Will this one take us through to the end of the first trimester? Will the sickness ever end? Will we be able to judge genders from those first scan pictures? These and many other mysteries to be solved in... THREAD 4

Sal1977 · 18/03/2013 16:39

Whoever was talking about holidaying in the summer, I have 2 trips booked, one to see my mum in Spain at 14 weeks and get this (big fat boast alert) my friend just emailed to say she's blagged 3 nights in a spa in Palma including flights mid May (19 week i think) did I fancy it?????? Eerrrr, let me have a think...,haha, she's a travel writer so gets the very best work freebies!!!

Made my blinking day that has!!! Grin

Umlauf · 18/03/2013 16:42

Omg slippy you poor thing that sounds really traumatic! Why did that happen? Was your mouth closed? Eww! I really hope its a one off for you, at least the normal way you can down a load of mouthwash!

I was told I'd hear the heartbeat at the 12 week scan but am taking everything with a pinch of salt. I'd like to record it on my phone though!

tucking with you on the diarrhoea. It's fairly mild though, once a day usually. I've grown fascinated by bowel movements, DH and I eat exactly the same stuff yet have such different toilet regimes (oh god I know too much!)

Tucking no, I'm in West London. Clearly shite midwives are available the length and breadth of the country Smile.

Ooh good luck tomorrow Legally

I'm having a week in Spain at the start of May, will be about 19 weeks. Think most airlines are fine up until about 32 weeks, but check before you fly as some will want a doctors letter. Sal am envious of the free spa trip - that sounds lush (and better than my self catering in Spain running around after two year old so he doesn't drown) Envy

slippysnow · 18/03/2013 16:52

I've always been prone to throwing up due to undiagnosed condition maybe asthma related or acid reflux, tests have been inconclusive, I'd say around 20% of the time it comes through my nose. I thought this was because I had a deviated septum but I've had an operation to fix it. In summary I don't know, I think I'm poorly designed it may also be due to the angle. :(

slippysnow · 18/03/2013 16:58

Also, does anyone know if they are still carrying twins - I know we have had a fair few tragedies and unfortunately I've lost track

Natalieand · 18/03/2013 17:03

Oh god poor slippy you sick coming out of your nose, nothing worse!

Extremely Jel of whoever has that free spa trip (can't look back as on phone) closest I'm gunna get to a h

JethroTull · 18/03/2013 17:05

Slippy sick through the nose is impressive! Poor you. Thanks everyone for maternity clothes suggestions, my job is a bit mixed, smart casual in the office but super smart when I'm with clients. Think I can get away with normal clothes for a few more weeks but I like to be prepared! Do I buy the same size? Totally clueless when it comes to anything pregnancy related Grin

Sal your trip sounds brilliant! Enjoy.

Natalieand · 18/03/2013 17:05

Sorry it always posts half way through!!! Grrr

Closest I'm gunna get to a holiday this year is a few days in a haven caravan and that's if I'm lucky lol

Just had stood in the kitchen crying cos I started dinner then realised I didn't have enough pasta, and dh wouldn't answer his home. I think its more the tiredness making me this emti

Natalieand · 18/03/2013 17:05

I give up! It keeps posting half way through, I may just cry again lol

Natalieand · 18/03/2013 17:07

slippy from what I remember me delilah and cuille (excuse me if I've got that wrong) were carrying twins with me and cuille now having one baby and delilah has sadly lost both. Xxx

tackytiger · 18/03/2013 17:11

Had my scan today!
We have a head, little fat tummy, arms and legs flying about all over the place, and a little heart beating. Magic!
Scan pics not quite as clear as last time as sonographer mentioned my plump tummy is harder to scan through this time lol. I'm only a 14 and 5ft 10 but I do still have pudge from DD (3years old ;-)). Lucky I'm not the sensitive type, eh!

Natalieand · 18/03/2013 17:12

Amazing news tackytiger here's to an uneventful 28 weeks :-) did your due date change? Xxx

Haylebop12 · 18/03/2013 17:37

Brill news tacky so pleased for you!

Getting ready to go... Eeek!

jethro you just buy your normal size but different brands size differently, just like normal clothes.

natalie sorry about your pasta dilemma... I think it's fairly normal to break down over trivial stuff as hormones are racing!

MotherOfNations · 18/03/2013 17:47

Great cherry now I've got a scan buddy.
I don't know whether I should take dd(4) along to my scan with us or find a babysitter.
It would be awful if she was there and we had bad news but I know she'd love to see it.

Umlauf · 18/03/2013 17:49

cuille and natalie I'm really sorry if my twin comment was insensitive, I wasn't thinking at all when I wrote it and I'm so sorry.

tiger such happy news! Did you get the pics? We're they expensive? Did your due date change?

Where in Spain are you all going? I'm having a road trip to Andalucia next week for Easter and I think in August will head to Madrid and Barcelona, but won't be flying.

Does anyone know why you shouldn't fly late? Is it for diplomatic reasons, ie giving birth in a foreign country and citizenship issues, health reasons, in case you give birth on the plane?

OP posts:
racheld33 · 18/03/2013 17:55

Hi all, think your legally Allowed to fly till 36 weeks.
Increased risk of thrombosis and various veins from flying.
Your meant to get a doctors or midwife letter after 24 weeks confirming your not likely to give birth in next 72 hours !!!!
I'm definately going on a plane in the summer for my hols, but only 2 hours to France! Can't live without the lovely food and weather Grin

racheld33 · 18/03/2013 17:56

Think after 36 weeks they're worried your going to give birth in the air!

Sal1977 · 18/03/2013 17:57

MotherofNations, why don't you get a babysitter and then if everything is ok, get your OH to video the scan on his phone/camera?

pinksky · 18/03/2013 17:58

Tiger that's wonderful news! How lovely--did you get to look at the screen for a while? I'm living vicariously through everyone else's scans Grin Pseudo I've not heard of anyone else having a Saturday scan but I'd rather like that, could then hopefully enjoy a day or two with DH planning and celebrating.

I'm absolutely wiped and so so cold. Came home intending to go for a walk but am in bed with a hot water bottle instead. DH making spag Bol.

Sal the spa sounds awesome, enjoy!
isn't it 24 weeks for flying? Or 22? I'm hoping we'll get away but I think I might have too much work on, and I'd like to save AL for extending mat leave too.

Don't cry natalie! Have a nice cuppa and a cuddle with DD

doobeedee · 18/03/2013 17:59

Don't forget to check the insurance you buy too! Some wont cover after a certain week and you need to make sure they'll cover you if you actually give birth early in another country!

JellyCurls · 18/03/2013 18:00

Great news on scan tiger and good luck to tomorrow's scan ladies.

tucking its me that's in West of Scotland but have to say prenatal care here is OK, it's the after care that's horrid

littleducks · 18/03/2013 18:10

slippy i have had that if i vomit violently, its horrid, poor you

tiger congrats on scan, I'm also a bit more 'plump' than in prevvious pgs and am expecting a comment

I have been feeling rubbish, nausea, vomiting and fainting. I am kind of expecting and dreading failing ketones test and being admitted at MW appointment tomorrow. Really hope not as Wednesday is my b'day and kids will be upset as they probably wont get to visit as that hospital is far. At thesame time I think i have to admit I am going to need admitting and treatment as i cant carry on much longer like this.

HotSoupDumpling · 18/03/2013 18:14

Sal - am totally jealous of your spa trip!

Hilariously, I forgot we had a new thread and could NOT believe my eyes when I saw that there were only a couple of new posts on the thread today...then I found this thread and TYPICALLY there are 4 pages already!

We heard the heartbeat at our 9 week viability scan. I cried. (That said, am crying all the time now, so it's nothing new...)

littleducks · 18/03/2013 18:17

Oh yes the crying, watching Little House of the Praire saying "look kids there is a fire, their house is made of wood (sob) and might burn down (sob) they have to put the baby in the stream to keep her safe and the little girls have towork and try and save the house (sob, sob, sob) Hmm

thethreeblondies · 18/03/2013 18:30

littleducks I love little house on the prairie, reminds me of sunday afternoons growing up, I watched hours of it yesterday, season 8! Managed not to cry though, but the end of Nanny McPhee and the big bang got me fri night (their dad's home sob sob) then the end of Toy Story 3 got me sat afternoon (Andy loves those toy's sob, my DD's are going to grow up like that sob sob sob!)
