Both my last pregnancies I was down the gp the day after my BFP!

MouseInAHouse · 25/02/2013 14:54

Well, did another test today - and still positive, so have booked an early scan privately for 11th March. Already panicking that the mere booking of an appointment might have been enough to jinx things!

Can't believe I'd forgotten how stressful these early weeks are.

Natalie sorry your scan was so sad, but glad to hear that your saw a strong heartbeat.

TDD32 · 25/02/2013 14:57

Thanks PinkSky. I am in Yorkshire. It really upset me, stupid I know. I am seeing the MW Wednesday at 9am so hopefully she will offer me both.

MouseInAHouse · 25/02/2013 14:58

Don't think I'll bother with a GP appointment at all. All she did was to say 'Congratulations, make an appointment with the midwife on your way out'. Well, not literally just that, but was a bit of a let down & not worth taking up either of our time.

TDD32 · 25/02/2013 15:10

MouseInAHouse, you couldn't have said it better. She did just make the appointment take some blood to check iron levels, worry me about having a baby when over 35 and the tests they need to do. Then ask me what I will do if things aren't right.... Then tell me no scan till 20 weeks. Left the surgery shell shocked and confused. Hopefully Wednesday will prove to better..

MouseInAHouse · 25/02/2013 15:15

TDD32, I'm sure your midwife will have a better handle on things. And if she gets anything wrong there are plenty of us on here to compare advice with!

cuillereasoupe · 25/02/2013 15:19

I had quite a bleed earlier on. Came home from work, on bedrest for two days, extra early scan booked for Wednesday. Scared stiff.

MouseInAHouse · 25/02/2013 15:22

Cuillerea, you poor thing. Are you on your own or is your DP with you? It's hideous knowing there is nothing you can do but wait. Fingers crossed for you.

cuillereasoupe · 25/02/2013 15:26

He's hoovering as we speak bless him :-)

TDD32 · 25/02/2013 15:27

Cuillerea, so sorry to her that. My heart goes out to you. Fingers crossed for you.

MouseInAHouse · 25/02/2013 15:29

Good. A man being supportive & making himself useful at the same time - that's what I like to hear! I've got to go know, but will be thinking about you both. Take care.

Soupqueen · 25/02/2013 15:31

natalie, sorry it was mixed news. I wouldn't worry too much about a birthday clash - the baby could come at any point over about 4 weeks so EDDs at this stage are just guidance.

cuille, thinking of you, take it very easy.

tdd32 your GP sounds a bit misinformed and scaremongery. Women over 35 having babies is totally normal these days and, from what I've read, we don't need any further tests at all - unless the standard ones show a greater chance of something being wrong, and that would be the case regardless of age.

I'm having another queasy day, on and off, always seems to be worst after lunch, regardless of what I eat. Thought I was actually going to have my first vom this morning, but a bit of retching was it.

EuroShaggleton · 25/02/2013 15:35

cuillere I am sorry to hear that. I'm sure you already know that lots of women bleed in pregnancy and everything turns out fine, but that won't ease the worry right now. I'm glad your husband is being both supportive and useful!

TDD I haven't heard of needing extra tests at over 35. Certain risks are higher, but I thought they were covered by the standard tests.

TDD32 · 25/02/2013 15:42

Thank you all. This is my first. Doc says need to do tests for downs syndrome (upto three deferent tests depending on results from first /second test) and spina bifida (we weren't ttc and I missed one pill) so I didn't start taking Folic till 4/5 weeks after we conceived.

Thank you all. Will stay positive for Wednesday when I see the MW.

pinksky · 25/02/2013 15:55

I think your GP handled that badly, TDD. like Soupqueen says- scaremongering. Your midwife will be much more helpful and supportive I'm sure, and remember that tests are optional.

Cuille, hope you're doing ok. For some reason rest often stops the bleeding - it has with me, and as others have said it's a common experience at this stage X

EuroShaggleton · 25/02/2013 16:18

They sound like the tests that are offered to everyone regardless of age to me, TDD. Your GP sounds like a bit of an idiot.

TDD32 · 25/02/2013 16:44

Yes you are all right. It's nerve reckoning enough till 8 then 12 weeks without your own GP making it worse. But I am lucky others have had/have more to think about.

PinkSky, I read the articules on the NHS site about scans and feel much better about that. thanks.

pinkbuttons · 25/02/2013 17:14

Hi all have just managed to catch up after busy weekend away.
sorry to hear about mixed news on scan natalie but great that you saw one strong heartbeat. also sorry about dates being set back, i was really upset when mine were too but apparently its hard to be accurate so early as someone else has already said.
tdd am agreeing with everyone else about GP being an arse, hope yor feeling better and get real answers to questions on Wednesday.
cureillea sorry to hear your worrying, i hope everything goes well at scan. bleeding is really common in early pregnancy so try not to panic yourself too much yet, as youve probably read on the thread already your in good company and lots of us have experienced similar things.
Just ticking along here. Have booking in appt. with midwife tomorrow and need to discuss consultant care due to my thyroid problems. Does anyone know if she'll have details of my last pregnancy at all? it all got a bit complicated towards the end.
Also told my best friend this weekend. she has been TTC for over a yr so was rly nervous even though she knew we were trying. she guessed as soon as she saw me and was lovely. was a huge relief although i did ask if id already put on that much weight!! really hoping its all just bloating have put on 2lb in a week Confused oops!

pinkbuttons · 25/02/2013 17:16

Also not sure if its been mentioned but theres a November thread now! Time is passing! just very very slowly

slippysnow · 25/02/2013 17:36

I got my letter from the hospital today. I have to wait the full 12 weeks to have a scan :( everyone seems to be having earlier ones on here. I have an appointment with the mw a couple of days before, I'll be twiddling my thumbs and panicking until then I think. Thinking of everyone soldiering on through sickness, concern and pains

FireFly21 · 25/02/2013 17:39

Hello all,

I would like to join too. I am 35 with EDD 18th October. Been watching thread since 18th but have had a few bad days with morning sickness - 2 days when I couldn't even keep sips of water down, then just felt wiped out afterwards. Improved a bit over weekend but today it is starting to feel worse again! Any tips? Also how do I know when i should worry about dehydration if I struggle again?

TDD32 · 25/02/2013 17:45

Hi FireFly21

A friend told me about ginger biscuits and ginger team. Cant face the biscuits but a few slices of fresh root ginger in a cup of hot water and sip like tea. Helps me a little.

PseudoBadger · 25/02/2013 17:48

Hula hoops. They are the only thing that has helped in the past!

FireFly21 · 25/02/2013 18:02

thanks. I couldn't face biscuits - made me instantly throw up - but will give the hot water trick a try :-)

I was just worried for the two days when I struggled to keep a sip of drink down that it could be doing the baby some harm as I felt really thirsty, and I don't see midwife until end of next week and just wondered when I should be concerned/worried?

TheFalconsmistress · 25/02/2013 18:08

ready salted crisps seem to do it for me too odd eh! i am still feeling being sick hope it goes soon! I am really feeling sorry for Ds as i am not as active fun mum i was before bean came on board but really ill!
