospital by 8am Thursday morning at 7cm dilated. Massive fluid bulge pressing on cervix and baby's head still quite high up. Finally decided to do ARM when I was at 9cm but head didn't come down and consequently my cervix went back to 4-5cm and wouldn't budge any further Hmm emergency section arranged after which I haemorrhaged so not the best of starts but am feeling much better now and baby is gorgeous Grin happy phantom!

HadALittleFaithBaby · 10/05/2013 09:10

Congratulations on the birth of your son phantom! What an entrance into the world! Take it easy while you recover. Does he have a name yet?

Mama1980 · 10/05/2013 09:34

Congratulations Lili and phantom Grin Thanks xxx
Is there anyone still waiting?

phantomhairpuller · 10/05/2013 10:48

No name yet faith, DH is set on Arthur but I'm not so sure. Oscar and Freddie are also possibilities Smile

Mama1980 · 10/05/2013 11:11

Love all your name choices phantom Smile
Bext- sorry I missed your post earlier, bless you- hurry up bext baby! Grin I hope your not too uncomfortable? X
