berri Would imagine you can be tested at any point as mine was part of the routine urine test at my original booking app. It can come and go apparently.

LittleSpade · 29/11/2012 17:52

Hi everyone

I'm having an interesting week - went to a work related evening lecture with one of my close friends (who've not told about the pregnancy yet) on Tues evening but we arrived late and had to stand at the back (for over an hour) and part way through i came over really hot and dizzy and basically knew that if i wasn't going to faint i had to either leave or take my jumper off. Sounds simple except my jumper was my hoodie - the only top i have that still fool-proofly hides my bump (due to the pocket on the front) - whic i'd worn in disguise so she didn't guess before i had the chance to tell her properly when both her DH and mine would be there (which we'd already planned for a meal tonight to belatedly celebrate my birthday - been trying to get them together to tell them for weeks but their DS has been ill). So anyway I had to take to hoodie off but I was wearing a really fitted top underneath that really hugged my bump so it'll be interesting to find out tonight whether she noticed! I so think she did as when someone left and a seat became available even though she was nearer it she insisted i sit down.

Had lunch with another friend today and told her. After which i undid my cardigan and she said i definately have a bump which, given i'm only slowly getting more confident in the pregnancy after past mc's, really made me Grin

I work from home with few client meetings so so far i have only bought casual maternity clothes but i suddenly have to attend an important meeting next week - really nerbous about what to wear and about my clients noticing before I'm ready to announce it in a work context! Any tips on disguising a bump in work clothese much appreciated!

BeauticianNotMagician · 29/11/2012 18:01

A quick question can I eat goats cheese?Just booking my choice on the menu for New Years Eve do .

16 weeks exactly today Grin

scooby26 · 29/11/2012 18:21

Wirawoo- there is no mass routine testing in uk presently - I had a test when I fell down stairs at 25 weeks and had contractions so ruling out a cause. USA/ oz test at 37 weeks which the the only reliable time as it can come / go. Testing early can mean that the infection has cruelly left by birth which is when the risk is but testing at 37 weeks safely means its likely at labour time. I recommend anyone get private test ( swab) and if positive nhs would stand by result!

FrustratedSycamoreBonks · 29/11/2012 18:34

I felt a flump, I felt a flump! Granted I was lying on my belly, but it was a definate "oy I'm here" flump.

Right going to catch up on what I've missed up thread.

Wirrawoo · 29/11/2012 19:20

littlespade a blazer style jacket if you wear it open will minimise the bump... A floaty top underneath and a scarf of some sort usually does enough to make it less obvious. Hope that helps :)

BeauticianNotMagician · 29/11/2012 19:32

Littlespade Unfortunately I can no longer hide my bump. However, in the earlier stages I just wore looser dresses with tights the tights held me in a little but not uncomfortably so. How far along are you ? Smile

MaybeAMayBaby · 29/11/2012 19:55

Beaut-it's a 'no' to goats cheese I think. It has a rind doesn't it? I had bought a pasteurised camembert the other week thinking it would be fine. But when I searched online apparently it's not it being pasteurised that's te issue, it's the rind. It can have a certain bacteria on it.

Yay to all the kicking. I've stopped feeling definite flutters, but today while I was lecturing my yr10s for their appalling behaviour I suddenly felt a thump. It made me stop mid sentence!

Anyone else eating soooo much? I have actually lost 2kg in the past few weeks but I can't stop eating. I must be burning it off (sitting on my arse).

GeordieCherry · 29/11/2012 20:00

Got more of a proper bump now Grin
How do I know what's usual body things & what's a fluttery kick? I'm 15+5. Can't wait!

lollypopsicle · 29/11/2012 20:19

beaut the most common sort of goats cheese is ok (think nhs website actually specifies it) The type of goats cheese with a rind is not ok though. I guess the only way to be sure is to ask the place before you choose.

I defo felt a 'kick' that made me jump today! I'm 15 weeks today. I felt DS for sure at 14 weeks but this time I haven't felt movements as definitely...until today Grin

Think I'm leaving the ms behind. Wooo hooo!

BeauticianNotMagician · 29/11/2012 20:22

BeauticianNotMagician · 29/11/2012 20:26

lolly Thank you.

Geordie The only feelings you get usually in your tummy are rumblings or crampy type feelings from wind, hunger etc.Baby movements feel more like flutterings or rolling type movements.

Rhienne · 29/11/2012 20:36

LittleSpade - loose blouses are your friend! I splurged on one of these (don't need so much maternity wear, as this is DC2) and it's great for hiding my bump:

berri · 29/11/2012 21:17

littlespade I find patterns or stripes are v concealing - and definitely the baggier the better!

Thanks for the strep info, next appt isn't for a couple of weeks so I'll make a note to come back to it...

Wirrawoo · 29/11/2012 21:52

scooby yes, they said they will be testing again later in the pregnancy. I was told that I will definitely have IV antibiotics in labour though due to testing positive at any stage in pregnancy. It's all a bit confusing! It's such a shame they don't have mass routine checks in the UK. Here's hoping they will one day. We just got sent a letter and a photocopied pamphlet so was all a bit freaky until we spoke to our midwife about it. Hope all goes well for you Thanks

Reenypip · 29/11/2012 21:53

Hi Geordie, with my first baby, the first movements which I wasn't sure was baby at the time felt like pop corn popping.

scooby26 · 29/11/2012 22:46

Snap WIRAWOO- all we got last time was the insensitive letter with a leaflet about risk says I had this lurgy! ;-)

Feel very lucky though as much better off than the 25% of ladies who carry it and hae no idea. As I haven't been tested in this pregnancy they cannot decide whether I'm high risk consultant led or not! Depends who I speak to.... Though all happy that of I want antibiotics I can have them- erm yes..... No brainer thanks! Just beware if you are hoping for birthing pool there are mixed policies due to our 'germ' despite 25% unwittingly using pools without knowing! I had to really persuade them and get it in writing or it would be a no go- plus if you waters go first it's a no go as ull be induced straight away which rules pools out due to the drip. But annoying!

GeordieCherry · 29/11/2012 22:59

Thanks Reeny & Beaut. At the moment it kind of feels like bubbling, like a trump would when first brewing Blush

Zorra · 30/11/2012 09:00

What a long old week! Had my nuchal scan about ten days ago, all looks good thank God. DC2 was bouncing away merrily, and jabbering. Looks like it will take after its big brother!

In bad news I had a car crash on Monday, and still very bruised and shaky. My right breast is totally purple from the seatbelt :( Plus cramps legs and general woe. They gave me a scan and bubs seemed fine but I keep panicking that either I have something undiagnosed, or imagining how much worse it could have been...

Still, counting blessings. 15 weeks :)

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 30/11/2012 10:56

Blimey, all this talk about hiding bumps. I couldn't hide mine if my life depended on it. I daren't go for a walk on the beach in case Greenpeace tow me back out to sea. My neighbour is 26 weeks and I look bigger than her Shock.

18+2

LittleSpade · 30/11/2012 13:08

Thanks Wirra and berri I was thinking something along those lines may work - I'll have to have a bit of a trying things on session at the weekend! Not convinced though as am growing rapidly!

Beaut I was doing that too originally but it stopped working a couple of weeks ago - I'm now 16+5 and the meeting is when I'll be 17+5. It's my first so i am quite suprised at how fast it's growing (but pleased).

Rhienne unfortunately blouses/shirts never worked for me at the best of times let alone with inflated pregnancy breasts but I do have some floaty tops along similar lines to the one you linked to so I'll try some stuff on at the weekend.

Maybe I thought it was a no to all goat's cheese - please tell me i'm wrong!

I'm totally with you Panda - I think I'm not far off the same size as my friend who's at a similar stage to your neighbour. Is this your first DC?

Oh Zorra how scary! Glad they scanned you to check on baby and i hope the rest of you feels better soon enough. Have some Brew and Biscuit.

lollypopsicle · 30/11/2012 13:39

Wow I am ridiculously emotional at the moment. I could feel the tears coming when 23mo DS refused to eat his lunch! I also started crying at the sheer thought of a 'call the midwife' Christmas special Confused

On the goats' cheese issue, I shall try and link to nhs below but making not promises so to summarise. If the cheese is soft with a rind then don't eat it, eg chèvre. Sadly this seems to be the goats' cheese of choice in restaurants. However you can eat it cooked through eg goats' cheese tart

There are goats' cheeses you can buy in the supermarket that are soft and not mould ripened (or no rind) so these and hard goats cheeses will be ok. Attempting link...

lollypopsicle · 30/11/2012 13:45

I love cheese btw so it's important to me to know that I can eat some! I was very glad to realise we can eat Stilton as Xmas with no Stilton would be very sad indeed! Also, smoked salmon is safe. Best. News. Ever. Grin

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 30/11/2012 14:17

LittleSpade this is my second, although the midwife told me I get treated like it's a first as it's more than 10 years since number 1. My daughter is 19 Shock

I'm feeling very sad about the cheese ban. We have a cheese factory near us and they have a restaurant which serves a cheese buffet. Cheeses and crackers and nibbly things from all over the world that you can gorge on try. We won't be going this Christmas :(

wilderumpus · 30/11/2012 16:38

lol I am scoffing all cheese! Grin I bloody love it but happily am off really stinky cheese - seem to like tart cheeses and had goats cheese last weekend. Didn't think owt of it really. I did think stilton was off the menu so haven't had that - but is it ok then lolly AND smoked salmon?!! WOOT.

maybe I have only put on 2lbs so far this pg BUT am eating so much this week too! Am eating every two hours odd, and not snacking - I had proper lunch of rice and thai soup and then had to have two pieces of toast at 3! and will eat again at 5! Is so weird, am just hungry. Not shaky hungry like in the early days, but just hungry. Think will start putting the weight on now, eek.

Am lurged, I have a hideously sore throat. I can't have throat sweets can I?

zorra horrible news about your car crash :( I hope you are ok.

is anyone else, ahem, really burpy?! God it is a shocker, I cant even have a cup of coffee without burping really loudly! and that combined with acid reflux... ouch!
