Ahhhh I see - sometimes the define it by the contractions too so if you had long periods without contractions that might have been why. It is an amazing hospital - am so glad you had your MLU birth. Can't wait to have cuddles with her in January - she is such a beauty. Do you need some girls clothes sending?

Feeding in the nip is the way forward to deal with sleepiness - and for night feeds make sure she is starkers (other than nappy) and you are clothed so that your body heat doesn't send her to sleep. Equally when you want her to sleep a bit of warmth is your friend.... Jonas is asleep in his cardy at the moment snorting like a hog.... he's charming honestly.

mummytobe1990 · 04/12/2012 18:55

ive given up on her arriving on her own accord. i'm due to be induced tomorrow lunchtime so unless she comes tonight (which i highly doubt) then its out the window with my water birth Sad

mummytobe1990 · 04/12/2012 18:56

has anybody heard any more from TooManyDicks today??

Clarella · 04/12/2012 19:14

Oh I'm sorry mummytobe (though also not as you get to meet lo?!) But yes that's what I found out today - not sure why I didn't know that

mrswee · 04/12/2012 19:16

Mummytobe can you not still have a water birth if the inductions starts with just the gel and you don't need a drip? Or is it that the pools are ony in th MWLU?

I was hoping that if I do get induced then I could still have a pool birth if I don't need second stage induction with a drip... I must ask the midwife tomorrow!

Clarella · 04/12/2012 19:36

I was told today it's to do with the monitoring of baby but I suppose also the state of your cervix.... maybe each place is different - I can't be in mwlu if induced but there are 2 pools in doc led bit. I am at the point where I'm just going to say sod the active birth, water pustules, birth pool, gas n air; hoik me to an epidural and give me a pile of trashy mags!

mummytobe1990 · 04/12/2012 19:40

im not sure mrswee i think it depends on the hospital and the staff there, ive heard reli mixed reviews bout my hospital tho so i doubt it plus i think they only have 1 or 2 pools so chances are they will be in use anyway knowing my luck.

Its so frustrating, im obviously looking forward to meeting LO but i really had my heart set on a water birth, oh well will just have to wait and see what happens, fc they will still let me

mrswee · 04/12/2012 20:41

mummytobe I know how frustrated you must feel, I missed my water birth the first time and got induced after going in to labour at home but having no progression. I actually didn't mind by the time it was all happening but I have yet again worked myself up to the water birth I wanted the first time and can already see it slipping through my fingers. I'm not planning on anymore babies so I will feel quite sad about it if I have to get induced again. ho hum.. I will have a baby at the end what ever way, but still I totally understand.

clarella although I'm kinda contradicting what i just said to mummytobe but yeah if yoiu do get induced, go with that attitude, it will save you!
When I got induced the last time, I threw my birth plan out the window and took all the drugs availble and just got on with it. things were complicated and the reason I coped was that I was out my head! so worth it!

mrswee · 04/12/2012 20:46

my mum probably thinks I'm in labour right now as I have refused to answer her "where's this baby" text she sent earlier... LEAVE ME ALONE YOU WILL BE THE FIRST TO KNOW

mummytobe1990 · 04/12/2012 21:06

omg tell me about it, its all ive been getting for the last few days...'have you had her yet'....any sign of her yet' and its like......have i told you she is here? no? well then thats because she ISNT HERE YET lol

Ideally I'd love a water birth - must admit I thought you could if induced but I think it must depend. But hey ho just get this baby out!!

mummytobe1990 · 04/12/2012 21:43

clarella that has made my day Xmas Grin love it xx

Bryzoan · 04/12/2012 21:49

Good luck to all of you hoping to avoid inductions. A special shipment of fairy dust to you tonight mummytobe. On water birth and induction, I think it often depends on the method.

At our hospital you can go on the pool if it kicks off after they rupture your membranes, but not on the syntocin drip because of continuous monitoring. When I was staring induction in the face I negotiated with the consultant that they would give me 24hrs rather than the usual2 before starting the drip after ARM (an idea I nicked from detective). So it may be worth having a discussion about what options there are with induction before you go in.

mrswee · 04/12/2012 22:25

Yes I am nicking some of detective's plans when I speak to the midwife tomorrow!
I am going to make some plans and cointingency plans of my own with my midwife. She's seems very good and open and also respectful of wishes un like my previous midwife who I am glad to be shot of!

mummytobe1990 · 04/12/2012 22:26

ok thanks bryzoan will talk to them when i get there tomorrow, worst they can do is say no i suppose lol it just feels like as time goes on im losing more control over the birth and im a little bit of a control freak haha Confused

mrswee · 04/12/2012 22:36

good luck tomorrow mummytobe thinking of you and hopefully you can get to keep some control of the situation.

mummytobe1990 · 04/12/2012 23:23

thanks guys, well im off to bed, best try and get some rest, god knows ill need it over the next day or 2 (fc for a straight forward induction) will keep you all updated as and when i can.

just realised weve still not heard from TooManyDicks ......hopefully everythings ok and shes just resting with newborn xx

MissMummy1 · 05/12/2012 00:03

All the very best for tomorrow mummytobe! It's all totally worth it in the end, honest! xxx

Toomanydicks I do hope you are having wonderful lovely newborn snuggles right now!!

Lots of baby vibes to clarella and mrswee (and anyone else my stupid baby brain has forgotten is still waiting).

YW some girly clothes would be brilliant if you don't mind!! xxx

Bryzoan · 05/12/2012 00:56

Good luck mummyto be. Know how you feel re control - I felt just the same. If it is any consolation though I had my waters broken with dd1 and was on a drip and continuous monitoring as she was prem and in distress - but I was still able to br active and take a level of control. I'm sure you will be able to too. I'll be thinking of you. It will all so be worth it soon...

Clarella · 05/12/2012 07:03

All the very very best mummytobe will be thinking of you. It was a good 8 years ago but my sister was induced after she got confused about her waters breaking (they hadn't) and she routinely tells me one of the most positive birth stories I've ever heard, found it utterly exhilarating, only had gas and air and raves about the endorphins xxxx

Hope you're ok toomany

All the best for the sweep mrswee!

Bugger all to report here, all the crazy bhs of Monday have disappeared. Not one stabby crampy pain other than a little wind Xmas Angry

Clarella · 05/12/2012 09:25

Ok I know I shouldn't go searching but wanting to get my head round this induction thing - I'm just concerned about how very low baby's head is (1/5) but how very high cervix is - mw tried to reassure me that all 'that can happen in labour' - can it naturally in next few days???? Baby's been that low since last week but I'm starting to think he's stopping the cervix move!!! It's just that I'm thinking if it's still like that next Monday can I ask for a slowly slowly approach as long as baby is ok?
I've read the ina may sphincter thing and it makes a lot of sense but I don't want to totally refuse induction partly as I've had a bugger of a time with thyroid and slapped cheek crap and anxiety (all ok now) and don't want to cause any more hassle than necessary; labour was the one thing I was confident about.

Sorry I know everyone is up to their eyes in beautiful babies but inductions on Dec thread are due to gd etc at the moment and I'm such a novice!

And talk about bell curves ..... just been offered induction on Friday at 9am!!!!!!!

Clarella · 05/12/2012 10:07

Sod it. Have accepted. Had a chat with mw who explained all ins and outs (water birth is possible just depends)

Its the RVI in newcastle and pretty top notch .so if they're quiet it's a bonus.

Clarella · 05/12/2012 10:07

Should I have taken 8am??!!

Catbag · 05/12/2012 10:14

Oo, clarella, you're not that far from me :)
