Hi all, more slapped cheek stuff, what is this disease and why have I only heard of it recently!!

My friends son has it, I only saw him very briefly, should I get checked anyway?

juniper9 · 17/03/2013 01:09

EmmaDee by the time the rash shows up, it's not contagious anymore. The infectious period is 10-14 days before hand.

Readytosettle · 17/03/2013 05:12

Choccie- not sure whereabouts in london you are but we went to 'my ultra baby' they've got a few locations & were quite reasonable so might be worth checking out.

Whyriskit · 17/03/2013 08:09

kamikazee - I went into labour with both, it was augmented with DS1, and after 12 hours they decided emcs was the way to go (53 hours altogether),
With DS2, went into labour naturally, things were moving very slowly, and the consultant decided I should go on a drip again, I got a bit cross and said no (supposed to be a trial of labour). They then agreed to a section, had to wait a bit and then it all got a bit quick as DS2 was in distress. Think it was about 18 hours with DS2, but it's a bit of a blur!

CharlW1 · 17/03/2013 08:20

Yay I have a scan buddy Dorita Smile.

I think it must be a weekend of feeling a bit rotten! I have had a really bad stomach bug - typical we are at the MILs this weekend as well! as a result my big bump now looks a lot smaller!

I found out that my SIL is also pregnant! MIL told OH last night whilst I was in bed feeling sorry for myself. SIL hasn't told us yet because she said she doesn't want to take anything away from us, with it being our first - which is sweet but I am not like that at all and it would be lovely if she does tell us officially herself soon. Needless to say as I wasn't there when .MIL told OH I know no details like when she is due.

jennimoo · 17/03/2013 08:59

Awake half the night shivering / sweating and tucked up in bed feeling really rubbish while DH entertains DD :( off on holiday tomorrow too! Thankfully just 4 nights 1.5h away, but dunno how I'm going to manage if like this still.

I'm right there's nothing the dr can do though right?

jennimoo · 17/03/2013 09:14

Nhs direct wants me to see the GP today... Seems a but overkill but will get DH to take my temp in a minute...

andadietcoke · 17/03/2013 09:34

jenni don't think there's much the doctor can do if it's a virus, no. Did you have the flu jab?

Lots of fluid and maybe even lucozade type drinks?

Feel better soon!

andadietcoke · 17/03/2013 09:37

Just thought, you can take paracetamol to try and get your temperature regulated as well.

frogchops · 17/03/2013 09:42

Oh jenni, sounds awful. Get checked out anyway, you'll feel better when a dr puts ur mind at rest about what u can take etc.

Anyone else ever had head pain, on the left side, hurts more when I yawn or turn quickly. Kind of behind my ear and into my neck. First had it when I'd slept on dodgy pillows but now pillows are new and its still there. Don't wana google anymore as some of the results are actually scary!

jennimoo · 17/03/2013 09:56

Flu jab was all run out :( I'm trying to wait to take more paracetamol as only got 2 more doses til bedtime.

The out of hours says to call the GP first thing.

KamikazeeKid · 17/03/2013 10:09

whyriskit gosh sounds like you had a right hard time, 53 hours! Ouch. Did you find it hard with recovery with a dc already? My ds leaps all over me and loves being up in my arms so I feel guilty about the impact on him during those early days more so than my concerns regarding healing. He'll be 25/26 months at the time.

I don't want to tempt fate but I've been vomit free for a week! Woo hoo! Been ill with cold all week mind

fl0b0t · 17/03/2013 10:34

Starting to look a bit bumpy now! Still got a crappy sore throat but don't feel as "ill" with it as I did a couple of days ago. Would quite like the nausea and vomiting to stop soon (now?) too.

It's just such an effort to try to make our house look almost acceptable- we've spent the whole morning cleaning and it's still a state :( Spent yesterday half asleep in front of the rugby eating porkpies (nice Hmm) and got two parties to go to today (can't really be bothered).

jennimoo my drs also ran out of hte flu jab. Lots of people have siad "oh we're out of flue season now so don't worry about it" but I've had flu before at all times of the year so I'd quite like the jab tbh :(

jennimoo · 17/03/2013 10:44

I meant to get a jab in the autumn from the chemist, but stupidly tried to avoid the 2ww and never managed to!

Sorry for all the moaning, but after 4-5 weeks of this on and off I'm feeling really fed up and hoping there is something the dr can do.

DH tells me a colleague of his had something that kept coming and going like this and did get antibiotics in the end. Can't quite see how that works if it is flu...

BinarySolo · 17/03/2013 11:55

If your doctors run out of flu jab see if they'll do you a prescription so that you can try other pharmacies. You'll probably have to take it back to your gp tho as chemists are often. Reluctant to do the actual jab if you're pregnant. I had to do this with ds as my doctor ran out.

Bargain alert - made my first baby purchase today :)
Lovely unisex jungle type theme Moses basket for 19.99 from home bargains (in store not on website). Has little animals printed on lining with a green and white spotted hood, plus a fleeced backed cover thing (good for using as a lying on/changing may rather than blanket) included a matress too.

Dorita75 · 17/03/2013 15:13

Good one creamtea !

We've just picked up a cotbed, high chair, 2 safety gates and a travel cot from a friend all for the price of a nice bottle of white and some real ales. Am already concerned about where it's all going to go....and it's only going to get worse!!!!

CheeseStrawCraving · 17/03/2013 16:18

Hi all, just checking in. We're without Internet until Friday so when I get to in-laws I'm desperately trying o catch up n emails, twitter, FB and mumsnet without seeming too anti-social! Anyways glad all scans ok this week, had my 16 week appt at 14+5 this week as changed from Oxford to Fareham so was a new notes appt, she did the Doppler and hb at 150bpm so all good! She said I didn't need a 16 week cos I'd seen her around the time anyway.

For those worried about not hearing hb, I just played dumb and said that I wouldn't't even know I was pg as no symptoms (which is true) so she said she'd be happy to do Doppler to put my mind at ease.

Happy weekend all! Xx

Creamtea1 · 17/03/2013 16:57

Bloody slapped cheek - looks like my ds2 has got (well actually means had) slapped cheek as he's had red cheeks since yesterday morning non stop...typical - I haven't had my results yet either! Once the rash comes out they are not infectious anymore do means he's had the virus within the last 10 days. Going to phone up and chase my results tomorrow, that would be 10 days since my blood test.

Eeeknumber3 · 17/03/2013 17:27

Oh no creamtea tis a nightmare, I waited so long for mine and I'm still waiting to hear back from them 5 weeks later to tell me if the immunity was developed recently, I.e. exposure during the recent episode at school or from years ago. I have given up, I don't feel like I have any ailments recently, so am just going with the gut instinct I had it years ago....yes, do badger them though, they only told me as I rang!
Adorable clothing alert, my daughter had a Powell Craft 'girls at play' dress yesterday for her birthday from a friend and it's gorgeous. Have just made fatal discovery they do baby things too! Oops...drool...it's very cath kidston ish...

badguider · 17/03/2013 17:38

We went campervan shopping today - it's our grand plan to give me a base this summer while pregnant where I can rest, make tea, chillout... and then same for next spring/summer with the wee one.
We are normally pretty rugged campers with a small 2man tent but we just feel a van is so much more doable with a baby in our climate, we're also hoping the little one will learn to nap in it on day trips too as it'll be much nicer for us than sitting in the car at nap time.

Anyway, we've chosen our van type and conversion type so now just waiting for the phonecall to say the man has found us a van of the right type, mileage and price Grin soooo exciting Grin

fl0b0t · 17/03/2013 18:34

badguider very exciting! I wish we were buying a campervan not a kitchen! :)

Creamtea1 · 17/03/2013 18:44

badguider that sounds brilliant! As per flo, wish we could get a camper instead of a bathroom!
And eek that little outfit is very cute :)
