Im awake in fancy hotel at 5am...no reason, just crazy hormones interrupting my sleep again! Did well with food y'day, lovely birthday lunch and dinner - appetite still not huge but at least its there, big improvement on last few weeks. Now what time is breakfast?! Lol all this talk of feasting is making my tummy rumble!

Happy birthday littlemiss

I completly forgot about some foods being off limits [shame], will have to rethink my diet.

Kittenkatzen · 20/02/2013 07:33

kitty it's safe to eat mr whippy I've cream too - there seems to be some kind of urban myth that it contains raw egg but it doesn't, it's essentially frozen milk Smile

when here is a good NHS page on foods to avoid and why - I was ecstatic to find that Stilton is allowed! Grin

SunshineOutdoors · 20/02/2013 08:46

What? I avoided Stilton at Christmas for no reason? I'm sure that was a no no last time I was pg (2 years ago)

kittykatsforever · 20/02/2013 08:52

Kitten it wasn't the egg thing I thought it was because it can harbour germs bacteria in the nozzle it comes out of? I still had one last weekend I know even the egg ones don't effect much now as aslong as its pasteurised its ok ( that was a huge relief as I eat coleslaw like 5 times a week lol)
Sunshine the bloody thing seems to change all the time!
When, the madness of what you can and can't do from now on has officially begun!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 20/02/2013 11:15

That's a brilliant link kitten. I can eat Stilton, woo hoo. I just gave a huge block to my dad thinking I couldn't eat it. I'm sure mum and dad have worked out I'm pregnant, when they came over for a meal I didn't have wine which is unheard of.

I'm panicking over tea. I like drinking, decaf tea, green tea, peppermint tea and camomile tea. Apparently camomile can cause uterine contractions so isn't recommended in large doses, peppermint isn't thought to cause any issues but is still not recommended in large amounts.
Green tea can cause birth defects as it can cause a drop in folic acid levels.

Argh, it's a bloody minefield. I've decided to keep drinking them in moderation, I tend to drink weak tea anyway. After all if I said I was going to try and induce a miscarriage through drinking camomile tea people would think I was crazy.

Kittenkatzen · 20/02/2013 11:34

Oh I see kitty, not heard that before, but I guess those places aren't likely to be the cleanest places in the world so it's a fair point!

sunshine according to the NHS link it's to do with water content - listeria bacteria grow much better in a wet, soft cheese apparently! Unpasteurised parmesan is fine for the same reason. And all cheese is ok if it's cooked through :) There is definitely a baked camembert in my near future....

when I've heard the same about peppermint and cammomile, but am still drinking the odd peppermint, lemon & ginger or green tea (don't like cammomile anyway). I think the other thing to look out for is some of the red coloured fruity ones that contain rosehip, which I think has a similar effect to cammomile (haven't checked that out though so could be wrong/old info). Like you say though, the quantities you'd need to be drinking to make a difference must be pretty high!

I realised yesterday that I haven't had a normal tea or coffee in about a fortnight....just not fancied it which is weird as I'm normally a 3/4 cups a day girl.

Anyone else had cravings for sour stuff? I am all about the salt & vinegar crisps and sour jelly babies at the moment. Also hot water with lemon juice in...basically anything that dries my mouth out a bit Confused

kittykatsforever · 20/02/2013 13:21

I go off tea aswell kitten, used to be on about 6 or more cups aday, now even though I can have more as I drink decaf I only fancy 2 aday really
I went of alcohol completely too in first tri but that hasn't lasted, I'd love a nice cold corona Sad
Ted- how are you? Are we on a count Down? What duration were your 2 born at?

SunshineOutdoors · 20/02/2013 13:21

kitten I went off tea for about 2 months. Now I'm back drinking tons of the stuff. Only 2 'normal' ones a day though, the rest of the time it's Yorkshire Tea decaf, which is actually a not bad substitute.

I think I can tend to be a bit over cautious about the do and don't eat during pregnancy, but I do have a tendency to get a bit anxious (like with the swordfish thing) so it just suits me better to follow all the 'rules'. They do seem to change a lot though.

The only one I am a bit more relaxed about is alcohol. I'll have half an ale or a tiny glass of wine up to twice a week. I'm fine that I'm not risking anything with that.

Some of my 'mum' friends met after having dd1 are planning a farm visit tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to go along as there's a nice park and coffee shop there bit I won't go in the actual animal bit as I know there's pregnant sheep there. It may be over the top but I know it could be a bit of a trigger for getting anxious so I don't think it's worth it. Pregnancy is for a short time I'm sure I can cope with missing it. A couple of the other ladies are also pregnant and have said they're fine with it so I'll feel a bit silly opting out but oh well. Everyone has to decide for themselves what they will or won't risk, e.g they might feel differently to me about alcohol.

SunshineOutdoors · 20/02/2013 13:22

Wow that was a bit of an essay, not sure where that came from!

kittykatsforever · 20/02/2013 13:31

Totally agree sunshine, I'm the sane with a hot bath, to me I had them everyday with dd and all was fine, I'm not talking scalding, I can get in fine but it is still hot I thought it was to do with just raising blood pressure and mine is really low so never thought about but there's more to it then that but saunas are actually recommended in Sweden, I can't say there has been enough studies to actual show anything concrete to me for it to make sence, with the sheep thing I went to a farm day a week or so before my mc and I wondered if it had played a part, I didn't know about that one till after and I worry it was a factor ( one of those things ill never know but I'd be cautious because of it) I guess we all have our own things we find acceptable and make our own choices on at the end of the day despite all the lists there's plenty of people who don't know they are pregnant who still have healthy babies after. Infact really most people do have healthy babies so I think abit if moderation in things is really the general concensus, I can remember mw not batting an eyelid when I told her the copius amounts I'd drunk and eaten etc when I hadn't known with dd

Kittenkatzen · 20/02/2013 14:15

Yep I agree, it's all about considered risk and whatever you personally feel comfortable with - if there's one thing that everybody does seem to agree is bad for the baby, it's stress, so each to their own imo!

LittleMissSnowShine · 20/02/2013 20:22

I have gone right off coffee but I do still like a nice brew, just one or two a day tho to be on safe side, ESP cos with sickness I have to drink buckets of non caffeinated fluids, water, juice so I don't get dehydrated.

Apparently in America mint, ESP spearmint but also peppermint to an extent are big no nos in pregnancy but not here. Just remembered that from being pg with ds. Herbal teas are all a bit dodgy, fruit ones are good tho, love Lipton red berries or apple and cinnamon. So much better than twining a not that it's hard

ExhaustedMamasita · 21/02/2013 15:54

Hi everyone! Totally new to this thread but feeling educated already. Since my BFP at the start of the year, I have not had one single normal cup of tea (just decaf), no hot baths, limited herbal teas, no runny eggs, chewy/ burnt meat etc etc and quite frankly I?m bored and tired of such a strict and controlled diet. As it?s my first pregnancy, I?m worried about experiencing any side effects but think I?ll take it a bit easier, after all I do have another 27 weeks to go ? seems like forever! Roll on September!

kittykatsforever · 21/02/2013 16:05

Hi exhausted! Glad we can be a bad influence to you!
Maybe it's because quite a few of us are on second or more pregnancys we've become lax, lol that and we realise they change the goal posts every year and you can't keep up!Wink

twinklestar2 · 21/02/2013 20:23

Just checking in to see if there's any news from tedmundo?

RightUpMyRue · 21/02/2013 22:12

Hello!

Anyone remember me? Winkle just linked to this thread for me. SO pleased to see so many names here I recognise from last year and the year before (God it took long time to get knocked up!).

You're all having babies! Me too! Woo Hoo Grin I'm 34 weeks now so not long to go.

I just need to see winkle get upduffed and then I'll feel satisfied. She probs won't mind either Smile

twinklestar2 · 21/02/2013 22:51

Grin thx rue x

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 22/02/2013 09:18

Hello rue I'm pregnant too but only 4weeks.

I did another clearblue digi and even though I am only 4 wk 2 days (maybe 3 days). The digi gave me a 3+. That seems a little high. Twins ?? I'm also panicking about Down's as high hgc could mean increased risk of down's.

Worry worry worry.

kittykatsforever · 22/02/2013 10:17

Hi rue Grin
When I wouldn't worry too much, as your bfp was quite early I'd say its likely it implanted early, just racing down the tubes no messing!!
or twins Grin

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 22/02/2013 11:05

Thanks kitty you probably are right about it just implanting early. I will stop worrying one day complete lie

The one good thing is I haven't done any knicker checking at all. The chem pregs told me I won't start bleeding till the hcg has completely gone, so that's one benefit.

tedmundo · 22/02/2013 11:34

Hi rue congratulations and welcome

hi also to winkle and all you other ladies. Morning!

No, still no baby yet but i am 38 weeks today so surely not too much longer! I am very tired, big and heavy. Not a good look.

I just want him/her to be here now.

MrsB .. How is the new house? Feeling like home yet?

littlemiss .. Are you pretty much back on track now? Sickness abated?

There are some scans on the horizon I think isn't there? I really hope they all go well. Enjoy the weekend and stay warm. Brrrrrrrrr!

tedmundo · 22/02/2013 11:38

when .. I didn't see your post. I am sure your levels are perfectly normal for a healthy singleton baby. Will you get a reassurance scan from the nhs?

On a completely different topic .. I am MNing and the telly is on Made in Chelsea. I have never ever seen this before and it is causing me to be in a state of wonderment. It is just so, so .... Bonkers!

tedmundo · 22/02/2013 11:39

has that blonde one got a NAIL on his nose???????

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 22/02/2013 11:54

Hi ted I'm on the Promise trial (progesterone in early pregnancy). I get a scan at 7 weeks, it's only 2/3 weeks way but it feels like ages away.

38 weeks is very exciting. Did you have the other kids on time or a bit late.
