Will this one take us through to the end of the first trimester? Will the sickness ever end? Will we be able to judge genders from those first scan pictures? These and many other mysteries to be solved in... THREAD 4

OP posts:

So glad you've been seen Sal. Hope you manage to have lots of rest until your next appointment.

pinkmoonlight · 24/03/2013 15:23

Glad you were seen Sal, fingers crossed for you Smile

I had my scan letter through yesterday- 15th April as I predicted (I will have had 2 weeks off for Easter holidays and scan is scheduled for first day back!). Im going to try and get it pushed forward to the Friday but I doubt I'll be allowed.

I've got to tell my headteacher tomorrow as I have a suspicion that a school governor overheard some comments (made by someone else, not me!) and I'm scared that the head will find out via someone else and be furious. I'm not looking forward to it Sad

JethroTull · 24/03/2013 16:11

Blimey Pink that sounds like it could be awkward but not your fault at all. You're not obliged to tell your employer this early. I hope it doesn't cause you too much stress.

TheFalconsmistress · 24/03/2013 17:14

Rockchick1984 · 24/03/2013 18:01

Falcon that's lovely! Very heavy though, but fine if you're not trying to lug it in and out of the car regularly!

We have narrowed down to either iCandy Peach Blossom (if funds allow) or Smyths Dimples Duo (if can't afford the iCandy) but will keep our babystyle Oyster to use as a single coz I love it :)

I'm doing Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree. No idea what I want to do at the end of it, but I'm enjoying it and I decided that's the most important factor to consider unless I wanted the degree for a specific role!

Still not had any snow here, must be the only part of the UK that hasn't - my Dad lives 10 miles down the road and he was snowed in :)

roxvox · 24/03/2013 18:30

Glad to hear it went ok at the hospital sal1977. Being an expectant mother herself I am sure she would have felt your fear and would have arranged a scan if she deemed it necessary. I've got my fingers crossed for you for Tuesday. And the others having scans on Tuesday too.

I've got my scan on Thursday - has anyone else got their scan this week?

Fatigue has properly hit me today. I hate napping, but have been in bed all afternoon. Feel like I went out to a big party last night or something!

ananikifo · 24/03/2013 18:31

Falcon that pram looks very nice. I'm looking for something similar.

When is it normal to start buying things? I've been looking at prams, too, and won't buy until we move, but things go on sale and you don't want to miss a deal. I would also like to spread the cost out. Is second trimester too early to do things like buy prams or to decorate a nursery?

I also knit and I don't know when is too early to start, because nice projects take time. I'm thinking of buying yarn for a special baptism shawl in the next few weeks, but that seems very early, iykwim. On the other hand maybe I won't have time to knit after the baby's born.

Smitten1981 · 24/03/2013 18:36

I think I'm gonna wait till the 20 week scan before I start buying. Although I'm desperate to make a start.

roofio87 · 24/03/2013 18:38

ananikifo I have to admit to starting knitting a blanket already. I'm not one for superstitions and I know a baby of mine will use it one day no matter what!! like you say these things take time and I'd hate to not have things finished when the baby arrives!!

Rockchick1984 · 24/03/2013 18:39

I'm planning on ordering pram and paying a deposit around 20 weeks, then paying it off nearer to due date so guarantee lasts as long as possible! I crochet, and didn't do any for around the first 4 months after having DS as I was too shattered to concentrate but started again after that.

Good luck for Thursday Rox mine's not til 8th April.

roxvox · 24/03/2013 18:44

ananikifo I am going to wait until after the 20 week scan. I haven't started looking yet (and won't until after my 12 week scan). To be honest though, once I start looking I will be surprised if I can cope without buying anything in those 8 weeks between scans, especially if I spot a bargain, but I am going to try to resist!

I have started putting money to one side though. That way I will feel less guilty about buying bits after my 20 week scan. I have also been making little lists with ideas on them. All being well then my Internet usage is going to rocket after my 12 week scan!

MotherOfNations · 24/03/2013 18:45

roxvox My scan is Thursday and cherry's too.

roxvox · 24/03/2013 18:46

Thanks rockchick! So yours is 2 weeks tomorrow, fingers crossed the time flies by for you!

Natalieand · 24/03/2013 18:47

OMG MAJOR F*ing RANT!!!!

Just popped in to the MIL as had to pick up a wedding invite. She's my least favourite person anyway but I tolerate her and two things literally fumed me to boilin point (we was only there an hour)

  1. She's has told her sister (dh's auntie) an her son (dh's cousin) out big news despite being told not to tell a sole! She can't even see the problem with it but I somehow bit my tongue and made it obvious I was annoyed but didn't make a scene
  1. Was having a general coversation about the state of dh little sisters bedroom (she's only 11) and MIL and her DH told me and my DH to go look at her room, so we did (they live in bungalow so only next room to lounge) then the sister (age 11) went absolutely MENTAL screaming at her mum went an sat in the car beeping the horn continuously an when she realised that wasn't getting the attention she wanted she came in and started full on screaming at ME how dare I go I get room literally flying off the effin handle at me ONLY ME THOUGH not dh or her mother who was the one that told me and dh to go look on the first place, I picked up dd picked up my hand bag and said DH (name) were leaving NOW and the MIL followed us to car and said oh no need to get upset so I blanked her and then dh got in car and drove off

Now my argument here is

  1. Me and dh looked cos we were encouraged to go look (go on go an look go on quick) we didn't just take it upon ourselves to nosey
  2. How dare that cow share our news
  3. How dare she let an 11 year old get get in my face screaming at me hysterical like that I'm an adult for Christ sake and had my two year old daughter sat on my knee at the time.
How dare an 11 year old girl speak to me like that and not even be told ff MIL just sat on her fat arse chuckling away at the situation. I was shaking like anything from anger!

Argh so sorry for HUGE rant and for all me me me but I seriously had to get it off my cheat

Re buying things for baby: we will most like buy a crib, bottles Etc before 20 weeks but anything that needs to be gender coloured ie clothes I will wait as have alot of girls stuff anyway. Also have high hair already bouncer baby bean bag etc all be it in pink but I'm sure if I have a boy it won't matter as they use bouncer Etc for such a short time it's hardly worth buying new for sake of the colour

salhopefully the lovely doc put your mind at ease a little and hopefully Tuesday flies around for u uneventfully just keep those feet nicely rested :-) call in sick from work too (if you work sorry cant remember who does what lol)

roxvox · 24/03/2013 18:53

Damn I keep cross posting! Sorry for spamming...

rockchick I meant to ask in that last post - how far along will you be?

motherofnations and cherry - yay! Scan buddies Smile How far along will you both be? What time is your appointment?

natalieand sorry to hear you've had such a rubbish day! That does all sound completely out of order. Very little annoys me more than a) people who can't control their children/refuse to tell them off when they're being unruly and b) people sharing secrets (especially something this big). To be honest it's part of the reason why we haven't told anyone yet (although I don't really fully trust myself anymore as I've almost let it slip a few times!). It's rubbish though that so many people on here seem to have had the secret shared without their permission. It's exciting news to tell, and it's not theirs to share (unless you tell them they can of course).

MotherOfNations · 24/03/2013 19:02

roxvox I'll be 11+4 I think cherry is 12 weeks just now. My appointment's at 1.30 poor DP will be exhausted. He's got a night shift and won't get home til 10 am on the day of the scan.
I'm sure the excitement will keep him awake.

Rockchick1984 · 24/03/2013 19:23

Rox I'll be 12+3 on scan day, we've already told most friends and family though after seeing heartbeat at 8 weeks so will just be a few less-close friends (mainly other mums from baby group) and Facebook to tell!

Natalie I'd be furious about both things, the 11 year old in particular though - I hate when people don't even try to control their kids! What has DH said about it?

Haylebop12 · 24/03/2013 19:28

Just popping in to say sal so sorry to hear what your going through. Not sure how I would cope tbh but you sound clued up and switched on. I have absolutely everything crossed for you.

Haylebop12 · 24/03/2013 19:29

Oh and 11+0 today and have to wait until 13+2 for my scan!

MotherOfNations · 24/03/2013 19:49

Should have said 11+5. I can't wait. I just feel so worried this time

roxvox · 24/03/2013 19:56

MoN and Rockchick, I will be 12+2 and my appointment is at 8.20am. I am so super anxious that there going to tell me there's nothing there. I can't wait though. I have taken the day off work, so I can either spend the rest of the day drinking wine, or window shopping for a pram Smile

Natalieand · 24/03/2013 20:08

rockchick dh husond is one of these annoyingly chilled ppl about things like that! My argument now is I want a props apology off the 11 year old, she needs to learn some respect perhaps she should have said enforce we looked at her room she didn't want us to look instea of being so aggressive afterwards, I dunno about u guys but I wouldn't even speak to my mum like that aged 11 never mind someone else, especially when they have a toddler on their lap who also bore the brunt of we anger still fuming now lol

Natalieand · 24/03/2013 20:09

Sorry I meant 'before' not 'enforce' god damn auto correct lol

pinkmoonlight · 24/03/2013 20:18

I'm not surprised you're furious natalie, that is toally out of order. Agree with rockchick- I cannot stand parents who don't discipline their children- there should definitely be a punsihment for such awful behaviour. My MIL and BIL have both wound me up today as well, must be a day for it. Angry

Natalieand · 24/03/2013 20:35

Must be something in the air pink I'm quite stubborn and if she apologies to be for being so damn rude then I will of course apologise for looking at her room (can I just add I only stood at her door didn't go in or touch any thing)

I'm so looking forward to tomorrow morning as ill be 10+5 (almost 11 weeks) and will officially be able to say my Scan is next week lol cos its Wednesday 3rd

Hope everyone has had a lovely day, me and dh just sharing a share size bag of milky stars, yummy :-) xx
