Hello all. I'm back in hospital as my blood pressure has soared. Looks like the dropped down level of medication that I was advised to take after birth was too low. They've whacked on a load more medication and it's now stable.

The baby is with me. I'm using the fact im back in to my advantage and getting some breastfeeding help. The midwife who helped me was great but she too was at an utter loss when Zach spent hours being hungry but not suckling despite the fact that the nipple was right there for him. He simply didn't want to - he wanted the bottle teat as that gives him a fast hit of milk. It took me from 11.30pm to 1-50am to settle him to sleep with enough food without resorting to the bottle. Now that I've done that, it'll be interesting to see what happens at the next feed - whether he'll give the boob a decent go or whether he will resist.

Walnut8 · 05/12/2012 03:47

Well I called the midwife and she said that it was likely just more show and if I was worried at all to come in any time ... and hopefully that meant things were kicking off Hmm. I've had nothing more so will just wait and see I guess and keep monitoring to make sure baby moving okay.

spotty how are you coping without heating and hot water?! I hope it can be fixed soon.

FX he soon realises that he's getting boob and thats it Seconds Smile Sorry to hear about your blood pressure though, that's rubbish. How much longer do they want you in?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/12/2012 03:50

Oh spotty I hope dd is better soon.. And I sympathise about the boiler, I have the most unreliable boiler ever! Pita!

seconds sorry to hear you're back I'm, it's great you're getting bf support though. Is it your blood pressure medication that they got wrong? What happened to your metformin etc once LO was born?

I've been awake since 2am. Thoroughly bored of insomnia! Got my bikini wax booked in for this morning. I'm dreading it (only ever shaved before) but looking forward to it being more manageable after birth.

Walnut8 · 05/12/2012 04:03

I had mine done at 34 weeks Stacey and it was fine - the beautician said that she gets loads and loads of pregnant women in. Was intending to get mine redone last week but now I just can't be arsed! Blush Guess I should give it a trim before tomorrow then.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/12/2012 04:25

walnut I feel really Blush as it hasn't been touched since I was about 4 months. I'm glad I'm getting it sorted before the birth though.

EggNogMichelle · 05/12/2012 05:21

That's rubbish Seconds, but the positive is bf support! Sorry for your lose Brooke, I hope you are able to take some time to relax for now.

Awake from a combination of jaw ache, snotty nose and the a*hole neighbours shouting and slamming doors, next house we buy will be detached!

EggNogMichelle · 05/12/2012 05:23

I had DH manage the unruly garden, since I couldn't see it, goodness knows what he has done to it, probably shaved his initials in!

Walnut8 · 05/12/2012 05:24

I was actually too scared to get it done but then gave myself a kick in the pants to get done at 34 weeks. And then only had a very basic one done and trimmed the rest. I don't actually think its grown much since then (5 weeks ago now) ...but then I can't really see much in that direction!! It's funny though, the closer I get, the less I care (too worried about everything else). Do you have an induction booked stacey?

Walnut8 · 05/12/2012 05:25

eggnog Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 05/12/2012 06:04

Sorry you're back in seconds but sounds like you're making the best of an annoying situation.

Yeah it's a nightmare especially as dd has her casts changed today so it's the only morning she can have a bath Sad

2blessed · 05/12/2012 06:39

Sorry to hear about heating and hot water spotty. I had this last month, complete nightmare.

As already said seconds good place to get bf support but hope you can go home soon.

I've not looked at my lady garden since my last attempt to hack away the wild vegetation. Would really like a hollywood but not sure I can stand it...

Well scan was absolutely fine yesterday, lo is head down and happy. Estimated weight is 7lbs and everything else is normal. My bp is still high though...
Pram arrives today - yay! But bed broke a couple of days ago so have to shop for a.new one.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/12/2012 06:50

walnut I have an induction booked for next fri, but they are going to decide wether to bring that forward at my obstetricians appointment tomo morning. So it could be before then! Confused

Walnut8 · 05/12/2012 06:51

can you get the kettle out spotty? when we moved in to our new place a few months ago we had no hot water for the weekend, so resorted to boiling the kettle for DD's bath!

that all sounds positive 2blessed

wonder how mamapo is doing? was she induced in the end?

anyone have any induction tips? Can't remember last time all that well, except that i went through about 25 crappy magazines and my body weight in juice boxes. I just can't seem to get myself motivated to check everything that I packed 2 weeks ago in a flying hurry ...

Walnut8 · 05/12/2012 06:53

fingers crossed stacey - not long now either way!

MaMaPo · 05/12/2012 07:06

Hello walnut - speak of the devil, here I am. Another night in hospital with stupid variable BP and being induced in about an hour. Holy shit. Am a bit anxious but also very excited. And very hungry! I hope I get to have breakfast first.

Any last minute advice? I'll take my book, talk to my husband... not sure if I can hook up my phone to listen to some music. Luckily the TENS I ordered on Sunday arrived yesterday, so I can try to use that. I was also planning a trip to sort out the lady garden and have a pedicure, but having had a single day of maternity leave that wasn't spent in hospital has put paid to that. Gave myself a crappy pedicure last night so at least I look somewhat more presentable. Also cut my fingernails as they were super long and I could see myself cutting my husband as I hang on for dear life!

So - see you next time with some news! Shock Smile

emilyeggs · 05/12/2012 07:13

That did make me chuckle eggnog Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 05/12/2012 07:14

Wow good luck mamapo Grin not long now!

walnut what method of induction do they use where you are? Have got the kettle out!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/12/2012 08:01

Over a cm of snow in the last hour :( just drove DH to work and shat myself the whole way there and back. I may have been willing this baby to come before but right now it can blooming well stay put!

Clarella · 05/12/2012 08:25

Morning everyone, my now overcooked baby brain is seriously becoming noticeably addled now so sorry if I've missed any news or am still on a previous page! sorry you're back in seconds but good you can get some bf advice.

Shame about the sweep cherry. sorry I forget, are they measuring tummy size or have you had other scans? I was 37cm at 38 wks and then been 38 cm ever since! (Now 41+2) think he's been burrowing into my pelvis.

Oh that's rubbish spotty hope it's sorted soon. Kettles and pans of hot water plus hot water bottles all round!

All the best mama!
That's good news 2blessed

How's lo Brooke? so sorry to hear your sad news. It could be a combination of you being low and also distracted plus my lo's movements changed significantly over the last few weeks especially as he dropped. Monday's crazy antics were out of the ordinary!

How are you today eggs? Hoping something comes along soon Thanks

Bugger. All. Happening. Here.

Secondsop · 05/12/2012 08:29

Hello ladies. Not sure when I'll be allowed home but I REALLY HOPE it'll be some time today. BP was pretty high this morning pre-medication so i'd imagine there'd be some more readings and possibly more medication before they get he balance right. stacey it was my bp medication;
I was told to stop taking metformin straight after delivery (which I did).

The good news is that by dint of sheer bloody-mindedness on my part with help from the midwife, both of Zach's last 2 feeds were long breastfeeds, no formula. She also didn't understand why he wasn't latching because he'd have his face in exactly the right place but not latch, even when he was obviously ravenous.
She thought it might be that he wanted the bottle but said she'd seen his kind of behaviour in babies who'd never had bottles so it could just be him. But I think we've turned a bit of a corner -
If we do have to formula topup I'm going to use a cup or spoon, not the teat. He' did latch eventually, but it took 2 hours in the middle of the night to get the first feed done. The next one was a bit better though so hopefully he is learning.

I've lost track of who is at what stage of labour / impending labour, but good luck to those of you who are currently watching signs and symptoms wondering if you will be next! I know I go on about my own problems lately but I know I'm lucky that i have Zach to cuddle whilst most of you are still waiting for your new bundles of joy.

emilyeggs · 05/12/2012 08:30

Good luck mama Grin

WeeJo08 · 05/12/2012 08:32

Good luck Mamapo - BabyMamaPo will be with you soon! Grin

Spotty That is so rubbish about the heating and hot water, I would be so upset :( Is it very cold with you? We have a bit of snow this morning, just a skiff, but still.

Seconds Sorry you're back in again but definitely positive to take advantage of the BF support! :)

Walnut Did you get checked out?

Barbeasty Thank you so much for the burger advice re: BF! It really helped and last night Claudia got lots more and it wasn't anywhere near as traumatic for her (or me!) My boobs are super sore now and have had to crack out the breast pads (so now I rustle at both ends of me - attractive) but I am so happy that my milk seems to be coming through. DH picking up breast pump today too, so hopefully we are tackling the BF on all fronts! (no pun intended!)

Re: lady garden trimmage - that's what I did last Friday afternoon and then my waters broke two hours later! Grin I'm sure no connection, but still! I had also only done basic trimming (well, DH did for me) so I was worried the beautician would say something, but I think they've seen it all before! I was worried that my wax wouldn't last until my due date....!! In my dopey state after the birth when I was in theatre I told this to the anaesthetist Blush

ivanapoo · 05/12/2012 08:44

Hi everyone, another who was on earlier threads but couldn't keep up but now I'm on ML I can MN to my heart's content

Congrats to those who've already welcomed their babies!

Due a week tomorrow, eek! Have had some period pain type things and baby feels low down but that's it so far.

Is anyone else becoming slightly obsessed with baby movements?! I think mine have changed a bit in terms of time of day/ type of movement even though i am still getting quite a lot and it is turning me into a nervous wreck! Also I'm feeling them less - last night was watching baby contort my tummy into all kinds of crazy positions but I could only just feel it...

I have become a craft monster since starting leave, lucky relatives getting one of my poorly-sewn Xmas creations!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 05/12/2012 09:09

weejo I love that you told the anaesthetist about your lady garden! Hehe. Off to fight the traffic (and snow) to get to my appointment.

FriendofDorothy · 05/12/2012 09:42

Well I had a little trip to the ward last night as I was a bit worried about lack of movement.

She hooked me up to the CTG monitor and everything was fine, she also said that she can feel most of his head so I assume that means he isn't engaged at all sad

My BP was a little higher than normal though so she checked it three times and it was coming down, although she asked me lots of questions about pre-eclampsia. Midwife wasn't especially worried about it though. I have another appointment on Thursday to see the midwife for a routine appointment.

I did manage to catch up with one of my colleagues on the ward though about one of my clients who had a baby yesterday morning. There are a couple of cases that I am finding much harder to leave alone!

Today I have an appointment to have my eyebrows waxed and a pedicure. My lady garden is like a jungle and quite frankly it can stay like that! I am also having lunch with my cousin's wife as she is a week ahead of me. Fun :)
