jemimahpuddleduck · 30/01/2013 09:43

Hope the doctors goes well flob0t I may go myself soon.

kitten your post made me laugh I want to cry over wrong food when I'm not pregnant so god knows what I'm going to be like now!

Telling some family this weekend I will be 8 weeks don't want everyone knowing yet but think it's time for us to tell immediate family got lots going on in Feb so will be easier once certain people know.

Kittenkatzen · 30/01/2013 09:45

dietcoke a big announcement sounds lovely! But it's nice to be ale to tell your mum first too though - would the inlaws get all offended if she knew before them? How's her pretend surprised face?!

Kittenkatzen · 30/01/2013 09:49

mrsmango my dh hasn't had any in about 10 days as I just cannot keep my eyes open past 9pm at the moment! He doesn't seem too fussed just yet luckily - I think I'm more frustrated than he is!

jemimahpuddleduck · 30/01/2013 09:59

Oh dear my poor DH hasn't had it since New Years Day!! It has been mentioned in passing but he's ok with it thankfully!! To be fair I hurt my hand at the start of the month and didn't want to hurt it further then MS started. Must make an effort this week!

juniper904 · 30/01/2013 09:59

Adding myself too (on phone, so apologies if it messes up!)

SaggyOldPregnantCatpuss · 30/01/2013 10:33

CRIKEY! My DP hasn't had any since new year, and won't be getting any until this spotting stops! The Dr made it worse yesterday, and although she told me sex would be safe, she did say that there would be blood! So no thank you sweetheart! It's a shame, but ill just have to think of other ways to keep him amused! Wink

jemimahpuddleduck · 30/01/2013 10:43

Phew glad I'm not the only one saggy

fl0b0t · 30/01/2013 10:44

Hi all,
No miracle cure as yet, but doctor was super understanding (being 6 months pregnant herself!) and made me feel much much better about taking time off and is happy to sign me off work if I'm still this sick next week. She did make me feel much less guilty about work and about being more affected than other people, although I actually sobbed my way through the whole appointment which I'm hoping she didn't think too pathetic. She did say "five to six weeks is very early to be feeling like that" and all I could manage was "DONT SAY TWINS!"

She didn't want to prescribe antiemetics straight away which is good as I feel similarly- if I can avoid drugs during first trimester, that's great. But she's willing to if I'm still struggling in a week.

Right now I feel the tiniest bit better (hormones + guilt + sickness weren't a good combination, but take the guilt out of the equation and I feel a little more human)

Creamtea1 · 30/01/2013 11:02

Need to clarify a bit- when I said lack of action, I meant any action at all - catpuss it's the thought of other things to keep him amused that is really not appealing in this current sickness state! Bleurrrgh :(
So everything is off limits! I don't think we've done the main event since new year either.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 30/01/2013 11:19

Creamtea, can he not amuse himself? Would he expect you to perform if you had the flu? Or norovirus? DH's wait over a few weeks (I think he had a good birthday at the beginning of the month, but that was all!) has also been zero action. I have had nausea 24hours a day, so his amusement has been the last thing on my mind. He's been really helpful though, working through his lunch so he can leave work early to get back to bath DD for me. Actually made me cry, bloody hormones.

CamomileHoneyVanilla · 30/01/2013 11:26

other things to keep him amused - burghhh - struggling to clean my teeth at the mo.

I have spotting today - brown. No pain or anything. Stressed about it though - not really sure what to do. Phoned assessment unit who said if I was worried I could see my GP and get them to refer to EAU but don't want to bother them unnecessarily, esp if there wouldn't be anything they could do anyway. They were surprisingly unsympathetic.

SaggyOldPregnantCatpuss · 30/01/2013 11:28

I guessed that Cream. Grin I actually feel ok about DTD, read horny as hell but I'm not taking and risks! Sad

fl0b0t · 30/01/2013 11:38

I don't think DH has even had a snog for two weeks- I can't stand it at the moment! Even the smell of toothpaste has me retching! They'll live! Ps- I don't know if any of you lot have got books, but I bought a boring massive heavy womens book, whereas we brought a really fun, funny and informative one for DH who is loving it (and I've sneaked a read too!) called Pregnancy For Me: The WHOLE 9 months: [http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004GHRR86/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1/278-0033121-1073755?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_r=1TSMYK5DNK48VXY6W70V&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_i=190541062X] it's really really good! And it is quite sensitive in a jokey kind of way. I'd recommend it for Husbands and partners, especially if they feel left out!

Kilkers · 30/01/2013 11:57

Thought it was about time I added myself to this monster of a thread! Been great reading so far. Sorry to all those who've had losses, I myself am praying for a sticky bean this time after a MC in July 2012.

Been interesting reading the talk about knitting recently, I'm an avid knitter too and addicted to Ravelry (username on there is HelenK). I like knitting baby stuff as I have a short attention span and like quick results! Of course it's only been for friends so far as this will be my first DC. Roll on the 12 week scan!

Had my booking appt this morning - wow that was long!!

BUT... it does seem like the mat services here are good... I've got a scan at 12wks, MW appt2 at 15wks, will have another scan at 20wks.

Birth and early parenting classes (4 - starting labour, birth, feeding and coming home) in July.

There's a direct line for any problems/worries to the MW in office hours and direct to obstetrics at the hosptial OOH.

There is a midwife-led birthing centre at my local hospital and also a physiotherapy in pregnancy team who do regular open talks on the changes you should be expecting in your musculo-skeletal system and posture and who you can direct self-refer to if you have anything out of the ordinary.

All sounds good. I've also opted for nuchal screening and bloods... will see what happens after that... I'm currently open minded.

jemimahpuddleduck · 30/01/2013 12:24

Flobot I got the same book for DH it's great, I think he is alot more understanding than he would of been because of reading it. (not that he would be horrible otherwise obviously)

Welcome Kilkers

Badguider glad your app went well. Are the classes you mention NHS or NCT I have provisionally booked my NCT classes but going to be £200 so wanted to know what else is on offer?

SaggyOldPregnantCatpuss · 30/01/2013 12:53

Try this book for all those husbands out there! Grin

SaggyOldPregnantCatpuss · 30/01/2013 12:58

Got it for 1p on amazon! Grin

fl0b0t · 30/01/2013 13:02

Haha sagpuss!

badguider · 30/01/2013 13:13

jemima - all those classes are NHS. I dont' think that i'll bother with NCT as well, though I will be going to 'fit and healthy' pregnancy yoga at my regular yoga studio which is mostly about exercise and perhaps also an extra preg yoga class at the 'parenting centre' which is more about preparing for birth. Parenting centre is private but not for profit so you pay by 'suggested donation' of £8 per class.

nerual · 30/01/2013 13:39

Hi, on antenatal classes - for my first pg, I did NHS and NCT ones. While the NHS ones were good, they did not really facilitate socialising afterwards (they were mostly evening workshops). NCT, while expensive, was great for helping you understand all the options thoroughly (they spend AGES on birthing stuff), and they encourage you to get together, distribute email addresses (if you agree of course), and organise a reunion etc. While I was on my maternity leave, I saw my group almost every week. If you don't know many people in the area with babies and it is your first pg, then I really recommend forking out for the course. I know quite a few people who did NHS ones as well and hardly anyone made any new friends there.

Just my 2p :)

nerual · 30/01/2013 13:43

although i would add, I am in London, I'm sure NHS courses in smaller towns would probably be much friendlier ;-)

Poonli · 30/01/2013 14:18

I didn't do NCT classes either time last time and still made lots of friends. Some at the nhs organised classes, some at a pointless baby music thing (complete waste of time but made a friend) and a couple just got talking to in a coffee shop! Some people do make good friends at NCT but often grow out of them as babies get older etc. also quite a breeding ground for competitive parenting..that's just my old and jaded view ;)
