wavesandsmiles · 12/02/2013 09:43

Oh, jolly what a horrible time for you Sad

Hugs to remembering as well, hope you get through the week ok.

I'm out of hospital again, hoorah, but my new medication won't be here til tomorrow, it is rarely prescribed so not in stock, but it is safe for the baby. So, a very sicky day again already today. I still feel a lot better than I have in a while, having had 7 litres of IV fluids in 48 hours! So today I am on the sofa under a duvet, with a sick bowl, watching tv with the DCs.

Hoping the HG reduces soon, and the new meds work, as I would really like to start to feel glowing, and get excited about buying things for the baby.

16 weeks today Smile

beckie90 · 12/02/2013 10:02

Ooo that sounds yum, I just had Orange squeezed onto mine and a sprinkle of sugar, quite simple and boring Haha. I know I'm still not sure if I want to find out ha, I do but I don't because funny thing is I've actually convinced myself its s girl so Il have s right shock when it turns out boy Haha obviously a happy one though xxx

DaveMccave · 12/02/2013 10:47

I can't stop buying things! I'm only 13 weeks...Someone please tell me they are the same? Mostly just second hand clothes from eBay and charity shops, some really cute scandi brands, loads of cloth nappies, couple of slings. I'm going to have nothing left to buy if I don't stop. Somebody stop me!

MrsPennyapple · 12/02/2013 11:11

Re pushchairs, we bought a Graco when I was expecting DD, it was second hand but had hardly been touched, it came with the carrycot bit and car seat with iso-fix base, and the lady threw in another brand new bigger car seat she'd bought because it matched, but had then decided she didn't like any of it. We got the lot for £210, absolute BARGAIN. It is big and heavy, but also very sturdy, and although it's not the most nimble pushchair, I really like it, so will be using it for DC2. I wasn't driving when we got it, so walked everywhere with it, and it has a huge basket underneath for plenty of shopping.

Waves Glad you're feeling ok, hope the medication works and you can get on with glowing :)

Remembering Feel free to blub as much as you like, if you can't when you're pg, when can you? Glad you feel better after talking to DH though.

Muddy nice to have an EDD buddy! Hope you're feeling well. Any movements yet? I keep thinking I've felt something, and then not being sure.

Sorry for those fighting noro virus, hope it clears up soon.

RugBugs · 12/02/2013 11:12

Sorry to hear so many are having a tough time of it at the moment Sad

Hope your new medication works when you get it waves

Haha I'm kind of with you Dave I need to reign myself in! I have yet to buy a sling though, I had a look at the Liverpool/Wirral library the other weekend so know I want a wrap/ring style one but there's so many!

DaveMccave · 12/02/2013 11:21

It is confusing rugs. Ive had a glance at sling forums and they are crazy ladies that speak a whole different language! I've been advised to get a stretchy wrap, I got a bargain second hand moby, and then found Victoria sling lady who is well recommended and does the same type as moby for half the price so bought another so can have one for wash/dp can wear one at the same time. The ring things baffle me, there are so many! I fancy a buckle one, so think connecta. Do you know where the liverpool sling meets are? Did you see them at the baby show? I'm probably moving to liverpool now so think it will be better to go there than the one in Wallasey. Think I might stick with the stretchy ones I've got and order another w hen babies here? I find most so girly printed, so need something neutral that dp can wear. Hmmm

RugBugs · 12/02/2013 12:04

Yes, they were at the baby show, they had mums demonstrating about 10 different ones on their stall and a seminar going into them in more depth. The Liverpool website is www.liverpoolslinglibrary.co.uk/ there seem to be a lot of meets but one2one consultation available too.

We had a baby bjorn for DD but it was such a faff to adjust between each of us wearing it, DP is a good foot taller than me so we ended up him wearing it out a lot and me carrying DD which won't really be an option this time, I want both hands free!

I think fabric choice will determine which brand we get, agree there are a lot of pretty fabrics and lots of rainbow stripes that poor DP was a little bit Hmm about but there are one or two that are in plain navy/khaki.

LexiLoganberryBump · 12/02/2013 12:07

I would like a sling, started to have a look at some but there are so many to choose between I haven't got a clue where to start, I like the ones which wrap around you and have seen pics of baby in different positions in those but think I'd be worried about doing it up properly as they only seem to tie in a knot at the back, not sure how secure it would be. I never had one with DD.

I like the cosatto giggle treet but DH isn't to keen, we don't have any shops really close that sells prams, don't really want to buy online without having had a try first.

DaveMccave · 12/02/2013 12:18

I had a baby bjorn too, they are known as 'crotch danglers' by experiences baby wearers. If you read up on it, they are actually very ba for babies and adults spines! It's quite shocking really. They are very overpriced too.

Lexi, I'm told a stretch wrap (3 well known brands are moby, kari me, and Victoria sling lady) are perfect for newborn, there are different holds and good for breastfeeding in. But most people who babywear a lot instead of using a pram branch out into the other fancier types fairly soon. I was advices a basic stretch wrap, a ring or pouch sling and a buckle sling. Will wait till baby is here and go to a meet I think. Have a look on youtube at moby holds to get an idea... Dp nailed the tie first time but I failed miserably!

LexiLoganberryBump · 12/02/2013 12:28

Thanks Dave I'll have a look, just popped over to the mamas and papas site and there flex wrap looks nice and it looks simple to use. Does anyone have this one?

LexiLoganberryBump · 12/02/2013 13:03

Dave The moby wrap looks fantastic and after watching a few of the you tube videos actually looks alot easier to put on than I'd imagined, I had thought that the ones with meters of fabric looked compicated but this one looks great, thanks for the recommendation Smile

I feel stupidly excited about buying one now. I haven't wanted to buy anything till I have my scan, well I brought some bibs, only £3, but keep looking at clothes/babygrows with DH.

GaryBuseysTeeth · 12/02/2013 13:03

naturalmamas is a very 'woo' site, but very helpful/useful for info about all the billions of different slings & you should find at least one local(ish) meet!

DH is happy to use our babybjorn, but I need something more supportive of the upperback so I'll be going on a quest for a decent one soon.

Thanks jolly, what shocking news about your friend!
Very sorry about the job news too.

14+3

thekatsatonthematt · 12/02/2013 13:08

With regards to slings there are lots of sling libraries all over the country so you can get another mama to show you how it works and then rent it for a fortnight before parting with your cash. I'm on my phone but will try to find the link later.

Stopsittingonyoursister · 12/02/2013 13:45

Hi All

Pancakes part I done for breakfast with maple syrup. Pancakes part II with chocolate spread for a treat after tea tonight. Pancakes part III (for me and DH!) with fruit and honey planned for about 10pm tonight at this rate!!

waves glad to hear you are out of hospital and hope you get your medication soon.

jolly what a rotten run of luck. Will you definitely not get any maternity pay at all from the company? Sometimes you can accrue it. If you don't then you can apply for a maternity grant I think it's called? My friend had it when she had her second (she never went back to work after her first). I think it works out the same as the SMP, but you are then entitled to all sorts of extra grants and vouchers and stuff, so it might be worth checking out? When you do find out for definite about your job? Very sorry to hear about your friend as wel, that is awful news.

Mayan hope things are OK with you.

Non-vom vibes being sent to all those suffering with viruses. There is chicken pox going around DS school and DD's playgroup at the moment. DD has been complaining of feeling cold and tired all weekend so I keep checking her for spots but nothing yet. DS had it when he was just 3, and DD was a newborn, and she never got it so hoping it means she has some sort of super immune system. We are going away to Center Parcs this weekend for the start of half term so no doubt we'll get the first spots on Friday.....

mrswajs yay for the improved scan date and best of luck!

remembering glad you are feeling better.

I am going to properly look at slings this time round. I had a baby bjorn with DS but I just could not get it to fit comfortably at all, although DH loved it, especially all the women coming up to him to coo over the baby all the time!! I tried it again with DD but again no good. I have a bit of a dodgy back, so I just assumed that it was the weight of my babies that was the problem but I'm interested to see that might be wrong. I also borrowed a type of peanut shell sling when I had DD, but I found that when she was snuggled right in, it made her absolutely boiling and I still had to have one hand under her to support her because I as convinced she was going to fall out. However, I will need both hands free this time round to deal with DS and DD so a decent sling will be my lifesaver. I will look up the sling libraries recommended.

Whoever it was that had the Ultima system from M&P - that's the pram system I had. I don't remember all 9 functions, but I'm sure one was that you could turn it into a highchair by putting the pushchair 'chair' bit on the carrycot stand - pushing it a bit far I think!!

MrsPennyapple · 12/02/2013 15:42

I bought a moby wrap when I had DD. I agree there are so many types and styles, it's hard to know where to start, and there are no sling meets or anything like that near me. I looked at youtube vids on how to tie it, and when wearing it I found that both DD and I were comfortable and supported. Unfortunately, her being born in the height of summer meant that we both just boiled alive, so it didn't get used much. I will try it out again with DC2, and will hopefully get a bit more use as it gets cooler.

FoofFighter · 12/02/2013 17:10

Jolly :( what a shitty time you are having, sending you big squishy hugs x

I won't be doing slings as have a back problem and don't think it wise as am often unsteady on my feet from resulting nerve damage, looking forward to having a pram to hold onto!!

No pancakes here, OH bought (himself!!) some ready made ones, he can have those (urgh!) i can't be bothered making some for just me and have no lemons anyway cause I forgot it was this week.

made a pork in cider thing for dinner tonight using half a can of cider (which the alc will evaporate) and am intending on drinking the remaining half over the course of tonight! worked it out to be 1.3 units as they hadnily tell you on the can how many units it is! ridiculously looking forward to this
