I've been feeling movement for about 3 weeks Reeny, although I'm a bit further along than you. I don't feel kicks as such, it's more like a grapefruit being rolled around my bump. I can tell when he's awake and when he's sleeping and also which corner of the womb he's squashed himself into.

18 weeks today. Eeek!

SevenElvesAndAReindeer · 28/11/2012 12:01

Hi reeny. I've been feeling the odd flutter since 11 weeks, but I'm on my third.

I had my first consultant appointment today. After looking at my notes the first thing he said to me was "you've put on weight since last time". They also want me to have a glucose test, which I didn't have with the previous two, despite being bigger when I was expecting DS. It's not a problem having it, other than the fact the hospital is nearly an hour away and the test takes two hours. It's more that I don't see that it's necessary, tbh I couldn't be bothered to argue about it. I'm also having extra scans at 28 and 34 weeks.

My jeans are starting to get tight, I had next maternity jeans with DD which were really comfy, I'm currently looking at some on eBay!

Hello all

Has anyone found any nice party wear.I have quite a few parties in December plus I like to wear something nice over Christmas.

Completely embarrassed myself at school today.Spoke to ds1 teacher and she was very helpful and said they are going to start social stories with him and monitor him at lunchtime. Anyway I felt reassured by her and then we went round to playground. Ds1 was fighting with one child and I had to tell him then about 10 mins later s load of children were around ds1 chanting at him.He cried and then I went into his teacher and cried.Feel such an idiot.

Forgot to add to all those with 20 week scans coming up.Who will be finding out the sex? We have ours on 28th and will find out on New Years Eve.

Kittykatmacbill · 28/11/2012 13:32

Oh beaut, you do seem to have a tough time! I guess at least the school is aware of the issue...

Re party clothes found a lovely non maternity skirt that I can wear a size or two up. Purple and glittery. Can wear with black maternity top! Smile and possibly a bump band....

BeauticianNotMagician · 28/11/2012 13:37

Kitty I am feeling rather sorry for myself at the moment.Think it's mostly pregnancy hormones. I can't wait for Christmas to arrive to get a bit of a break.

wilderumpus · 28/11/2012 13:50

welcome reeny! I have been feeling teeny little flutters for a while now but they are becoming more noticeable now (am 16+1)

oh beaut that would break my heart and i would cry too a lot. Your little boy is hitting out and you don't know why but are worried for him, and the others chanting at him must have been awful to see. These are stressful things. has he told you what he is feeling about it all? He'll be ok with you looking out for him am sure. Brew Biscuit

aw am envious of your parties! I am away from friends and family and don't have a job so won't have a single party this year! Boo.

beaut sorry am being thick, but how come you are having your scan on the 28th but won't find out the gender till NYE?!

i don't know when my next scan is, am starting to fret! does anyone else not know yet?!

thanks for jeans recommendations everyone!

tasmaniandevilchaser · 28/11/2012 13:51

Oh beaut, poor you! Good that the school are on it. I can't wait for Christmas either.

DD has tonsillitis, she was quite poorly to start with but now is annoyingly perky, though not perky enough for nursery. I am still exhausted and really want to rest but am having to be a bit more on the ball. Neither of us are really well enough to get out, so we're watching a lot of DVDs. I am suffering from CSI Miami withdrawal symptoms. Luckily the new Octonauts is quite entertaining. The colossal squid is very funny!

I'm feeling rolls and flutters, but it's off and on. Scan on the 18th, really want to find out the sex, to know if we've got to get new clothes. Dd wouldn't let us see her bum during her scan, little pickle, so there's no guarantees!

seven I've also got my eye on some next mat jeans on eBay, bet they're the same ones! Do they end tonight?

BeauticianNotMagician · 28/11/2012 14:03

Reeny Welcome sorry I missed your post. I have been feeling the odd movement for a while but it is my 3rd do probably more apparent.

Wilde You aren't being thick Grin DP wants the sonographer to write down the sex and we will read it at New Year.We are going to a black tie and cocktail dress dinner at our local pub. They are only letting 60 people in so I'm really looking forward to it.

Tas Hope you and dd feel better soon.I forgot about all the cartoons ill be watching again. The ds's are still into Ben 10 though.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 28/11/2012 14:04

God I'm an idiot! Went onto eBay to look at the jeans I was bidding on, couldn't find them anywhere on my profile so thought I had just dreamt it. So have bid on more then found the 1st pair in my "things you have BOUGHT"! So may well have 2 pairs of mat jeans. Doh! I am in charge of a small child, not entirely sure this is safe.....

tasmaniandevilchaser · 28/11/2012 14:09

Thanks beaut. that's a lovely idea with finding out the sex! Sadly I have the self-control of a two-year-old so that wouldn't work for me.

Picklep · 28/11/2012 14:15

beaut I have just burst into tears reading your post about the NYE idea - what a LOVELY, LOVELY idea! You will have such a lovely evening and you will need the perfect dress. Have you looked on asos.com - I have ordered a couple dresses from there. Like you wilde I am not working so have no office parties but hoping one of our friends have some gatherings and if I am up to it I might have one. You and your partner should have a special evening evening where you can both get dressed up over the holidays.

Welcome Reeny I haven't felt anything yet but it's my first so hoping it won't be too much longer, can't wait to feel something.

Jenpod yes hopefully our large heads will put us at an advantage if an alien encounter occurs!

BeauticianNotMagician · 28/11/2012 14:22

Tas I have already told DP he will have to hide it from me as I will want to sneak a peek.

Pickle Thank you. Sorry I made you cry too must be catching today. I have looked on asos but not too sure on anything. I have bought a nice plain black dress from there that I will be wearing to DP s works do and I will just dress it up with accessories

wilderumpus · 28/11/2012 14:32

aw beaut what a lovely idea :) might steal it and your NYE sounds fab. Am not a big NYE person myself so a quiet one in a local pub would be smashing. next year mebbes!

eek tas hope your dd gets better soon and gives you some peace as well!

roastpotatoes · 28/11/2012 15:51

Hi everyone,

It's so exciting to hear that so many of you are feeling the baby now. I am 17.3 and don't think I've felt anything yet - but it's my first so I guess it takes a bit longer.

We had another scan today (part of a research study so have a few extra scans) and all looked well with the baby. We even got to see the baby in 3D for a bit which was cool - although it looked a bit skeletal and weird!

The sonographer has put the gender of the baby in an envelope for us to open on Christmas Day. He also printed out a picture and put it in the envelope - everyone was laughing as he did it, so I have my suspicions that it is a boy! But we'll have to wait a month to find out!

I didn't like this scan as much as my 12 week one. He was pressing really hard and it was quite uncomfortable. There was also a trainee there who had a go too so I felt like a bit of a guinea pig. I then started getting really anxious that the scan was in some way bad for the baby, which stressed me out.

Flip, there's so much to get anxious about during this process!

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time beaut - I'm sure getting the school involved will help. Hang on in there - not long until Christmas now!

roastpotatoes · 28/11/2012 15:53

P.S. Thanks so much for all of your support around maternity leave stuff last week - I have got my head around it now and know what I am going to say that I want to do when I next see my boss - and it won't be going back full time after 4 months! I really appreciated all your comments - good to be reminded to put things in perspective.

berri · 28/11/2012 16:56

beaut poor you and poor DS. Christmas is just around the corner so focus on that and the lovely break you have coming up!

I was wondering the other day how you are feeling these days about your other worries - did you speak to your DH or midwife in the end? I hope you're still feeling in control.

BeauticianNotMagician · 28/11/2012 18:41

Berri Thank you for your lovely post. No I chickened out and still haven't told anyone. I have lapsed a couple of times recently but it's because I stupidly weighed myself and have put on a shocking amount. Its obviously going to take a long while for my body to settle down.So to try and control it I have started excercising again

Yes really can't wait for Christmas. Can't believe how quickly it has come around.

SevenElvesAndAReindeer · 28/11/2012 19:37

beaut you could always check out the Eating Disorders boards on Mumsnet if you feel you could do with some support but don't want to actually tell anyone. Hope things improve for your DS soon.

tas yes they end tonight, I'm the high bidder at £5.99! Hope your DD is better soon, how old is she?

I think DS has the flu, he's been really miserable today :(

OP posts:
wilderumpus · 28/11/2012 19:57

take care beaut.

hope your DS is ok seven

glad you sorting out mat leave issues in your head roast.

I really can't believe the loveliness of opening your letters to find out the sex of your babies at xmas/NYE! I, however, am way too impatient but I wish I wasn't, it sounds like a brill idea! Grin

MaybeAMayBaby · 28/11/2012 21:18

Hi ladies,

Beaut-I feel like I've missed something from earlier. Just wanted to say that I've been there in the past. Have you had support in the past?
Your poor DS. No wonder you cried! How is he? 31/2 weeks to go x

Very jealous of all the scans. Mine isn't until jan 8th. I'll be 18 weeks on Xmas eve and am now wondering about getting a private scan done before Xmas. Is it worth it do you think? If you had a private scan for gender would they also have a good look like they do in the anomaly scan? Just hoping to put my mind at rest.

Another bump growing ridiculously fast here. Just ordered some tops. Mine are now all too short and won't cover my bump! I think some of the kids have guessed at school. No one has come out and said anything yet. My DH works there too so could be interesting!

Wirrawoo · 28/11/2012 23:20

Ooh was just lying on the sofa with my partner watching telly and felt a definite kick! He put his hand on it too and then we both felt a few more definite little kicks!!! Omg there really is a baby in there :)
Was crying over the One Born Every Minute what they did next episode. A baby that ended up with meningitis from Strep B. Got totally freaked out but then reminded that at least they know with me and I will get antibiotics in labour so little Mungo (we call him a different weird name every time) should be fine. Was a teary mess for a while though. Hormones....

scooby26 · 29/11/2012 09:58

Wirawoo- yay for kicks!

Away at the mo but hoping one born every minute will be on catch up tv!

I too have group b strep and am so glad we know- another lady due same time as DS didn't know and her baby is now disabled :-(. With antibiotics our risk drops to about 1/8000. Hospital are still unsure how to deal this time but I will INSIST on antibiotics whether I'm swabbed or not! How did you come to find out you had it? I fell down stairs when pregnant lag time and was swabbed when in hospital- I had a smear earlier this year and asked to be reswabbed- no surprise still have it!

Wirrawoo · 29/11/2012 14:41

scooby thanks :) those odds have made me feel better. How unlucky for your friend :( I found out because they screen for it in my area when you have the tests at your first midwife app. Didn't even know they were testing for it let alone what it was but am so grateful they did! Hope all goes well for you, that must have been scary falling down the stairs last time. As I understand it we just get IV antibiotics every 4 hours from the start of labour. Still ok for all labour options and you can still walk around.

berri · 29/11/2012 15:57

I've been thinking about the group b strep as well, when is it that you need to be tested for it? Is it a bit further along or is it something I need to be mentioning at my next appointment?
