Hey ladies, another successful scan for me today Smile so so happy!! Will catch up
Properly later, I'm in the middle of a monster cold so off to bed for a bit

SunnyL · 12/12/2012 14:54

I have a question about weight gain. I've noted that a lot of people on here are already talking about maternity wear. Is this a second baby thing? I'm just thinking I'm 15 weeks now and haven't put any weight on - in fact I lost 2 lbs last week when I had a fever. My tummy is a little rounder but definitely not busting out of my jeans yet. I wasn't exactly vying for the title 'The Body' with Elle McPherson before I got pregnant but it does concern me that I've got no bump yet. Both my sister and mother had extra scans when pregnant as they had small bumps but both gave birth to 3 (each) perfectly healthy weight babies. Maybe I've just answered my own query.....

CuriouslyChristmassyColaHam · 12/12/2012 15:05

Sunnyl I didn't show until around 20 weeks last time. Definitely a second baby thing here. Plus I feel really sick if my clothes press on my bump, so switched to maternity trousers early.

forgetmenots · 12/12/2012 15:44

Congratulations sparkly!

I'm 13+6 with dc1 and can't do my jeans up. But, that said, I haven't been sick once and have eaten like a horse there is a definite 'hard' bump when I feel around the hip line though...

princesschick · 12/12/2012 16:08

Hi all, lovely to hear all the great news about the scans.

Although sorry to hear of your problems Suzy and the test results dreamy. I hope that everything is plain sailing and stress free and test results come back clear.

On this topic of growing tummies / bumps - I'm into maternity jeans as skinny jeans were starting squeeze from around week 10. This is my first baby. My skinny jeans were not very forgiving uber skinnies (I'm a 10/12) and were hurting my tummy. I work from home so live in jeans. Bought some very comfy size 12 skinny maternity jeans (ASOS) with stretch panels on either side rather than over bump tube thing. They're really loose at the mo but plenty of growing room and it's nicer to be comfy.

My tummy is super hard some nights when I'm in bed and then there seems to be a bit of growth the morning after. I'm not bigger anywhere else (well apart from boobs) but there is a clearly defined tum now, which surely has to be things moving and stretching?! I bloody hope so as I haven't been eating any more than usual and haven't had a drink for over 3 months now! I'm looking forward to a proper bump now rather than looking bloaty!

MS seems to be easing too. Just the weird foamy bile stuff first thing in the morning if I don't eat quick off the mark. Does anyone else get this?

Afternoon waves to you all :) Anyone else ridiculously excited about Xmas? Xmas Grin

suzyrut · 12/12/2012 16:32

Congratulations Sparkly great news on your scan.

Third baby here and large v.noticable bump (enough for questions to be asked) from somewhere around week 6!

princess I am totally over excited about christmas, I love everything about it, went mad and got two christmas trees this year, just can not wait!

Sunbeam18 · 12/12/2012 17:00

Great scan news from me! Wriggly wee thing, and my date brought forward to 18 June! Exactly 9 months after my 40th birthday!!! Got bloods taken at the scan for combined test and nuchal measurement was 2.1mm which I think is good? So relieved and happy! Xx

forgetmenots · 12/12/2012 17:05

Fantastic news sunbeam, glad to hear baby beam is a wriggler and all looks well!

AmIGoingMad · 12/12/2012 17:07

Great news sparkly and Santa! Grin

Sunny I wouldn't worry about it- last time I was fine on my jeans for ages. This time I'm already loving my leggings and getting maternity clothes down from attic soon. For me personally its probably got a bit to do with fact that I hadn't quite (understatement) gotten rid of tummy form last time!Wink

AmIGoingMad · 12/12/2012 17:07

Sorry- I meant sunbeam!

AmIGoingMad · 12/12/2012 17:08

Also- thank you princess for replying to my other post about smoked salmon- very happy Grin

AlohaMama · 12/12/2012 17:20

Exciting to here about all the scans. And good luck dreamy with the tests. Hope you don't spend too much time worrying about it over Christmas. And hope things settle down with you suzy.

On the maternity clothes front, I don't remember having to wear them till months in last time (mind you I was wearing a lot of dresses anyway which just grew with me!). Think this time (baby#2) I'll probably have to wear them earlier. Like Curiously clothes pressing against my belly make me feel sick, so although my jeans are still skinny, I confess to sitting at my desk at work with the top button undone!! Everyone carries differently though. Last time I put on minimum weight (at the very bottom of the advised weight gain for my size) and all the weight was on my bump rather than anywhere else. Unfortunately it just meant everyone thought my bump was HUGE. Which it actually wasn't. I compared myself against a pregnant friend and we were the same, but because she was taller and had put on more weight generally she looked more in proportion! So it's all perception!!

And as for Christmas I am SOOO excited. Can be hard to get enthused about Christmas living here, as it's hot so doesn't feel Christmassy. But this year ds will be 20 mo so think he'll be quite excited by it all. Plus parents are coming to visit which means it will feel more festive than if it was just me, dh and ds.

Have my 12-wk checkup this morning (not scan) but hopefully will hear the heartbeat so can be reassured that all is ok. Then back to work to tell my boss!

CottonSock · 12/12/2012 18:11

I think this is the most recent June 2013 thread... Just marking place and asking if I can join. Was in the July thread but dating scan just put me in June... Will have to read back and catch up soon.

LexiLexi · 12/12/2012 19:14

Hi All,

Hope your 12 week check-up went well AlohaMama and congratulations CottonSock, almost a third of the way there!

Just found this thread am 14+2 with baby#1. My skinny jeans began to feel tight when I was about 10 weeks & like Curiously and AlohaMama I feel sick if anything presses against my bump so have been in leggings, warm, fluffy tights and skirts ever since! My belly button already starts to be flattening, worried it is going to pop out before the New Year, has anyone else noticed this yet? I thought it was due to happen much later on!

AlohaMama · 12/12/2012 19:48

Welcome Lexi and Cottonsock.

Just back from my appointment. Decided to actually ask a few questions this time. Turns out I WAS offered a nuchal test but refused it, hence my earlier confusion! In 4 wks I'll have the quad screening blood test (for Downs, spina bifida and Tri18). Apparently if the Downs test probability comes back high, they don't do an amnio but a different type of blood test which is supposed to be as accurate with less risks (by looking at baby's DNA?). Though looking online it seems like this is only available in the US, anyone heard of it?

As an added bonus, I also had a scan. I hadn't realised my Ob has a little ultrasound in her office so it seems like every appointment she does a quick scan, and then for the 18-20 week one, go to the place with the more fancy machine that does 3D and is presumably more accurate for all the measurements. Baby was growing on target and looked good (as good as a blob can look!), so am now feeling relatively reassured and just have to wait till mid-Jan for the blood tests.

Good luck with your scan today fidget

AmIGoingMad · 12/12/2012 20:11

Hi lexi and cottonsock!

Well that was a nice surprise for you alohamama- an unexpected look at baby! Smile

I haven't noticed the belly button thing yet but mines a bit deeper anyway since DS!

I'm off for an early night now- DH away with work and DS not well so I'm going to need all the sleep I can get!

Fidget275 · 13/12/2012 06:09

Hi! All was very Grin at my scan, lovely to see the little one flipping about all over the place. Due date been moved back 2 days to the 24th June now. Aww felt all warm n fuzzy inside!
I'm off for some maternity clothes this weekend, week 12 seems to be the week of belly popping out! Had an amazing vomiting in the car (tmi-sorry) incident yesterday, sigh, again, such a magical time!!
Hope all is okay elsewhere at the start of the 2nd trimester... June does seem to be approaching very quickly doesn't it? GrinGrin

MrsBri · 13/12/2012 06:29

Ha ha, Fidget...I narrowly made it home yesterday before vomming! We had to come home a stop / throw up friendly route :-/ Got to go 170 miles by car tomorrow night. Dreading it!

But awesome scan news :-)

My belly has been out for ages. Definitely buying some maternity clothes soon too.

AmIGoingMad · 13/12/2012 08:56

Fantastic scan news fidget!
Not so fantastic about the vomiting though- hopefully it will start to ease soon x

CuriouslyChristmassyColaHam · 13/12/2012 08:57

Congratulations on all the positive scans.

Morning sickness has nearly gone, but been replaced by a horrid cold. Feeling very sorry for myself today.

My belly button still looks normal and it didn't pop last time. I have quite a deep one though Smile

MrsBri don't envy you the drive.

LittlemissChristmas · 13/12/2012 09:11

Glad to hear lots of good news stories with scans.
I'm still being sick so gp has put me on anti sickness meds to try and help. I'm also getting some cramping Hmm but just hoping its constipation. The joys of pg, I thought it was meant to be a glowing enjoyable time!!

suzyrut · 13/12/2012 10:27

congratulations sunbeam and fidget and welcome aboard lexi and cottonsocks.

alohamama I believe the test that you're referring to is called the Harmony test and it's not routinely offered in the UK but apparently is more common in the US. If you go to the antenatal tests and choices board there are a few threads about it from women that have had the test.

xx

dreamydays · 13/12/2012 12:47

Hi suzy sorry to hear about your cramping. Are you feeling better now? I had assumed any negative effect of CVS or amnio was pretty instant so am a bit alarmed to hear that it can happen a while afterwards!

I have dug out my old maternity trousers/skirts. So comfy. The tops look baggy and peculiar though, having been stretched to take a 9 month belly! Want to buy one or two nice things for Christmas :)

dreamydays · 13/12/2012 12:48

And well done everyone on the positive scans! :)

suzyrut · 13/12/2012 14:11

hi dreamy I thought it was only the first few days when you would get spotting/cramps but I felt fine almost straight away, I think they might've been at a bit of a loss as to what to tell me to be honest and the gynae I saw wasn't the most experienced so I wasn't totally convinced either. Their only real advice seemed to be keep your fingers crossed!

When's your amnio booked for dreamy?

Everything seems to have settled down now fortunately and I stopped taking the co-dydramol because they were making me feel odd/sick. Am just carrying on as normal but can't wait till next Friday when I leave work for Christmas and can get on with relaxing for a couple of weeks! xxx
