So sorry to hear that Betsy. It's so hard to have the too emotions running together. We found out I was pregnant not long after my father I laws lung cancer diagnosis. My poor DH doesn't know where his emotions are. I do think its helping everyone having another focus though & hopefully it will be the same for you.

rachywhite83 · 04/02/2013 15:52

So sorry Betsy. Thinking about you x

beaver33 · 04/02/2013 16:32

Oh Betsy, your poor family. Still, your bump is growing proof that life goes on and there's everything to play for. Cancer's a scary word but it is survivable these days and a positive attitude can only help. But you must be in real turmoil, so bless you.

Take care and keep talking about it Thanks.

ng1412 · 04/02/2013 17:00

So sorry to hear your news Betsy, look after yourself at this time x

We have had a lovely stressful day dealing with French beaurocracy starting with no water at all this morning. We thought we had been cut off despite paying bills until it turned out there was an emergency cut off in the village. Of course they didn't thnk to tell anyone on the village website so we were oblivious. Took 2 hours for the mayor to reply to my email confirming it was a village not personal issue

Then had loads of paperwork returned to us as apparently incomplete from tax office despite us having done the same thing before and it had been fine. We will now miss a deadline which has financial implications for our future tax bill. DH is fuming with them!

All this while trying to manage to not let my DD go running around the house, we have hard ceramic floor tiles so she only goes on the rugs.

I was done in by midday! Wish I could have a nice Wine

berri · 04/02/2013 19:24

Betsy I'm sorry to hear your news, was going to say just what MamaBrussels did.

MaybeAMayBaby · 04/02/2013 20:22

Betsy I'm so very sorry. What a shock for you all. Is your dad still in hospital? You send incredibly brave x

Ng that sounds very annoying! Will you be fined for being late with the forms? My DH didn't get round to sorting out his tax return after unspent weeks nagging him. I'm sick of the bloody sight of him!

I'm really fed up. Been seriously thinking about taking early mat leave-which is ridiculous as this time health wise, I've been so much better. I'm just exhausted. Also have a very sharp pain in the right back waist area. I've convinced myself it's my kidney because it's so localised. The pain is actually making me feel a bit sick. And then I feel really stupid! I tried ringing GP for an appt but the phone just kept ringing out.
My DH and I are really bickering a lot too. I remember we did last time too-I think he always feels anxious about the whole pregnancy thing and new baby. But I'm sick of being told that the pregnancy and talk of my health bores him. All I want is someone that knows me like he does to listen and make appropriate comments Grin. Instead he can't even do that right! Argh!

Who was it asking about maternity pillows? I bought a theraline one off amazon. I had looked into people's comments on MN and this one only seemed to have positive reviews. It's really helped! Especially my back. It's quite hard and firm so I was sceptical at first, but it's really supportive and I can mold it into any shape I need.

betsy so sorry to hear about your dad Thanks

scooby26 · 05/02/2013 11:50

Betsy- so sorry to hear your crap news- hope ur all ok.

Off to Harrogate with DH today for DBB- escapes the parents house and nice food and lie in I hope!

Coping well at parents but cant wait for Friday to get keys to our new house- I'm never moving again after this hassle ;-)

Sorry- I can't recall which scottish resident was also due to move this week- good luck... Hope all goes well for u!

10- hope you've still got your feet up and not not bored.

Weight- I had reached 8lbs extra up til 2.5 weeks ago- no scales at no so not sure how much I've put on since but my appetite has improved hugely now house sold so suspect lots! ;-) I put on 2.5st last time and prettying was back to pre pregnancy weight prior to this one. I'm on target to put on less this time but I'm not too concerned either way x

betsy thinking about you and your family, hopefully focusing on your happy event will give you, your dad and the rest of your family strength and comfort while he fights this, xx

cuppateaandagingersnap · 05/02/2013 12:06

Good luck with your move scooby hope after everything this move has put you through the last push into the new place goes smoothly. It was me moving up in Scotland, moved on Friday and settling into the new place, making a real effort to get everything sorted and unpacked, luckily not too much decorating to do, off today and tomorrow waiting for some deliveries so hoping to get lots done. If I could just get off MN and stop procrastinating.........

ng1412 · 05/02/2013 12:21

Maybe I am really hoping not, the implications are complicated as DH is a cross border worker so we are effectively having to comply with French and Swiss tax offices. nice!

Weight wise I have put on a stone, I didn't put on any in the first trimester as I was so sick so I have put it all on in the last 10 weeks or so.....v depressing..

Meant to say had results for GTT and my levels are slightly high. Not sure exactly what that means but have an appt with consultant on Thursday so he will explain it to me then.

It probably has something to do with all the pastries and croissants we have here in France. With my DD I didn't have it at all and I was living in the UK then. Coincidence?!

Ellypoo · 05/02/2013 12:47

Thinking of you and your family betsy, sounds like you are thinking positively which is great.

Good luck for Friday scooby, I hate moving, and for you moving twice in a couple of weeks is just a nightmare - I hope you get settled very soon and can start nesting!

Glad your move went smoothly cuppa, it's lovely to be able to get unpacked and sorted. We moved in September - the weekend I got the BFP! and we still aren't straight, but that's because DH still has to stain a floor and things like that!!

How is everyone doing? I am seeing the physio tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath that they'll be able to help, but we'll see! I had to sleep sitting up last night - was a combination of heartburn, pain in my hips & pain in my ribs. Great - 9 more weeks to go!!

SevenReasonsToSmile · 05/02/2013 16:22

elly hope the physio is some use.

betsy sorry to hear about your dad, and want to re-iterate what everyone else has said about the baby giving him more of a reason to fight it.

Good luck to whoever said they were having a scan tomorrow, I can't remember who it was. We have a 3D one on Thursday, I'm very excited and hoping we get good pics and can see what it is this time.

ng I'm in UK but had severe sweet pastry cravings with DD. the only reason I haven't gained much this time is I've had no cravings, in fact some days I'm still struggling that there's just nothing I want to eat.

BeauticianNotMagician · 05/02/2013 17:44

Betsy So sorry about your dad.You do sound very brave Thanks

With regards to weight gain I have put on a stone so far.I am making a conscious effort now to try and eat better.I have cut excercise right down to just walking and my Erin DVD.I don't know how people continue at the gym in just too tired.

I passed my theory test today. So happy I can now apply got my practical driving test.Really hoping to pass ready for when baby arrives

MaybeAMayBaby · 05/02/2013 21:54

Congrats Beaut!

This weight gain discussion is depressing! I have been a size 14-16 since last pregnancy (previously a 12) and I gained about a stone in first trimester Blush. I've since put on about 4-5 lbs so far this trimester.
I think last time I gained about 2-2.5 stone. I have a feeling I'll beat that this time Sad.

Feeling much more upbeat today. 6.5 work weeks left! I can do that (can't I?).

Good luck for moving day scooby and glad you're settling in cuppa. Our new boiler is booked in for fitting a week Saturday and then the kitchen very soon after. Very excited! And nice to be thinking of that rather than being pregnant.

elly hope physio is helpful. Last time I had an appt through for the week after I had my DD. so have no idea if it would have helped.

Betsy still thinking of you x

Artigene · 06/02/2013 08:46

Hi All

Betsy - I'm so sorry to hear about your father. I hope they sort out a good treatment plan for him and that you can keep being so positive.

Cuppa - Congrats on the move. Is it a whole new area or a new place in your same town? If its a new area then late pregnancy/early baby days is such a great time to meet new people and make new friends.

Maybe - Sorry you are so tired. When could you start maternity? I'm starting to feel detached from work whereas normally it really absorbs me. I got this last time too, suddenly my mind switches to a home and family focus and I find it very hard to motivate myself to work. I will struggle on to at least mid-April though.

NG - did you have the full or mini glucose test? I'm having the full next week which I'm dreading as its three hours of repeatedly drinking lucizade and having your blood taken. The midwife said I don't even fulfil the NICE criteria for the full test but because the consultant had ordered it she said I'd better go through with it, I'll kill him if he ordered the wrong test. On another subject did I read right that you cannot let your DD run in your own house due to hard floors???? That's a nightmare! I thinknid be tempted to let her run and learn, I mean they run on hard pavements and stuff.

Scooby - only a few more days before the big move! Have you ordered lots of lovely new stuff?

Sea - any news on the cardiac results? I hope all is well.

10 - have you reached the magic 28 weeks yet? You must be close. When do you get another scan to check growth?

All OK here. Baby v active. I was talking in a meeting at work yet and my bump kept visibly shuddering with the kicks, I was quite embarrassed but hope nobody noticed. I'm feeling a bit achy round the hips but our maternity physio has an EIGHT week waiting list, I've been referred but it feels like it will be pointless in 8 weeks. I think that's a shocking wait for a maternity service. Sadly I can see quite a few signs of a deterioration in the NHS since my last pregnancy.

Artigene I just took the one where you have a drink after an hour so sounds like the basic one. Crikes I am not sure I could have done the full one, I was starving after the first one let alone having to wait another 2 or 3 hours!

The floors are a real issue here, we live in an open plan house but the living room is kind of sunken a little as the house was built on a slope so you have steps down from the kitchen then steps up to the dining area. All ceramic tiles. My DD is only 21 months so can't master stairs yet and she has fallen on the ceramic before and it is horrible, she really cracks her head. So I have an area which has a big rug and she plays there, but I have to put barricades up and she can of course now move them!

roastpotatoes · 06/02/2013 16:53

Hi 10, it was me who recommended Homeland! Glad you're enjoying it... How did you get hold of series 2? I watched series 1 a couple of weeks ago but was dismayed to see on amazon that series 2 won't be available until Sept!

MaybeAMayBaby · 06/02/2013 17:03

Isn't it on 4OD? I'm sure it's been on channel 4?

roastpotatoes · 06/02/2013 17:34

Not any more Sad

babygeek · 06/02/2013 18:04

Hi all, I have been lurking for a bit again. Finally getting round to writing a post!

For the ladies that are moving house, good luck. I always end up with lots of scrapes when I've moved in the past due to my clumsiness mainly. Hope your new neighbourhoods are nice.

betsy sorry about your dad's ill health, I hope you are all doing ok in the circumstances. ??

10 and Seasalt and others that are or have been unwell, hope you are on the mend. PGP sounds crap! Especially with the ice and snow not helping.

Baby is kicking up a storm here and my belly is growing by the day. Work is starting to get really busy although strangely I am really getting into it. I am actually a bit sad about the interesting projects I will miss out on when I am on mat leave. Bet I don't feel like that at the time tho! Grin
Give me another month and I will be begging for some downtime I reckon.

Did the maternity unit tour last week and have picked out my room Smile birthing pool with view of Peak District! Sweet!

How exciting that Professor Alice Roberts is also expecting in April/May (I think), she is one of my geeky girl crushes Grin wonder if she is a secret mumsnetter?
