Ahhh Ama I used to LOVE The Wonderstuff (before they went too fiddley).

Runswithsquirrels · 10/04/2013 08:03

Off for my GTT in a moment. Already starving! I've downloaded The Hobbit on to my iPad to keep me distracted from hunger and boredom.

Yesterday I had my midwife appt and bubba didn't really like the prodding so gave her a few good kicks as if to tell her to bugger off. I heard the heartbeat for the first time outside a scan and it was so fast, like galloping horses!

I hope everyone has a good day.

MightBeMad · 10/04/2013 08:21

Morning all!

Good luck with the gtt squirrels.

Cutandstick · 10/04/2013 09:24

Morning all, just got another amazon parcel Grin and my 3 (yes, 3!) parents books have arrived... Got the 'First Time Parent', 'your baby week by week' and 'what mothers do especially when it looks like nothing'. They all looked quite different and had good reviews. Also got some nipple pads as my development email from another site said I might start producing clostrum (sp!) this week - which made me ekkk and hope I leave it til much nearer the time - but decided to be prepared!
Glad movement is restored photograher off to MW in a min.... 28+4

MightBeMad · 10/04/2013 10:15

cut I didn't get colostrum until after baby was born last time (and even then didn't usually leak enough to need pads - so you might be lucky!

cheekbyjowl · 10/04/2013 10:21

Morning. Good luck with the GTT squirrel. After having some ben and jerrys for breakfast, I just got on the scales...bam bam bam. You could say i'm keeping up with the Kardashians as my weight is definitely increasing at a faster rate (effect of ben and jerrys noted). But a while ago when we were talking about weight gain i said that i had read somewhere about how much of that is baby and how much is jiggle jaggle - and i think the info is quite comforting so thought i'd share with you all.

Baby - 4 kilos (8.8 lbs)
Placenta - 1 to 1 ½ kilos (2.2 to 3.3 lbs)
Amniotic fluid - 1 to 1 ½ kilos (2.2 to 3.3 lbs)
Breast tissue - 1 to 1 ½ kilos (2.2 to 3.3 lbs)
Blood supply- 2 kilos (4.4 lbs)
Fat stores for delivery and breastfeeding = 2 to 4 kilos (4.4 to 8.8 lbs)
Uterus increase - 1 to 2 kilos (2.2 to 4.4 lbs)
Total - 11 to 16 kilos (24 to 35 lbs)

Anyone thought of baby names yet? (I realise there's a separate thread for that but just wondering) . Since it looks like i'll be the size of a whale by the time i give birth, i think Jonah might be appropriate :) x

Cutandstick · 10/04/2013 11:28

Back from MW, baby measuring over 90th centime. Ouch! Shock all good except maybe a UTI.
Anyone else on here had to take antihistamines whilst pregnant? Just been prescribed some but told although they aren't licensed for pregnancy they are used. Asthma still messy and I need to get it under control before I see the consultant again or not so many birth choices for me!

Persuasion · 10/04/2013 11:50

Sorry for no personals, I'm on the train and can't look back easily to see what people wrote.

cheek I actually love Jonah! Although less good for our pink bump!

I had my growth scan this morning, chip is still small but has grown in proportion which is reassuring. She's head down as well, with her back to my left, I'm sure she'll change lots of times yet though.

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 10/04/2013 12:24

Cutandstick my asthma is terrible too, have had a few courses of steroids and really suffering at night. Going to see the gp on fri as not back at asthma specialist until 30th may and obstetrician 10th may and don't think I can cope til then!

Runswithsquirrels · 10/04/2013 12:32

Survived the GTT although I was close to falling asleep by the time the two hour wait was up. You've never seen anyone eat a jam sandwich so quickly - I devoured the first in the lift up from the blood department! I'm sure people just saw my bump and thought glutton! I have a feeling I am going to eat all day to compensate for early starvation!

Cutandstick · 10/04/2013 12:43

Hi Twinkle, I've PM'd you- hope you don't mind!

elliejjtiny · 10/04/2013 12:45

Good luck for the GTT squirrels. I've got a book that I always take to hospital when I know I'm going to be there a while, shopaholic ties the knot. I must have read it so many times but it always makes me laugh.

bigbelly that must be so frustrating. I think this friday is going to be our last childfree time for the forseeable future as both my parents and the PIL's are struggling when they look after them. DS1 and DS2 have been to stay with PIL a few times leaving DS3 at home but I don't think that's going to work now that DS3 is a bit older and more aware he is missing out.

re names I love Jonah too. DS1 has a J name though and we want to avoid matching initials.

re boob leaking I've been leaking since last night but it's not much, mostly when I squeeze them to see if they're still leaking! You might notice a little bit on the inside of your bra but that's it. I've never needed breastpads until my milk came in on day 5 after birth. I think I wore them when pg with DS1 though because I was a bit overexcited Blush.

re asthma meds I haven't needed to take antihistamines although I've heard they can be prescribed in pregnancy for sickness. I've had my dose of brown inhaler increased though.

I'm having a slob out day today. The DS's have got all the toys out in the living room and DS3 is wandering around in just a nappy. I have promised them my old birth pool in the living room filled with balls/balloons later if they tidy up. Of course DH's auntie chose today to turn up unexpectedly to drop off DS2's birthday present BlushBlush

I think DS1 is feeling the responsibility of being the eldest. We had a miscarriage before he was born and he's said a few times lately that if we hadn't had the miscarriage he wouldn't have been the eldest. My mum seems to think I treat him as my personal slave because he's the eldest and the only one without special needs but I don't think I do. In fact if anything I try to stop him trying to look after DS2 at school because I know DS2's teacher isn't keen on his "helpful advice" he gives her! Must make more effort to reassure him that being the eldest is a good thing. Could be tricky though as I am the eldest in my family and would much prefer not to be.

Is anyone else having really vivid dreams? I keep dreaming I am the duchess of cambridge, although sadly I keep my own figure even in my dreams!

dinkystinky · 10/04/2013 17:37

Afternoon all - the sun has finally turned up here so have been making the most of it. Discovery of the day - submerging yourself in cold water not only takes your breath away but makes the baby go CRAZY!!! My aubergine belly looks like a volcano trying to explode- its keeping ds1 and ds2 most amused. They are calling me mummy Vesuvius!

Cut - don't worry re 90th centile - babies grow in cuts and starts at different times so big now doesn't mean big later.

Persuasion - glad you had a good scan.

Squirrels - glad you survived the gtt! I deliberately made sure mine was as early as poss in the morning as my one with ds1 was at 3 in the afternoon and I was uber grumpy by then!

Ellie - how old is ds1? My ds1 is 6 nearly 7 and takes life very seriously at times - I have to keep reminding myself and him that he's still so young and no need to worry all the time. Hope the 4d scan and kid free afternoon go brilliantly on Friday.

Bigbelly - I am so sorry your mum has let you down. Hopefully you will be able to still celebrate in style and enjoy a lie in thanks to your friend.

DH and I can't agree on a boys name at all - English or Hindu - so this baby may well end up being Bean for a while - or Little Pup if ds2 gets his way!

whitedaffodil · 10/04/2013 18:01

thanks ama, fairy non bio it is. I have a sample of surcare that I have put aside but agree, I think it's the rubbish machine. I can do an extra rinse after a wash and think I'll just be doing that although it then takes an age. Landlord is not at all helpful.

all these GTTs - wondering if I should ask for one. It's standard in the US and in some places so I'm getting a bit suspicious that "risk-based screening" = code for £ saving measures. Not that it sounds like fun!

Twinklestarstwinklestars · 10/04/2013 18:06

Cut sorry to put on here but I have replied twice but it seems to keep crashing when I click send so you could have loads of messages!

TotallyEggFlipped · 10/04/2013 19:52

Dinky - why the hell would you want to submerge yourself in cold water?????

dinkystinky · 10/04/2013 20:31

Rescuing DS2 who is 4 going on 40 in his head...

OP posts:
TotallyEggFlipped · 10/04/2013 20:52

Ok. Rescuing a DC is a pretty good reason. Brrrr.

Cutandstick · 10/04/2013 22:32

whitedaffodil I've not been offered a GTT either, and am in UK. Assuming risk based here too - but maybe it varies on your local health authority.

orangebubbles · 11/04/2013 07:27

Morning all Smile

cheeky love your weight breakdown post, I reckon 70% of my weight gain is going in to creating disgustingly humungous boobs!! My friend took one look at me last week and burst out laughing!!! FFS!

On the touching front... I think I might get a t-shirt made... 'Look but don't touch' such odd irrational behaviour insights from everyone, even strangers!!

Is anyone wanting to play on the book of faces? ill start a secret group if there's interest. I'm much better at communication with a face... Each to their own though as know some prefer anonymity! If anyone's interested pm me and ill sort Smile

Have a good day all.

Oh and ps cloth nappy week starts on Monday if you're interested x

dinkystinky · 11/04/2013 09:13

Happy to join FB group orange but not on there too often - hope people keep on posting on here though too. If you're going to bf, those humongous boobs are going to keep your little one very full and very happy (and hopefully get them to sleep very well very quickly) - something to hopefully make you feel happier about turning into a Benny Hill-ette! And if you're not going to bf, they'll soon resume their normal size and shape.

bigbelly4 · 11/04/2013 11:08

Morning guys! Well I have got over my temper tantrum and have collected all the toys I threw out my pram!

Sorry not to name check but re position of baby - im an old hat at this pregnancy lark and have picked up a few skills along the way! I know mine is back to back as when I have a feel of baby I can feel arms and legs and bump is squidgy at front (only know this as previous pregnancies were the same and mw showed me how tocop a feel!)

Ellie - read a book on a midwife in america and her son said the following about being a baby after a miscarriage - every woman has a circle of spirit babies that stay with her, they take it in turns to be at the front of the que to be born. If a woman looses a baby the other spirit babies will let that baby return to the front of the que to be born next. Not sure it would suit everyones beliefs but I thought itwas a nice way to explain it to a child that has be born after a miscarriage that was struggling to understand.

Had really bad tummy pains last night and was beginning to get a bit worried, untill I did a huge poo! Sorry, I know its way tmi but made me and dh a big laugh!

elliejjtiny · 11/04/2013 11:59

dinky DS1 will be 7 in July so similar age to yours. Hope you and DS2 are ok, DS1 managed to get the tunnel from his toy train set stuck on his arm yesterday, had to phone DH at work in the end to come home and get it off!

orange happy to join a facebook group. Will be nice to put real names to faces. I'll say now that I'm not really called Ellie before I join the facebook group under my real name and everyone starts shouting "troll" Grin. I use the name Ellie on forums because when we were younger me and my sisters used to say we were like the 3 sisters in sense and sensibility. Have only watched the film so hopefully Elinor isn't awful in the book now I've admitted that!

bigbelly4 love the spirit babies thing. Someone sent me this poem after DS1 was born which is lovely. I've never really told him about the miscarriage before him but he seemed to know anyway, probably because he is very nosy. The midwife when he was born said he was more like a 2nd baby than a first and I like to think that he and the baby before him somehow met each other before they were born.

re baby positioning I found with DS3 and this baby I can tell by the movements where the head and feet are

re comments from strangers when you get to baby 3 the comments switch from "you've got it all to come" to "another one, are you insane?" and lots of head shaking.

iclaudius · 11/04/2013 12:25

Lol re the comments from strangers - I am often out with just dc7 in the day and people say things like 'enjoy this bit it goes too fast' or 'this is the easy bit' I have to smile and nod graciously!

TotallyEggFlipped · 11/04/2013 12:45

orange I'd be happy to join a FB group.

Feeling a bit fed up today after 3 people have told me already today my bump is 'tiny' or 'very neat' etc. I keep getting 'I wouldn't have known you were pregnant' comments too. I know I'm bigger than when I had DD, and i don't actually think I'm that small for 26 weeks, but I'm a bit sensitive about the bump size because DD had IUGR.
