Desperately trying to share a picture and quote about babies that baby Raphael only sleeping on your chest pidj made me think of but cant - its kind of sdvertising for a book so prob shouldnt but i love it - its on a facebook page called babycalming - the most beautifully decorated sling, baby and mother ever too! Wish i knew more about where the pic is from!

Walnut8 · 21/11/2012 04:01

I agree with clarella, daydream!!

Just had obstetrician appointment and apparently all is fine. She doesnt think she'll see me at the appointment next week, but I'm a bit ... Hmm.

I'm now measuring 38 weeks but baby estimated in 97th centile?!!! She said 8.8 pounds .... what I cant work out is whether that is 8.8 lbs at 40 weeks or 8.8 right now????? I'm only 37 weeks, so it can't be 8.8 right now can it? Apparently baby right down in pelvis and also right up in ribs. Hoorah.

Great tips honey!

And great news pidj. I hope you're feeling well and comfortable. I was on a four-person postnatal ward and wanted to get out of there asap!

SpottyTeacakes · 21/11/2012 04:02

Clarella you could always buy just one little carton of formula. If baby needs a top up its only a teaspoon and you can use a teaspoon or a medicine cap. Also some people can't express but I found the tommee Tippee hand pump really good with dd you can get it for less than £20 and it has a bottle, storage pots and a box to sterilise it all in so really handy as a just in case and if it doesn't get used its not a waste of money.

I'm really hungry might have a piece of cheese and hope I can get to sleep Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 21/11/2012 04:05

That would be 8.8 now walnut dd was 8lb at 36 weeks and was 95th or something so that would make sense....

Clarella · 21/11/2012 04:06

Great news walnut! - though really not sure about the weight thing Confused i would imagine final weight?

Clarella · 21/11/2012 04:10

Thanks spotty - factory is near here and someone said u can buy at discount there so may pop over (though maybe with dh as always get terribly lost in area it's in!)

Actually boots is a 5 min walk. Hmm

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/11/2012 04:14

Good morning all. Can't get back to bloody sleep even though I really want to!

pidj glad to hear you have cracked the feeding! You'll feel a lot more settled (and able to put Raphael down) when you get home.

--I want my baby out now!!-/

SpottyTeacakes · 21/11/2012 04:20

Cheese eaten. Alarm will go off at seven. Time to try get some sleep! Dp doesn't have to be at work until 8:30 tomorrow so hopefully he will take pity on me and take dd downstairs when she inevitably gets up in an hour!

WillYouDoTheFandango · 21/11/2012 04:21

Well fancy seeing you all here! The itchy hot feet have reached silly levels today and I'm currently dipping them in a cold bath to soothe them.

Clarella I've found I can sit on the sofa for ages and not realise I need a wee, but the second I stand I end up doubled over with weetractions and have to hobble to the toilet in agony Confused

Gonna try a kip now too. #*$@#ing builders on ultimatum day tomorrow - no showy no pay-ey and will may consider faking contractions. I still don't look anywhere near as big as I think I should look for 5 days off due date!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/11/2012 04:53

Urgh. Want to sleep!

Good luck with the builders tomo clarella I don't envy you tbh!

The toys for the babies stocking arrived yest, the kids found the parcel and were very confused why Santa wasn't doing the babies stocking! Lol I think I managed to convince them that he wouldn't have enough time as its too close to Xmas and he doesn't even know if it's a boy or girl yet. So mummy has done the stocking this year and Santa will resume normal duties next year. Phew!! I think I might have got away with it!

Bellaboo123 · 21/11/2012 04:58

Another one wide awake here Hmm

pidj great news re the feeding...mmmm biscuits....!

Totally get that weetractions sensation ouch when you stand and hobble!

Anyone know how dating is getting on?

PurplePidjin · 21/11/2012 05:44

I transferred yesterday pm, it's lovely here and the other families I've met are fab. I need the support, 2 hours sleep and hez's back on the boob! I'd not have got that if the lovely mw hadn't shown me how to latch on lying down!

I had to do formula top ups using a syringe, the hospital sorted me out. They also got me espressing into a syringe, and wouldn't have released me without feeding properly established (to postnatal care here is ok) In our case we had probs because I had pethidine so already with the mummy guilt!

utopian99 · 21/11/2012 06:42

Hi pidj, so glad you and Rafa are doing well! No need to feel guilty, my mw says if you feel you need drugs and it means a less stressful birth that's doing the best for both of you.

Can I ask if you booked to stay in for longer or they just let you? Our hospital say if there are no issues they aim to release you six Shock hours after the birth, which, as a first timer, strikes me as no time should you need help bfing etc..

Secondsop · 21/11/2012 06:56

Well done with the feeding pidge!

Those talking about wee, I'm currently lying in bed wondering whether to get up and go downstairs to the loo (upstairs one is being renovated), or to go back to sleep and wait it out till 7.30 and then get up once and for all. Getting up now, I know I won't go back to sleep again and the cat will start pestering me for food.

MaMaPo · 21/11/2012 07:13

Such a sleepless lot! I seem to have turned a corner with my sleeplessness (I know, I shouldn't even mention it) and have it down to a fine art - one toilet trip per night, plus the possibility of waking 30-60minutes early due to hunger. Crossing fingers it stays this way as I feel quite rested.

So I bought one of those Epino things and started using it yesterday. Very odd sensation. My husband came home and asked why I had locked him out, and I had to explain that I was busy sticking things in my vag and didn't want any interruptions! Overall it doesn't hurt, I think I need to push it a bit more (carefully) and build confidence that I'm doing it right. This is what it is in case people are reading this thinking Hmm 'What the bloody hell's she on about?!' - www.epi-no.co.uk/

12 hour day at work today. Bah.

emilyeggs · 21/11/2012 07:20

I must have got to sleep not long after posting Hmm up now with a cuppa, hope you lot got a bit if shut eye too. For a scary moment I thought the great Biscuit debate was about to kick off again! Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 21/11/2012 07:39

Well I got a couple of hours Sad woken with a headache and heartburn. Have to go to hospital today for bp check then dd's getting her casts put on Sad

Wonder how COD is getting on? pidj it sounds like you're getting excellent care. Do you think you'll want to go home today?

EggsMichelle · 21/11/2012 07:53

Utopian they say they like to discharge you ASAP, but if things like feeding still aren't perfect, they won't discharge you, so don't panic!

I was pressured into buying a steriliser, and have two bottles. I am also floating around blissfully with my head in the clouds that bf will be easy!

I opened and ate half the box of biscuits meant for the midwives where I deliver, oops! Will have to buy more before DH discovers what I have done!

Got a job interview this morning (madness I know) with a presentation. No doubt baby brain and exhaustion will kick in and it will be a disaster!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 21/11/2012 07:59

spotty I hope everything goes well with dd's casts!

Urgh, hate winter mornings, just don't wanna get up at all, and neither do the dcs. In the summer we all manage fine, but now I end up shouting as they go sooooo slow! This I'd bit going to be made easier with a baby! Lol

PurplePidjin · 21/11/2012 08:28

I don't know if it's the same everywhere - not-quite-SIL had a very different experience last month! - but I was taken from birth suite to MLU ward in hospital for the first night, then transferred (according to birth plan) to local MLU. I can leave today or stay another night in. Not sure what to go for yet but options are lovely!

2blessed · 21/11/2012 08:56

Good luck with the interview eggs!

utopian My hospital have said that they will make sure that baby is feeding ok before they discharge but generally like to keep first timers in at least overnight.

I'm down to one toilet trip a night as well but still lay awake thinking about evrything I haven't done whilst listening to LBC.

Not sure how I'm going to make it through my final days at work, really tired and becoming really ratty with people - not good Sad.

Barbeasty · 21/11/2012 08:56

Good luck eggs.

I've turned a corner in sleep as well. But sadly it's one that involves waking up at 3 or 4am. And then the alarm goes off at 5.30.

But it's my last day at work today, so could be much worse!

Clarella · 21/11/2012 09:00

Well builders have deigned to grace us with their presence ..... there 'aint an ounce of oxytocin in me today! They've bothered to buy dust sheets for once though I'm not sure they have anyway near enough.

I think only reason the nct girl had feeding issues out of hospital was baby got very mucousy a few days later and kept being sick, she also had some issues with 1 flat and 1 inverted nipple and the combo was too much for of them so not a typical situation. She'd didn't have a pump or bottles at that point but is now expressing fine but wished she'd had one. They do establish feeding first before discharging, she was ok at first with a nipple shield on one but not a few days later when he was poorly. However as spotty says a hand pump is easily found in boots!

I get embarrassed at the way my nipples stick out esp when taking the kids at school in the pool as we'd be getting them ready whilst we froze and I felt like a fembot in front of all the life guards running back for forgotten goggles etc.

Clarella · 21/11/2012 09:02

Oooh good luck eggs!

I wonder how dating is?
